CHAPTER 24

After about an hour in the bathroom, I was finally finished doing my final touches on my makeup and hair.

I haven't always been great at doing those things, but I did learn as the years of me and Skye being friends.

Tonight we were going to a fancy dinner, well that's what Skye said. She told me I better be dressed for the occasion or she'll dress me herself.

Sounds like Skye.

Suddenly my phone buzzed on the counter of the bathroom, and I picked it up to see what it was.

Sammy: hey did I scare you with that question?

My heart dropped realizing I hadn't responded from yesterday. Also because the fool was in the same room as me. I took a deep breath before raising my fingers to respond.

Eviee: I'm sorry, no! I got busy and forgot to respond...

Sammy: no problem at all, I was just thinking about you a lot :)

For some reason, my heart sank. I didn't know why, it was an odd feeling I haven't had felt before but I pushed it to the side as I just decided to respond to his question from yesterday.

Eviee: Is that so? Or is it because you were so desperate to know my turn-ons?

Sammy: maybe both...you'll never know

Eviee: Whatever, fine I'll tell you. Not that I have had many sexual experiences, but I'd say neck kisses would be at the top.

Sammy: typical girls and their kissing on the neck

I scoffed as I rolled my eyes at his comment.

Eviee: Stop it lol now you have to tell me one of yours.

Sammy: huh let's see, I like when girls take charge, but I prefer being in charge more ;)

My cheeks felt heat rising on them, and suddenly it was getting hot. Just imagining Sammy in some sort of sexual way has got me flustered, and it was seriously freaking me out on why he was starting to make me feel this way.

"Sam? You almost ready?" I heard Sammy's deep voice on the opposite end of the door.

I was about to start typing back but fumbled with my phone once I heard Sammy's voice with it falling out of my hands and onto the floor. I groaned in annoyance before bending down to pick it up.

"Yeah! Hold on," I picked my phone up and dusted it off thankful it hadn't cracked.

I glanced up in the mirror for a slight moment, catching sight of me in yet another dress. I sure was wearing dresses a lot, and I blame Skye for that one. Tonight I did feel pretty in the dress, which was rare.

I always had insecurities about my looks, especially with being in high school, it was hard not to. Plus the relationship with Travis definitely killed off any type of love I had for myself...

But tonight, I actually loved the way I looked. My hair was in a bun with loose strands poking around my face as they framed my round face, and for my makeup, I decided to go on the lighter side which Skye always tried to force me with the all-glam look, but I was never into it.

The light shades of eyeshadow complimented my brown eyes, and even though I went light, I decided to be bold with a deep shade of red for lipstick.

I smiled as my eyes trailed down to my dress which hugged my curves just right with it flowing out at the bottom. I don't know what it was, but I loved long-sleeved dresses and tonight I had one on again, except this time it was a black dress with a small detail of lacing around the top with the cleavage being more than I'd like, but I really actually liked it.

I fixed a few strands of hair, and quickly opened the door but was taken aback to see Sammy standing right outside of it. His eyes were locked onto me as soon as I stepped out of the bathroom, and for a moment, I think he was checking me out?

No, don't be silly Sam, he wouldn't do such a thing. He's always said you were unattractive so why would he?

His eyes ran down my body and back acting as if he just didn't do such a thing, and he quickly snapped away from mine as he was trying to search for his shoes.

"Nice dress." He spoke, making me furrow my eyebrows at his comment.

"Really?"

"Yeah," He smiled in my direction as he reached down to grab his shoes from the corner, "Black makes your pale skin even paler." His smile was now a smirk, and I rolled my eyes.

That fucker.

"How funny?" I squinted my eyes.

"I'm a pretty fun guy, I know." He responded as we made our way near the bed.

He sat on the bed and started to put on his black vans. I sat beside him, waiting as he did so and I couldn't help but finally take in what he was wearing.

It wasn't a tux this time, it was more casual but he sure did pull it off making it look formal. He had black jeans on along with a black collared shirt with it open, revealing a plain white shirt underneath which hugged his body just right, defining his torso.

