Chapter 99
"Do you believe it? He left me there for hours and had the audacity to come to scold me for not finding it the leave out of the blue, leaving me mid-conversation. With who was I supposed to argue and vent my frustration huh? The walls?" You were venting about Jungkook's behaviour to Seon as after you had found that green file and had taken it to Jungkook's office you had gone to visit her.
Jungkook had not been in his office when you had gone by, after that weird behaviour of his and that even weirder request he had made of you, which had only left you in confusion for he hadn't stayed to explain anything further.
"You two always are at each other's throats for no reason. I am genuinely surprised how you are still working together." Seon commented before taking a sip of her hot cup of tea which she had made once you had arrived since you also agreed to have one.
"Honestly, in the beginning, he used to threaten to fire me at least thrice a day, but now he has somehow subsided." You admitted, smiling a little at the recalling.
"He must have seen your worth. You do your job well after all."
"Nah, no way he thinks like that. He most like just gave up. He finally came to terms with the fact that I am stubborn and won't hesitate to talk back no matter what he is within the company." You uttered, feeling slightly proud of your achievement, even though as your boss he still had the upper hand.
"He used to never mix personal life with work no matter what but it seems in your case, he is making an exception. It's a relief honestly. You finally have a stable job."Seon smiled at you, feeling happy that things were finally going on a stable road with you at least in the economical department and she won't need to worry about you losing your job after a week as you used to till you got that post on Jungkook's company.
"What exception?! He vents his anger at me at every chance he gets! Do you think the fact that he left me looking for a file aimlessly was work-related? I am sure he just wanted to make my life difficult cause once again he got angry over something. Ah, the way I suffer. Honestly, If someone is tolerating someone, that's me! I should quit and find a better place that will treat me more fairly." You rumbled on, as your frustration took the best of you for you were still charged and annoyed with him and the fact that he left like that.
What were you even supposed to make out of that behaviour? You had texted Jimin and told him about his behaviour but he hadn't told you what was that he had said to Jungkook to make him angry and you were just left in confusion and frustration. Why the heck did you even when through all that searching?
"Oh come on, don't be like that. You are better than you have ever been on that post. So let the nonsense aside." Seon laughed at your words and lightly hit your shoulder, making you pout slightly over the fact that she did have a point but still, you considered Jungkook's behaviour very unfair towards you.
"Anyways, let's leave my stress aside. How is your book going? Did they approve of it?" You changed the subject, hoping to let your anger aside for the moment.
"Oh, thankfully they did. I was really stressed that they wouldn't but the editor was swiped by the new plot. He got so enthusiastic. After almost having a heart attack when I told him that I changed everything and started a new one from scratch though. He changed colours when he heard it. "Seon cracked up at the recalling, even though at that moment it hadn't been as funny as it was now that she was passed that moment. She was stressed that they will scold her and reject that spontaneous decision of hers, but thankfully, in the end, her new plot won them over.
"I can only imagine. See, you should be the one to not lose your job instead of telling me. You never used to play with such." You scolded her a bit and she nodded her head with a smile on her lips, totally agreeing with you.
"I don't think I will ever do something that risky ever again. But this one, I just had to because I couldn't find any other way of letting out my feelings. The more time passes the more I felt like my soul was being misunderstood and my heart was being misinterpreted and you know, I was always better at expressing myself through written words than verbally. I think writing this was the best decision for my mental health." Seon's words grew serious as she went on and you looked at her fondly, feeling proud of the fact that she had come a long way to get better with her emotions and thoughts.
It was nice seeing her smiling again, seeing no black circles under her eyes and hearing her voice in its usual tone, instead of that tiring weary one. She looked like someone that had fallen once into the pit of a well and had now found herself back on the surface of the light and was slowly learning to enjoy the little things of her everyday life.
"If it did you well then the risk was worth it and since ultimately it all went well, now you can rest and congratulate yourself. When will the book be out, though? We should hold a party for it. Celebrate the occasion." You showed your enthusiasm as your whole face lit up, finding this as a great opportunity for some fun. Since it's been quite a while you had a reason to have any kind of celebration.
"It will take around a month or so. They plan to speed the process and I will receive copies sooner than the actual time it gets published so, we can actually hold it soon, I guess."
"Yes! Finally! If you need any help with organizing it, I am one call away." You offered just as your phone started vibrating on the table where you had left it.
"I will have it in mind." As Seon replied, you took hold of your phone and saw that you had a text from Dae, that was telling you to urgently go meet up with her by her office.
You raised an eyebrow at the screen while reading that, perplexed over the reason she would ask such a thing from you at such an hour but then you texted her if everything was fine and another text popped on your screen, informing you that everything was fine, but she had something important to let you know and you shouldn't let anyone else know.
"Everything okay?" Seon's voice drew your attention away from your screen and you smiled at her, before giving her an excuse since Dae had requested for none to know.
"Just Jimin, telling me that he will be late. Nothing that I didn't already know. Whenever he goes out with the guys he is always late." You laughed a bit, however, you couldn't help but notice how Seon's eyes got filled with sadness at the mention of his name.
"He...he is doing better...really, nothing to worry about...but...I still think you two should have a talk." You couldn't help but touch on the subject despite how delicate it was, and Seon nodded her head in agreement.
