CHAPTER 29
I fiddle with the keys in my hands as I stand on my front porch. The brisk wind blew past me, making me shiver at the feeling.
The November air was becoming stronger as the weeks went on, and it honestly was starting to feel more like winter every day.
Which I hated. I never dealt with the cold well.
I tried putting the key into the door and moving it around but had no luck. What the hell? Is this the right house?
I flickered my eyes around the medium-sized home that was very much my own and huffed in annoyance before a jiggle of the door on the opposite end opened the door, revealing my Dad in his pajamas.
"Hey honey, having troubles?" He thought it was quite amusing as he started to laugh and I rolled my eyes playfully as I walked inside through the door.
"No, what could you possibly mean?" I joked, slipping off my boots as I closed the door behind me.
"I thought you were a burglar for a second." He added, walking down the narrow hallway to the kitchen. I trailed behind him as the scent of delicious food met my nostrils. I took a deep breath and smiled wide to realize my Mom was making her famous spaghetti once again.
"Oh, I'm so ready for this meal." I sat down at the island, but my heart sank once I caught a glimpse of my Mom at the stove.
Her back was turned, and she had a wine glass right beside her. My eyes stared at the glass for a few moments before locking back onto her.
It's just one glass of wine, it can't hurt, right? She must be stressed out. A bunch of parents love their wine during dinner.
"How was school?" My Mom's voice broke the silence, and I shrugged.
"It was school."
"You always seem to say that." Her soft giggle lit up the room, and I smiled glad she was in the right state of mind. She turned around slightly as she turned the stove off, and started to hand out plates to each of us, "Dinner is ready."
"Thank you, Mom." I flickered my eyes to the plate and grabbed it from her as I stood back up from the stool. Making my way over to the stove, I started to scoop the spaghetti onto my plate, but I couldn't help but feel the tension creeping into the room.
The kitchen always was filled with laughter and chatter, but now it was silent with the fan blowing on the stove, making me wonder why I was feeling this way.
"I think I'm gonna go eat and watch the game." My Dad grabbed his now full plate and headed towards the living room.
My eyes wandered to my Mom who was now clenching her jaw. She picked up her wine glass and took a huge drink of it before setting it down.
What is going on with them?
"Is everything okay?"
"Sam, stay out of it for once." My Mom snapped before taking her plate of food and disappearing through the living room.
"Mom!" I called out, but no response.
I bit back tears forming in my eyes at the sudden change in our family, and plopped down into the seat at the dining table where we always had dinner. Now it was just me tonight, hopefully, this is a one time thing.
Suddenly my phone buzzed on the table, making me glance down at it before doing a double take.
Sammy's name popped up on matched.
Not gonna lie, I've been trying to distance myself from that app. Mainly because I had no idea how to deal with these new feelings I was feeling. Plus the guilt was definitely settling in at this point.
Sammy: eviee? you dead?
Eviee: Yes I am
I replied with sarcasm as a smile appeared on my lips.
Sammy: phew good, I thought you were alive.. lol just wanted to check in though since we haven't been talking recently?
Eviee: Yeah sorry, I've been super busy.
Sammy: no worries :) I miss you and our talks
Eviee: Well, I would say I'm free to talk tonight but I'm sadly not :( can we tomorrow?
Sammy: of course! I would absolutely love to
I sighed as I put my phone down before taking a bite of my spaghetti.
Not long after I finished my food, and ended up making my way up to my bedroom to wait for Sammy. The feeling of excitement was making my body feel fuzzy, and I tried to push it to the side.
I shouldn't be excited to see Sammy, but I am.
He never said what time he'd be over, but I was hoping soon because here I was just laying on my bed doing absolutely nothing, but just thinking of Sammy Sandars and the possibilities of physical contact we could have, or emotional conversations we could have.
Yeah...forget I said that.
I think I'm becoming more crazy by the day.
A soft knock was heard at my window, making me shoot my eyes over in the direction of my window. A surge of happiness filled my bones as I stumbled off my bed to run over to the window, revealing Sammy on the opposite end of it.
His red hoodie made him stand out in the darkness behind the glass, and a small smile appeared on his lips once I neared the window. I opened it slowly with a brief wave of cold air making its way in.
"Is that my enemy? Sneaking into my room?" I gasped with a shocked expression.
A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he looked at me through his dark lashes, "It may be? What about it?" He shrugged as he placed his hands on my shoulders, pushing me back so he could take a step in through my window.
Which he did so, very flawlessly at that. It's like he's done it a million times.
"Hm, I don't know? Usually, I don't allow my enemies inside my room." I crossed my arms as I was in thought.
He rolled his eyes, closing the window behind him as he shivered slightly, "Well, I'm glad you were so kind to let me inside from the freezing weather out there."
I sighed dramatically, "I guess I'll be kind, but only this one time. Next time I'm pushing you off the roof."
"I would absolutely love that."
"Of course you would." I scoffed, making my way to my bed until I felt a pull of my hand from Sammy, pulling me right back into his presence.
I swallowed as my eyes trailed up his body, and up to his face, "Yes?"
"Who said we were staying here?" A mischievous look formed on his face, and my face fell at his words.
"Wait, what?"
"Let's go on an outing...just us."
I smiled at his usage of the word outing.
"Where is this outing?" I asked with curiosity but all he did was shrug.
"Looks like you'll have to come with me to find out, yeah?" He raised his eyebrows, awaiting a response from me as I opened my mouth and then closed it as I glanced toward the door of my bedroom.
"You know what, yeah, that sounds fun." I grinned, turning my attention back up at him which made a wide smile appear on his lips showing off the dimple on his left cheek.
"Dress warm."

"Sammy, where the hell are we?" I asked as I looked outside of the window of the car.
