Chapter 11

Hiccup's P.O.V.

"Chief!" I looked up to see Thunder running toward me. "Boat from Berk! West beach!" he panted as he reached me.

"Another attack?! Are you kidding me, Thor?!" I shout, punching the table. First they take my youngest daughter and now they can't get enough!

"No. It's just one. A puny little thing, barely big enough for one," he corrects and I pause. Who would be coming here from Berk solo?

"I'll check it out," I say, suddenly feeling something pulling me west. I leave the Great Hall and mount Toothless before he shoots for the beach. We land and see a small boat stuck in the shallows. I dismount and step around the debris from last night's storm. When I get to the water's edge, there's no movement from the boat. I lit Inferno before getting ready for attack.

"Whoever is aboard, I command you to exit the ship slowly and calmly," I called to be met by silence. "Hello?" I called. Once again, no one answered. "You have three seconds before you will be retrieved by force!" I snap. "1... 2... 3!" I shoot into the shallows and pull the boat onto the sand before looking inside.

I froze. There was a teenage girl, passed out on the floor. She looked to be about 18 years and was far from the best condition. Her brown hair was unkempt and knotted, her skin pink with sun and her clothes were baggy on her skinny frame. I climbed into the boat and knelt next to her before gently moving her head to inspect her face. At my touch, her eyes opened the slightest bit, but I couldn't tell their color and I don't think she could see me before they closed again.

"Hey, can you hear me?" I asked gently, not wanting to frighten her if she could. I know she was from Berk, but she looked so helpless. I hated fighting weak beings in need of help. Besides, she was way younger than me; didn't partake in tormenting me, shouldn't be punished for her parents mistakes. When she didn't reply, Toothless poked his head over the edge of the boat and handed me a bucket of water.

"Thanks, bud," I said as I took it from him. I dip my hand in the liquid before gently pressing it to the girls cheek. She was hot with fever and her lips were crusted and dehydrated. Once I've done my best to cool her down, I pick her up bridal-style and get on Toothless' back. "Take us back, Toothless," I order before he flies back to the village.

Plasma's P.O.V.

I woke up to be greeted by a burning face. I groaned as I opened my eyes and sat up. My boat had disappeared, replaced with a hut ceiling over my head. There was a woman to my left, mixing something in a bowl. She turned around and almost jumped when she saw me.

"Oh, good! You're awake!" she cheered as she walked toward me. I tried to move away but a wall blocked my path. "Oh, no need to be scared, darling," she said, pausing a few paces away, "It'll sting for a moment but it will help your sunburn." She seemed nice enough...but then again, so did Stoick.

"H-who are you?" I ask, my voice weak and raspy from lack of use and water.

"Shayla, the village healer," she says with a smile before sitting next to me and applying a paste to the burn patches on my hands, wrists, neck, and face. "It's good that you're up," she says as she finishes.

"Why?" I ask.

"Chief's been constantly checking on you. He wants to speak to you when you're strong enough," she says, walking to a chest in the corner. I screamed as a Night Fury poked its head through the door of the hut. Shayla jumped between the dragon and me. "It's okay! It's okay! He's the chief's dragon; he's not going to hurt you!" she says quickly as I tried to back into the wall. When I didn't calm down, she rushed forward and put her arms around me before waving the dragon away as I buried myself in her chest. The dragon crooned before leaving. "No doubt he's on his way to tell Chief you're awake. I swear those two are inseparable," Shayla sighed, rubbing my shoulder.

"Shayla! How is she?!" an excited voice asked, growing closer with each word.

"Not ready!" she snapped as she shot for the door. I heard her yelling at the man before their voices faded. I guessed that was their Chief. It shocked me she wasn't scared to talk to him like that. Back on Berk, if I was caught even glaring at Stoick, I'd earn a whipping. I froze as the Night Fury slunk back through the door. It pranced up to me with wide eyes and what looked like a smile. He started sniffing me before Shayla came back in.

"Toothless! Get out of here, right now!" she snapped and he seemed to mock her as he left the hut. "Oh, I am so sorry. Here you are, in critical condition, and no one's even letting you get a moment's peace," she says, walking back to me with a fish that was cooked to a crisp.

"Where am I?" I ask as she hands me the food.

"You're on Isle of Fire. We are the Flame tribe. Where are you from?" she asks.

"Um...n-nowhere," I stutter. If they knew where I came from, they might send me back. After I ate the fish, Shayla left for a moment before coming back with a tall man following her. When I saw him, I felt a tug in my chest, so strong I almost followed it. Something flashed in his green eyes, and told me he felt it too.

"How are you feeling?" he asked, walking toward me.

"Sunburned," I reply with a shrug.

"My name's Hiccup, Chief of the Flames," he says, extending his hand. I shake it before the pull seems to disappear. "Uh, what--what's your name?" he asks as he pulls up a chair and sits down. My mind froze. They might know me if I tell them my real name. I've never heard of them, though, so it might be vise-versa. Screw it.

"Plasma," I say and Shayla paused before her eyes widened and she gasped. Hiccup turned his head to look at her.

"You okay, Shayla?" he asked. She froze, looking from him to me and back again before nodding.

"Yes, Chief... uh... I just remembered there's something I have to tell Heather," she said before rushing out the door, leaving me stiff with the chief, who for all I know could be a ruthless murderer. The man suddenly spun back around to face me, making me jolt at the sudden movement.

"Are you from Berk?" he seemed to growl the name from the pit of his stomach, forcing it through his teeth. He must have seen my sail.

"Please don't send me back!" I begged, "I've never heard of the 'fire' tribe. I didn't know you were enemies with Berk, I didn't know I was sailing into your waters! I was just trying to get away from them! I felt like a prisoner on my own island! I'm so so sorry, please let me go!" I cried as I pushed my back into the wall, tears streaming down my face.

"Plasma, Plasma, shh. Calm down," the man said as he wrapped his arms around me comfortingly. "We're not going to send you back, or hurt you," he said softly, stroking my hair. "Why don't you get some rest," he says when I'm calmed down, "We'll talk more in the morning." It was only now that I noticed the setting sunlight streaming through the window.
