The morning was a slow one. A mixture of b.o. and deodorant filled the room. The training had a small test at the end of it. And once the tests were all finished, Trudy dismissed everyone. However the intelligence unit members had stayed behind. Adam came rushing in as Trudy sighed, unimpressed by him showing up late.
"Sorry." He apologized.
"You're late." Trudy announced.
"I know. I'll do the makeup test. I—I was looking for Kev." Adam said.
"Is he okay? I don't remember seeing him last night. I was ready to prove to him that I could handle my liquor." Pru asked, worried for her friend.
"Any luck at his house?" Voight questioned.
"No. Mail's untouched, his bed's still made. But his car is not there so it looks like he never came home." Adam informed everyone.
"And he's a no-show for this." Kim spoke up.
"It's not like Kev to miss things." Pru pointed out.
"Lets track him down. Trudy. Ping his direct connect phone. Start there." Hank instructed as Platt walked off into the other room.
"Hey, so listen, last night he said he had to take care of something in Bucktown. He ever mention anything like that to you?" Adam asked Kim who shook her head 'no'.
"Anything about Jordan and Vinessa?" Hank wondered.
"No."
"Right? I mean the last time I heard, they were doing great." Adam responded.
"Hey, I think I got him." Trudy called out as everyone filed into the other room.
"Phone's pinging from Rosewood. 4458 North 14th Street." Trudy read off.
"That's well off from Bucktown." Pru commented as everyone stared down at the computer screen.
+
Pru pulled up by the side of the road. Her, Adam and Kim jumped out of the car to meet with Jay and Hailey. Arriving at the site where Kev's phone had pinged. But no sign of Kev anywhere in his car where the phone was left.
"5021 George. Squad, I need a name associated with an address: 4458 North 14th Street." Jay requested over the walkie.
"Standby." The officer on the other line said.
"Anything else yet?" Adam wondered.
"We got a Joe Baker. Two proofs for a delivery, one assault." The officer said over the radio.
"Atwater ever mention a Joe Baker, felon that lives here?" Jay questioned Adam.
"We'll take the back." Pru informed as her and Kim headed off towards the back of the house. Kim and Pru cautiously walked towards the back. Their guns drawn in front of them. Scanning the perimeter but coming across nothing out of the ordinary or dangerous. Heading over to the back door, Adam called out.
"I'm opening the door!" The door slowly opened and Adam looked at the two girls.
"Anything?" Kim asked as the two women stepped into the house,
"I got blood here." Jay announced. Hailey bent down to look under the table the blood was next to. The women pulled out his badge and ID that was stashed under it. Hailey then handed it over to Adam.
"First thing they tell you in the academy. Offender gets a gun on you, you dump your ID." Adam said.
"And you never tell them you're a cop." Pru added.
"Alright. So... offender attacks Atwater in here. He dumps his star. Then he walks him outside." Jay goes over what might have potentially happened.
+
"Everyone come over here, listen up." Hank called his team over as Adam, Pru and Jay are the last to walk out of the house. Making their way over to everyone as they formed a group.
"I want to keep this in house for now. Look, this leaks? They find out Kevin's a cop, he's a dead man. Alright, what else we got?" Hank wondered after he informed them of the plan.
"Alright, so we found out that Joe Baker didn't show up to work yesterday." Jay spoke.
"Any connections between him and Kevin?" Hank asked.
"No. There's nothing connecting them at all." Pru replied.
Alright. Any calls or texts to Kevin?" Hank questioned.
"No, no. Baker's last communication was a series of texts between him and a guy named Calvin Hill." Adam informed them as he looked at his note pad.
"Hill have a sheet?" Antonio asked.
"No, he's clean." Adam answered.
"Okay, so we find Hill. Fast." Hank instructed them as they dispersed to their cars.
+
"I just talked to Mattison at the lab." Trudy spoke up as she walked into the bullpen. Making everyone stop what they were doing to give their full attention to her.
"The blood in Baker's living room is a match to Atewater." Trudy told them as the room went radio silent. The unit not sure what to even say. Pru squeezed Adam's shoulder in a friendly, comforting way as a computer beeped.
"Sarge, we got something." Hailey announced.
"I've been monitoring Joe Baker's social media. This just got posted." Hailey informed as everyone crowded around the computer to watch the video.
