Lean On Me
Later that day//
Sarah wanted to see Jessica again so Jessica got a taxi ride over to the hospital. Danny was planning on coming but had to be at his office for an emergency.
When Jessica got to the hospital all of Sarah's family was there. Balloons and flowers were scattered around the room. Aspen was in Sarah's arms while Evan laid next to her.
"Look, it's jessie!" Sarah's mother Catherine says running up to give her a hug.
"Hi, Cathrine!" Jessica smiles
"It's been quite a long time. You look great."
"Thanks, you do too!"
"Have you seen my little grand baby? Isn't she precious?" Cathrine squeals
"Haha, She is very precious!"
Jessica walks up to Sarah and Evan then gives them both a hug. Aspen slept peacefully swaddled up in a pink blanket.
"How are you two holding up?"
"Pretty well. We've had lots of help and we were able to catch up on some sleep." Sarah says
"That's good! And the baby? How's she?"
"Great!" Evan says caressing Aspen's cheek.
//
Jessica stayed most of the day to spend time with the baby and Sarah and Evans family.
Once it became later in the night Evan was going to drive the in-laws to their hotels. It had been getting late but Sarah didn't want to be alone so Jessica stayed behind and held the baby while Sarah took a shower.
"Look at your beautiful eyes! You are just so beautiful!" Jessica says in a baby voice.
Aspen moves around then begins to fuss. "Oh, don't be sad little girl! Aunt Jessie doesn't really know what to do when you cry. And we don't want mommy to get out of her shower!" Jessica stands up and sways back and forth trying to calm her.
Jessica talked to the baby for a while just saying random things. Aspen slowly started to calm down. She looked up at Jessica with beaming eyes and Jessica just started to laugh.
Sarah slowly wobbled out of the bathroom and stood at the door watching Jessica with the baby. Sarah loved how Jessica was around babies. She knew deep down in her heart that Jessica would be an amazing mother. She wanted motherhood for Jessica, but she knew it wasn't an option.

May sixth,
It was the anniversary of Jessica's fathers death. It had been seven years. Those seven years felt like decades. Not a day went by the Jessica didn't think about her father. She craved to hear her fathers voice again. She missed his jokes, his love, and kindness. She missed how everything was when he was alive. Their family was so much more alive. Now nothing seemed right.
Jessica couldn't find herself to get out of bed and enjoy a sunny Sunday afternoon. She just laid in bed for most of the morning pretending to sleep so Danny didn't hover. Danny left her be, not realizing what day it was. He figured Jessica just wanted to really sleep in.
Jessica curled herself up underneath her comforter and cried uncontrollably. She tried her best to stay as quite as possible.
Danny came into their room around twelve in the afternoon.
He climbed into the bed and laid up behind Jessica, kissing her neck.
"Baby, are you feeling okay?" He whispers
Jessica wipes her tears under the sheets then sits up from bed. She looks at Danny and lies.
"I'm fine, I just couldn't sleep. I hope you don't mind if I have a lazy day."
"Oh course, go ahead and rest. I'm going to go to the market and get some food for dinner. Do you want anything?"
"No, I'm fine." She smiles then kisses his cheek.
"I'll be home shortly. I may stop and run a few more errands. Do you want to come?" He says happily
"No, you go and enjoy your Sunday."
"Alright, I love you."
"I love you too." She smiles
//
When Danny left Jessica slowly began getting out of bed. She stayed in her pj's all afternoon and laid on the couch flipping through photo albums and sipping on a cup of tea.
Jessica's tears kept falling onto the pictures in the album each time Jessica came across a photo of her and her dad.
Albert was Jessica's best friend. He understood her best and Jessica did everything in life for him, to make him proud. Jessica believes she wouldn't be the person she was today without him.
As Jessica was sobbing on the couch Danny got home with loads of groceries. Jessica didn't have enough time to hide the fact that she was crying. When Danny noticed her on the couch he set down everything and ran to her.
"Danny, I lied! I'm not fine." She says throwing down the photo album. Danny sits down next to Jessica and she digs her head into his chest and sobs.
Danny rubs her back and holds her tight. "Jessie... what's wrong?" He says softly
"It's been seven years... since my dad died." She cries
Danny was so shocked to hear that it was the anniversary of Al's death. He knew it was around this time, but not today. He felt like such an ass for leaving Jessica all day.
"Jess, I didn't know. I'm so sorry."
"I want him back! Every year I do this to myself and I know that no matter how much I beg he'll never come back, never!"
"I know, it's devastating."
"He's missed so much, and he's going to miss so much. I just wish he could see where I am today."
"Al would be so proud of you, jess. No matter what you did he'd always be proud. Your dad loved you to pieces and more. He's still here Jessica, he's watching you."
Jessica breaks away from Danny and just leans on him. Danny puts his arms around Jessica and sighs.
"... he wouldn't want you being so upset. He was always so happy. Do you remember what he told you before he died?" Danny says looking down at her.
Jessica nods
"He told you to keep going. Because life isn't forever, and he didn't want you wasting one minute of your day being sad... but happy, happy that he wasn't going to be in pain."
Jessica puts her hand on Danny's chest and kisses him. "I should have talked to you earlier, I just couldn't."
"I understand, it's okay."
Jessica smiles softly then just cries in Danny's arms.
"Sometimes in our lives we all have pain, We all have sorrow,But if we are wise,We know that there's always tomorrow." Danny starts to sing softly in his best singing voice.
Jessica giggles then looks up to Danny. "What are you doing?" She giggles
"Lean on me, when you're not strong, And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on, For it won't be long 'Til I'm gonna need, Somebody to lean on...."
Danny stands up then walks over to the CD player set. He looks through some disks then puts in a cd.
Jessica sits up and curls up in a ball, watching Danny. She knew exactly what he was doing.
"This is the song I always sang to you when you were sad..." He says as he presses play.
Jessica shakes her head. "Danny..."
Danny puts his hands on his lips and sings along.
"Please swallow your pride, If I have faith you need to borrow For no one can fill those of your needs, That you won't let show." He sings with a grin.
Jessica begins to laugh at how hard Danny was trying to sing. He walks over to Jessica and reaches out for her hands.
"Danny, I don't want to dance."
"Oh but you're going to dance." He says sternly pulling her up from the couch.
Jessica rolls her eyes then takes his hands. Danny begins to sway back and forth to the music. Jessica leans on Danny as they sway back and forth. Danny hums to the rhythm while Jessica has her eyes closed.
Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
"Thank you, Danny." Jessica whispers
"I'll do anything to make you feel just a little bit better. I love you."
"I love you too." She smiles
Danny continues to sway back and forth then Jessica stops. Danny looks at her and she starts to blush.
"Danny, I want to marry you." She says
"I want to marry you too." He says
"Then marry me. Marry me, Danny."
