Chapter 24: Caught
Christine
I was called up to the opera house, something I really didn't want to do.
I said farewell, for the day, to my Angel; and set off for the surface.
I did not reach my destination.
Somewhere along the route to the surface...I got lost, and ended up trapped in one of Erik's booby traps.
I have no idea how long I was trapped there, all that could be seen was darkness.
Eventually, my eyes adjusted, but I wasn't much better, I was still trapped, hungry, and a little scared.
Suppose I was never found? Suppose Erik thought I'd run away or went home with the blonde?
What if he didn't look for me? What if he didn't care?
The moments crept by. I had no idea what time it was, or how to get out of this infernal contraption. Stupid trap.
Eventually, sleep found me, sleep born from boredom.

Erik
It was six o'clock and Christine hadn't returned.
She was usually home by now, where was my Christine? Why had she not returned to me?
Where was she?
By seven, I knew something was amiss. Wether because she had run off with her little boy or something else had happened, I could not be sure.
Would she have left without telling me?
Would she?
I decided I would first look around my domain, before jumping to conclusions. Though all I wanted to do was jump to a conclusion and cry.
I called her name incessantly, turning around every corner I knew of.
I heard no reply for such a long time that I began to think that perhaps Christine had run away with her Vicomte.
It was some time later that I, in the most gloomy and depressed state of mind, came upon another hallway I had forgotten about. "Christine! Christine!" I called, turning onto the path.
There was a gasp, followed by a reply, "Erik!"
She hadn't left me!
I dashed to where I'd heard her voice, finding my songbird in one of my old traps.
Oh.
"Do you know how long I've been here?! I have been in this infernal contraption of your since I left for the surface! What time is it?" She demanded, swinging in the trap. "Seven thirty, perhaps." I said sheepishly.
" I have been here twelve and a half hours?!?!?! And you did not look for me until now?!" She went red with rage.
"I thought you were working late, I did not realize you were missing, did not speculate such until you did not come home at your usual time, I am sorry." I bowed my head.
"Well, can you get me down?"
"Of course, mon amour." I replied, and cut the tie on the trap, freeing my Christine.
She pushed the net off of her and stood up, facing me. "Truly, Erik, tell me why you did not immediately come looking for me, please?" She leaned in, fluttering her eyelashes.
"I thought perhaps you had taken off with the Vicomte and well...." I looked away, no longer able to look her in the eye. "Oh, Erik." She cooed, turning me to face her, "I'm not leaving you."
"How can you be sure? What if...." I trailed, unable to finish my sentence. What if you fall in love with someone and leave me?
"I promise I will not leave you, unless I am kidnapped or you force me to." She vowed solemnly, pressing a hand to her heart. Christine Daaé pulled me into a warm embrace. She nestled her head into the crook of my neck, her hair tickling my face.
Sweet Intoxication
