Chapter 9
At the lunch break, Nami was sitting across the table with Shinso while nibbling on a rice ball.
"You did amazing out there, Hitoshi!" Nami complimented.
"Thanks," Shinso said, scratching the back of his head. "We both made it to the final round."
Nami gave a thumbs up. "Remember you have to come at me with everything you got."
Shinso smiled tilting his head. "I trust you to do the same." He looked at his meat bun. "I want to talk to you about that teleportation move of yours." Nami tilted her head. "How does it work?"
"Essentially it feels like getting sucked in and out of a black hole without getting spaghettified," answered Nami putting her rice ball down, Shinso looked up at her. "It takes up a lot of energy, so I don't think I'll be using it often until I get stronger." Shinso tilted his head the other way.
"What is your goal with the Sports festival?" asked Shinso. "Are you aiming for the top?"
"Not anymore," Nami admitted crossing her arms. "In this next round, all of us will get to truly display our quirks and how we use it. You need to focus on it too."
"I'm not in the hero course," Shinso reminded her.
Nami reached across the table bunking him on the head. "People are still going to take notice of you, and when that switch happens from general studies to hero course, you are going to have agencies lined up wanting you!"
"Right," Shinso said looking down at the table. "So, what is your goal now?"
"I do wish to beat Todoroki," admitted Nami. " He is the son of my dad's boss." Shinso started laughing. "If I lose all that matters is that I display I can wield my quirk well."
" Just keep Todoroki guessing at what you thinking," Shinso advised leaning across the table. "Your blank most of the time makes people think nothing goes on up there in that head of yours." Nami pouted putting a hand on top of her head. "I'm saying it's an advantage, Nami."
After lunch, Nami was informed that all the girls had to wear a cheerleader uniform. So Yaoyorozu made them for all in Class 1-A.
"Get those foam fingers in the air!" Present Mic shouted. "It's almost time for the last round! But before that! Good news for everyone who didn't make the finals. Since this is a sports festival, we've prepared some super-fun side games that everyone can participate in! We even brought in cheerleaders from America to get your blood pumping!"
"Ah--" Aizawa gasped.
"Hold up," Present Mic said.
"What are they doing?" Aizawa asked. Nami glanced around to see the girls in her class were the only ones in cheer uniforms for UA. She looked to see the other girls feeling defeated and embarrassed.
"Looks like Class 1-A is going' full-on fan service!" Present Mic announced Kaminari and Mineta cackled.
What?! You tricked us?" Yaoyorozu shouted angrily at the two. "You're gonna regret this!" She fell to her knees in defeat. "Why is it that I always end up falling for that little pervert's stupid schemes?" Urakaka and Eva kneeled beside her. "I even used my Quirk to make these outfits."
"Ugh, I hate those guys!" Jiro growled throwing her pompoms to the ground.
"Well, we do have a little time before the finals start, and I kinda like these uniforms, so..." Haragkure said as she waved her pompoms around. "How 'bout we just roll with it!" She danced around a bit.
"Are you crazy!" Jiro yelled.
"Wow, Toru. You've got skills," Tsu complimented.
"I'm with Hagakure on this one," said Nami clapping her pom poms together. "I feel super cute!" She then struck a pose while sticking out her tongue.
"Are you crazy!?" Jiro yelled again.
"Wow, Takeda, that's a nice pose," Tsu complimented putting a finger on her face.
"Have fun competing in these little side games, everyone!" Present Mic encouraged the cheers of the fans. The screen turned to brackets. "After they're over, the 18 students from the top four teams will be duking out one-on-one in a tournament-style fighting competition! I promise you're not going to want to miss these epic matchups!"
"Aw, yeah," Kirishima breathed. "Finally getting the chance to show what we're made of. I watched these finals every year and now I'm actually in them!"
"So wait. Is it always a tournament?" Mina asked.
"The final's always a one-on-one competition, but they switch it up every time."
"Last year it was a foam sword-fighting match."
"Come closer and draw lots to see who you're up against," Midnight ordered. "Then enjoy the recreational games before we start. The 18 finalists have the option of participating in those activities or sitting out to prepare for battle. I'm sure you all want to conserve your stamina. I'll start with the first-place team."
"Um. Excuse me," Ojiro interrupted raising his hand. "Sorry, but I'm withdrawing. " Everyone gasped.
"Ojiro, no way!" Izuku gasped.
"Ojiro?" Eva asked. "Are you sure?"
"But this is a rare chance for you to get scouted," Iida reminded him.
"It just won't be right," Ojiro said lowering his hand. "I barely remember anything from the cavalry battle until the very end of it." Izuku gasped. "I...think it was that guy's Quirk. I know this a great opportunity. I wish I could take advantage of it, but my conscience won't let me.
"Just think about this," Iida advised.
"I have, okay?" Ojiro grunted. "Everyone gave their all in round two, but I was just someone's puppet. No way. I don't wanna advance if I don't even know how I got here. It wouldn't be fair."
"You're making way too much of this!" Hagakure exclaimed. "Just kill it in the finals and prove you should be here."
"Yeah, what she said," Mina agreed. "I didn't do much in battle, either."
"That's not it," Ojiro said as he put a hand over his head. "I'm talking about my pride here. I refuse to give that up." There was a small gasp. "Also, why are all the girls dressed like cheerleaders?" All the girls groaned.
"Stop groaning and feel cute!" said Nami striking another pose; the other girls gave her a look.
