☕️☕️
It was Thursday the next time he saw her. The coffee shop was less busy this time, as it always was rather quiet on Thursdays, thank goodness. But unfortunately the quietness of the day hadn't prevented the two unpleasant encounters he had experienced that morning - one with a "Karen" declaring that her hot drink wasn't sufficently heated, and another with a man who insisted he hadn't been given the correct change, with both insisting to speak to the manager.
With the quiet 'ring' of the cafe door bell, she had entered, wearing blue denim jeans and the same puffer jacket which, he now noticed, perfectly matched her beautiful green eyes and auburn hair.
Her high pony swayed as she casually strolled up to the counter, and, after a quick glance at his name tag, said,
"Good Morning David."
"Good Morning." He replied, his face brightening at her friendly demeanour and use of his name (most of the time he was just referred to as "boy", "barista", or "oi you!").
"How are you today?" She cheerfully asked, as she already began to pull out her purse.
"Oh." Would she never cease to surprise him? "Good, thank you. How are you?"
"I'm glad to hear it. I'm good, thanks for asking." She began to count out her cash, "May I please have a regular Mocha with extra foam?"
"Sure thing. That will be £2.20." He said as he scribbled the order down, and she handed the money to him with a cheery, "Here you go."
The cash register automatically opened and he put it away, marvelling at how she had given him exact change yet again. Something so minor, but showed a kind consideration which made things just a little bit easier for him.
He would have liked to talk with Eleanor a bit more, but he noticed a customer waiting behind her who was tapping his foot impatiently.
"Have a good day." He said with a nod and smile.
"Thanks, you too!" She smiled back as she walked to the waiting area, and David turned to the next customer with a friendly expression.
