Chapter 17

Read very carefully till the end.
——————————————————

"LAST CHRISTMAS I CAME TO YOUR HOUSE" Alice and Oliwia sang.

"BUT THE VERY NEXT DAY YOU KICKED ME AWAY" Mahnoor continued.

"THIS YEAR TO SAVE ME FROM TEARS" Abir joined.

"I'LL GO AND STALK SOMEONE SPECIAL!" Four girls screamed.

"Oh Is this some new song i never heard?" Asked a old lady at the door.

"It's our Christmas Special" Oliwia smiled creepily.

"Ohhh Kids these days! I could never catch up with those latest songs!" The lady says and disappears for a moment, reappearing with a pack of chocolate chip cookies.

"Yummy!" Alice whispers to herself

"Here you go children. Merry Christmas!" She gives the cookies to Mahnoor and shuts the door with a polite wave.

The four girls walk away from the door, as Alice stares at the packet in Mahnoor's hands.

"OPEN IT!" Alice screams impatiently.

"Don't! What if it's drugged or something? Didn't you see the way she was smiling?!" Abir bursts out and snatches the cookies from Mahnoor and places them in her backpack.

"She was a kind old lady Abir!" Oliwia says and heads to another house dragging Mahnoor and Alice with her.

Oliwia walks up the drive way, pulling Mahnoor and Alice along, then knocks on the door. She then looks over to her friends with a smile, "Okay guys, and a 1 and a 2 and a 3..."

"ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS-" they all sang

"MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME" Alice sang thinking about Shawn Mendes

"A JAR OF GLITTER FOR ME"

"ON THE SECOND D.." They stop as they notice the familiar yet frightening face of Sharon smiling and a second after she whispers something to herself and slams the door.

"That was mean!" Alice screams annoyingly and looks at her friends.

"It's Sharon. What do you expect?" Oliwia asks

"Kindness and Acceptation ?" She answers hoping it's the correct answer to Oliwia's stupid question.

"Idiot." Oliwia Stated and sent Alice a dirty look.

"Thanks for the Compliment!" Alice cheers up and runs to the next house.

"This house looks creepy." Abir pops up magically in front of Alice.

"Abir.. Do you actually find CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS CREEPY?!"

"Yeah... You don't? Santa reminds me of satan..." Abir whispers with a horrified shudder.

"Well satan reminds me of you!" Mahnoor retorted! Then she walked towards the creepy house.

"Santa and Satan are okey but don't get Abir involved in this Beautiful things!Eww!" Oliwia yawned and knocked on the door.

Abir stood their staring at the door, not moving nor blinking. Alice grabbed Abir's head and pulled it backwards.

"What the..." She started as she got interrupted by the squeaky noise indicating opening of the door.

The girls looked at each other as Mahnoor sang happily.

"ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS" Alice joined and nodded her head trying to tell the rest to join.

"MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME.." Oliwia echoed Alice's favorite line.

"2 DEAD PIGEONS AND A JAR OF GLITTER FOR ME!" Abir whispered to her self as the other three sang happily

They then paused and looked up to the person at the door.

The fading orange face of Barbara stared back at the four girls: Another unfriendly face.

Reminders of Barbie's disturbing Halloween costume were still present, her spray on tan and her pink painted nails.

The girls recoiled from the angered figure in front of them, stepping back from the door.

"Um... Merry Christmas? Do you have any cookies for us?" Alice spoke up quietly but hopefully.

Barbie simply sneered at the group. As the grimace spread across her face, she finally spoke.

"Why the fuck would I give you... you psychos cookies? Get away from my house and please, please, stop that awful singing!"

"7 POLISH POTATOES, 6 GIRLS-ARE-DYING, 5 CRAZY STALKERS, 4 SINGING WEIRDOS..."

"More like four psychotic weirdos" Barbara interrupted them. "Off you go! Run along... shoo shoo" she gestured with her hands

The four girls sighed and step away from Barbara's door, then turned around and began walking towards the next house on the street. Maybe the occupants of this house would be a bit nicer than the past two houses.

As they walked along the frosty pavement, a somber look spread over Mahnoor's face. By now they were used to other people's hurtful comments so it was a little unusual for Mahnoor to react that way.

She turned to her friends as they continued to walk and glanced anxiously at the girls before speaking.

"I know... a lot has happened recently and... we haven't really had time to talk about it. We've been so busy trying to just get back to our 'normal' lives and to focus on all of the fun and goofy stuff that we haven't acknowledged all of the... crazy stuff that's happened."