"Niengeki Shoda from Class 1-B," a small boy greeted stepping up. "I think I should withdraw for the exact same reason. Regardless of how strong I am, this isn't how I wanted to get here. It would go against the values of the festival to advance without earning my spot."
"Listen to these guys!" Kirishima teared up. "They're so manly!"
"Well, now," Present Mic said. "Here's another weird turn of events."
"We'll have to see what Midnight has to say about all this she's the only one in charge," Aizawa said.
"This sort of talk is incredibly naive, my kids," Midnight said. "That turns me on! Shoda! Ojiro! Shiemi! You're withdrawn!"
"Did she say it turns her on?" all the students asked.
"Don't worry," Aoyama assured, grabbing Ojiro's shoulder. "I'll win it for you."
"Now, let's see," Midnight began. "We'll have to move up three students from the fifth-place cavalry team so we have enough contestants."
"We were frozen most of the time," Kendo said. "Honestly, we barely did anything in the cavalry battle. Isn't that right?"
"Uh-huh," a girl nodded.
"Girls?" Kendo asked the other members of her team. They nodded as well. "You choose from the group that kept fighting the whole time. Team Tetsutesu."
"Kendo!" Tetsutesu exclaimed.
"I'm not doing this as a favor. It's just fair."
"Seriously, you guys! Thank you!" Tetsutesu cried out.
After some discussion, the people were chosen. "And so, Tetsutessu, Shiozaki, had advanced to the final! Take a look at the brackets my dears! These are your opponents!" The crowd cheered as everyone observed the screen. Nami saw her opponent was going to depend on the outcome of her match against Shoto and Sero.
"What a fickel," huffed Nami putting her hands on her hips." How am I supposed to strategize like this?"
"Think of it this way," said Sero tilting his head. "In the real world; you never know who you are going up against and have to adjust then and there."
"True," nodded Nami tilting her head the same way. There was Tetsutetsu and Kirshima.
"Seriously!" They both demanded. "How does this keep happening?" Then Tokoyamni and Yaoyorozu.
"I'll give it my all," Tokoyami said.
"Good," Yaoyorozu grunted. "That's all that I ask of you." Then Aoyama and Mina.
"Ma Cheri, I'm afraid it's the end of the road for you," Aoyama stated with a wink.
"I can't wait to meet your butt!" Mina cheered. It was Izuku vs Shinso, Todoroki vs Sero. Bakugo vs Urakaka. Kaminari vs. Ibara. Iida vs. Hatsume.
"Okay. Let's press pause for a momentary interlude!" Present Mic announced. "Before the battles begin, it's time for some pulse-pounding side games!"
"Woo-hoo!" Hagakure cheered.
"First, how about a scavenger hunt?" Present Mic asked.
"Hey, anyone up there got a bag that can give me?" Sero asked.
"Can someone toss down a duck plushie?" asked Nami waving her card around, in front of a section.
"A cat?" Sato asked. "Anyone sneak a cat..."
"Anyone got..." Kaminari began.
"What in the heck?" Mineta trembled at his card.
"What a joke," Monoma grunted as he leaned against the wall. "They're actually taking these dumb games seriously? As usual, those Class 1-A idiots really need to get their priorities in check."
"Monoma!" Kendo shouted running up to him. "If you're not playing come with me."
"Okay," Monoma agreed, she held up a Perverse Person card. She trapped him in enlarged hands and carried him off. "I think you may have the wrong impression of me, Kendo."
"Trust me, this fits," Kendo grunted. As the festivities went on, Nami kept in what Sero said. He was right, in the real world, sometimes have to strategize as they go. She also kept in mind what Shinso said about her blank look. Soon the finals were beginning. Cementoss was creating the fighting ring.
"That's it, I'm pretty much done here," Cementoss confirmed.
"Thank you, Cementoss!" Present Mic exclaimed. "Hey, sports fans. Are ya ready?" The fans cheered even more. "After all the action you've witnessed, it's time for the real battles to begin! Can ya feel the excitement? Our competitors are on their own now! Sometimes, heroes have only themselves to rely on! Heart. Skill. Strength. Wisdom. Courage. They'll have to use all these things to rise to the top!" Nami was sitting with classmates in the stands, between Iida and Tokoyami. Nami wanted to watch closely for Shinso's match since he was first up against Midoriya.
"Hey, Takeda," greeted Sato leaning over to her. "Why are you still in that cheer costume?"
"Because it's cute," Nami smiled. "Even though it was a trick, Yayorozu put in hard work for these, I'm not going to let her energy go to waste."
"You really are crazy," said Jiro shaking in her head.
All four corners of the fighting ring light up with fire.
"All right audience! Let's cut to the good stuff and not delay these finals any longer!" Present Mic exclaimed. "Welcome our first fighters." The screen showed Shinso and Izuku. "Whoa, he looks kinda scared in that picture, doesn't he? It's Izuku Midoriya from the hero course versus...Hitoshi Shinso from general studies, who really hasn't done anything to stand out yet." They both entered the field. "The rules are simple! Immobilize your opponent or force them outta the ring. You can also win by getting the other person to cry, uncle! Bring on the injuries, 'cause we've got our very own Recovery Girl waiting on standby! So put your morals aside and don't be afraid to play dirty! But of course, no life-threatening crap, folks. It's not allowed! Real heroes use their power to throw villains in jail, not kill them!"
"I'll stop anyone who tries to get too rough," Cementoss said as he took a seat from the chair he made.
"So, you can just give up huh?" Shinso asked. Izuku gasped. "In a way, this is a test of how strong your spirit is. If you know what you want your future to hold for you, you can't worry about what other people think."