"I would have liked him to read the book before I get to face him. Would you mind...I don't have the book now but I have a copy of the manuscript. If you can give it to him and tell him to read it, I would be grateful." She requested of you, with soft eyes that carried a sense of fear that you noticed and assumed the reason behind it too.
Seon was afraid, that Jimin would reject her. She was afraid that he must be fed up by now and might have grown tired of her. She had hurt him after all, more than once. She had put down his feelings, made them worthless, and had stepped over his sincere attempts to express his love for her. He had shamelessly and bravely risked it all and she had been too scared to choose his love, over her morals. Morals that she sure had stepped on many times because of him, but she still struggled so much with tearing them apart.
She didn't care much about what others will think of her. How she may come off as a person and what judgments others may put on her. For she within herself had really tried her utmost. She had tried to not fall into Jimin's arms, she had tried to go against her attraction for him, and she had tried to be what she was supposed to be for Jungkook, and who she should have been as a good human according to society. But just because her tries had all broken down that didn't mean that each time that happened, she hadn't been hurt. There were so many things she never wanted to do but ended up doing. So many things she never considered herself capable of doing yet she did. Even she had an impression of herself that she shuttered and that was a very painful process for her but it was also the start of her new journey of getting to know herself better and working on the things she considered worth changing.
"Of course, I can do that. I will make sure he reads it." You reassured her with a smile and she stood up to go take her manuscript while you stood up and put on your coat and gathered your belongings, thinking of heading to Dae.
"Oh? You are leaving already? I wasn't bringing it for you to leave immediately, I just thought it would be better to have it within sight so I don't forget to give it to you." Seon spoke as she returned to the room, with a nice paper bag that she had neatly placed in the folder with the manuscript inside.
"I know, I know, but I have to get going. It's getting too late." You smiled at her and she reached the bag to you once close enough, then you gave a hug to her and she walked with you to the front door to see you off.
"Text me when you reach home, okay?" Seon told you, as soon as you stepped outside her doorstep.
"I will, good night." You waved at her with a smile as you walked backwards down the corridor then after she close her door you turned properly around and walked towards the elevator.
You pressed the button and waited a bit, once it arrived and you found out that you were alone on the elevator, you took out your phone and called Dae, out of curiosity.
"Hey, just what is this about? What is it so important that you want to say? You know it's a hustle to make me come at such an hour all the way there, right?" You spoke as soon as she opened the phone, your eyes looking at the numbers of the elevator, that were going down.
"Yah, do you think it's something I can say from the phone? I am not allowed to say anything at all actually. I am here willing to step on my professional oath for you and you are speaking about distance?! The audacity...anyways, if you can't come all the way, just send me your location and I will meet you halfway" Dae's voice rang in your ears just as the number was about to reach the last floor and you smiled at her words while proceeding to sent her your location and place your phone again on your ear, to continue chatting, however, once that door was fully open, that small smile that had reached your lips because of her words, came to freeze, as you came face to face with someone waiting for you.
Someone, who gave you a smile that send chills down your spine and made you instantly aware that you should run, but there was nowhere to go.
"Lu-Luke" You mumbled his name just as your hand lowered from your ear, making Dae's face take on a confused expression as she heard your voice over the line but didn't understand.
"What? Aren't you happy to see me?" He asked you just as he tried to take a step inside the elevator and you screamed before pushing him and trying to run away, but unfortunately, he was quick enough to get a hold of you and muffle your screams with a cloth that he skilfully got out of his pocket.
He held you forcefully in place while you kept trying to free yourself, till you felt your strength leaving your body and your consciousness drifting into darkness. Your body didn't take long to fall numb on his arms, and he felt successful, ignorant that at the other side of the line, from your phone that had fallen on the floor, was listening to all that a shocked Dae, that hang up instantly in order to call for help.
"Oh my God...oh my god, Y/N, Y/N is in danger" She uttered in her panic as she dialled the police, only for someone to get hold of her arm as soon as she was going to bring her mobile near her ear, making her shot her head to the side, only to witness that Jungkook, which should have left a few minutes ago, had returned - for he had forgotten his jacket there and had recalled of it only once he had found himself in his car- and had overheard that last sentence of hers.
"What do you mean? Why is Y/N in danger?" He asked her while she stayed still staring at him, ignoring the voice of the worker that spoke on the other side of her phone, ready to hear her out on her issue.
As Jungkook observed her, the dread that took over her face, made his eyes instantly grow wide and as he turned the screen of her phone his way and saw that she had the police on the line, he hang up the call and took a good hold of Dae's shoulders, shaking her from her state of shock.
"SNAP OUT OF IT! What is wrong with Y/N? Where is she?!" He demanded of her and Dae's eyes looked at him just as she inhaled a sharp breath the started saying all she had basically heard.
"I was on the phone with her and I think someone kidnapped her. She was screaming and- and she mentioned a name-I - I don't remember but I have her location. We should call the poli-"
"Luke. The name was Luke, right?" Jungkook cut her sentence and she nodded her head vigorously as it did sound exactly like the name she heard.
And that was all it took for Jungkook to grab her phone and rush outside the door, not carrying to explain anything to her nor halt as her voice called out his name.