She finished with a small sigh and then looked back up to her friends.

All three of them are staring back at her in shock.

"That was so... unexpected Mahnoor!" Oliwia exclaimed in surprise.

"Are you okay?" Alice asked worriedly, to which Mahnoor snapped "I am fine!"

"Have you been keeping that all bottled up inside this whole time?" Abir asked anxiously.

"No? Well... yeah, in a way, I guess so. I just thought maybe we should talk about all of the strange things that have happened. Like FFs body going missing and the stuff that happened in the park on Halloween." Mahnoor continued as the group got nearer to the next house.

Oliwia frowned and looked quizzically at Mahnoor. "But we know what happened in the park. It was Filippa all along, she just didn't know that Fiona had.... well been killed."

"I hope Filippa is okay. I heard that her mum told her the news that very same day." Abir whispered sadly whilst opening the garden gate of the house in front of them.

"Why are you acting so sad? Filippa is just as bad as Fiona! I wouldn't say she deserved this but... well you shouldn't feel sad for her." Mahnoor mutters angrily before the group quietened down and prepared to sing again.

Alice glanced at Mahnoor's face worriedly, what had caused this sudden burst of anger? She then sighed and took a deep breath then began to sing the song.

"DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW-"

"ON A ONE-HORSE OPEN SLEIGH-" Oliwia continued instantly.

"O'ER FIELDS WE GO-" Mahnoor soon put on a fake smile for the show and joined in the singing.

"LAUGHING ALL THE WAY!" After a jab in the side from Oliwia, Abir finally started singing.

As the door opened, the four girls quickly quietened and grinned to the figure appearing in the doorway.

"Merry Christmas! What was that amazing sound? It was music to my ears!" The gleaming face of none other than Mr Milton, the girls geography teacher, smiled down at them.

"Ah, it's my pretty little psychos! I suppose you want some cookies or something for that marvellous serenade?"

The girls couldn't tell if he was being serious or not, but it didn't matter, when a man offers you cookies, you never say no!

Milton disappears inside his home and then reappears a moment later with a plate of fresh Christmas cookies.

"I made these for my fiancé, but I'm sure she won't mind if you take a couple. Just keep this our secret, okay?" He says with a somewhat creepy grin as he holds out the cookies to the eager girls.

While she munched on the chocolatey goodness, Oliwia suddenly looked up in surprise at her teacher, "Wait, cookies for your fiancé? You're getting married sir?! Who's the...lucky... girl?"

"Oh...um... you might know her..." Milton mumbles, his face blushing as he becomes surprisingly embarrassed.

"Tell us sir! We'll keep it a secret!" Alice promised as she finishes her cookie and reached for a second one.

"Well... it's... um... Miss Read..."

The four girls gasped, nearly dropping their cookies, and stared at Mr Milton in shock and amazement.

"Miss Read? the English teacher?! Really?!" Alice screamed in disbelief.

"But she's taller than you!" Abir argued as she looked up at Milton's short, chubby body and compared it to Miss Read.

"Okay, this is too weird. I think we should go now..." Mahnoor whispered to her friends whilst backing away down the garden path.

"Yeah, thanks for the cookies sir! And don't worry, your secret is safe with us!" Oliwia calls out as she follows Mahnoor away from Milton, grabbing Abir and Alice and dragging them with her as she walks.

Mr Milton waves goodbye to the girls, still blushing intensely. "Bye little psychos! Come back soon (I have more cookies)!"

"I wish he'd stop calling us that. We're not psychopaths!" Oliwia muttered as the four girls hurry down the path and towards the next house.

"Okay, it's getting late, we should probably start going home after this last house." Abir speaks up, being the sensible one as always.

"Alright, this better be a good house then! I hope they have cookies!" Alice grins happily as she runs up to the house and knocks excitedly on the door.

"Ugh I am sick of cookies" Mahnoor quietly said and then she joined in the singing.

"WE WISH YOU STALKY CHRISTMAS!"

"WE WISH YOU A STALKY CHRISTMAS!"

"WE WISH YOU A STALKY CHRISTMAS!!"

"ANNNND-"

"A CREEPY NEEEWWW YEAR!"

They finish with a bang and then grin as they exclaim- "Merry Christmas!" To the person at the door.

"What are you doing here? How do you know where I live? Go home or I'll call your parents!" The gruff voice of Inspector Ikbal pierces through the night.