"There he is." Adam pointed at Kevin in the background of the video. Sitting on the messy floor with his wrists chained.
"It was posted anonymously. Screen name 'Venganza'." Hailey told them.
"It means revenge." Antonio translated.
"The profile is fake. It was created just to post this." Hailey said.
"Alright, we know we got at least two offenders. There's one guy filming, and one guy doing the beating." Jay went over the info they knew by watching the video.
"Alright, lets get some OCD techs on this right away. I want someone we can trust." Hank instructed.
"Got it." Jay called out.
"Good, use him. Al, Antonio. You shake down every Latino gang, drug free associated with Joe Baker. Alright, run it again." Hank said as he turned his focus back onto the computer while Hank and Al headed out.
"Freeze on that fist." Hank told Hailey.
"It's a Mexican flag, gangster style." Hailey said.
"Alright, see if it pops with any of our knowns." Voight told her.
"Look at the windows. Stained glass." Trudy brought up.
"It must be a church. Possibly abandoned. You could see the small platform in the far back." Pru observed.
"Possibly." Adam said.
"Well, it's better than nothing." Hank commented.
"Good news, he's alive." Trudy looked at the bright side.
"And he's gonna stay that way." Hank stayed as he headed to his office.
+
Antonio hung up his phone and walked around his desk.
"Alright, listen up. Asset Forfeiture got a hit in Joe Baker's debit card. These surveillance stills are from a walk-up atm in West Lawn. This guy with a mask took out 300 bucks. Maxed out Joe's daily limit, but he still got over 19 grand in the account." Antonio explained as he posted the pictures onto the board.
"When was this?" Hank asked.
"3 hours ago." Antonio replied.
"So there's a chance they're trying to drain the account completely." Pru brought up.
"And they're after money, there's a good chance they're gonna wait until Monday and wipe the account." Trudy added.
"Well, that leaves us 36 hours." Antonio clarified.
"Alright. Jay, Hailey, head over to West Lawn to this atm. Check PODS, surveillance of nearby businesses. Maybe we can catch a skeletor parked somewhere close." Hank instructed as Jay and Hailey grabbed their jackets and headed out.

It had been almost 32 hours that Kev had been missing and they had only gotten a few leads. Everyone was running on the bad coffee from the break room, having not gotten any sleep. None of them could rest until they found Kevin.
All of them had been doing their own little things on leads to try and speed up the process but things had still been going slow. Adam had picked up one of his work phones that buzzed continuously in his desk drawer. He snapped his fingers to get everyone's attention right after he answered the call. All of them quietly gathered around as Adam switched the call to speaker for them all to listen.
"Yeah, man, things change." Kevin spoke on the other line as he kept his cover.
"We had a deal." Adam played along.
"I'm not saying we don't. I'm not saying we don't have a deal, I'm just saying I need my money now so how about next time I get you in about 30 a piece, huh? How's that sound?" Kevin negotiated.
"I hear that." Adam said as he rocked a bit in one foot as Kim took down some notes.
"Okay, so we good?" Kev double-checked.
"I can get you 90, only cause it's you. When and where, bro?" Adam made the deal. Pru nervously gripped her arm, hoping this would work and that Atwater would be alright.
"Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Let's meet me at that old factory on 95th and Bishop, and I'll send one of my guys to come grab it." Kevin's voice rose as he gave out a location. Not liking what they were hearing when he said he'd send someone.
"No, no, no, man. It's gotta be you. I'm not giving that kind of cash to a stranger." Adam said, not agreeing.
"A.A. This is the only way it's gonna work, you understand me? So, 95th and Bishop. Being the money, okay? A.D.?" Kev told him how it had to be.
"Alright, man, if that's how it is. It's your money. Give me two hours." Adam responded then the call ended.
"How are we gonna get the money? We can't got to Woods for the 1505 funds." Kim brought up.
"Just let me worry about that." Hank said.
+
"Check. Check. Is the bag mic working?" Adam double-checked as he held the bag.
"Yes, loud mouth. I hear you just fine." Pru snickered as Adam scoffed, placing the bag into the drivers seat and shutting the door. Pru laid down on the floor of car. Her small body fit in the tight space. The car was a nice car but it wasn't that fit for extra passengers when you looked at the space in the back. It was a tight squeeze and a nightmare for claustrophobic people.
