Chapter 28
"There's no way, you must have misunderstood something" Ari couldn't help but find herself in denial as soon as Yoongi explained to her about Dae's strange behaviour lately, how she was missing from her office and didn't tell him where she was and about her strange phone calls, which of course were nonexistent.
"What exactly did I misunderstand. All that's left is, is to catch them in the moment... I will kill them both." He said angrily, wanting to convince her of frustration which in fact he didn't feel.
"Calm down, calm down. What murders and nonsense are we saying now. I'm telling you it must be a misunderstanding!" She insisted, now purely anxious with the whole situation.
"Come on, let's relax, take a deep breath and let it go." She patted his shoulder reassuringly but he didn't try to do any of her suggestions.
Instead, he wrapped his arms around her waist and hid his face in her hair as he hugged her, finding her unprepared for his actions.
"What will I do if it's true. I won't think I can stand it." He whispered to her, his voice sounding so fragile and hurt that it made Ari begin to sympathize with him.
Oh Dae, it is impossible that you have done such a thing, right? You would have told me!
Ari thought to herself as she brought her arms and wrapped them around Yoongi's body, tapping him lightly on the back to reassure him.
Who knew that he was the only one who was not worried because he was simply one step closer to winning that bet.
---change of set---
"Jimin, is something going on?" You decided to comment on his evidently nervous condition as you were on your way to Jungkook's and Seon's apartment.
You had said while at Jungkook's office that you wanted to visit Seon after work and Jungkook had become very eager for an evening meal altogether and for that he had taken his leave a little earlier to go through the supermarket to do some shopping.
You and Jimin had just started heading to their apartment, but Jimin was clearly annoyed and you knew why.
"Nothing, just ... Maybe we should go home instead. Why put them in trouble to cook and stuff now such a bother." He uttered a lame excuse while he avoided looking at you.
"Don't worry, Seon and I will cook together. It's been so long since we last ate together after all. Almost before the wedding now that I think about it." You cast your eyes on the ceiling trying to recall the last time.
"Right... Um ... but I'm a little tired and would like to go to bed early." Jimin couldn't give up on his tries to save himself, uttering one more excuse that actually got on your nerves.
"Didn't you say you took some days off? Why go to bed early?" You questioned him, as you left your harsh gaze fall on him and he fell silent.
"Did something happen with you and Seon? Did you have a fight or something?" You purposely added words that brought panic to his body, which he tried to control but without success.
"What ?! What could there be going on between me and Seon.! There's absolutely nothing going on. All is just fine. Why did you even think of such an absurd thing, to begin with? Why do have to try to make up a reason for everything anyways?! You are so obnoxious sometimes." His voice became hostile as he pressed the accelerator, making you fall silent at his rambling, for you did not want to irritate him anymore.
Although you weren't the one who had really irritated him, the truth that he couldn't hide forever was.
You proceeded to just look out the window and remained silent until you reached the parking lot of the Jungkook's apartment building.
"Go home. You don't have to come if you don't want to. I will come later with a taxi." You told him coldly just before you opened the door and got out of his car, closing it shut behind you and a forcible way that let him understand well that you were pissed off at him.
Jimin just left a deep sigh escaping his lips before bringing his head in contact with the steering wheel, knowing that he had only messed things up more again.
He's supposed to stay with you to correct the mistake he had made last night, not to yell at you again today.
"Damn!" He exhaled in irritation as he hurried to get out of the car, lock it and rush to catch up with you on the elevator, which you had just stepped into.
The door had a small opening just as he reached there and put his hand to make it open for him again, you turned your back on him once he made his way inside, hiding your teary eyes.
The soul-eating silence for him, remained until the elevator reopened its doors and the two of you stepped outside, walking side by side to the door of their apartment.
You rang the doorbell once or twice and Seon didn't take long to open up, with a wide smile on her face once she saw you. It's been a while since she hadn't met you and despite everything she couldn't help but feel happy as she brought you in her embrace, welcoming you.
"Finally Y/N, you remembered that I exist. You haven't been answering my phone calls for a while now either." She started complaining to you as soon as she broke the hug, and you smiled, observing her facial expression that fell off once she noticed Jimin's presence.