"Inspector Ikbal! Where have you been?" Alice exclaims happily as she leans in for a hug.

"Get off! I don't celebrate Christmas! Go and bother someone else. I heard Mr Milton from your school lives on this road, go to his house!" Ikbal growls as he pushes Alice off him and steps back into his house, trying to push the door closed on the four girls.

"Hey! We won't leave until you give us cookies!" They exclaim back at Ikbal in frustration.

He sighs and glares at the four of them before gritting his teeth and opening the door again.

"Okay, fine! I don't have any cookies but I can make you some hot chocolate if that will make you leave."

The four girls grin and quickly rush inside before he has a chance to change his mind.

As they walked through the door all they could see inside was remains of pizza boxes wine bottles. So much for keeping the house in a good condition.

"Follow me" Ikbal ordered, the girls followed him without protest not wanting to anger the man.

They ended up in a what could have been a vivacious living room once. They doubted any spec of light had met this room anytime soon. "Take a seat" he said gesturing towards the sofa.  The girls obeyed as he continued "Make yourself at home... wait actually don't! I'll go and make hot chocolate. The sooner you get it, the sooner you'll leave"

The girls smiled politely at him as he left the room. Once he was gone they all looked worriedly at each other.

"Why would he invite us in?! He hates us" Abir panicked

"Unless he wants to..." Alice began

"No Alice!" Oliwia shouted, angry at her friend for having such silly thoughts.

With a sigh Mahnoor spoke "isn't it obvious? He wants to have a nice chat with us, not the kind of chat in which he simply glares at us as we roast him , but the kind of chat in which we actually talk about this whole situation we are stuck in thanks to our dear friend Fiona"

"Ohhhhhh" the other three said in realisation.

Mahnoor whispers "let's use our time here wisely and..." she stops in the middle of revealing her plan and smiles as nicely as she can  "Oh hi Ikbal"

The other three girls are all taken aback as they realise that he had come back to check on them just as they were beginning to form a plan.

"Umm nice house?" Abir mutters breaking the silence.

"Ugh sit down you four and dont move or touch anything!" He grins pointing at the sofa and when all girls sit down he heads to the kitchen.

The moment he disappears Alice jumps up and walks round the room, looking at the decorations that Ikbal has in his living room.

"Guys! He has pictures here!" Alice whispers and looks more closely into a picture of a young man, which was possibly Ikbal, and a little girl he was holding in his hands.

"Sit down Alice" Abir whispers hurriedly as she hears footsteps. The blonde girl quickly sits down and smiles pretending she didn't move.

"Here you go girls" he places a tray with five red mugs, filled with delicious chocolate drink, on the table.

"Ugh! Ikbal where is my whipping cream?" Oliwia screams at him annoyed "You should remember by now that I only drink hot chocolate with Marshmallows!"

"Sorry, Oliwia.." he nodded and went back to the kitchen.

"That was weird" Mahnoor pointed out and hurriedly got up and went to the place Alice was standing before. She held the picture and stared into the unusually familiar face next to Ikbal trying to work out who could it be . Aha just as she thought. The resemblance was clear, looks like grumpy Ikbal who hates children has a daughter...

"Ikbal looks so young here" she simply shrugged, not revealing anything else.

"HURRY UP DUDE ! THIS CHOCOLATE WILL NOT BE HOT SOON" Oliwia complained as she looked at the Mugs.

"I'm coming! Wait how do you do this?" Ikbal's protests could be heard from the kitchen.

"Ugh if you want something done you have to get it done yourself" Oliwia snaps as she starts to head towards the kitchen.

The other three girls sat there in a comfortable silence analysing  the room. Until Abir  squealed "Oh my Gosh!!! Is that 'Spice Girls' CDs?!"

Abir ran up to the shelf where Ikbal kept his CDs in a neatly organised manner, unlike the rest of the house. "I can't believe it he actually has the whole album"

"Really?" Alice exclaimed as she ran up to Abir and they both started to Fangirl over the band.

Perfect, they are distracted! Mahnoor thought, Time to find out what is being kept from her. Though the memories were starting to fade, she still remembered Halloween Night. The night she felt truly weak as she lay unconscious in the basement. At least she had managed to eavesdrop and find out some secrets.

Abir was guilty... No Oliwia was guilty... Abir was guilty! They were both guilty!

Abir was out in the woods where as Oliwia made a suspicious phone call.

