Chapter 13
Hiccup's P.O.V.
"Give it to her," Sage's voice sounded in my ear as I stared at the bracelet in my hand. I'd made it from the sapphires I got from Johann the day the Hooligans crashed. I made it during their stay and was going to give it to Tawny on her birthday, but they took her before I could. I'd also made one for Avechi from the emeralds.
"But it was for Tawny," I told the voice.
"She is Tawny, Hiccup."
"Bet she said her name was Plasma..." I said in confusion.
"Please tell me you aren't the man I married," her voice sighed as I sensed her sit next to me, "They changed her name, idiot."
"Why would they do that if she doesn't even remember her name?" I asked before pausing. "...Because they expected us to come after her once we tracked them down, so they changed it so when we called her by her name she'd be confused and think we're talking about someone else!"
"Finally!" she sighed. I leaned forward and grabbed my head. My daughter's been back for two days and I didn't realize it. What kind of father am I? I held back the tears of shame and stood up as I heard her say my name. I stared at Tawny and she stared back, her gaze nervous as she prepared to run. She didn't recognize me, but then again...why would she? She was still a babe when they took her.
"Good morning, Plasma," I said with a nod.
"A-Are you okay?" she asked.
"Yes, I'm fine," I lied, "Why do you ask?"
"Well...you seemed like you were upset."
"I was just...thinking about my daughter," I said. She squared her shoulders and lowered her gaze timidly.
"Oh..." her voice was barely above a whisper. Does she know? I asked myself.
"No, she doesn't," Sage said.
Well I can't give her the bracelet, she won't understand why.
"Make a reason." I swallowed before nodding Tawny to sit with me as I lowered myself to the rock. She slowly came to my side and sat next to me, her body stiff.
"So, why did you leave Berk?" I asked.
"Um...a reasonable reason and two stupid reasons," she said quietly.
"Such as...?" I asked.
"I felt something pulling me east, I didn't want to kill the dragon at the end of the week, and Stoick was abusive," she said.
"Sounds like three reasonable reasons," I said. She glanced at me from the corner of her eye. "Did anyone on Berk know about Stoick?"
She nodded. "They all knew, none of them did anything," she said.
"What about the pull? Did you tell anyone?" I asked.
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because I didn't even know what was pulling me. And if I did, they would have just said I was crazy," she said.
"And you didn't want to kill a dragon, huh?"
She shook her head. "I never believed they were how the Book of Dragons portrayed."
"Now that you're here, and see a bunch, do you feel a need to kill them?" I asked.
"Well...at first I did, but I didn't have a weapon. But then this morning, I woke up with a Terror curled up next to me and...I guess I'm starting to see them slightly different? I mean, I guess the smaller dragons can be less threatening than the larger ones..." she said in slight confusion. I nodded before a pause came. "Are-are you...the dragon master...?" she asked, her voice coated in sudden fear, though she tried to contain it.
"I am," I say with a nod. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, you're the chief of a village of dragon riders, and the dragons seem to respect you...I've heard the dragon master controls them all," she said, "Is that true?"
"I don't control them. I simply talk to and respect them, and they respect me in return," I say.
"Oh. So, you didn't kill an alpha to gain control?" she asked.
"Well, yes, I did, but it wasn't to gain control. See, when I was a boy, dragons would raid my old village at least once a week. Once I met Toothless, I killed the dragon that made the others attack. That's how I lost my leg. And then, I started a village and the dragons stuck around," I explain. She looked at me, seeming to be debating a question. "What?" I asked.
"...H-Have you ever...killed a woman who had a daughter?" she asked.
"No. The only time I'd kill a human is if they brought a battle where a battle didn't belong."
"Stoick said you tried to kill him," she said.
"Stoick would say anything to get you to think the wrong stuff about me," I told her.
"What?"
"Stoick hates me. Has since the day he found out who I was," I said, "And anyone who doesn't agree with him gets thrown off his ship. Just ask Astrid."
"He also told me you killed my mother..." I froze as I heard her say that.
Help me out, Sage!
"Tell her the truth."
I took a deep breath before swallowing. "I didn't kill your mother, Plasma," I said slowly, "I knew her...and she died in a flying accident."
"How do you know you knew her? And what do you mean a flying accident?" she asked.
"She was my wife...and she took an arrow to her gut in a battle," I told her quietly before she went rigid, her eyes widening as her breathing became heavy.
"No..." she said slowly before I looked at her. She was shaking her head quickly as she stared at me. "N-No, my father might have been a despicable man, abandoning me and killing my mother, but there's no way he's the dragon master," she said desperately.
"Why not?" I asked.
"There's no possible way I'm related to..." she trailed off before her eyes clouded over, as if remembering something. She blinked before they cleared and she looked at me.
Plasma's P.O.V.
Pictures and images were flashing across my brain, almost like memories. I saw a fight between a young teenage boy and girl. I saw a woman with red hair and pale blue eyes. A girl with red hair and green eyes speaking to me with a beam on her lips. Villagers holding me and doing nothing but smiling around me. Then I saw Chief Hiccup. He was hugging me tightly as he sobbed silently. Another image came and showed him and the red haired girl playing with me on a living room floor. Another showed me watching them train together, and the look of pride on his face, when he saw me trying to lift an ax, was one I'd never seen from anyone on Berk. A bright light flashes before Stoick appeared, towering over my young, toddler body. I was screaming for my father as I cowered in a corner. He put a dart in my neck before putting me in a basket as I passed out. I then watched my painful childhood on Berk before my vision came back.
"Ch-chief Hiccup?" I stuttered.
"Yes?"
"I-If you're my father...tell me something a stranger wouldn't know," I said.
"You used to call Stoick the Jerk-wad with Legs," he said before I froze. I called him that before he found out and started hitting me with the whip.
"How did you...?"
"Like I said. You're my daughter, and Berk crashed here 15 years ago," he said.
"Is there an Avechi on the island?" I asked.
"She's your sister, yes," he said with a nod.
"May I speak with her, please?" I asked.