I watched as he was bending down to slip on the black vans, and he added some accessories which made me laugh softly. He was wearing a beaded bracelet on his wrist and a small silver chain around his neck.

Kill me now.

"Sam, I think you're drooling." He says, making me snap out of my thoughts and back into reality.

"Huh?"

"Checking me out? I know, I'm hot." He replied cockily, making me roll my eyes.

"Shut up, I was not checking you out. I was laughing because you decided to go all out for this dinner."

"Yeah? I'm trying to be the hottest one there."

I can't win with this man.

"I'm so glad we're doing this! Thank you all for coming." Skye says cheerfully, making me smile at her.

We decided to go for a booth in the corner, and of course, she and Ryan were on one side and Sammy and I on the other. She wasn't lying about this place being fancy either, it was top-tier. I'm surprised we're even allowed in. The lighting was dim, and it seemed like a place you would take your Valentine's date.

My eyes wandered around the huge restaurant, the ceilings were tall and the main colors were dark with them being black and red. Waiters and waitresses were running back and forth, and the chatters of small talk and plates were heard in the distance.

"Thanks for planning it, Skye! Ryan is a lucky man." I finally responded, moving my attention back onto Skye and she nodded along with my words.

"I could've told you that."

Ryan rolled his eyes before putting an arm around Skye's shoulders, "We all know I'm lucky, but yeah, thanks for all coming even though you two have the weirdest relationship known to man." Chuckling, he slowly raised his drink to his lips as he glanced between Sammy and I.

"What can we say? One day we hate each other and the next..." Sammy moved his eyes onto me and scrunched his nose up in disgust, "Yeah, no, it's just hate."

"Hate is a strong word." Skye pointed out.

"Strongly dislike?" I question, making Skye narrow her eyes on me.

"Sure, we'll go with that." She waved her hand in the air before our waitress came back to the end of the table.

"Is everything looking alright?" She asked, her bright blue eyes jumping from each of us and we all nodded in agreement.

"Of course! Oh—it's his birthday," She motioned to Ryan sitting beside her and he squeezed his eyes shut, probably already knowing what was to come with Skye being his girlfriend.

"Aw, happy birthday! Will a small slice of cake be okay?" She raised her eyebrows as she was asking.

"Of course, actually it's my birthday too, I think I need a slice of cake as well." Sammy piped in, and I slowly turned my attention onto him as he looked as confident as ever.

"Oh," the waitress looked like she didn't know what to say, probably because she wasn't sure if he was joking or being serious.

"It's alright, he's just a dumbas—dumb person." I corrected myself, with the rest of the table snickering at my comment. Even the waitress was laughing.

"I'll get you guys a plate with a few slices." She winked before turning around with her notepad in her hand.

We all made sure to thank her as the table's laughter died down.

"Wait! Damn, I forgot to ask if we could all sing happy birthday too. Oh well, I'll ask when she gets back." Skye's posture slouched slightly at her forgetfulness and Ryan shook his head dramatically.

"Please no."

"Come on, Ryan. You know you would love all the attention on you." Sammy grinned from our side of the table, and by the looks of Ryan, he wanted to strangle him.

Hey, me too, Ryan. Me too.

"Baby! Please, it's a special night." Skye pouted, and it didn't even take a minute for him to give in.

As Ryan and Skye went back and forth, Sammy leaned in closer to my ear with his scent nearing me more with that amazing cologne he used.

"You cold? You have goosebumps." Sammy leaned over to whisper in my ear, sending chills down my spine. I closed my eyes at the sensation before he spoke again. "You want my jacket?" He asked, and my eyes flickered around his face, curious on why he was suddenly being nice.

"I mean, no it's alright. I can't mess up my outfit." I made up a lie, not because I didn't want his jacket, but because if I had taken it, wouldn't that be weird?

Wearing the person's jacket you so call say you hate most in the world right in front of your two best friends. One of them being a loud ass person known as Skye.

He smiled in return and nodded his head at my response before my eyes fell to my lap. It really was cold, but I guess I'll survive.