Someone needed mental help not imprisonment.

This was all she had managed to understand that day. Guess it's time to figure out this puzzle. Piece by piece.

"Mahnoor! Where are you?! Look here! He has shiny stuff!" Abir calls out to her, distracting  her from her dangerous thoughts and her mission.

"Shiny!" She cheered and ran up to her friends looking at the thing she was pointing at.

"Ew. This is not shiny! Do you know what shiny means?! Glitter is shiny! I am shiny!" Mahnoor shouted dissapointed., annoyed at them for wasting her precious time.

She picked up an old key that Had the letter "F" written on it and shoved it in her pocket without others noticing.

I might need it one day she thought and joined into the conversation.

"Remember the song Wannabe" Alice asks Abir happily.

"Sure." Mahnoor lied having no idea what the girl was asking.

Slowly -very slowly- she started to back away, hoping this time her two friends would be too distracted to notice her disappearance.

She followed the distant murmurs of Oliwia and Ikbal all the way to the kitchen.

She stepped into the corridor and stopped in front of the entrance to the kitchen.

"Well, you know.. she only seems innocent. But she actually isn't" Oliwia clarified and laughed.

"Really? She seems normal. Rather annoying but normal" Ikbal stated.

Who are they talking about? Mahnoor thought as she tried her best not to move giving away any sign of her eavesdropping.

"Yeah I guess... but I'm just worried about her... she has stopped caring about anything, she keeps trying to get herself in trouble with relating herself with illegal activity " Oliwia began to talk. "You know getting high on sugar....and stuff"

"Yes... sugar...totally" Ikbal said amused.

"I think she's loosing it" Oliwia whispered "I mean she was already crazy enough... but now it's worse. Much worse"

"I don't think prison is the best place for her...." Ikbal began to speak

"NO! You can't! Don't you dare! She is my friend" the girl yelled furiously. "I mean she couldn't have actually killed Fiona" she reasoned.

"Yep in fact none of you did" Ikbal smiled at the girl.

Wait so the grumpy old Ikbal who has made his life mission to prove one of these girls guilty, thinks that none of them is actually the murderer? What is the point of all of this? It just doesn't add up!

Mahnoor lost control of her calm, collected self as the shock of his words got to her. She was clearly frustrated.

Her sudden movement must have caused Oliwia and Ikbal to realise where they are. They both became alert all of the sudden. Ikbal's smile was replaced with his usual frown "Ha as if! Kids these days don't get sarcasm... I have plenty of evidence to prove you are all involved in Fiona's Murder"

Sarcasm? That did made much more sense... but was it really sarcasm?

"What you talk..." Oliwia began but stopped as she saw the dangerous look Ikbal was giving her, after a second she began to speak again "Ugh you are so annoying, I hate you!"

By now Mahnoor had gotten bored and she had gone to explore another part of the house, wondering where Alice and Abir had disappeared to, it turns out they were in the front room, looking through Ikbal's belongings.

"Don't meet me again" Ikbal whispered to Oliwia, as they continued their conversation, "Just call me if you find anything else or....actually don't Do anything, just stay out of trouble, okay?"

"Okay... but just for the record: I don't look for trouble, trouble comes to me." Oliwia whispers with a sly smirk before flipping her hair and turning her back on the dumbstruck police officer.

She then walked up to the fridge took a can of whipped cream, and searched for a packet of marshmallows.

"Yummy!" She screamed grabbing a colorful packet and walked back to her friends who were in the front room.

"Alice leave it!" Abir exclaimed at Alice as she picked up an object from  sat down back on the sofa.

"No! I love this!" She screamed back holding a strange box in her hand.

What are you doing?" Ikbal appeared in the room, looking more annoyed than usual. "Sit down!"

Alice quickly did what she was asked, hiding the mysterious object behind her back,  and looked around trying to find her Italian friend while Oliwia sat on the floor and placed her ingredients in the table.

As she sat down, Oliwia placed a red mug in front of her and poured out a large amount of whipping cream onto the chocolate liquid and sprinkled on the marshmallows.

"Perfect!" She screamed to her self as she took a picture on snapchat and started to edit it.

"What's Perfect? Me? I know I am! I'm more than per.." Mahnoor started

"Shut up and Sit down!" Ikbal interrupted her talk. "Listen I have some important  matters to discuss and you aren't making it any easier for me"

"Sorry sir" they all said at the same time.

