Chapter 4

Haknyeon found himself waking up inside their metal prison. The truck wasn't moving. He looked around and saw Jooyoung was missing. His eyes frantically searched for Hyunjoon who snored not too far from him. He quietly got up and headed for the doors. Haknyeon poked his head out, trying to see where they were. It looked like some open parking lot for trucks. He climbed out of the back and made his way to the front. Hosong and Arisa weren't there either. It was strange to him.

They couldn't have been kidnapped. They were the targets so why would they take the others? They couldn't have stopped for refreshments or restrooms as neither could be seen around. Another thought came to mind. They were purposefully left behind. He hurried back in and shook Hyunjoon awake, needing him to be on the same page.

"Who, what, where's the fire?" Hyunjoon said in a panic as he sat up.

"There's no fire but there's certainly trouble. They left us. Jooyoung, Hosong and Arisa. We gotta get out of here." said Haknyeon, feeling there could be danger lurking around.

"Why would Arisa leave us? She's a cop for heaven's sake." fussed Hyunjoon as he climbed out with Haknyeon.

"I don't know but I'm certainly not going to stay and find out." said Haknyeon looking around the area as they walked. "Are we even in Seoul...?"

Hyunjoon felt around for a phone out of habit and realized he never had one on him. It was most likely taken by the people pursuing them. They searched around for a place that was open, hoping to ask a local of their whereabouts. A rundown store with flicking lights came into view and a person soon walked out of it.

"Do you...?" Haknyeon asked, his nervousness visible through his shaking body.

Hyunjoon shook his head before walking in the opposite direction. It was the only place open as far as they had seen. Others were either closed or abandoned.

"Hey! You pretty boys!" a voice shouted from behind them. "What business you got 'round this neighborhood?"

They exchanged looks, knowing they'd be in trouble whether they answered or not. They slowly turned around and saw an older man standing not too far from them. His look was slightly rugged and his face seemed younger than he appeared. The man took a drag of his cigarette before approaching them. Haknyeon stood on alert, sensing this man meant business. He stood in front of Hyunjoon, his repressed instincts kicking in.

"I asked you both a question and I expect an answer. Are you deaf or mute?" he asked, pointing his cigarette dangerously close to Haknyeon's face.

"We just wanted to find someone and ask where we are." Haknyeon responded, his tone of voice lower than usual. "We don't want to be here anymore than you want us here."

"You don't know where you are? Haven't you heard the phrase before? 'Death awaits in Hyokakk'. That's where you are, buddy." he replied, blowing smoke in their faces. "Though you ought to be grateful not to be police. We don't treat'em kindly here."

"One question... What province are we in...?" Haknyeon asked.

"Are you stupid or something? Seoul. I advise you both get the hell on out of here otherwise..." he said, looking around. "...the others'll get you."

"You wouldn't happen to have a map...?" Hyunjoon asked from behind Haknyeon.

The man threw his hands in the air before walking away. They hung back, seeing it as a sign that he didn't want to be bothered with them any longer. They walked away as well, silently trying to figure out their next moves. The sound of a vehicle was heard from behind, causing them to move far over. The motorcyclist passed by, leaving something behind. Hyunjoon went to inspect it then eagerly picked it up.

"It's their phone." Hyunjoon muttered, showing Haknyeon. "Think they noticed it fell out?"

"Not sure... but we should definitely call the last person they talked to. Hopefully it's a friend or family..." replied Haknyeon, watching Hyunjoon work the phone.

Haknyeon gasped as Hyunjoon somehow figured out the password to the phone. They exchanged looks before going through contacts. They picked the friendliest contact name and waited for a response.

"The hell you calling me for?" a gruff voice asked, clearly annoyed.

"Uh, hi. The owner of this phone lost this and we were hoping that you could come get it from us?" Hyunjoon replied, seeing Haknyeon was spooked.

"Fucking idiot. Can't even hold onto his phone yet the boss trusts him more than me..." the man grumbled before giving them a place to meet him at and hanging up.

"Boss? Is he a gang member? Do gangs still exist?" Haknyeon asked, inputting the address into the app the man had installed.

"Who knows. Guess we'll find out when we get there." Hyunjoon responded as they followed the directions on the phone.

They stood outside the building, looking around at the pedestrians and vehicles passing by. They were in Seoul. Once they returned the phone, the next step was finding his apartment. He could only hope it was still in good shape considering the people who were chasing them wanted them both dead. He looked over his note again, wondering if he should input it in the app to see how far their trip was. Just as he was about to, a man passed by them as if searching for something.

"Excuse me?" Haknyeon called out.

The man looked at them then went as pale as a ghost. They gave him a weird look before his expression changed rapidly.

"Sorry if I scared you. You both just looked familiar. So, you have my buddy's phone?" he asked, extending his hand.

"Yeah... here..." muttered Hyunjoon, slowly placing it in his hand.

The man left without another word, often looking back at them. They soon walked away, wondering what that was all about.

"How about we ask someone to take us to the nearest precinct? Someone's got to know us there." said Haknyeon, seeing no point in heading to his apartment without some sort of guide.