"Ready?" Present Mic asked.
"That monkey earlier was going on about his pride earlier," Shinso brought up.
"Begin!" Present Mic announced.
"But I just think he's an idiot for throwing away his chance like that," Shinso said.
Izuku gasped, he started to growl, and he started to go forward. "Don't talk about Ojiro that way! You hear me?" He suddenly came to a stop and Shinso smiled.
"That's it, I win," Shinso confirmed.
"I warned him not to say anything!" Ojiro groaned, getting to his feet.
"Huh?! Hey, hey, what the dealio?" Present Mic asked. Iida and Urakaka got to their feet. "This is the first match! It should start out with a bang! The fight has just begun and Izuku Midoriya is...completely frozen?"
"Come on Deku," Urakaka urged.
"Why in the world would isn't he moving?" Iida asked.
"Well done, Shinso," Nami smiled; her classmates looked at her.
"You should be rooting for your classmate!" Iida scolded her.
"Just whose side are you on?" asked Urakaka.
"Shinso of course," answered Nami looking over with a peace sign. "He is my best friend after all."
"Huh?" Kaminari sounded.
"He's not moving a muscle!" Present Mic continued on. "And what's with that look on his face? Could this be a Quirk at work? Hitoshi Shinso seems to have Izuku Midoriya completely stunned. He didn't stand out in the first rounds at all, but it's possible Shinso's crazy powerful! Who could've imagined this turn of events? That's the Festival for ya!" He laughed.
"This a perfect example that the entrance exam isn't rational," Aizawa said.
"Huh? Why's that?" Present Mic asked.
"Since we're on to the individual matches, I had some information complied about final competitors," Aizawa began to explain. "Shinso failed the practical exam to get into the hero course. Since he also applied for general studies, he probably figured that would happen. His quirk is incredibly strong, but that entrance test consisted of fighting faux villains. Robots. It gave a huge advantage to those who had physical superpowers they could show off. Despite his abilities, Shinso never stood a chance at passing."
"So here we are," Shinso said. "You're lucky to have been so blessed, Izuku Midoriya. Now turn around and walk out of bounds like a good little hero." Izuku slowly turned around, making his way to the line.
"Uh--What?! Ah! Midoriya's obeying him!" Present Mic exclaimed.
"Oh, no, Deku, what are you doing?" Urakaka worried.
"He can't walk out of the ring!" Iida exclaimed as he chopped at the air. "He'll lose the match if he does!"
"Hitoshi Shinso!" Present Mic exclaimed. His Quirk: Brainwashing! When an opponent answers his question, it flips a switch in their minds, forcing them to do whatever he says. Not every question does it, though. He only brainwashes when he wants to. Not very flashy--"
"What are you doing, kid?" All Might demanded. "Get back in there and show him what you're made of!"
Everyone intensely watched Izuku walk over to the line.
"Even with a Quirk like this, I have my own dreams of becoming a great hero," Shinso said. "So lose for me." then at the last minute used his power to break his fingers, snapping him out of the trance. There was a strong shock from it, Nami grabbed hold of Iida's arm bracing the shock wave.
"What's this?" Present Mic asked. "Midoriya stopped just in time!"
"That's the way to do it!" Iida shouted as the crowd cheered.
"Whoa. I was about to freak out!" Urakaka admitted.
"Whew, that just about killed me," Ojiro said as he put a hand over his heart, Izuku looked back at Shinso.
"No. Impossible," Shinso grunted. "You're not supposed to be able to fight back! What did you do?" Izuku put a hand over his mouth. "How'd you do that?" Izuku turned his body fully towards his opponent. "Come on, say something. I didn't know you had so much power in your fingers. I'm kind of jealous." Izuku started to move forward. "Thanks to the way my Quirk works. I've always been at a big disadvantage. But someone as blessed as you wouldn't understand that. You're lucky enough to have a heroic Quirk! It'll be easy for you to reach your goal!" Izuku put his hands on Shinso, pushing him back. "Say somethin' dammit!" He punched Izuku, and the green-haired boy continued to push Shinso. "He's pushing me out." He punched Izuku's broken fingers, cried out, and then ran back a bit. Izuku's nose was bleeding. "You've gotta be kidding me! Get out of this ring, you lucky brat!" Shinso pushed Izuku towards the line, Izuku stopped right before, let out a yell of pain, grabbed Shinso's arm, and flipped him out. Everyone was in complete shock.
"Oh no, Shinso," Nami frowned, puffing out one cheek.
"Shinso is out of bounds!" Midnight announced. "Midoriya advances to the next match!" The crowd cheered happily.
"And with that expertly performed throw, we have our first victor of the finals! Class 1-A's Izuku Midoriya!" The crowd cheered wildly.
"Ugh!" Urakaka sighed as she sat back down. "That was so nerve-wracking!"
"Turning the tables at the last moment--" Iida added. "A classic Midoriya maneuver!"
"He's pulled that shoulder thrown on you before, huh?" Kaminari asked.
"Shut your damn face, Sparky," Bakugo ordered.
"Oh, yeah!" Present Mic exclaimed as the screen changed to his face. "That was actually kind of a boring first match, kids. But both of you fought bravely. Let's show them some love, everyone!" People clapped.
"Why do you wanna be a hero? What's driving you?" Izuku asked.
"You can't help the things your heart longs for," Shinso answered as he walked away.
"You were awesome out there, Shinso!" a student from the general studies shouted. He gasped looking up at his class and the other general studies students.
"We're proud of you!"