The police inspector studied the girls, wondering how could some teenagers have gotten themselves in so much trouble. Unless there was something else to this story...

That's when he noticed, from the corner of his eye, what Alice was holding so he snapped "LEAVE THAT!!!!" Causing the girls to jump in panic and worry about what had they done now to cause the grumpy guy to snap at them like that.

As he saw the worried faces of the girl he calmed down a little.

"Wouldn't want to get your little finger prints everywhere just so they can be used by someone to frame you..." He mumbled, trying to explain his actions.

None of the girls dared say a word. The thought of someone 'framing' hadn't occurred to them. Maybe they had just found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.

As if he heard their thoughts, the police officer continued "Don't you girls think that idiotic potatoes and stupid glitter is enough to get you four teenagers in jail for murdering your 'Best friend'?"

"Best Friend? Eww! Never." Alice commented on what he said " Who would want to be friends with that fake bitc..."

"Alice. Let inspector Ikbal finish his speech." Mahnoor interrupted her friend with a jab to her side before she could say anything bad.

"Potatoes and Glitter are not enough to tell us which one of you murdered Fiona" Ikbal continued as he watched Alice making sure she sits quietly "We cant say that you girls were actually involved.."

"So why do you think we murdered her?!" Abir jumps up annoyed.

"Sit." Ikbal gives her a dirty look and carries on "You four young ladies were in the woods that day!"

"Like always? It's faster to get home that way!" Oliwia muttered in annoyance.

"Wasn't it too late to be there? Didn't you get out from school few seconds after Fiona, despite school having ended hours before, and live near each other?" He paused and looked at Mahnoor and Oliwia "Anyway, the most important thing is that her body is still missing"

They all stare at Ikbal in silence waiting for him to continue. Although the quiet continues as Inspector Ikbal absentmindedly stares into the object Alice was holding few minutes before, forgetting where he was for a second.

Suddenly, a notification sound broke the silence and Ikbal looked up with a frown before walking towards his computer, opening the  Anonymous email, expecting it to be a random email from work.

But what he saw instead were the words:

WANT SOME MORE EVIDENCE?! HERE IS YOUR EVIDENCE:

Followed by some various files attached to it.

Subduing a gasp , he quickly turned off his computer and turned to give the girls an apologetical smile "Oh my, look at the time! You must really start going home"

"It's only 5pm" Abir said with a glance at a clock on the wall, to which Ikbal replied "It gets dark at 5 o'clock in the winter, run along now. You have Christmas to celebrate!"

"We don't celebrate Christmas!" Mahnoor and Abir shouted in unison  as Ikbal ushered them towards the door.

"Well, neither do I! I'm Jewish! Look, will you leave if I give you a cookie or something?" Ikbal muttered as he learnt against his front door and sighed in exasperation.

"I thought you said you didn't have any cookies!" Alice protested with a glare.

"I don't! Goodnight and have a merry Christmas!" The door slammed in the four girl's shocked faces.

"We don't celebrate Christmas!" Mahnoor yelled once more before turning to her friends. "But I do celebrate Boxing Day"

"Well, me and oliwia celebrate it so you can get us some presents!" Alice called out hopefully.

"It's no use, come on, let's just get out of here." Abir said as she gave Alice an apologetic smile and gesture for her friends to follow her down the path and onto the pavement outside Ikbal's house.

Ikbal put his head in his hands as he collapsed against the door.

The girls were finally gone, Ikbal was now free to-

Or not.

Ikbal turned with a furious glare at the opening door, preparing to yell at the face appearing in the doorway.

Abir's apologetic smile softened Ikbal's hard look.

"Hello sir! Um... I'm extremely sorry but my friend accidentally took something of yours and I just thought i should bring it back. Im terribly sorry for the inconvenience!"

Abir spoke quietly as she handed Ikbal the object Alice had taken before rushing back outside.

Ikbal stood, stunned by what had just occurred, but grateful that Abir had been the one to deliver the object and not one of the other much more annoying girls.

He gripped the object in his right hand and, with his left, he hurriedly locked the front door.

Turning back around, he stormed towards his desk. As he sat down on his grey office chair, Ikbal placed the object beside his computer and then opened up his email app.

Finally I can see who the hell sent this email... and how they know I'm looking for evidence, Ikbal grumbled to himself as he selected the anonymous email from before.

His eyes slowly widened as they scanned over the numerous files linked in the email. How did they get this information? Who could have done this..?