"Right. But would anyone be willing...? They all seem so busy..." responded Hyunjoon, looking at the people passing them by.

They decided to go into a store in hopes that a clerk could point them in the right direction.

"Yeah, I just saw them. Just went into a clothing store. Right. Got it." said the man, secretly tailing the duo.

"Was it a left or a right?" Haknyeon asked, looking down at the notes.

"When in doubt, go right." said Hyunjoon with a shrug.

"Then left it is." said Haknyeon, making a left.

Hyunjoon pulled him back just as a car whizzed past while honking. Haknyeon gave him a sheepish smile while he shook his head disapprovingly. The light changed and they were soon on their way, unsuspecting of anything. They happily discussed things that they'd find out once they got to the precinct just as a car slowly drove into the sidewalk.

"Hey, there's a car on the sidewalk..." Haknyeon muttered, having turned back at the sound of something ungodly behind them.

They stepped off to the side before deciding to head into a nearby store. The car came into sight, sitting right outside the entrance. Minutes passed yet the car hadn't moved.

"Why is it just sitting there...?" Haknyeon whispered.

"What makes you think I know?" Hyunjoon whispered back.

It was then the car rammed into the entrance, causing the building to shake and pieces of it to fall. They looked back at the people still inside. The car backed up and rammed into the entrance again, breaking the door in the process.

"Everyone, why are you just standing there? Run! There's a back exit right?" Hyunjoon shouted.

Everyone started to follow the store clerk who led the way. The car soon burst through, causing more of the entrance to fall apart. Everyone hurriedly filed out of the back, watching the building shake before stopping altogether. Hyunjoon and Haknyeon went up front to see what was going on. The car wasn't there anymore.

"The hell? We should've gotten the license plate number..." Hyunjoon grumbled, looking down the block both ways.

"Well, we can tell where it went from the debris and damage to other cars." said Haknyeon, kneeling down to get a better look. "I bet it was those people who have it out for us. Next time, let's try not endanger others."

Hyunjoon nodded in agreement. It was then he realized they could ask the others for directions to the precinct. He hurried back, briefly explaining to Haknyeon. Haknyeon continued to inspect the ground, trying to get a sense of which direction the car headed in. He soon found his face meeting the pavement as a heavy blow was landed on the back of his head. He felt his body being dragged as he fought hard to remain conscious but ultimately failing.

Haknyeon came to and found himself lying on his side. He moved around and found his wrists cuffed to his ankles along with a gag over his mouth. It didn't take a genius to figure out what had happened. His more pressing matter was escaping and finding a safe place to hide out. He tried sitting up then hit his head against something hard. Judging from how little room he had to move, he figured he was inside something like a box or suitcase.

Time passed and Haknyeon found himself wanting to learn more of his surroundings outside his tiny prison. He couldn't hear any voices, which could mean he was hidden away or in an abandoned place. There wasn't much to smell either, giving him very little to go off of. He started to roll around and confirmed he wasn't in a box or something of similar stature as he didn't feel himself move anywhere.

"A car's trunk huh... Guess I should get started on trying to get out of these..." mumbled Haknyeon.

He tried his best to free himself but to no avail. He soon heard faint voices. He pretended to sleep as they got closer. The trunk opened.

"You weren't joking..." one said.

"We need to get rid of him first. He's too smart and knows too much. We can get rid of his buddy after." another said, picking up Haknyeon.

Haknyeon kept his eyes shut as they walked off with him. Where were they taking him? What were they going to do? After a bit, he felt his body being tossed onto the ground. It was silent for a bit. A familiar sound rang in his ears. He knew what was going to happen. They were going to shoot him to death. He finally opened his eyes.

"Just great, he's awake. Would've been easier had you stayed asleep." he said, pointing the barrel of the gun at his head.

An idea came to mind, now that he didn't have to pretend to be asleep. He rolled just as the man fired a shot.

"Hey, stay still!" he shouted.

Haknyeon continued to roll around, just barely dodging the bullets.

"Hey, go keep him still." the man ordered to his friend.

Haknyeon rolled away as much as he could until he was caught. The man walked over, inserting more bullets in the process.

"Say your prayers." he said with a smirk.

He was in another perilous situation. What could he do? He racked his brain and came up with one final idea. He only had one chance and if he messed it up, it would be the end for him.

"Hey, calm down..." an officer said.

"Calm down? Calm down!? How can I when Haknyeon is all alone out there!" Hyunjoon shouted, his emotions on the rise.

"We'll find him. Haknyeon isn't that easy to kill, you know. You of all people should know that." said the officer.

They quietly left the room and closed the door, having calmed Hyunjoon down some. They walked over to another officer with a tired look.

"We don't know who could've taken him..." she said with a sigh. "The only ones could've been what they were investigating."

"But no one but them knows any of the details of their case..." said the first officer.

"No... There's someone else, but his name is taboo amongst the police." she said, rubbing her temples.

"Who is it and why is his name taboo?" the officer asked.

"I'll tell you later on why, but his name..." she said in a low voice.

"Is...?" he asked.

"Kevin Moon."