"You didn't tell us you were that good!"
"Yeah, you're the star of our program!"
"I can't believe you put up such a good fight against the dude that was in first place earlier!"
"Listen to them!" They parted for Shinso to listen to some of the heroes talking.
"With a quirk like that, it would be very simple to capture dangerous villains. Wish I had it."
"I can't believe they stuck him in General Studies. Those idiots."
"Well, there are a ton of applicants each year. Guess sometimes people slip through the cracks.
"If only he had more combat experience."
"Yeah, I bet he would've dominated."
"What a waste."
"Shinso, you hear that?" a guy from the general studies asked. "It's great! They think you're incredible!"
"Depending on the results, they might transfer people into the hero course," Shinso said. "Remember that. Even if it didn't work out this time, I'm not giving up. I'll get onto the hero track, get certified, and then, I'll become a better pro than any of you." Izuku grunted in response, he got brainwashed again. "You know, usually people tense up, whenever they talk to me. If you're not on your guard, someone's going to defeat you. So be careful." Izuku gasped. "You better not lose and make me look bad."
"I won't!" Izuku promised, but he got brainwashed again. Izuku went to Recovery Girl; Nami sat up more for the next upcoming match; it would determine who she would be going up against. Urakaka and Iida scooted down one seat.
"Ah! There you are, Deku!" Urakaka exclaimed looking back, they looked to see Midoriya.
"Come on down here," Iida insisted, he pointed to an empty spot next to him. "We saved a seat for you!"
"Ha! Thanks, guys!" Izuku smiled at them; he went and sat between Iida and Nami. Ojiro gave him a cheerful air fist bump. The flames on the fighting ground rose again.
"Takeda was hoping that you would lose," said Ojiro.
Midoriya gasped. "WHAT?!"
"It is not like I put money on it," shrugged Nami,
"Why would you even put money on it, in the first place?!" demanded Iida as he chopped on the air at her.
"Enough standing around!" Present Mic shouted. "Now welcome to the ring, our next players." The screen showed Todoroki and Sero.
"He's got skills, but at expense of some really creepy-looking elbows," Present Mic said. "From the hero course, it's Hanto Sero!"
"That was uncalled for," Sero said as the crowd cheered.
"Versus an early front-runner in the competition who's way too strong for his own good. Someone who rightfully got into the hero course based on recommendations. It's Shoto Todoroki!" The crowd cheered. "And now, for the second match of the finals. Ready?"
"Well, I don't really feel I can win this fight," Sero admitted.
"Begin!" Present Mic shouted.
"But man--" Sero smirked as he tied Todoroki to his tape. "I don't feel like losing, either!" He swung Todoroki around, going to swing him out of bounds.
"That attack could throw his opponent out of bounds!" Present Mic shouted. "A brilliant, surprise opening from the underdog! Way to start off strong, Sero!"
"Apologies," Todoroki said angrily. He stopped suddenly, spreading ice everywhere on his foot. He gave out so much ice that the building began to shake, he basically created an iceberg. It went out of the arena. Izuku, Iida, Urakaka, and Nami all gasped loudly as they backed away from the ice that almost hit them. Todoroki broke from his ice.
"Um..." Sero breathed, he was frozen to the iceberg. "Don't you think you went overboard?"
"Tell the truth, Sero," Midnight said as she trembled from being so cold, and half covered in ice. "Can you move at all?"
"Are you kidding? Obviously not," Sero answered. "My body is freezing!"
"Sero has been immobilized!" Midnight announced. "Todoroki advances to the second round!"
"Um. Well, nice try?" a guy said.
"Nice try!" the girl next to him shouted.
"Nice try!" People in the stands shouted.
"Sorry, it was a bit much," Todoroki apologized as he began to melt the ice. "I was angry is all."
"Looks like you are going to be going up against, Todoroki," said Midoriya looking over at Nami.
"Yeah," nodded Nami. Even from high up, she could tell that Shoto was feeling down. 'This is going to be a tough match, Shoto can do precision and long-range attacks.' She looked at her hand. 'It was not that long ago that all my limbs came back, he is going to do his big opening ice attack. Since Todoroki seems bent on not using his fireside...I know he hates his father and I don't blame him...but...'
"Hey, Takeda," said Jiro bringing her out of thought, she looked over. "Just don't get frozen over." Nami put a hand over her mouth and began laughing.
"Rubbing in Sero's wounds and he isn't even here," said Tokoyami. "Shameful." As soon as the battlefield got melted, they moved on to the next match.
"Time to welcome new competitors!" Present Mic shouted. "Even beautiful flowers have thorns. It's the assassin from Class 1-B. Ibara Shizoaki from the hero course! Versus the boy with an electric personality! Another hero in the making, Denki Kaminari! Keep those eyes peeled. I wanna see a super flashy battle this time!"
"Excuse me!" Shiozaki cut him off. "Please pardon the interruption. I'm not sure why you called me an assassin. I've come to the festival in search of victory, not to take my opponent's life. That wouldn't be in line with the values of a hero at all, sir."
"Right, I'm sorry," Present Mic apologized.
"Gentlemen, I didn't enter UA for wicked or selfish reasons, but to deliver salvation to others!" Shiozaki explained. "It is my humble quest to spread true good across this world."
"Listen, I said I was sorry!" Present Mic shouted. "That was my bad, okay?"
"I thank you for your kind understanding," Shiozaki smiled. She bowed a bit.
"I thought everyone in Class 1-B was a jerk," Kaminari admitted. Shiozaki made her way to her side of the battlefield.
