Chapter Two
Sky's P.O.V
"Wake up!"
I groaned, thrashing my pillow onto my face.
"Wake up!" The voice coaxed. I hissed, as I twirled my head around to see the last person that I wanted to see. Barney.
"Okay! I'm up!" I spat.
"You have training, remember?" Excitement fizzed in my heart, like someone opening a can of beer.
"Damn, why did you have to wake me up?" I complained. Barney crossed his arms, his green eyes rolling.
"The queen told me too! Why would I want to wake the weak, frail knight." I just started him. I just wanted to chop his face off. I brushed past him, walking down the stairs. I bumped into Sub along the way.
"Hello, Sky!" He greeted. I smiled and waved.
"Hey, I am going to train Brotato!" I gushed. He nodded, calmly.
"I am going to torture James today. Here, I have some bread for you." He placed it in the palm of my hands. I blinked gratefully at him.
"Thanks! But who is James?"
"The guy I found yesterday." He answered. He's so lucky! I've always wanted to crush my enemies in the fists! I swallowed the last of my bread, and headed off to the training ground. I crossed the bridge that lead to it, and gazed at the curtains of the one waterfall we had near the castle. I closed my eyes, letting the mist spray serenely on my face. I continued trekking, until I saw the young apprentice.
"Sky!" He called, thrill in his brown eyes. I smiled, loping towards him.
"Hello!" Brotato squeaked.
"Hello, how are you?" I inquired.
"Pumped!"
I tossed him a sword, as he caught it quickly.
"We are going to learn defense." I instructed. He nodded, frowning in concentration. He seemed to be waiting.
"So...how will I defend?" He asked. I raised an eyebrow.
"You show me." I lunged towards him, as he gasped in shock. I twisted my sword at him, as he veered to the right.
"You are running! Not defending!" I scowled. He turned around and looked at his sword. He nodded, as my sword was running at his chest. He clashed his sword against mine, his head looking at my foot. He tried to step on it, but instead I did, which caused him to trip. He growled in annoyance. I helped him up, and said,
"That was a good move, but I could see your head look at my foot."
"Well...I have to look at it to hit it." He said, dusting his clothes.
"No you don't." I answered, with a smile. He looked at me, confused. I continued to talk.
"You can study your opponent's distance with their foot. When you're face to face, you'll know where it is, so you don't look down. They will see and know what you will do. Look at your sword or something."
"How will I know where his foot is!? In battle, I won't always look at his foot, until I am face to face!" He fretted.
"You will know one day. I was in your boat, but look at me now. I didn't look at your foot." He paused and nodded.
"Another defending move is that if they will stab you with the sword, you elbow their shoulder, so they can't swing it. Make sure you elbow it hard. Maybe even break it. It will be hard under the armor, but I've done it before. Try it on me."
"But you..."
"Do it!" He flinched. He narrowed his eyes, thinking. He had his confidence. He lunged at me, hitting his sword on mine. He suddenly had only one hand on his sword, confusing me. He suddenly grabbed my shoulder. But not the one that my main hand was holding the sword. I laughed, and tried to flip him over, but I couldn't. He grasped it too hard. I struggled, as he caught my other shoulder, then released the other hand and caught his sword. He elbowed my arm hard. I mean it! It hurt! But not as much as others. He kicked my feet, as I scrambled onto the ground. The blade of his sword, was barely touching my throat.
"Did I win?" He puffed, releasing me. I got up, impressed.
"Why did you grab my other shoulder?" I asked. He smiled, proudly.
"Well, I wanted to confuse you, so you thought I did the wrong choice. But since you are teaching me, you would expect me to elbow you. Same with other knights. Even when I grab your other shoulder you can't move." Shock rippled through me. I didn't know he would be this good. I smirked and kicked his sides. He gasped in astonish, and got out his sword. He didn't complain, as he tried to grab my arm, bringing my whole body to the ground to pin me, but I tucked my arm, and pinned him down instead.
"What was that!?" He snapped.
"You never know when someone will be behind you." I instructed.
"Okay." He answered quietly. I pat his shoulder.
"Good job. You are done for today. The king will be proud of how well you did." He beamed.
"I did well, and you're going to tell him!?"
"Yeah." He smiled.
"I knew it!" He gushed.
"Don't be cocky." I warned. His smile faded.
"Right. Should I get going?"
"You will." I watched him leave, as he skipped into the dewy grass. I sighed, and sat down, watching Barney train Kyle. I want to be the best, and I've almost been beaten by an apprentice and Barney is so swift, his can slash anyone with a kitchen knife! I threw a pebble at the oak tree. I should be very proud of Brotato...and Barney. And...I am, but Barney will kick me around like a ragdoll! I growled under my breath and walked back to the castle to tell Jin the news.
