Chapter 1

Haknyeon rubbed his eyes then let out a small sneeze. He fully opened his eyes and shivered slightly. His clothes were pretty damp. He looked up and saw it was raining. A rain drop fell into his eye and caused him to panic. His hand touched something and he quickly drew it back as it wasn't hard like concrete.

"A person...?" he whispered then moved the umbrella aside to peek at their face. "Who are you..."

Despite him asking, his heart rang loudly in his ears as he stared at the person's face. He looked away in fear of his heart jumping out of his chest. The other person started to stir and captured his attention again.

"Who are you..." the person asked groggily.

"I... who am I...? My name is Ju Haknyeon. I don't know anything else..." muttered Haknyeon then directed the question back to him.

"Heo Hyunjoon. I don't know anything else either." Hyunjoon said quietly.

They both reached for the umbrella and brushed hands as a result. Haknyeon pulled away completely flustered while Hyunjoon remained unfazed.

"Is this yours?" Haknyeon squeaked out.

"I don't know. I'm guessing you don't know either." Hyunjoon said as he rose to his feet, now hovering over Haknyeon.

"I don't... I don't know anything and it's scaring me!" Haknyeon shouted before breaking down into tears.

Hyunjoon quietly watched then handed him the umbrella. Haknyeon looked up at him with watery eyes.

"I'm going to go... see you around I guess." Hyunjoon said before coolly walking away.

Judging by his outfit and what were attached, he deemed himself to be a part of the police force. He didn't know what division, but figuring something out was rewarding.

"Excuse me!" Haknyeon called out, not wanting to be left alone. "I know we don't know each other, but we sort of do at the same time? I feel I can trust you, so can we stick together?"

"You're not being serious, right?" Hyunjoon asked with a straight face. "Not only are you trying to force a connection, you're also trusting someone who you don't even know? Are you stupid?"

Haknyeon felt his words pierce through him like knives. It hurt badly, but he couldn't understand why. Why did he feel the way he did for a complete stranger? Hyunjoon walked off, not wanting dead weight to hold him back from figuring things out. He knew his name, but nothing else came to mind when he thought. He easily recalled objects, word meanings, and other things as he walked around aimlessly. He quietly kept walking then stopped. Something touched his back.

"You're following me." Hyunjoon said without looking back.

"You could tell? I thought I was discreet enough." Haknyeon replied with a sheepish smile.

"My words aren't getting through to you are they? Don't follow me, don't talk to me, and leave me the hell alone." Hyunjoon snapped as it seemed speaking kindly wasn't working.

Haknyeon frowned as he watched Hyunjoon's retreating figure. It was obvious Hyunjoon didn't want him around. He closed the umbrella then patted himself down in hopes of finding something, anything. His pockets were clean. He looked around in hopes that he possibly lived in the area. Nothing struck a chord.

Haknyeon ducked into an alleyway shivering terribly. The rain hadn't let up in the slightest. He dropped the umbrella and bent over to pick it up. It was then he felt something rub up inside of him. Now that he noticed it, it made him uncomfortable. He had to strip down in order to get it out, but it was pouring out. Though, it didn't really matter since he was already drenched to the core.

Haknyeon shivered again as he pulled whatever it was out. He quickly pulled his pants back up then put up the umbrella. It was a piece of paper. He opened it up and started to read it.

"'My name is Ju Haknyeon, I am twenty one years old and I live in Seoul on Dontang Street in an apartment building. 34 apartment 8...'. What is this...?" Haknyeon mumbled as he looked it over.

There looked as if there was to be more writing, but instead it was just a straight line. A fragment of his memory came back, showing him standing in front of a building. He rose to his feet and knew what he had to do. Figure out where he was and find the apartment building.

Haknyeon looked at a map that was damp on the sides from his cold, wet hands touching it. People stared at him wondering how he got so drenched with an umbrella in hand. He folded up the map and sighed. He wasn't in Seoul. Somehow he had ended up in Gwangju. It clearly wouldn't be an easy task getting back to Seoul from where he was.

"Um, sir..." a soft voice called out.

Haknyeon looked and saw a woman looking at him with concern. Was he disturbing her?

"I apologize if my presence is bothersome, I was just about to take my leave." said Haknyeon as he picked up the umbrella.

"Oh, it's not that. It's just you're soaked despite having an umbrella. I just wanted to know if things were okay, officer..." she said as she looked him up and down.

"Officer...?" Haknyeon asked in confusion.

"Aren't you one? You're dressed like one, thought you're missing your badge and all." she replied just as confused.

"I'm Ju Haknyeon, twenty one I live in Seoul and I'm an officer..." he mumbled to himself. "Miss, can you take me to the nearest precinct?"

"Um, sure." she said with a worried smile.

Hyunjoon couldn't shake the feeling of him being watched. No matter how many times he discreetly looked back, no one was there. Why would anyone be watching him? He could hardly recall anything about himself. His body moved faster than his mind could as a knife just grazed his arm. He looked in the direction it came from and moved across the street.

He started to run in hopes of deterring whoever it was attacking him. A part of him wished he kept the Haknyeon guy around. They could've used the umbrella as a means of offense and defense... somehow. Hyunjoon looked around for a place to hide that wouldn't endanger himself nor passerby. This time a gunshot rang in his ears and just missed the back of his ankle.

