~Chapter One: Lost Inbetween~

Loud noises echoed through the house as Angela dragged her feet across the floor. She'd just gotten home from school and was very exhausted. Life had gotten the best of her today, and all she wanted was to escape from the pain.

So, dropping the backpack down at her feet, Angela groaned with exhaustion and plopped into bed. The voices in her head would not go away. She'd just had a difficult breakup with her boyfriend a few weeks ago and was not taking it very well.

They'd been high school sweethearts ever since freshman year. But after graduation, Charlie started acting differently around her, and Angela couldn't tell why. It wasn't until he finally confessed to seeing someone else.

That news broke Angela, and she often wondered if there was anything she could've done to stop Charlie from loving her. The answers were few and far between, but Angela was dealing with the worst of it, and she often wondered if she'd ever feel the same again.

Hot tears blurred her vision and poured down her cheeks. She was torn, a knife twisting in her heart as she sought to gather the pieces. But all that remained belonged to Charlie now, and she was sure she would never get her heart back.

The voices inside her head kept ringing loudly in her ears. They were screaming at her, carrying on a loud debate about whether she should take her life. Angela didn't want to die, but boy, this pain was way too much for her to bear, and all she wanted was to escape from it. Closing her eyes, Angela sobbed uncontrollably before plunging into an effortless sleep.

Beautiful colors burst into existence as bright stars danced around a nova. Inside the circle were beams of bright light as streaks of fire leaked from out of it. In the dream, Angela wore a white dress, its fabric silky like water and flowing around her body. Her hair hung down her back as her hazel eyes pierced the night with wonder. In the outer bounds of this world, she was free. She could no longer feel the pain, and the horrible thoughts of ending her life could no longer haunt her. She was simply alive, no longer chained to what used to be.

As Angela floated so close to the stars, a man dressed in a shirt and jeans appeared in front of her, gliding in the atmosphere with a body that wasn't his. Angela was starstruck by him, and it didn't help that the man looked just like Charlie. He had green eyes, his hair a curtain of dirty blonde, as his ghostly appearance resembled strength and beauty. Gazing into his emerald eyes, Angela slowly stretched out her hand to touch him.

She was surprised to find her hand didn't go through. Instead, it only rested on his chest as he looked into her eyes with longing. They barely exchanged any words with each other before they started kissing; falling, falling into the abyss where darkness and light met them with praise. Galaxies exploded behind them as a gravitational force pulled them together. At that very moment, Angela looked into the man's eyes with desperation as he fondled her closely.

The pain that Angela tried to escape seeped its way through her dreams again. It was like an active force that was crushing her body, and the ghost did not know what to do about it. So desperate for a way out, Angela took his hand and placed it on her chest. She was ready to give him control. Ready to show him the darkest parts of her so that he might heal her. As if guiding the ghost through a field of lost souls, Angela spoke to him kindly before a stream of colorful light emitted from her body.

The ghost clutched her shoulders tight with fear as he threw his head back and screamed in agony. The give and exchange were more than Angela could bear, so she too screamed out in pain until it was finally over. Once the light was finally gone, the man fell to his knees and slowly faded away. Angela tried to keep him there for as long as she could, but by the time she finally woke up, he was gone; only a distant memory of what used to be...

The sun radiated upon Angela's face as she lay in bed, drenched with sweat. Even though the dream she had was weird and confusing, she was distraught because the dreamworld was a wonderful place to get lost, and she hardly felt anything there. Depressed and defeated, Angela crawled out of bed and stood beside her desk, overflowing with homework. The goal was to get a head start on it, but as soon as she sat down, she heard a soft knock reverberating on the other end of her door.