Fancy places always tried killing the customers off with it being a freezer in here.

"Hey, all! Here's the plate of cake," The waitress came back, with us all turning back towards her. She placed the plate in the middle with a few variations of cake, and I smiled pleased at how kind they were to do such a thing. "Happy birthday!"

"Oh! Can we all sing?" Skye exclaimed, making Ryan slouch into his seat as he buried his face in his hands. "Don't mind him, he's excited." She placed a hand on Ryan's shoulder, with him peeking through but none of us missed the smile he had on his lips.

And that's what we did.

We sang Happy Birthday and enjoyed the night as friends.

The door closed softly behind us, signaling the night was over. Ryan and Skye said their goodbyes and good nights to us before shutting the door, and Skye didn't forget she somehow managed to get alcohol from Ryan's aunt inside our rooms.

She made sure to let me know she and Ryan would be getting drunk that night and we could join if we wanted, but them being drunk in a hotel room together probably ended up with them doing things we wouldn't want to see.

So I kindly said no to that offer because obviously, my best friend was trying to do things my holy eyes should not experience.

I slipped my boots off and made my way toward the bed as I flopped down onto it. The sounds of Sammy doing the same behind me, and soon the bed dipped beside me.

"And then there were just two." Sammy sighed.

"Unfortunately."

"I'm not that bad, let's be honest." He sprawled out on his side as he was propped up on his elbow against the bed.

"Yeah...no, definitely not." Sarcasm filled my voice as Sammy rolled his eyes.

"Whatever, so are you okay with sleeping in the same bed? If not, I could always be lonely on the floor." He asked to be sure but made sure to throw some of his famous Sammy humor in.

I chuckled softly, "It's fine, Sammy. As long as you don't touch me." I pointed my finger in his direction and he waved his hands to his side in surrender.

"Yes ma'am, but no promises."

"What was that?" I titled my head to the side, slightly surprised at his bold words.

"Huh?"

"What?"

"You didn't hear anything," Sammy smirked before moving his attention from me and onto the ceiling with his back now against the bed.

"Sammy Sandars!" I gasped dramatically, "Are you flirting with me?!" I pointed into his chest playfully.

"No, I was just kidding." He sat back up as he rolled his eyes at me.

"Sure, that's what they all say." I sang, jumping out of the bed and skipping over to the giant window that took up the whole wall across from the bed.

My eyes lit up at the sight, remembering what we saw today till now was breathtaking. The buildings had tiny specks of lights along them, and as before the cars were so tiny but this time they looked like small bright dots in the distance.

"Sammy!" I called out, but to my surprise, his presence was right beside me already as I turned to look for him. I jumped as I was startled before a small laugh escaped my lips, "Damn, you move fast."

"I know."

I rolled my eyes before turning them back out the window.

"You ever wonder if the people that live in these kinds of buildings, like penthouses and whatnot, get used to views like this?" I asked, placing my hand on the window before removing it.

"Honestly, yeah. It's kind of like people who live by the beach. They get used to it and sometimes take it for granted unlike us who don't live near a beach, we use it as a vacation."

I turned toward him with a smile, "That's kind of sad, isn't it? I would never take this for granted."

"Me either." He responded but was looking at me as he spoke.

I smiled before closing the blinds, "Well, until next time." I shut the curtains after the blinds were shut, and turned toward Sammy as I clasped my hands. "I'm gonna get ready for bed, but you should turn on some reality show on Netflix."

I walked over to where I had my stuff sprawled out, it was honestly a complete mess in the corner and I could already feel Sammy's gaze on my back as I was now on the floor searching for my laptop.

"It's on the bedside table." He chuckled, shaking his head at me in amusement, "Maybe try being a bit more...clean?" He tilted his head, and I threw a glare in his direction.

"Not everyone can be clean like you, Sammy!"

"You wish you were, though." He crossed his arms in front of his chest, pleased with getting arise out of me.

As he always did. He loved messing with me.

After one final glare, I ignored his comment and made my way to the bathroom to take my makeup off along with letting my hair down.

