Chapter 7
The precinct cheered loudly, pulling party poppers and throwing confetti into the air. A large banner saying "Welcome back Hyunjoon & Haknyeon" hung up high as officers group hugged them and patted their backs.
"We honestly thought you guys were goners..." an officer said with tears in their eyes.
"Rumor says you two have amnesia. Is that true?" another asked with curious eyes.
Haknyeon's suppressed instincts kicked in and quickly got the crowd to fan out while shielding Hyunjoon behind him. Everyone looked on in confusion. Did they suddenly remember everything?
"Why are you looking at us like that...? Did we do something weird?" asked Haknyeon, returning to his "normal" self.
"It's just... You say you have amnesia, but what you just did was something the real you does..." an officer commented.
Most nodded in agreement. The duo exchanged looks before shrugging. They put the matter aside and started up the party again. Haknyeon walked off to the side with Hyunjoon, a heavy concern on his mind.
"Should we really be celebrating? Our pursuers are still out there selling drugs and wanting our heads on a platter." Haknyeon whispered, making sure the others didn't overhear. "I'm appreciative of all of this, but I can't rest, knowing I might die at any given moment."
"I hear you. I feel the same way... I only mentioned we should just all get together and shout welcome back when you entered. They went overboard..." Hyunjoon whispered back, letting out a tired sigh. "What should we do now? We still have no memories and we obviously can't take them on our own. According to an officer I've been hanging with, we're the only ones who know anything about this case. And Kevin Moon."
"There's that name again. Can you tell me anything about him?" asked Haknyeon, needing answers.
"The officer said you two were close. His skills rivaled yours too. But he was let go because he killed two innocent people. Officers aren't allowed to talk about him." explained Hyunjoon before a light bulb went off. "Why don't we try and gather a few more memories before going to find Kevin? We do have where he's located. Somewhat."
Haknyeon nodded in agreement. They quietly slipped through the partying officers and started to look around the precinct together. They checked their desks, bits and pieces of irrelevant memories slowly entering their minds with each item they touched. Haknyeon spotted something sticking out of a drawer in the office. He opened it then held the cloth in his hands.
"What is this...? A handkerchief?" he mumbled, fingering the cloth.
A sharp pain shot through this brain, causing him to curl into himself. He continuously massaged his temples as a memory entered his mind.

"This is officer Heo, the suspect has taken off on foot. We suspect he's heading for the meeting point. Be on standby."
"Pick up your pace, Joon."
"I can only move so fast in these! And aren't you the one who suggested the idea!?"
Silence. Something Hyunjoon had gotten used to when Haknyeon chose not to voice his thoughts.
"We'll split and try to cut him off. You go right."
"On it!"
Haknyeon ran towards the left, knowing it was possible to catch the suspect before they reached the others. His plan had to work. He spotted the suspect as they ran past him. He quickly followed then raised an eyebrow as the suspect suddenly stopped.
"I give."
"I'm sorry, what?"
The suspect dropped everything they had and put their hands up. Haknyeon slowly had them approach him, keeping his gun pointed at their head. His radio crackled to life.
"Hak! Can you hear me? Hak!"
"So you're turning yourself in? A wise choice."
Haknyeon ignored Hyunjoon's voice coming from the radio, having entered his zone.
"Don't let them approach you! They've got-"
The suspect stood before Haknyeon before smiling evilly. Haknyeon had noticed too late and soon felt a searing pain in his arm holding the gun that now fell from his hand. Haknyeon scrambled to pick up his gun and just barely managed to shoot the suspect in the back of their thigh, leaving them bleeding and limping away.
"Hak! Oh god..."
"Don't worry about me, go catch them!"
Hyunjoon ignored him as he took out his handkerchief and started to wrap it around his bleeding arm.
"It's not much but it should do for now."
"You idiot, we could've caught them by now had you kept going."
"Come in, come in. This is officer Heo. Suspect has been injured and is on the way to the meeting spot. We are unable to continue pursuit as officer Ju is in no condition to do his duties."
"What!? I'm perfectly fine!"
Hyunjoon ignored him once again, walking Haknyeon back to the police car. Haknyeon finally gave up protesting then silently lied back on the seats with a pleased smile having creeped its way onto his face.

