Chapter 4
I open my eyes, expecting to be in the beautiful world that I would always prefer over this one. Instead, I see a guy, dressed in a school uniform. My roommate.
I run into the bathroom, throwing up along the way. I felt extremely sick.
After letting go of my breakfast, I had came back to my bed to find my headset soaked in water. My roommate, Noah, sat in the corner laughing.
"You looked so peaceful, I had to do it!" he said, choking on laughter.
"You could've killed me! That is electrical, you know!" I yell.
"I know! Isn't that funny?" he says, finishing up his laughing fest.
Now, the only reason I decided to room with this guy is because he is almost never here. It's kind of like his backup if one of his friends is too busy. And this guy has a ton of friends.
"You're paying for a new headset." I say, suddenly realizing that it was most likely broken.
"Oh, heck no. I'm not paying for something of my stupid roommate's. You can get your frickin parents to get you another one." he says.
My face drains color. "You're... buying... me a.... new.... headset!" I scream, smacking him in the face.
"What the-?" he says, holding his cheek.
"You know, you should maybe think before you open that stupid mouth to say those stupid words!" I scream at him, ripping his hair.
He screams, and runs out of the apartment. Probably to tell the landlord on me. But, clearing that thought out of my mind, I rush into the bathroom to get a hair dryer.
I blow dry my headset, hoping for the impossible best.
The door opens, and I expect it to be the landlord, ready to tell me to pack my bags and leave. But when I turn around to face my punishment, I see Noah, his brown hair hanging over his face.
"What." I say, flicking the off switch on the blow dryer.
"I'm sorry." he says.
"Sure you are. You are the most truthful person I have ever met." I say.
He half smiles. He swoops his hair out of his face, showing the bleeding scratches across his face. "I just went down a floor, and told my parents. They told me about your parents." he says. "Since they're the most Christian people ever, the thought of their son electrocuting his roommate wasn't a great thing. And the parents part. Um, so, yeah. I'm sorry." He says.
"Whatever. I'll be happy when you leave my sight." I say, turning on the system.
"Okay, bye." he says, exiting the room.
When I plug in the cord, it sends a small shock through my finger. I flinch, and shake my hand. I flip the on switch, and the screen loads, showing the Jaylemm entry title.
I sigh in relief, and wait as I open my virtual eyes.
I sit in a arm chair, not expectantly.
I hear whispers from the other side of the room, and close my eyes.
"You know its dangerous." a familiar voice says.
"But its not fair for her!" Elle says.
I let out a moan, trying to let them know that I'm back.
"Jemma!" Laye says, running up to me, and wrapping her arms around my neck.
"What?" I ask.
"I thought you were deleted!" she yells.
Elle's eyes grow wide, "Laye!" she yells.
"I don't care if she finds out!" Laye yells.
"What's going on?" I ask.
"Um, what happened to you?" Char asks, sitting in a rolling desk chair.
"Um, my bratty roommate spilled water on my headset. I just blow dried it, and luckily, it turned back on." I say, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
"Oh, now I feel like I sorta overreacted. You probably are really confused right now." Laye says.
"Yeah, I am. Can someone explain?" I ask, looking around the fancy room.
"Oh, well. It doesn't matter now, anyways. Laye, Elle, you have your way. For now." Char says, turning around and walking away.
The tall wooden doors slam behind her, and suddenly its just us three again.
"So, no explanation?" I ask.
Elle sighs, "My life's hard."
"Of course it is. All of our lives are hard. That's what life is all about." Laye says.
"Geez, I leave for a few hours and Laye is all preachy." I say.
"Well, you leave for a few hours and become a brat. Reminds me of someone I know." Laye says, looking deathly at Elle.
"Well, I think she just became more awesome." Elle says, crossing her arms.
"Nobody says awesome anymore!" Laye yells.
"Sure they do! Right Jemma? Jemma thinks so!" Elle yells.
"Well Jemma doesn't have a say right now!" Laye barks.
"Well neither do you!" Elle yells.
"That doesn't even make any sense!" Laye yells.
"Neither does your face!" Elle replies.
I let out a chuckle, but quickly cover my mouth with my hands. Laye starts laughing, too. Then Elle. The whole room was filled with roaring laughter.
Char, a woman of great seriousness, stands behind the wooden doors. The only thing that was blocking her from a normal life, was right there. She looks at the floor, and smiles.
"Those three will go through some troubled times." she whispers to herself, and walks away, her heels clacking against the tile floor.