"So, anyway, begin!" Present Mic exclaimed.
"What do ya say me and you go out after this?" Kaminari asked. "I'd be happy to treat you to a bite. And comfort you after your loss. 'Cause this is all gonna be over in two seconds, honey." Kaminari lit up in lightning. "Indiscriminate Shock. One point three million volts!" He sent a shock to her, Shiozaki turned around, and her hair created a shield, sprung up through the ground, and captured Kaminari.
"He's immobilized! That's all, folk!" Present Mic shouted. "It was over in an instant."
"The winner is Shiozaki!" Midnight shouted. "She advances on!"
The crowd cheered. "I am just so thankful that I was able to make the most of the opportunity I was given today," Shiozaki said.
"Oh, yeah!" Tetseutesu shouted. "Way to represent Class 1-B!"
"Man, she's good," Jiro commented.
"Guess he was right," Monoma said appearing over the wall next to him. "That match really was over in just two seconds. I wonder if his real Quirk is the ability to tell the future? Hey, Wasn't Class 1-A supposed to be so much better than us?" He started laughing, then stopped before falling behind the wall.
"Sorry about him," Kendo apologized as her face appeared over the wall.
"I hate that guy," Yaoyorozu, Jiro, Mina, Tsu, and Nami all thought at the same time. The heroes in the crowd started to comment.
"As soon as she detached her vines, it was over. No way was he going to avoid those."
"Yeah, and his electric current couldn't travel through them, so he couldn't hurt her.
"Excellent offense and defense."
"That binding hold was really impressive. Smart girl."
"Kaminari never stood a chance against her."
"It's tough when someone's quirk cancels yours out, but he still could have put up a fight," a robot said as they carried Kaminari.
"I've seen Kaminari in action--he's super strong," Izuku said, Nami looked over to see that he was diving into his notebook, taking notes and muttering. "But Shiozaki placed fourth in the entrance exam. And those vines. I wonder if she's studied Kamui Wood's moves. Binding attacks can be really powerful. I hardly ever seen anyone break out when they're used. It would be impossible to get close to her while avoiding all those thorns and vines. You'd have to find some way to tear them off or just hack your way through using brute force. Oh, but in order to keep you from doing that, she'd probably go after your hands first, so then what do you do?"
"Maybe you should take a sec to relax before planning too many matches ahead," Urakaka suggested.
Izuku yelped. "Oh, sorry!" He turned to her. "Sometimes I don't realize I'm talking out loud when I'm taking notes. It's not every day I get to see incredible Quirks from people outside our class." Ochaho chuckled. "Uh, actually. I've been taking notes on everybody in our class, too!" He showed her a page. "Here's what I've got on your Zero Gravity!"
"Uh---" Urakaka froze. She then laughed. "You know Deku. I've always known that you're amazing. You've got so much drive and focus in you. And the sports festivals reminding me of that."
"Uh?" Izuku gasped.
"Let's keep pumpin' out these hits and move on!" Present Mic shouted. "Time for the fifth match! Get ready to watch two new players duke it out!" The crowd cheered. "He's the kid with engines in his legs. Tenya Iida from the hero course! Versus...a fully-equipped gadget dynamo. The support course's Mei Hatsume!"
"So it's hero class versus support," Jiro noted.
"I have no idea what this fight will look like," Tsu admitted.
"Uh, what's up with Iida?" Sato asked. They saw that he was wearing a ton of gear, he buckled something around his waist. "Where the heck did he get all that gear from?"
"Hero course students can't use support gear unless they have to," Midnight scolded Iida. "And you didn't fill out any of the proper paperwork for that.
"I didn't know the rule!" Iida defended himself. "Aoyama got to wear his belt, so I thought it was fine."
"He turned in the proper forms," Midnight informed.
"I apologize, ma'am," Iida bowed. "It's just that, my heart was moved by my opponent's sportsmanship. Even though she's from the support course, she wanted this to be as even a match as possible since she made it this far. To have a fair fight! So, she offered to give me this equipment." He clenched his fists. "I respect her integrity! That's why, to honor her, I would like to wear this gear!"
"Such youthful vigor!" Midnight gleamed her cheeks were red. She giggled in joy, before regaining her composure. "I'll allow it!"
"Really?" Present Mic asked.
"I guess if everyone's okay in agreement, then it's okay," Aizawa said. "Right?"
"Well, if everyone's on the same page, let's begin the fourth match!" Present Mic exclaimed. Iida immediately ran towards Hatsume.
"Bet you like how fast that gear makes you!" Hatsume smiled. "Huh, Iida?" She had a mic on her.
"This sounds like the beginning of a commercial," Eva noted.
"Huh?" Izuku asked.
"She's got a mic?" Iida asked.
"Hey, now," Present Mic grunted.
"Is she wearing speakers?" Aizawa asked.
"Don't your legs feel lighter than usual?" Hatsume asked. "That's to be expected. I designed those leg parts specifically to increase the wearer's speed and mobility. "But of course." Hatsume shot up from rods on her backpack, making Iida almost trip over it. "I can easily evade you with my hydraulic attachments!" She kept evading Iida easily. "Since I've got sensors in every direction, it's impossible for an opponent to sneak up on me!" Iida yelped as the thing on his back spat out air.
"What the heck is going on!?" Iida demanded.
"Look at how adeptly Iida just changed his course!" Hatsume chimed. "It's all thanks to the ingenious auto-balancer I created."
"This weird," Present Mic commented.
"She's turning the festival into one big commercial," Aizawa commented.
