CHAPTER 3

"Hello!" Boruto yelled through the village as he continued to run in search of someone he knew. Then it hit him, "Konohamaru-Sensei! I wonder what he's like in this time!"

So he set off in search of his sensei.

"Hey, you! Naruto!"

Boruto jumped at the high-pitched voice, "who, me? I'm not Naruto... Uh..." His gaze fell as he looked down at a young boy about eight years old wearing a long blue scarf, "who are you?"

"Wha! You're not Naruto!" The boy screeched.

"No, I'm... Uh, Boru Uzu from the Village Hidden in the Meadow." Boruto crossed his arms, "what makes you think I'm Naruto? We look nothing alike."

"Huh." The boy shrugged, "sorry. But I thought I just heard you say my name?"

"What, of course not... Wait..." Boruto peered his eyes at the boy, "no... It can't be... Are you..."

"That's right!" The boy beamed, "I'm the one and only Konohamaru Sarutobi! The one and only rival to Naruto Uzumaki! He's my boss, you know."

"Rival? Isn't that Unc-- I mean, Sasuke?" Boruto corrected himself.

"Nah. I'm a greater rival! Check out my sexy jutsu, I'll prove it to you!" Konohamaru weaved his hand signs.

"No, no! It's okay!" Boruto struggled, he really is like Dad, isn't he?!

"Wait, wait! This is the best one! I can feel it!" Konohamaru giggled childishly, "sexy juts--"

"Sorry! Gotta go!!" Boruto yelled as he started running in the opposite direction, not knowing where exactly he was going, "phew, I hope I lost hi--"

Suddenly, not looking where he was going, he ran into someone, knocking them both off their feet, "owww... I'm so sorry..."

"I-I'm sorry, N-Naru... Naruto?"

Boruto rubbed his head and looked across in confusion. Before him was a girl about his age that only reminded him of someone he knew already, "do I know you?"

The girl tilted her head, and he could tell she was confused too, "I don't think so... You really look like someone I know."

"You too..." Boruto squinted his eyes, and a face flashed before his eyes, "ah! You look like my little sister!"

"Oh?" The girl giggled, "you look like a boy from my class."

"Really? Well, my name is Boru Uzu."

"I'm Hinata Hyuga."

Boruto's eyes opened wide, "y-you're..."

Hinata looked at him, "what's wrong?"

"It's..." Boruto muttered as he stared at her, "it's nothing. I thought I've heard your name before."

"Oh." Hinata smiled, "here, sorry."

"No, no. Allow me." Boruto stood up, grabbed Hinata's hand, and pulled her up.

"Thank you." Hinata smiled, "are you new here?"

"Uh-huh." Boruto nodded, "I guess I'm just not sure where to go right now."

"I can bring you to the Hokage's office if you want?" Hinata offered.

"That'd actually be great." Boruto nodded as young Hinata led him through the streets, even though he knew he could literally walk to the Hokage's office in his sleep. He's done it before.

After some time, he broke the silence, "so who do I remind you of?"

Hinata looked down at the ground, "well..."

"Is it Naruto Uzumaki?"

Hinata looked up at him, a blush tinting her cheeks, "how did you..."

"I get that a lot..." Boruto shrugged, "you like this guy or something?"

"Well..." Hinata fiddled with her fingers, "I guess you can say that."

"Hm." Boruto watched her face, then looked down at the ground, "I don't know. I don't see what there's to like about a guy... As a husband or as a father. My father... He was never always there for me, so I wound up becoming a cheater. I was scorned, and it's all because of him and his stupid job..."

Hinata looked at Boruto, then sighed, "I may not know who your father is, but I really don't think that just because he can't find time for you doesn't mean he doesn't love you. I mean, take Naruto for example. His dad was never there for him because his dad is dead. You have a living dad, don't you?"

"Yeah, of course..."

"I don't know who your dad is, but I'm sure he'd never abandon you, and he'll always be there." Hinata smiled a smile of reassurance. A smile that Boruto was way too familiar with. As she did, he saw an image of his own mom, older Hinata, flash before his eyes.

"Thanks, Hinata." He smiled as tears stung his eyes before turning back to the sky. Thanks, Mom.

"Time travelers? But how?"

"I don't know... But I've sensed chakra even stronger than the normal chakra signatures of their own age group."

The man smiled slyly, "is that so? Names?"

"Sarada Uchiha..." He leaned in closer and smirked, "and Boruto Uzumaki."

"Uzumaki? The son of that..."

"Mhm."

The man gritted his teeth and slammed his fist on the desk, "no, no, no! You're saying those Otsutsuki scum failed?!"

"He is the Ninetails Jinchuuriki, after all."

The man glared at his assistant, "my time-space jutsu got into the sticky hands of the Hokage's son?!"

"Must've been. Who else could've come up with the jutsu?"