"Don't worry, not a minute passed that I didn't think of you... But I was .. Busy this time." You replied, pretending not to notice how uncomfortable both of them got just by sharing simple eye contact.
"Come in, what are you sitting at the door for." Jungkook's voice was heard behind Seon, bringing her to reality as she stepped aside and made way for you two to enter.
You came in first and with a smile approached Jungkook, whom you punched hard at his belly, catching him and everyone else unprepared with your act.
"Outside of work you are not my boss but it's been a while since I have wanted to hit you. Sorry, little one but you totally deserved this one" You informed him with a smile before tapping him on the shoulder and then proceeding to pass him by and relax on the couch.
"Where did the 'we do not mix work affairs with the outside of office life' Go? 'I wish I knew," Jungkook replied as he was still holding his abdomen, in slight pain, making Jimin burst out laughing, inwardly a little grateful to you who with this move had broken the awkwardness and nervousness he was feeling.
"Seon, do you need help with cooking?" You tossed her coat on the couch along with your bag as you spoke to her, getting ready already to go give a helping hand.
"We have ordered food and it just arrived some minutes prior. All we have to do is serve it on plates and make a salad. You can help with that if you would like." She replied and quickly disappeared into the kitchen, not wanting to be too much in Jimin's presence.
You followed as the two brothers sat together on the couch, soon beginning a conversation about work.
"How is my Seon doing? Has anything interesting happened these days that we have not met?" You questioned her cheerfully as soon as you set foot in the kitchen and approached the counter.
"Like what exactly? I'm home all day. Busy with my books. Ain't nothing interesting that could have happened under such monotonous days." Seon replied, her eyes fixed on the salad she had started cutting.
"Ah Seon, you shouldn't push yourself too much. Working is good and all but take a break sometimes. Get out, get some fresh air." You smiled at her as you stood next to her and started serving the grilled chicken in a few dishes.
Seon just nodded your head to your suggestion before flashing you a small smile for she knew, you always have wanted the best for her.
"You know what I just recalled?." You started, with a specific purpose in mind.
"The other day we had one at work, which was boiling during the break because she said her best friend had fooled her and had stolen money from her" You paused to look at her to make sure that she received this as nothing more but a usual sharing of random gossip that was normal between you.
"...and when I heard that I thought, how lucky I am that I don't have such untrustworthy friends. Imagine not being able to trust you, for example, sounds so absurd, right?" Your words brought Seon's hands to an unexpected stop as you laughed, pretending that you were finding that example ridiculous.
"What do you think Seon, don't you agree?" Seom turned her gaze to you and as soon as she saw the way you were looking at her, her hands began to tremble.
She knew that look well, she knew very well that these words had not been accidental and that scared her.
"Y/N... I .." She tried to speak but her tongue was tied in a knot, looking into your eyes that had softened visibly.
"You wouldn't do such a thing and if you did you would have a good reason for betraying me, Right?" You asked again, now your eyes get filled with tears but also carry a wave of certain anger in them.
"Oh, your eyes must sting. I will stop cutting onions." She told you as she brought her hands to your eyes and wiped away the tears that had not yet fallen.
You smiled back, bitterly accepting the fact that she had just tossed her chance to be brave and tell you the truth by pretending she couldn't understand what you were talking about.
"Damn it, who eats onions anyways."
Seon laughed at your remark, now thinking that something was going on with you but she didn't even want to think that you knew anything about her and Jimin, simply because she had no good reason to present to you for her actions.
But she didn't want to hurt you. She really didn't want to lose you and if pretending to be a fool, would give her the chance to keep you, then she will be just that.
Seon...you have changed...you really aren't... what I thought of you to be.
You realized a reality you disliked but couldn't run away from. She had no intention of saying anything to you even though you had made it easy for her to speak. You gave her a chance and she let it go because she had no excuses for herself.
She did not have a reason to betray you but she did. She broke you and threw in the trash years of friendship for mere laughter and fun. For mere pleasure and touches. How much better it would have made you feel if she could have at least something to justify herself because now that she didn't seem to, the fact only made you angrier at her.
It was irritating you and making you feel sick to the depths of your soul.