"Just, pick something out!" I yelled from the bathroom.

"What was that?! I couldn't hear you?"

"I said—"

"No, please, I was just kidding. You're loud enough." Sammy's laughter filled the room beside the bathroom and I groaned in annoyance.

If I could, I would strangle the fool.

After what felt like forever, my makeup was off and I was changed into comfy clothing which included some silky shorts and a plain shirt. My hair was sprawled down past my shoulders, and I felt a bit self-conscious at the fact I had makeup off and the way I would be looking before bed.

Yeah, I shouldn't care what I looked like in front of Sammy, but for some reason I was scared he'd make fun of me. I took a deep breath and gave myself a pep talk in front of the mirror before opening the door.

The lights in the room were off, it being pitch black with the bathroom light being the only light on, and helping my way back to the bed.

"Sammy, you trying to kill me or something?!" I walked out of the bathroom doorway, and he started to snicker from the bed.

"No...I figured you were like a superhero or something and could see in the dark." He reasoned with sarcasm, and I took a very deep breath and released it.

Stay calm Sam.

I turned the bathroom light off with the whole room going black. The only light now was the one coming from the laptop on the bed with Sammy. I made my way toward the bed, but not without stumbling against furniture on the way.

Finally, I reached the bed as I reached my hands out and opened up the blankets revealing Sammy in sweatpants and no shirt. What the hell? Who said this man can take his shirt off.

Wait, who said he could have this good of a body. My eyes did a double take as I lifted the blankets up and over my body as I dipped in beside him. The light reflected against his face, and he smirked over at me as he was now turned to face me with the laptop being moved in the middle of us.

"Where's your shirt?" I clenched my jaw, at this point, I don't care if he accuses me of staring. It was already hard enough being in the same bed as him, and now he's trying to use his good looks against me.

"On the floor."

"Why?"

"Because I sleep without a shirt?" He furrowed his eyebrows, confused what the problem was.

I sighed, "You know what, I'm too tired for this. What did you pick out?" I pulled the blankets over my shoulders as I turned toward him and glanced down at the screen with a smile creeping onto my face.

"It said you were watching this previously so why not?" He shrugged his shoulders.

It was Love Island.

"Wow, so kind of you." I cuddled more into the blankets and shivered at how cold it was inside the room.

It literally feels like a freezer in here.

Both our eyes landed on the screen once he clicked play, and the small flashes of light reflected off us both. A comfortable feeling washed over me, and I felt at ease.

We watched in silence for a while, with small chuckles coming from both of us as we watched a couple do something stupid.

I never thought I'd be lying in the same bed as Sammy, especially sleeping beside him at that. The scent of his cologne still lingered, and I closed my eyes at the fact they were getting heavier. As much as I wanted to watch the drama unfold on the show, I couldn't watch it any longer.

I felt the laptop move, and opened my eyes to realize Sammy had moved it to the side table, closing it in the process, "Well it didn't take long for you to get sleepy." He spoke, almost in a whisper. A breathy light escaped his lips, and it sent a shiver down my spine as his breath hit my face.

The darkness surrounded us, and I could barely make out his facial features. We were facing towards each other, and I laughed softly.

"Doesn't take much to make me sleepy," I mumbled, my mind drifting off to sleep, but it was so hard to fully sleep when it felt so cold in the room.

"I'll keep that in mind." He responded, moving his hands in between us with them brushing against my skin on my arms.

I let out a breath before speaking once more, "Are you not cold?!" I whisper shouted, getting aggravated at the fact these blankets are doing nothing. "Maybe we should turn the heat on or something."

I was about to get out of bed but was soon pulled down by my waist, getting pulled closer to his warm body.

"What the—Sammy?" I stuttered.

"Sam, just shut up for once in your life and let me keep you warm." He whispered, our faces were inches apart and I could feel his soft breathing against my skin.

My eyes fluttered closed, and oddly enough, my heart was racing as I felt heat creep up onto my neck and face.

This time I was blushing, and on top of it, I was finally warm.