He swiftly ducked into an alleyway and hoped for the best. It didn't help that he didn't know the streets. Hyunjoon wedged himself deep into a corner and prayed to anything and everything to keep him alive. Another gunshot rang. It didn't seem to have hit anyone as he didn't hear screams. He soon saw a shadow appear. He quietly left his hiding spot and made sure to carefully watch the shadow as it's all he had to go off of.

The backside of the person came into sight and he wasted no time in disarming them and placing the gun to the back of their head.

"Who are you and why are you trying to injure me?" Hyunjoon asked, finger ready to pull the trigger at any moment.

"You won't get anything out of me. You'll be dead soon anyway." the person with an evil laugh.

"I'm giving you one more chance to answer me seriously." Hyunjoon said as he pressed it harder against his skull.

"Shoot me." he said.

Hyunjoon patted him down and found a phone. One, two rounds were shot. The man howled in pain. Hyunjoon put the phone to his ear as he dialed 119 and explained the situation.

"Why didn't you just kill me?" he asked coldly.

"I have a heart. Plus there's no reason to when I can just have the police get it out of you." said Hyunjoon as he searched through his phone.

He didn't have any contacts. His phone was completely empty. Hyunjoon sighed in defeat then heard the man underneath him laugh.

"Bold if you to assume I'd keep anything incriminating on my phone." he said then had his body rolled over.

Hyunjoon forced his mouth open and searched around. He pulled the card off the inside of his cheek, uncaring of doing so causing him to bleed. The police and paramedics finally arrived and took him away.

"Fellow officer." an officer said. "We're going to have to take you and these to the station."

"That's fine." Hyunjoon replied as he followed her.

Hyunjoon quietly sat as she typed up his testimony. He looked around then spotted a familiar face. And in dry clothes.

"You." Hyunjoon said, gaining attention from those present.

"Hyunjoon?" Haknyeon said as he walked over.

"You two know each other?" the policewoman asked.

"We woke up in the rain together only knowing our names..." Haknyeon explained then noticed a dark spot and a tear on Hyunjoon's sleeve. "Hey, did you get hurt?"

"Mind your business." Hyunjoon snapped as he covered it.

Haknyeon ran away then came back carrying the first aid kit. He forcefully removed Hyunjoon's hand and pulled his arm out of his sleeve.

"Stop." Hyunjoon hissed.

"Let me do this." Haknyeon said as he stared him down.

Hyunjoon quieted down as he let Haknyeon treat him. Naturally he flinched whenever he dabbed at his cut.

"Miss, is it okay if he's given a spare as well?" asked Haknyeon.

"Yeah. He'll catch a cold like this." she said then had Haknyeon guide Hyunjoon.

They walked in silence. Hyunjoon never thought he'd see him again. Was it coincidence or was fate pulling strings? Haknyeon looked around then held a few garments up against him. Haknyeon closed then door then reached for his drenched jacket before having his hand swatted away.

"What are you doing?" Hyunjoon fussed.

"Helping you change? There's nothing wrong with that, right?" Haknyeon asked before reaching again.

Hyunjoon swatted his hands away again then started to undress himself. He wasn't some damsel in distress. Haknyeon sighed then took his wet clothes to hang them up to dry.

"So, how did you get that cut...?" Haknyeon asked as it was soon covered by the jacket.

"Assassin." Hyunjoon replied as he moved to see how it fit.

"What? Who would want to kill you? Did you have enemies?" asked Haknyeon as he followed him out.

"I don't know, but I did what I had to to protect myself." Hyunjoon said as he took a seat. "We'll know what he was after once they analyze that SD card I found."

"It wasn't in something like a phone?" Haknyeon asked curiously.

"Inside of his cheek. Must be important if he went to such lengths to put it there." replied Hyunjoon. "It was weird. I had no idea how I was able to subdue him without hesitation... what kind of officer was I...?"

Haknyeon quietly stared at the perplexed Hyunjoon. He took one of his hands and held it in both of his.

"We'll figure it all out soon enough. I discovered a major clue!" Haknyeon said cheerily.

He pulled out the note but kept it out of Hyunjoon's reach. Any sane person wouldn't touch something that came out of someone's ass.

"So this is where you live? Where are we now?" Hyunjoon asked.

"Gwangju... Seoul's pretty far from here. We can't go by public transportation without money. Even more so now that you have evil pursuers... We don't have a car nor licenses. Our only options are to hitchhike or somehow walk it." said Haknyeon. "What do you think?"

"I think..." a familiar voice said from above them. "I can get you both to Seoul safely and without endangering others."

"How!?" Haknyeon asked with wide, sparkling eyes.

"We'll use my car. How soon do you need to get there?" she asked.

"ASAP. There has to be something important there." Haknyeon responded quickly.

"Then we leave first thing tomorrow morning. Where are you two staying?" she asked to make note of where to stop.

"Um... we don't have a place to sleep... We're not from around here..." Hyunjoon said. "We're aware we can't sleep here, so we were going to take to the streets..."

"I could arrange for you both to spend overnight in the holding cell." she said with a thoughtful look. "What do you say?"

They nodded.