"There's absolutely no lag time!" Hatsume continued. Iida growled angrily. "The auto-balancer is equipped with a custom 32-axis gyro sensor!" Iida spun in circles around the line. "As you can see, it can keep the user from falling unless they actually want to." Iida got away from the line.
"I thought you said this was going to be a fair fight!" Iida roared as he rushed towards her. With her boots, Hastume shot into the air, Iida let out a yell as she cackled. "That's right, I'm practically flying through the air! These electric shoes use electromagnetic induction on both feet. They're perfect for evasive maneuvers or just keeping things light!"
"As soon as she lands, I'll stop her!" Iida declared as he lit up his engines. Once Hastume landed, she shot a pink net at Iida, trapping him. "Huh? What's this?"
"A captured gun to use against villains!" Hatsume answered. "The nets are loaded into small cartridges. You can fire up to five before having to reload! And all of these items were developed by yours truly--Mei Hatsume, support course prodigy! So, to any support companies out there looking for strong new recruits, the choice is clear. You want me! Again, I'm Mei Hatsume, that's H-A-T-S-U-M-E. And now, let me introduce you to a few more of my babies." About eight minutes later, Hatsume was down shoving off her babies, and stepped out of bounds.
"Whew! That was fun, but I think now I've shown off everything I wanted to," Hatsume smiled as the sun shined on her. "I supposed it's time for me to wrap this show-up.
"Uh, Hatsume stepped out of bounds, so Iida advances to the next round," Midnight declared.
"I can't believe I let you trick me!" Iida raged.
"Sorry about that," Hatsume said half-heartedly as he made her way off the stage. "I needed to use you to make a name for myself."
"I looked like a fool!" Iida shouted as he chopped at the air.
"Iida's so sincere, he trusted her motives," Iida shook a bit. "She probably made it sound like she was doing him a favor. She's so driven. Straightforward about her goals." He was jotting down in his notebook. "From what I can sell, she'll do whatever it takes to reach them. Amazing."
"You are excellent at looking at the brighter side of things," said Nami. " A true prodigy."
"Thanks!" beamed Midoriya with a big smile.
"We're gonna charge right on along to the sixth match," Present Mic announced. "Let's hope that gaudy belt serves some kinda purpose. It's Yuga Aoyama from the hero course!"
"Bonjour," Aoyama greeted.
"Versus...is there some kind of purpose for those things sticking out of her head?" Present Mic asked. "From the same class, Mina Ashido!"
"This match is gonna be a piece a' cake," Ashido giggled.
"I do believe you're going to be eating those words, mademoiselle," Aoyama glimmered.
"Come on, Mina, you can do it!" Tsu encouraged.
"Don't show her any mercy, Aoyama!" Mineta shouted. They looked back at him. "Fight like you're in one of those video games where everyone's clothes get beaten off!
"You pervert!" Jiro grunted at him, they looked back at the match.
"A match between Aoyama and Ashido," Izuku muttered as he flipped through his notebook. "Let's see. Considering what their powers are, Aoyama will probably keep his distance and try to attack with his laser from far away. So it'll all depend on whether or not Ashido can dodge his attacks manages to use her power against him in close combat. Problem is, there's nothing much for her to use as a cover in this ring. So she's at a slight disadvantage."
"Now let's get started!" Present Mic exclaimed. "Fifth match...Begin!
"Navel laster, activate!" Aoyama shouted, his navel laser shot out.
"Think again!" Mina shouted as she jumped over it. She slid around the ring on her acid. "We were on the same team for combat training, so I know all about your Quirk, Aoyama."
"I can say the same thing about you," Aoyama said as he shot out more of his Quirk.
"Sure, but there's a big difference," Ashido responded. "I remember something you said. I know your weakness!" She continued to dodge his attacks.
"Here's a big one!" Aoyama shouted; Mina easily avoided it. "Ow. My tummy." Aoyama was trembling.
"There's my shot!" Ashido shouted as she threw acid at him. It got on his pants and belt.
"Oh, no!" Aoyama panicked. "Oh, no, no, no! Not my precious belt!"
"For my finishing move..." Ashido said as she got right up to Aoyama. "An uppercut!" Aoyama fell backward.
"Aoyama has fainted!" Midnight announced. "The winner of this match is Ashido!"
"Dang, Aoyama went down hard!" Present Mic shouted as the crowd cheered. "That's an indisputable victory if I've ever seen one, sports fans!" Mina was happily smiling, throwing up peace signs.
"Wow, Mina is amazing!" Tsu complimented. There was a thud, Eva and a couple of others looked at trembling Mineta.
"I got to see panties, but why were they his?" Mineta asked.
"Oh, for crying out loud," Jiro groaned.
"Now, let's not let this hot streak cool," Present Mic said. "Time to move on to the seventh match! Offense and defense in one! The dark samurai and his darker shadow! From the hero course, Fumikage Tokoyami! Versus...The great creator! She was admitted because of recommendations and I think we can all see why. Also from Class 1-A, Momo Yaoyorozu!"
"How do you think one will end?" Ojiro asked. almost like petting it. "Any clue?"
"Timing is going to be the key thing here," Izuku answered.
"Oh? How so?" Ojiro asked.
"Sixth match...Begin!" Present Mic shouted.
"Go, Dark Shadow!" Tokoyami shouted.
"I got her!" Dark Shadow exclaimed as he rushed out of Tokoyami. Yaoyorozu quickly formed a shield, Dark Shadow slammed into it.
