Traditions

Danny stopped dancing. He looked at Jessica with a confused look. Jessica broke away from him and shook her head.

"Sorry, That was just- weird." Jessica says taking a few steps back.

"What, Jessica no... it wasn't weird. Was that a proposal?" He says

"Maybe."

"Did you just ask me to marry you?" Danny says with a chuckle

"Yes! Okay yes!"

"Oh... wow." He grins taking Jessica's hands.

"You never said yes or no." Jessica says

"Yes, of course I'll marry you. Are you crazy? Did you think I'd say no?" Danny says with excitement.

"Well I don't know!" Jessica says shrugging her shoulders

"I've wanted to marry you since the day I started dating you in high school."

"Oh! That's a long time..." she grins

"I feel like I should have asked. Isn't that tradition? The guy asks the girl in a cheesy way? I didn't know you'd be ready."

"Fuck traditions! Has anything about our relationship been traditional? I mean we are doing this our way. And as for being ready, I'm ready if you are. I want to be with you forever."

"That's true... our relationship is in a way untraditional. I like it that way. I want to be with you too."

Jessica smiles up at Danny and he puts his arms around her. Danny passionately kisses Jessica then spins her around.

"Let's do it tomorrow." Jessica says

Danny widens his eyes "What? Tomorrow? You want to get married tomorrow?" Danny says

"Yes! We can go to city hall and get married. Fuck work let's just go! I mean fuck everything, traditions, big weddings, white gowns!"

"Whoa... Jessica slow down!"

"Danny! I want to do this. I'm so sure about you. I love you so much. I just want to marry you and be your wife."

"Jess, I want to be your husband but there is a lot we have to think about. How would our families feel if we just ran off and got married without them? They'd be crushed. I know my mom would. I mean damn Angelica did this and my mom is still pissed and it's been twenty years.... and your mom, she'd want to see you get married."

Jessica sighs then sits down on the couch. "I just want it to be special between you and I. Big weddings aren't my thing."

"I know baby but this is big. This involves family. Family is important."

"I'm sorry... maybe I just went a bit over my head."

Danny sits next to Jessica and kisses her cheek. "Don't apologize. We'll get married and it will be special."

"Thank you." Jessica smiles

The next day-

Danny rolls over to Jessica's side of the bed and continuously kisses her. Jessica smiles then turns to Danny and kisses his lips.

"Good morning."

"Good morning." He chuckles

Jessica sits up then runs her hands through her hair. "Would you consider us engaged?" Jessica says randomly

"I think so. Don't you?"

"I do too."

"We just need a ring. Since you asked let me get you a ring."

"No! Let me get you one, since I asked you."

"Our parents are going to think we are crazy." Danny chuckles

"They'll laugh."

"Who cares."

"We should make up some big extravagant story." Jessica says

Danny chuckles "We can't lie!"

"Why not? It could be our little secret."

Danny rolls his eyes then kisses Jessica before he gets out of bed. "You really are crazy."

"Am not! I think it was quite romantic on my part."

"It was, baby."

"I bet you couldn't have done any better." Jessica says jokingly

"Oh you did not!"

"I did." Jessica crosses her arms

"You're obviously crazy or haven't met me. I'm quite the romantic expert."

"Keep telling yourself that, hun!"

After work Jessica was walking around the city trying to find pretty spring flowers for the apartment.

Once she found a nice bouquet she began walking down the street back home. Little stands were lined up everywhere selling different things. Jessica came across a small antique store on the way home that she had noticed before. Jessica got the crazy idea to go inside and check it out...

Jessica walked through the store looking at different items until she came across a section with jewelry. Jessica looked at the table until she found two gold rings. One for a man and one for a woman. Jessica slid the one single, sold gold ring onto her wedding finger and it fit perfectly. Jessica grinned softly then put the other one on her thumb. It was a bit big which helped her with knowing if it would fit Danny.

Jessica got some background information on the rings to make sure they were real, which they were. She decided to get them.

"Special gift?" The cashier says putting them in a box.

"Engagement." She smiles

"Aww, how sweet! Congrats!"

"Hah, thanks!"

When Jessica got back home she was so anxious to see Danny and give him the ring. When she walked in jazz music was playing and the lights were off. The whole apartment was lit by candle light. Danny sat at the table and grinned.

"And you said I couldn't be romantic." He chuckles

"I never said that..." she giggles walking up
To him.

"I know, I'm teasing."

Jessica sits on Danny's lap and rests her arm on his shoulder. "Danny, I love you."

"I love you too, baby."

Jessica reaches inside her pocket and pulls out the rings. She puts them in the palm of her hand. Danny was awestruck.

"What are these?"

"Our engagement rings."

"How did you manage to find these?"

"An antique store."

Danny takes the small one out of Jessica's hand and slides it onto her finger. It was a perfect fit.

"Jessica Lange, will you marry me?" He smiles

Jessica nods "yes!" She smiles

Jessica opens up her hand then puts Danny's ring on his finger. Ironically it fit perfectly as well.

"Daniel Huston, will you marry me?"

"Yes, yes yes yes!" He says

Jessica stars to tear up quickly. Danny cups her cheeks and kisses her.

"I love you Jessica, and I'm so happy with you. You're my world and you always will be."

"Aww, I love you too."
