chapter two

Here is another chapter of Cassandra's childhood! Hopefully it answers some questions from last chapter...

Also, I am sorry for neglecting this story! I have just been inspired and distracted by other things, I didn't mean for this story to go literally a month without an update.

Also also, sorry it is so short, I just wanted to update for y'all.

Cassandra realized quickly that she loved learning but hated school. She soon found out why her teacher lied to her on her first day, within a week of being at the school she was already a target for bullying due to her lack of social and vocal skills. Not even her status as a Wayne helped alleviate the bullying.

If anything, it made it worse.

It wasn't like her or Tim could just easily explain why Cassandra was so quiet so they just kept saying she was just shy, which only egged the bullies on more.

They never struck when Tim or Jason were around, only when Cassandra was by herself, which, thankfully, was not very often. But Cassandra was very perceptive. She reads body language as easily as Jason reads Jane Austen. She knows when she is being talked about and in what manner they are talking about her in.

She may be quiet, but she isn't stupid.

Cassandra just wanted to go about her days at school, learn as much as she could, and then head home to the manor where Alfred and Barbara Gordon, a family friend, were tutoring her.

Those tutoring lessons were the highlights of Cassandra's days. She loved Barbara, she was like an older sister to her. She would forever be grateful to her for taking the time out of her days to come and tutor her in speech and reading.

It was also an added bonus that Barbara was Batgirl, too.

Cassandra loved to hear about the stories that Dick and Bruce wouldn't tell her from Barbara about their nights fighting crime. She hoped one day she would get to join her brother and adoptive father in the field but Bruce seems pretty adamant about keeping her away from the vigilante scene.

She knew Jason and Tim were itching to get out there too, she also knew that when Dick was injured too badly to go out on patrol sometimes Jason would sub in for him. This has only happened twice and since then, Jason has been begging Bruce to let him back on patrol.

Cassandra was daydreaming about plans to get her and her brothers out on patrol when said brothers walked into the library where she was waiting for Barbara to arrive. She sat up, eyeing them to get a read on their moods.

Tim exuded an aura of calm confidence, relaxed in whatever they came to talk about with Cassandra.

Jason was more fidgety, giving an air of slight anxiety.

Cassandra raised an eyebrow at her brothers, signaling for them to talk. Tim took the hint. "Cass, Jason and I have been talking..." She nodded. "We want to go on patrol with Bruce and Dick and we know you do too. But they, mainly Bruce, won't let us. They main reason for Jason and myself being that we aren't trained well enough, physically speaking. We were wondering if...if you would train us."

Cass's eyes widened slightly in shock. "Train...you?"

"Yeah! Teach us how to fight like you! Please?" Jason clasped his hands together in a begging position. "Only if you want to, though."

Cass thought about it, looking between her two brothers. "Will train."

"Sweet!" Tim and Jason hollered, high fiving each other. Cass lifted her hand in a pausing motion. Jason looked over at Tim cautiously. "I sense a 'but' coming."

"You...train me. As well." Cassandra steeled her brothers with a confident look as they stared back with puzzled expressions.

"Us? Training you? What could we possibly teach you?" Tim questioned.

"Detective."

"Ah, gotcha. You train us to be fighters and we train you to be a detective. Sounds fair." Jason and Tim nodded in agreement. "So, when do we begin?"

Cassandra thought about it. "Tonight. Outside." She stuck her hand out. "Deal?"

"Deal."

As Tim and Jason were leaving the library Barbara came walking in with a bag slung over her shoulder. She glanced at the two boys before looking at Cass. "Whenever those two are getting along, that means nothing but trouble. They weren't bothering you, were they?"

Cassandra shook her head. "No." She looked at the bag on Barbara's shoulder. "Lesson?"

Barbara smiled. "Yep. You've come a far way since we started these lessons a few months ago. I mean, you are talking a lot more consistently, albeit choppily, but the language is there. Now, do you want to work on reading or speaking today?"

"Reading. Please." Cassandra sat down next to Barbara as she pulled out the work book.

"I see Alfred's lessons in manners are rubbing off on you." Barbara snickered. "Well, let's see what you remember. Turn to page four, three paragraphs down. Read that please." Cassandra took a deep breath, turning to the correct page. She started to read it, pausing when Barbara cleared her throat. "Out loud, Cass."

Cass nodded, clearing her own throat before starting over, her attention divided between her reading and the deal she struck with her brothers just moments before.

She couldn't wait for the night to come and her journey to becoming a vigilante to begin.