"Now it's my turn to attack," Yaoyorozu said as she began to create an item. Dark Shadow slammed into her before she could. He slammed into her again, making her lose her shield. Yaoyorozu formed another as she let out a few yelps." Dark Shadow stopped attacking when Yaoyorozu made a pole.
"Yaoyorozu!" Midnight shouted. "You're out!" The girl gasped, she looked down to see one foot completely out of bounds. "This match goes to Tokoyami!" The crowd cheered Tokoyami bowed as Yaoyorozu stood dumbfounded.
"Yikes!" Present Mic yelped. "Another fast, overwhelming victory! Is it possible that Tokoyami's Dark Shadow is the greatest Quirk ever? I think so!"
"I lost..." Yaoyorozi breathed. "I didn't even...do anything."
"Tokoyami is way too powerful," Izuku sweated. "I can't believe he forced her out of bounds by focusing his attacks on her shield. He obviously had a strategy worked out."
"Yeah, I guess so," Ojiro agreed. "Maybe he didn't wanna hurt her," Ojiro suspected. "I bet she's really upset about how that went down. I feel bad for her."
Izuku looked. "Where's Urakaka?" He was staring at the water, Urakaka left behind.
"Okay, let's see who we've got for ya next," Present Mic said. "The eighth matchup includes two completely redundant Quirks! One of them's a passionate manly fighter made of steel. The hero course's Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu!"
"Bring it!" Tetsutetsu raged.
"Versus...a passionate, manly fighter made of rock! The hero course's Eijiro Kirishima!" Present Mic announced.
"Seriously, even our intros are the same?" Kirishima teared up.
"Make us proud, Tetsutetsu! Win just like Ibara did!" Kendo shouted.
"Look alive, shorty," Jiro ordered as she jabbed one of her earplugs into Mineta, he was asleep.
"Can't wait to see how this one ends!" Present Mic shouted."Begin!" Tetsutetsu ran towards Kirishima, he was steel and yelling. Kirishima hardened himself, and ran forward, yelling as well. The fight was going to go on for a bit, and Nami left the stands with Izuku and Iida.
"You're going up Todoroki, right?" asked Izuku.
"Are you feeling nervous at all?" asked Iida.
"A bit," admitted Nami. "I already shoved how I can utilize my quirk a lot earlier today, but this will be different."
"He is probably going to do a big ice move like her did with Sero," said Izuku. "I'm not sure how I can advise you to avoid that."
"That's not what I'm worried about," denied Nami. "He's not going to use his left side, and I want a good fight." Izuku made a face looking away. "Midoriya...if I lose."
"That is a poor way of thinking," said Iida. "Very odd."
"I am not going to rule anything out," smiled Nami looking at him. "But if I can't get Shoto to bring him and lose, I want you to carry that torch, Midoriya." Izuku looked at her. "A small favor."
"Yeah," nodded Midoriya with a smile. They went their separate ways, Nami opened the door to find Bakugo in the waiting room.
"Gremlin," greeted Nami.
"Star Girl," greeted Bakugo looking at her. "How do you plan on beating Half and Half?"
" With a wish on star," said Nami leaning against the wall.
"Pathetic," grunted Bakugo. "Did that loser Deku have nothing to give you?"
"Shinso says I just have to keep him guessing for an advantage," said Nami. "Avoiding the first attack is the biggest priority right now."
"Whatever happens, just be ready for when I kill you," warned Bakugo. "Our treaty is over."
"You may just be eating your words," Nami smiled even more. Bakugo kept his eyes on her. "Hmp?"
"Are you stupid enough to battle in that?" asked Bakugo getting to his feet, Nami looked down at the cheer outfit.
"I don't see the problem," said Nami looking up. " I feel and look cute!" She struck a pose.
"Idiot," Bakugo said, clicking his tongue. "You are going to look like nothing but a fool."
"And cute!" repeated Nami striking a different pose, Bakugo shook his head.
Soon it was time for the Bakugos' match, Nami stood entrance to watch from ground level.
"The 9th battle of the first round of matches!" Present Mic cheered. "He was kind of a hotshot in middle school, and just look at that determined face! From the hero course, Katsuki Bakugo! Versus...The one I'm personally rooting for, also from Class 1-A, Ochaco Urakaka!" The crowd cheered, and everyone in Class 1-A was a bit nervous about how this match was going to go. "Let the ninth match...begin!"
"You're the one, that screws around with gravity. Right, Pink Cheeks?" Bakugo asked.
"Pink Cheeks?" Urakaka repeated.
"Well if you're gonna give up, do it now," Bakugo advised. " 'Cause I'm not going to hold anything back." Up in the stands; Class 1-A was nervous for Urakaka.
"Midoriya?" Iida asked. "I'm curious. What was that strategy you came up with that would give Urakaka an advantage against Bakugo?"
"Honestly, it wasn't really much of a plan," Izuku admitted as he looked at his notebook. "Kacchan's so strong. When it comes to close combat, he almost never has any openings. And the more he moves the more he sweats, which just makes his Quirk more powerful. He's gotten really good at using his explosions to move around in the air. But, if Urakaka is able to touch him, she can use her Quirk to make him float. She could send him out of bounds. That's why it's obvious what Urakaka needs to do to get the upper hand."
"Let the ninth match begin!" Present Mic shouted.
"Strike first!" Izuku exclaimed as Urakaka took off towards Bakugo.
"Giving up isn't an option for me!" Urakaka exclaimed.
"Wow, look at her go!" Ashido complimented.
"That's a good start," Izuku added. "And all she has to do is touch him one time."
