CHAPTER EIGHT

IN THE FOLLOWING days after her second incident with the clown, Mary was as skittish as one would think. When Bill called her, and said that he may have found the missing piece of the puzzle to Georgie's disappearance, she was very skeptical at first. He explained that he had seen some projector film in Ben's bedroom with a map of the older version of Derry. It would help them find Bill's missing brother. Nevertheless, despite the girl's gut telling her to stay home, and away from trouble, she biked to Bill's house to see what the young boy was talking about.

When she arrived, the rest of the Losers Club was already in Bill's garage, setting the projector screen up. Bill was putting up a map of the town of Derry, with the sewer system marked it red. "Hey, guys." Mary said as she parked her bike outside the door, and walked in. Everyone replied with a greeting of their own, before Beverly shut the garage door. The group was left in complete darkness up until Bill turned the projector on.

Ben handed over the film as Mary took a seat on the floor in between Eddie and Stan. Bill matched up the film with the map, as the group watching intently. "Look." He said while pointing at the picture. "It's where G-G-Georgie disappeared." Mary followed his gaze, seeing the letter 'X' circled, with the words 'storm drain' labeled beneath it.

"There's the ironworks." He continued. "And black spot. . . Everywhere it happens, it's-it's all connected by the sewers. And they all meet up at-"

"The well house!" Ben cut him off. Upon hearing that, Mary recalled the story Ben told at his house about the beaver trappers who all went missing, and all they could find were clothes leading to the well house.

Stan looked over at the group. "It's in the house on Neibolt street." A shiver ran down Mary's spine as she remembered the terrible things she encountered there.

"I don't like this." She muttered as she brought her hand up to her mouth, and tried to control her breathing.

"You mean that creepy-ass house where the hobos like to sleep?" Richie asked just as Eddie began to hyperventilate, and take a deep breath of his inhaler. Mary turned to him, and put her hand on his shoulder. She empathized with him, because she was feeling just as overwhelmed as he was.

Beverly spoke out from in-between Bill and Ben, "I hate that place. . . It always feels like it's watching me."

"That's where I saw it. That's where I saw the clown." Eddie spoke softly.

Mary nodded her head. "Me too."

"T-T-That's where It lives." Bill explained, glancing at Mary.

An uneasy feeling began to overwhelm everyone in the room. "I can't imagine anything ever wanting to live there." Stanley stated.

Before Stanley could even finish what he was saying, Eddie shot up from the floor in a frantic motion. "Can we stop talking about this? I-I can barely breathe. T-This is summer, we're kids, I-I can barely breathe, and I'm having a fucking asthma attack, and I'm not doing this!" Eddie yelled at the group before turning around, and ripping the map off of the wall.

"What the hell? P-Put the map back!" Bill yelled.

Eddie shook his head with a determined look on his face. "Mhm-mhm," He muttered.

Just then, the projector began to turn slides. Mary looked over at Bill, who was not the cause of this, because he too was looking at it with a furrowed eyebrows. Every time it changed, the group was left in darkness for a second, before a new image would come up. However, the machine continued clicking, and Mary looked back at the wall while her heart beat began to beat quickly.

Eddie turned around just as a picture of Georgie and his father canoe up. However, it didn't stay for long. The projector continued clicking through slides that showed the Denbrough's summer vacation. "W-What happened?" Bill muttered as he looked at the machine again. "What's going on?"

Mike walked over and tried to fix it, but it was no use. The machine had a mind its own, as it continued sliding. "Guys," Mike muttered.

A picture came up of the Denbrough family holding hands. Bill and Georgie stood in the middle, and the machine began to click much faster as it quickly got closer to Georgie's face. "Bill?" Stan called out. By now, everyone was on edge and frantically trying to rationalize the situation in their heads.

Slowly, the picture began to move to the right, to show Bill's mother, with the wind blowing her hair in her face. The clicks came faster, and faster, as it seemed like the wind was blowing in real time. Her fiery red hair consumed her entire face, and once it began to move back into place, it was no longer Bill's mother.

     Bill's mother was now Pennywise.

That was what sent everyone into a panicked frenzy. Mary jumped to her feet to get as far away from the picture as fast as possible. "What the fuck is that?" Richie screamed out as the group backed themselves against the wall behind the projector. By now, Pennywise's whole face was shown, and he wasn't moving. Just staring at the bunch of kids.

"Turn it off!" Beverly yelled. Mary began to frantically grab onto Richie, who was the unlucky one beside her. Mike took action, and kicked the projector as hard as he could. The machine was sent to the floor with a loud crash! The film laid around it as the picture of Pennywise disappeared. However, the group was not in the clear.

The projector continued to click through whatever film managed to stay inside of it. This time, blurry pictures of Pennywise were displayed on the wall. Three clicks went by, before the clown was gone. The projector stopped. It was silent in the garage for a few seconds.

Without warning, another click was heard, and then a gigantic Pennywise came busting through the screen. Mary let out a scream as she frantically tried to get away from the clown as it scrambled towards the group of kids, trying to snatch one of them up. The machine continued to click every few seconds, and Pennywise just seemed to get closer and closer each time a blackout occurred.

The entire group scrambled towards the door as the clown continued to crawl at a fast pace towards them. Mary tripped over one of the guys as they all were backing up. She grabbed onto whoever was next to her to help her stand up, and get away from the beast as quickly as possible.

Luckily, Ben and Mike drew the door of the garage up, and the sunlight flooded into the room.

     Pennywise was gone.

Mary was still holding onto Bill, who just happened to be the guy next to her. As she tried to control her breathing, she muttered, "Sorry," and took a small step away from the boy.

Beverly came over to the group with a shocked expression on her face. She patted Ben on the shoulder, before turning and giving Bill a hug. Mary furrowed her eyebrows. She felt the same pang of jealousy she did when they were at Beverly's house, and she saw the two standing very close to each other. Mary also did not know why this was what she was thinking about at a time like this.

Eddie frantically said, "It saw us, and it knows where we are."

"It always did." Bill replied. "So, let's go." He then walked out of the garage towards the cluster of bikes before them.

The group turned to face him. "Go?" Ben asked. "Go where?"

     "Neibolt. That's where G-G-Georgie is."

Stan pipe up from beside Mike, "After that?"

"Yeah, it's summer. We should be outside. . ." Richie said.

Bill's expression showed clear agitation. "If you say it's summer one more f-f-fucking time. . ." He then turned, grabbed his bike, and climbed on it.

"Bill! Wait!" Beverly called out, but the boy did not listen. He just continued to bike away from his friends as they protested.

Mary let out a shaky breath. "God, this clown his tearing this group apart." She thought in her head. She was very conflicted. Should she go with Bill? The clown would continue to terrorize them even if they did nothing. Truly, they were already deep into this mess, and there was no coming out of it. Risking it all, she said,

"There's only one thing we can do."