The man exhaled loudly as he came to a decision, "Hotatsu... Do it. But be sure not to touch the kids. They're not of any importance to us."

The man's partner, Hotatsu, tilted his head in question, "Then who is it we really need? The kids are enough."

"But." The man chuckled, "They're not as strong, since they're only coming from the source. But the source itself is the gold mine. The ones I really want are the strongest Kunoichi of the Hidden Leaf, Sakura Uchiha, the strongest Uchiha, Sasuke Uchiha, and the Ninetails Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki."

How can this be.... She knows my moves... Young 13 year-old Sasuke stood panting with a kunai defending himself as Sarada stood across from him, "We've been at this for thirty minutes. Just give up."

"How can you say that?" Sarada breathed, "you're clearly not the Sasuke Uchiha I know."

"Oh yeah?" Sasuke challenged, "I didn't realize you did know me."

"Well, the Sasuke I know never gives up. In fact, he's the strongest Uchiha I know."

"Are you kidding me? I'm the only Uchiha!" Sasuke shouted, feeling his blood boil.

Sarada forgot and never realized how her dad grew up. So she only stood up straight and dropped her kunai, "you're right. I guess I really don't know who Sasuke Uchiha really is. That's my error, and I admit to losing this spar."

Sasuke was in shock. He stared at her, then looked at Kakashi, who only sighed, "alright. That spar went on an awful long time. Winner is Sasuke, I guess."

"How's that hardly even fair?!" Naruto jumped up from his spot under the tree, "Sara totally beat Sasuke! He was just being a sore loser!"

"It's over, loser. Suck it up." Sasuke glared at Naruto, then walked up to Sarada. holding his two fingers out for her to take.

Sarada looked at his waiting hand, then at his expectant and cold face. She sighed, blew him off, and walked away, "I have to go find Boru."

Before they knew it, dark clouds started forming in the sky very quickly.

"A storm?" Naruto looked up.

"Doesn't seem like it..." Kakashi muttered as the clouds continued, then a light almost like lightning flashed brightly.

"Attention, Hidden Leaf Village." A projection of a man shown in the sky, his voice booming over them, "My name is Hotatsu Hyuga, a village time-traveler."

"'Hyuga'?!" Naruto muttered, "as in Hinata Hyuga?"

"Naruto." Kakashi shushed him.

"This is a warning to all of you." Hotatsu continued, "as a time-traveler, my boss and I have tracked a couple of loose-ends in your dimension. I repeat, there are two time-travelers in your midst that have the capability of bringing back others with them, ready to destroy the village. It is only myself and my boss who can save you now. Take heed to any suspicious wanderers in the village who are not on the village rosters as of this morning. Village Jonin, take precautions. Thank you."

And just as fast as the clouds came in, the clouds were gone.

"What..." Sakura muttered, "what the heck was that, Sensei?"

Kakashi didn't respond. He only continued to stare out into the sky, "Sara..."

Sarada jumped.

"You!" Sasuke shouted, "I knew it all along! Of course this blockhead wouldn't see it!"

"Sasuke!" Sakura shouted, "stop that!"

"Yeah, Sasuke!" Naruto stopped him.

"Don't you two see?! Anyone suspicious, not on the town roster as of this morning? She's the one! And how do we know that Boru kid that was with her isn't suspicious either?"

"Sasuke."

"Sara..." Sakura turned to Sarada slowly, "is it true?"

Sarada only stared at them, then up at Kakashi, who hadn't moved. Then without moving, she felt tears suddenly stream down her face as her gaze fell on Sasuke's cold glare.

"Sara?"

"Sara..."

"I'm..." Sarada couldn't help it. She cried in front of the boy she looked up to as the Hokage. She cried in front of her mom. Most importantly, she cried in front of the dad she wanted to impress and gain the attention of all her life, "I'm sorry, Sasuke... I never meant for--"

"Sara. Enough."

They all looked at Kakashi, his voice stern, "Sara... Or whoever you are. You need to fess up, now. Before things get out of hand."

"But..." Sarada looked around, then heard running behind her.

"Sara!"

Sarada turned and saw Boruto running up to her, "Borut--"

"We need to get out of here!" Boruto panted as he leaned on his knees, "did you see the message?"

"Yeah." Sarada looked around, "what are you running from?"

Naruto looked in the direction he came from, then pointed out, "Is that..."

Sakura gasped, "Hinata?"

Hinata ran towards them, "guys! Where's Boru?"

"Hinata, please help me!" Boruto pleaded, then returned his attention to Sarada, "chakra's charged, we need to get out of here."

"Oh no you don't." Sasuke crossed his arms.

Boruto's face went pale, "Uncl-- S-Sasuke...?"

"You're not going anywhere until you've explained where you two came from."

"That's right."

They all jumped at the sudden sound of the Lady Hokage's voice from right behind them, "sorry, kids. But you've got a lot of explaining to do back at my office."