The answer was written clearly in black pixels nestled at the very bottom of the ominous email.

Two letters. The same two letters that had shook the four main character's world into a spiralling mess.

F.F.

Fiona...? Ikbal stammered as his eyes shot to the object placed beside him.

His shaking hands lifted the object-a rectangular picture frame adorned with subtle swirls of bronze-and he stared longingly at it as tears formed in his eyes.

The tears dropped one by one, covering the picture of a young girl, a young girl with striking emerald eyes and blood red hair tied behind her in a bouncy braid.

A young girl who looked unmistakably like none other than Fiona Filipowski.

Ikbal continued staring intently at the smiling face of a bright and bubbly girl, a girl who did, or could not know the sorrow and pain that she would soon cause with her death, whispering softly the only word he could manage: Fiona

But he did not cry for long. His moment of quiet contemplation was interrupted with the sound of someone screaming. A sound Ikbal has heard too often in his line of work.

He rushed to the door with out a moments hesitation and, in his panic, drops the item that seemed so precious to him only seconds before.

Fiona's face continued staring out of the frame with the same blissful smile and bright eyes she had before as the picture fell to ground with the abrupt sound of glass shattering.

Her face was the same, but, somehow, it seemed a lot more menacing as it stared through broken glass.

Meanwhile, only a few steps away from Ikbal's house, Alice had let out a scream of terror, causing her friends to stop with a gasp.

"What's wrong?"
"What happened?"
"Are you hurt?"

Her friends screamed back at her as they rushed to Alice's side.

But Alice only pointed in mute fear to something at her feet, unable to say anything to her shocked friends.

Abir tried to calm Alice down whilst the others stared at what lay in front of them.

"Is that-?"
"-Blood!"
Mahnoor and Oliwia exclaimed as they turned to each other in surprise.

Abir nodded sadly as she pointed towards the entrance to the woods that lay in front of them.

"Look. It leads all the way into there." She whispered anxiously whilst patting Alice on the back.

Alice looked up with a determined look and tried to pull Abir away from the woods.

"We can't be seen near another crime scene... Think about how suspicious this looks! We need to get out of here now!" She whispered quickly and urgently.

However, just as Alice tried to pull her friends away from the trail of blood, a booming voice was suddenly heard coming from down the street.

"What's going on here? Is everyone okay? Who screamed?" The uniquely miserable voice of Inspector Ikbal was visible through the layers of worry and panic.

The girls gasped and stepped quickly away from the trail of blood, not wanting to be seen any where near the area.

"Is anyone hurt?" Ikbal called out as he reached the girls, to which they simply shook their heads in reply.

"Okay, then what seems to be the problem?" Ikbal spoke calmly, whilst surveying the area.

Abir pointed reluctantly towards the ground, towards the blood.

"Oh...Shit." Ikbal muttered as he stepped closer to the blood covered snow.

"Why is it that whenever there's trouble, you four are never far behind? If one of you is the murderer, you're definitely not doing a good job of hiding." He said with an exasperated sigh before pulling out his phone and stepping to the side.

Abir frowned in surprise, "But... but we have an alibi! We were at your house only moments before! How could we have don't this?" She stammered angrily.

"We'll have to let the detectives deal with that. For now, just stay over there and look innocent, I need to call the forensics team."

But any trace of the girls was soon gone. With a sigh Ikbal started to retreat his steps as he waited for the forensics team to pick up the phone and that is when something caught his eye...

Meanwhile on the other side of the road, the four girls quickly hurried away from the scene.

"We are going to look so suspicious! We should have just stayed there and waited for the police." Abir whispered worriedly.

"No way! I'm not going to jail again!" Oliwia replied as Mahnoor and Alice nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, you don't know what it's like Abir, the last time we were in jail, you were unconscious!" Mahnoor explained with a sigh.

The four girls turned a corner and then froze as the unmistakable sound of a notification rang out.

They looked at each other in surprise; each of them had just received a new text message at the exact same time.

"It's an anonymous number..." Abir whispered as she looked at her phone.

"Enjoy your last xmas, my pretty little psychos. xoxo" Oliwia read the message out loud.

"What could that mean? Who could have sent something like that?" Alice whispered in fear.

"F.F." Mahnoor said in explanation, pointing to the bottom of her screen where the words were displayed as clear as a drop of blood on a cold, snowy day.

"But... she's dead!"

No one could speak. No one understood.

Who could they trust? Who was alive and who was...

Dead?
