Chapter 4: Carter
Carter watched Erika walk away with Zayne under his umbrella. She even flashed a smile at him.
Zayne. The little pain was the one stopping him from claiming Erika as his own.
He loved her. He loved her because... because...
Pah! He spat mentally. He loved her, and that was enough.
He hated Zayne. Hated the obstacle, the only thing standing in his way towards his happiness.
Klarissa told him that Zayne had "problems". Specifically, problems with his family, causing antisocial problems.
Klarissa had spyed on Erika's conversation with Ms. Troner. Personally, she liked to call her Ms. Droner.
Klarissa had gave him this information in exchange for a kiss. Carter had grudingly obliged, but only because he could get at Zayne.
Pah. Girls and their obsessions.
He walked back home, glowering at the rain and his umbrella. He had planned to offer his umbrella to Erika, but Zayne got to her first.
Is this a competition now, huh? Carter scoffed. Bring it on, Zayne Arensp
.
He would do amything for Erika. He deserved his happy ending.
Carter openes the door to his home. "Mom, I'm home!"
He was met with an empty silence. Of course his mom wasn't home. She was always away for one job or another. His dad was yet away with another girl, he supposed.
This was why he deserved his happy ending. Not Zayne.
Carter went to his room and shut the door. His dog was waiting for him on his bed.
"Finally, someone who understands me." Carter sighed. "Sam, do you know what happened at school today?"
Sam tilted his head as if waiting for an answer.
"Erika went away with Zayne when it was raining. Zayne had an umbrella and offered to bring her home or something. I saw everything." Sam licked his face, making Carter smile.
"What's worse, I had the exact same idea." Carter sighed. Sam, as if sensing his owner's depression, licked his face and did a roll, making him laugh.
That was why Carter prefered dogs to cats. They were loyal friends. He might be popular at school, but he was lonely at home. Sam was his only friend.

Another A/N: She wrote nothing (HarmonicDarkness) so it's still me
The next day when he was going to school, Carter caught a glimpse of Erika sliding into the seat next to Zayne.
He was right next to the bus- he didn't take the school bus to school- but they didn't see him. He could also see his best friend, Leo, talking to a girl next to him. He didn't notice him either.
His eyes scanned the window seats, and sae a girl waving at him. He didn't know her name.
The girl waved again, and flashed him a smile. Carter didn't know what to do, so he waved awkwardly. The girlsmiled again and turned away to talk with her friends.
The car drove away. Carter shook his head. Must be some new kid in school.
When he reached the school, he saw the girl waiting for him at the front gates.
"Hi!" She chirped, as soon as she saw him. "My name is Jane! Nice to meet you! Can I be your friend?"
Carter sucked in a breath, then slowly said, "My name is Carter."
Jane jumped up and down. "Carter McKeen? I've heard so much about you! Can you be my friend? Please?"
Carter inwardy sighed. He ignored the question and asked, "What form are you?"
"I'm an ninth grader."
Carter snorted. "Then you know nothing." He started to walk away.
Jane chased after him. "Carter! Please?" She gave him the cutest puppy eyes he's ever seen.
Carter sighed. "Fine." He started to smirk as he thought of a brilliant plan. "But you'll have to help me do something."
Jane smiled back. "Anything."
Carter grinned. "Wreck Zayne's life from me."