"Copy. We got you over here, man." Antonio said over the walkie.
"Alright, Firebird is coming. Remember. Let the exchange happen. This guy is gonna lead us to Atwater." Voight walkied to let them know a car was approaching. Pru turned her volume down on the walkie so she wouldn't be made. Her hand hovered over her holster just for caution. Pru peaked up towards the window to see Adam leaning back on the car. A car door shut and their voices began to talk.
"You A.D.?" The man asked Adam.
"Who's asking?" Adam wondered.
"A friend of Anthony's. You got a package for me?" The man asked as Adam sighed. Opening the door to quickly lock eyes with Pru before he shut the door again with the bag in hand.
"It's all there." Adam said.
"I ain't taking your word." The man looked through some of the money then zipped the bag back up.
"It's been real, yo." The man began to walk away.
"Hey. Tell Anthony I'll see him soon." Adam told the guy before he got in his car to take off. Adam quickly got into his car as Pru climbed into the passenger seat unseen by the other dude. Showing her screen to Adam he saw the file. The mans name was Billy. She turned up the walkie volume as they caught on to his conversation.
"Hey. I got the cash. I'm coming to you." Billy informed Reimundo.
"No, no, change of plans. Take it over to Exley's. Stay there, stay hidden. I'll see you in a couple of hours. I'm gonna clean up here." The other man said.
"You got it. I'm headed that way right now. Man, who'd have known it'd been so easy, right?" Billy said.
"Alright. Move in. Do not shoot unless necessary. This guy is our only link to Atwater. Repeat. Do not shoot." Hank instructed as Antonio sped his car right in front of Billy's to stop him from taking off. The cars pulled in around him to barricade him in place. Adam and Pru joined everyone outside of the car with their guns raised. Billy exited the car with a gun in his own hand.
"Drop the weapon!" Pru demanded.
"Drop it right now or we'll shoot!" Kim jelled at him as everyone started to slowly move in on the guy.
"No. No. Hey. No one's going to shoot you, man. Alright?" Adam began to talk to Billy as Adam lowered his weapon, placing it on the pavement.
"We just want to talk to you, we can help." Adam said.
"Go to hell?" Billy yelled.
"Billy. Hey. You talk to us. We can make this go away, Billy." Adam tried persuading but he raised his gun in Kim's direction. With only one choice, Antonio took a shot at Billy. Billy fell to the ground as Kim quickly went to call it in. Billy laid there on the pavement bleeding out. Adam ran over to the man in desperation.
"Where are they? Where's my partner?" Adam yelled. Adam tried to revive him but it was no use as Hailey checked his pulse.
"He's gone." Hank told him.
"Why'd you do that? You just killed Kevin, man." Adam asked Antonio.
"What did you just say?" Antonio questioned.
"You just killed Kevin!" Adam yelled. Kim and Pru pushes Adam back to separate him from Antonio. Pru took a step away as Kim hugged Adam to calm him down.
"What if I missed and he shot Burgess? Then what?" Antonio yelled back at Adam who had tears in his eyes. Feeling hopeless like he just lost his partner for good.
"What do we do now?" Adam wondered.
"I'll tell you what we do now. We all get back on the same page. And we double down on what we got. Al. Grab Billy's phone, ping Reimundo's burner. We all saw Kevin bear a stained glass window. That means Pru might be right and he's probably at a church. So we're gonna search every damn church within a mile radius of that cell tower." Hank instructed them as they split up.
+
Al had sent over the location of the burner to all of them as Adam and Pru looked around their surroundings. Realizing they were close to the church they raced to the building. Their adrenaline boomed as they rushed into the church. They heard a distant voice upstairs. The two rushed up the spiral staircase. As they got closer they heard Kevin's voice loud and clear.
Guns raised and ready for anything. The two entered the main room of the church upstairs to see Kevin standing there with a gun pointed at him by Joe Baker. The both were clearly wounded. Clothes stained with some of their own blood.
"Adam. Pru. Stand down. Joe, put the gun down. We good, right? We good. Just drop it. We all good, bro. Stand down. We all good. Right, Joe? Just put the gun down." Kevin talked Joe Baker down as the man gave in. Dropping the weapon down onto the ground. Kev quickly snatched the gun up, breathing out in relief. He had gone through so much and he finally felt safe. He was found.
"We're alright."