We were now driving on a road surrounded by trees with barely any other cars on, which led me to believe the only thing he was up to was to kill me.
Goodbye, world.
"You should remember, and before you say anything, no I'm not going to kill you." His hands were on the steering wheel lazily as he glanced towards me and then back at the road.
I chuckled, "How did you read my mind?"
"Because I know you, Sam."
"Okay, then if you know me so well, describe me." I placed my arms in front of my chest confidently.
"You're Sam Ryder, a reserved girl who hasn't experienced much but is willing to. You want to live life to the fullest and are fine with having a small friend group. You adore your family, but the recent family problems have made you have a switch in your moods lately." He continued, making me slowly turn my attention to him in shock.
"How-" I started but he put a finger up, signaling he wasn't done.
"Your last boyfriend was an asshole who didn't treat you right, and you somehow can't seem to realize how fucking amazing you are." He stopped for a moment with a slight grin forming on his lips.
"Well, when I said describe me I didn't mean to tell my whole life story along with my flaws." I placed my hands in my lap as I fiddled with my fingers, a rush of heat painted my face at the fact Sammy was more observant than I had thought.
Wait..did he call me amazing?
"The only flaw you have is stealing the blankets in your sleep, but no, I just wanted to prove that I do know you." He took a turn on a rocky road, and I smiled at his words.
Little did he know, it meant a whole lot someone actually paid attention to detail.
"Stealing blankets is fun," I smirked, and he glared at me.
"Oh, I can tell." He chuckled softly as his eyes flickered around the road until we were met with grass at the end, "Almost there, do you remember now?"
My eyes moved toward the window and they widened in realization that we were in the same spot where we had gone camping. We just drove further down the road.
"Are we camping again?" I asked, a small laugh escaping my lips and he just shook his head with a slight movement.
"No, I sadly can't kidnap you tonight, but we are going to look at the stars." The car came to a stop, and he finally put the car in park. My eyes lit up as he spoke those words with my head turning back in his direction with excitement filling my body.
"I love looking at the stars! I didn't think it'd be clear enough to see them tonight." I say as I unbuckled my seatbelt, and got out of the car with Sammy following.
"That's why you come out this way where nothing is. An open field is the best way to stargaze." He shut his door before opening the back one to grab some blankets from his backseat, "I couldn't steal my Dad's truck tonight so these blankets will have to do on the ground."
A smile was plastered on my face at his kind actions, and for a moment I felt butterflies in my stomach. I walked over to the other side of the car as he was now spreading the blankets on the grass for us to lay on.
I helped lay them out, and we both sat on them with a few blankets to wrap around ourselves due to the brisk air in the night. I smiled, sitting down beside Sammy, and scooted closer to his body as my eyes trailed up to the sky that was painted with a million stars.
"Wow..." I said breathlessly and looked back at Sammy who was not looking at the sky, but at me. "This is amazing."
His lips curled into a smile before looking up at the sky, "Yeah, I come here all the time."
"Wait, really?" I asked, surprised at the fact.
"Yeah," he shrugged before laying down on his back, "To get away from my parents and my own problems...which I have a lot." He chuckled softly as he reached his arms out in my direction, hinting he'd wanted me to lay beside him.
I did as he said, and ended up laying my head on his chest as I curled up next to his body with multiple blankets surrounding us. The sound of his heartbeat made me close my eyes, and wish we'd never leave this spot.
"It seems we both have a lot of problems, how do we fix that?" I joked, placing my hand on the middle of his chest as I opened my eyes to look up at the sky.
"We help each other."
"Hm, I guess I can agree to that." I giggled as I glanced up at Sammy who was rolling his eyes playfully.
"Well, as long as you agree to not break any more hands." He narrowed his brown eyes onto me, and my smile fell into a glare.
"It was one time!" I exclaimed, covering up my face with laughter.
"As of now..."
"Sammy!" I slapped his shoulder playfully, and he put both his hands up in surrender.
"Okay, okay, I'll stop." His deep laughter soothed me as my head lay on his chest, making me smile.
"Good."
Silence filled the air with the only thing being the sound of his heartbeat against my ear, and the sounds of rustling trees. I cuddled closer to Sammy as the breeze blew past us, but didn't want to leave just yet. It was perfect just lying in comfortable silence as we looked upon the stars of the galaxy.
"You know," Sammy moved slightly, making me move off his chest as he propped up his elbow to look down at me, "I don't think I hate you anymore."
"Wow," I giggled as I looked up at him with his hair falling into his eyes, "You sure do have a way with words, Sandars."
"Oh, I know." He went along with my joke before shrugging, "No, like, you would think after us kissing it'd be awkward, but it makes me want it more. I think about you more than I should."
I looked into his eyes, and I couldn't help but admire them and how warm and kind they looked, "Trust me, the feeling is mutual."
He smiled with the dimple on his left cheek showing and moved his right hand to my own. Instead of holding it, he touched his fingertips against mine and pushed our hands together as if we were comparing the sizes of our hands.
I watched as our hands made contact and smiled to myself at how big his was compared to my own.
"If this were to ever be a thing, how do you think our parents would react?" Sammy asked, clasping his hand into mine.
I sighed, he was right. Our parents have no clue we've even hung out before in our life. Imagine them realizing we were dating at that.
"They would be furious, honestly, what is the whole feud between them anyway?" I thought to myself, I don't think either Sammy or I knew the exact reason.
"All my parents said was that it was over a business, and told me to not worry about it."
"Huh, my parents just kept telling me how horrible your parents were instead of giving me any details at all." I laughed as I rolled my eyes.
"Seems about right, I'm sure we'll learn eventually." His eyes fell to our hands as he brushed his thumb against my hand, and I couldn't help but smile.
"I hope so."