Haknyeon sat up, the pain having subsided. He looked at the green handkerchief then out the office at Hyunjoon who quietly looked through papers. Hyunjoon prioritized his well-being over catching a criminal. It was stupid but heartwarming. He put the handkerchief back, assuming it had been put there to be hidden but close by to remember.
"Did you remember anything?" Hyunjoon asked, spooking Haknyeon.
Haknyeon's eyes darted around, trying to come up with an answer. Was it wise to tell the truth? He could always omit things. He soon started to tell Hyunjoon all about the memory, deciding to be truthful as they were in this together. Haknyeon finished and looked at a Hyunjoon expectantly.
"Wow, I wonder how close we actually were. Not all partners would do something like that..." muttered Hyunjoon, clearly remembering the small writing on the back.
"So how about you? Did you remember anything?" Haknyeon asked, leaning forward against his desk.
"I found a ticket and..." said Hyunjoon before trailing off. Was it wise to mention it seeing as Haknyeon only briefly appeared? "Um, did I say ticket? I meant receipt. We went out to eat lunch together often."
"Oh. Well, anything memory is a good memory. For now anyway." said Haknyeon before rising from his seat. "Let's go find Kevin. Though, it would help if we got our licenses and other things back first..."
Hyunjoon nodded in agreement as he followed Haknyeon out. They lied to the other officers to ensure they wouldn't be tracked, seeing how everyone held a bias against Kevin.

Haknyeon opened the door to his apartment, having found the spare key Taesob left in someone else's potted plant. Hyunjoon looked around, bits and pieces of his apartment becoming familiar.
"I didn't get a chance to explore my room and why it was the only spot in the apartment destroyed." explained Haknyeon, making a beeline for his bedroom.
Hyunjoon started to look around, searching for bugs or anything that seemed out of the ordinary. Haknyeon entered his room then started to pick things up. Papers and objects littered the floor. He picked up some papers, expecting something important. They weren't. They were simply about protocols and food recipes. Was he really into cooking? He looked to his left and picked up a picture frame with a crack in it.
"That's us... but who's this...?" Haknyeon whispered, staring at the dark haired man grinning cheek to cheek with his arms around them.
He continued to stare, hoping any fragment of a memory would appear. Nothing. He sighed heavily then put it back atop his dresser. Haknyeon continued to clean up his room while Hyunjoon finished his search for suspicious items. He poked his head into Haknyeon's room and saw him cleaning up.
"Hey, let me help." he said, walking over and helping pick up things.
Hyunjoon paused as he held a small snow globe. He turned it around before looking at the bottom.
"Hey, is everything okay!?" Haknyeon said in a worried tone as he held Hyunjoon against him. "Joon...?"
Haknyeon shook him, pinched his cheeks, just about anything that could wake a person. Nothing happened. Why wasn't he waking up? He held Hyunjoon close, a few tears escaping his eyes.

...
....
"Where am I? What's all this?" Hyunjoon whispered, his voice echoing slightly.
His eyes landed on the scene that suddenly came from nowhere. It was himself. Nothing of interest was going on. It was just him working at his desk at the precinct. It was on his desk he spotted the snow globe he had picked up in Haknyeon's room.
"Why do I have it...? Was it mine originally...?" Hyunjoon asked, knowing no one would answer him.
He silently watched as a woman stopped by his desk. He followed her into a room. Haknyeon's office. Haknyeon surprisingly wasn't there. The scene faded out before revealing himself standing by Haknyeon's apartment. He looked tired. He eventually sat down by his door, cradling the small snow globe in his hands. The door opened, sending him tumbling back. He was staring up at a disgruntled Haknyeon. The one he was seeing was completely different from the one he knew.
He watched himself flinch and slightly curl into himself as he assumed Haknyeon was yelling at him before hitting him with the door. He expected that he'd go home after that. He did leave. But he did come back. To his surprise, Haknyeon opened the door. Something was said by him before he shoved the snow globe into his hands. The scene faded out as he took his leave.
"So I gave it to him... But why? Judging from how he looked, he didn't seem like the kind of person who was fond of snow globes..." muttered Hyunjoon as he floated in nothingness.
.
..
...
....
Hyunjoon groaned before opening one eye before the other. The room was completely dark. He moved his body some and confirmed he was sleeping on a bed. He sat up and looked to his sides. There slept Haknyeon with the most peaceful look he's ever seen. Hyunjoon lied back down, afraid he'd move too much and wake him up.
He stared up at the ceiling, trying to think of reasons as to why he'd give Haknyeon a snow globe, especially after how mad he looked. Not to mention why he was sent to Haknyeon's in the first place. He felt he had gained more questions than answers from the new memory. He glanced over at Haknyeon before closing his eyes. He'd discuss it all with Haknyeon in the morning.