"But it won't be easy," Iida said. "You know Bakugo's not gonna let her get too close to him."
"Which is why he won't dodge," Bakugo said. "He'll focus his energy on counterattacking."
"And now you die," Bakugo declared. Urakaka fell right for Bakugo, he blasted her.
"Urakaka!" Izuku and Iida exclaimed as Jiro whimpered.
"He blasted her," Mineta said.
"Ugh, looks like Bakugo's not planning on showing her any mercy," Tsu noted.
"Stupid," Urakaka said. "Saw it coming and I still couldn't get out of the way."
"You shoulda dropped outta the match," Bakugo said. She appeared out of the smoke. "There's no way you can beat me!" He let off another explosion. He gasped to see it was only her jacket. She appeared behind him.
"Whoa!" Present Mic exclaimed. "She flew her jacket over as a decoy! What incredible thinking!" Bakugo threw his hand back, the explosion pushed Urakaka back.
"Look at that reaction time!" Sero exclaimed.
"Seriously, the dude's insane," Kaminari said. "You can't get the drop on him. And since Urakaka can't use her Quirk unless she touches him, his lightning-flash reflexes put her at a huge disadvantage!"
"Too slow!" Bakugo shouted as he made his way through the smoke. He blasted Urakaka more, she stayed low to the ground.
"I've got you!" Urakaka shouted Bakugo blasted her again. Nami's vision kept getting blocked by the smoke from Bakugo's blasts.
"Is she okay?" Tsu asked.
"I can't watch this," Jiro cried hiding behind her hands. Bakugo continually blasted her.
"Like I always suspected," Mineta said. "Bakugo's a total sadist."
"This isn't over yet!" Urakaka shouted, followed by more explosions.
"Looks like she's not resting between attacks despite being exploded. The poor girl."
"Her feint earlier didn't work, so now she's getting desperate," a guy said.
"You idiots, look closer," Monoma advised.
"Hey, shouldn't one of the teachers step in?" a hero asked.
"Yeah, this is too rough," another hero said.
"This is shameful," a hero said after another explosion. "Listen, kid, you really wanna be a hero? Then stop acting like a bully. If you're so good just send her out of bounds." There was another explosion. "Stop toying with the girl and end this match!"
"Yeah, you heard the guy!" another shouted. A bunch of heroes started to boo Bakugo.
"The crowd is now booing Bakugo!" Present Mic commented. "And honestly, I kinda agree with what they're sayin--" He got cut off. "Hey, whoa--What the crap?"
"Where is the man who started this uproar?" Aizawa demanded into the mic. "Are you a pro?" Everyone went silent. "Because if you're being serious, you can go home and hang up your cape. I'd suggest looking into another career."
"You know what he's talking about?" Izuku asked.
"Bakugo's fierceness is an acknowledgment of his opponent's strength," Aizawa said. "He knows she deserves to have made it this far, so he's making sure he does whatever it takes to keep her at bay and come out on top."
"I think it's about time," Urakaka said. "Thank you, Bakugo...for keeping your eyes focused on me!" She put her hands up.
"What?" Bakugo asked.
"I don't blame Bakugo for not noticing, but it's embarrassing for a pro to boo and not realize what's going on from the stands," Monoma commented. "She kept low to the ground as she moved, which meant Bakugo's blasts tore up the floor of the ring, creating weapons for her. And then she kept him focused on her by attacking relentlessly, without rest. Rendering him oblivious." Urakaka let out a yell, putting her fingertips together.
"A meteor shower!" Present Mic exclaimed as rocks fell from the sky.
"Now you notice," Aizawa said.
"Hey, she had a plan all along!" Izuku exclaimed as he got to his feet. Urakaka started to run forward as Bakugo put one hand in the air, putting his other hand around his wrist for support. Just as Urakaka was about to touch him, Bakugo out a huge explosion, taking out of the pieces Urakaka had fallen towards him. Nami ducked behind the entrance; the shocked wave tore at her ankles a bit.
"I figured you'd have some sorta stupid plan to beat me," Bakugo said, Urakaka was on the ground. "You are friends with that damn nerd, after all."
"It took him one shot," Urakaka whimpered.
Present Mic gasped. "Bakugo bangs out a huge demonstration of power! He blasted apart Urakaka's finishing move and remains untouched!"
"That was close," Bakugo grunted, holding his wrist. Urakaka wobbly got to her feet.
"All right, then," Bakugo grunted. "Time for us to get serious! Urakaka!" He charged toward her, Urakaka turned around she ended up tripping on her own leg, which caused Bakugo to stop. Everyone could see that Urakaka had reached her limit.
"Urakaka is down!" Present Mic shouted. She trembling badly Bakugo was staring at her.
"It's too much," Iida said.
"She's way past her limit," Izuku added.
Urakaka started to weakly crawl towards Bakugo. "I can do this. I can still fight." Bakugo got ready, just in case. "I can!...I'll become a hero." She then passed out. Midnight held out her hand, as she checked on Urakaka. Bakugo went at ease.
"Urakaka is K.O.'d," Midnight reported. "Bakugo advances to the second round!" The crowd cheered. Soon Urakaka was placed on the gurney, "Take her to Recovery Girl." Everyone saw Bakugo leave the field.
Present Mic's voice came out gloomy. "I was really pullin' for her. Oh, yeah, I guess Bakugo's moving on."
"You're supposed to be unbiased, you know," Aizawa scolded him.
"Let's try to forget that depressing outcome," Present Mic encouraged.
"Or not," Aizawa said.
