Chapter 3
"Swipe like this," Shadymaple instructed, her paw swiftly striking through the air and landing on a broad leaf, quickly shredding it.
Larrypaw nodded, and tried to be as good as his mentor. Shadymaple was a brilliant fighter, and Larrypaw wanted to be just like her. It had been five sunrises since his apprentice-ship and he knew that Crazytail was proud of him, even if she didn't know it. He quickly brought his paw down on Shadymaple. He had learned from his first battle training session that Shadymaple expected claws and teeth, nothing else. His claws laced cuts down her side.
"Brilliant," Shadymaple said. "I'm sure you'll be good for our atta- I mean, great for hunting, yah! We're not attacking StarClan, that's for sure."
"I thought this was StarClan?" Larrypaw meowed, confusedly.
"What? Did I say it wasn't? Oh my gosh, Larrypaw. This is StarClan. What else could it be?"
Larrypaw shrugged. "Yeah, I guess," he meowed, looking at the red scratches on Shadymaple's shoulder and side. "Do you really think I'm a good fighter?"
"Yes. Now, I can sense Crazytail walking towards you to wake you. Good-bye!" Shadymaple vanished into thin air and Larrypaw woke to prodding in his side.
"Larrypaw, Larrypaw, we have to go training so wake your sorry self up!" Crazytail screeched in his ear. "We're going to practice fighting. You should be brilliant, because I'm training you."
"What are we doing for practice?" Larrypaw asked.
"Oh, it's really fun. Follow me!" Crazytail said before speedily walking away. Larrypaw got to his paws and followed. They walked for what seemed only a while, and then they were at a moor.
"Is this WindClan?" Larrypaw asked unbelievably.
"Yes. How did you know?" Crazytail asked.
"All the elders and stuff always say that WindClan lives on the moor. . . . That is true, right?"
"Yes. It is very true. We are here to attack WindClan!"
"But I thought ShadowClan was our enemy. Why aren't we attacking them instead?"
"Because I said so!" Crazytail snapped, then rubbed her forepaw sheepishly against the ground. "Well, to be honest, I'm not allowed to take you to ShadowClan. Raisinstar is the only one allowed to kill ShadowClan cats. It's kind of like her trophy, I guess you could say."
Larrypaw nodded. "That makes sense." Then he jumped in excitement. "Come on, let's go kill some cats!"
The two cats stalked into the camp, until Crazytail said something. "This reminds me of when Raisinstar and I attacked ShadowClan on her first day as an apprentice."
First day? This is my fifth day! And I'm Raisinstar's son!
They pushed through the gorse tunnel at the entrance to the camp and a cat immediately screeched. "Aah! ThunderClan intruders! Oh my go-" the cat was cut off as Crazytail pulled a laser out of his pocket and shot at him (yes, all cats have pockets and laser guns. It isn't even funny. It's perfectly normal).
The Clan leader who was apparently called Dumbstar stood up. "I will not let ThunderClan torture my innocent cats. You must go through me first!"
Larrypaw glanced at Crazytail, who looked eager. "Bring it on," she snarled, bringing her lips up over her teeth and trying to look scary. Dumbstar tipped his head to each side, cracking it so he would look more menacing.
Crazytail leapt at him, claws outstretched, and battered painstakingly at him with her sharp claws. Dumbstar looked bored, sitting still and swatting Crazytail away with his forepaws.
Why is the bad guy always so good? Wait. Actually, Dumbstar isn't all bad because we attacked first. But he's still evil!
Larrypaw stepped forward and broke them apart. "You know, that is not how you are supposed to fight! Do you both need a lesson in fighting?"
Dumbstar and Crazytail both sat innocently down and nodded. Crazytail's ears flopped to each side as she shook her head. Both of their tongues poked out of their mouths.
"Ok." Larrypaw said. He stood up and swiped with his paw. "Like that instead."
Dumbstar and Crazytail both looked dumbfounded (which was not unusual for Dumbstar), and Larrypaw growled. "Come on Crazytail. It's not worth wasting our precious time here. I want to hunt for my Dad since he's not a very good hunter, himself." Larrypaw turned and trotted away hurriedly. Get away, Crazytail will follow. . . . I hope, anyways.
"Come on Crazytail!" Larrypaw meowed exasperatedly. "We've got to go!"
The she-cat frowned but got to her feet. "See you later," she told Dumbstar.
