3rd version point of view
Ayla wanted to celebrate her eighteenth birthday with her close family since she hasn't made any friends yet. Ayla, Anastasia and Alex returned to LA two days before Ayla's eighteenth birthday. Gerald was happy to finally have Ayla to be in one place. He also accepted Anastasia to be part of his family since Jace, father of Anastasia passed away fourteen years ago. He knew the pain of not having a father around. Anastasia felt more comfortable with Gerald as he has been around more.

Alex never went back to the dating life or fell in love again after Jace's passing. She focused more on the girls and her return of her career. Alex and Gerald have been coparenting on the girls and have a good friendship amongst each other. Gerald got married with Yasmin Wijnaldum throughout those fourteen years but didn't have any kids of their own since they felt that Ayla and Anastasia were like daughters to them. Yasmin and Alex have grew to have a friendship.

Ayla, Anastasia and Alex went to Nobu to celebrate since Ayla wanted something small. Maggie, Alex's older sister went to surprise them on Ayla's birthday.
"Did somebody order the coolest aunt/sister tonight?" She was dressed formal. They all get up and hugged Maggie "aww I missed you guys so much. These fourteen years were the most longest and worse time ever but I'm happy to see you guys again."
"I'm so happy you came." Alex told her sister "when did you came in?"
"Yesterday but I didn't want to ruin the surprise. I wanted you guys to relax and settle in calmly. But that's not my only surprise." She was smiling like she was hiding something. Landon came out. Landon is Alex's best friend. She hugged him tightly. Ayla and Anastasia were confused. "Girls this is your uncle Landon." They still didn't understand. They both brought gifts for Ayla.

Ayla heard her phone. She gets it from her bag. She smiles then Anastasia smiles. "Mom, dad and Yasmin are here. They just pulled up."
"Yeah okay." She answered "why don't you and stassie get them before our waiter comes in here." They leave. Maggie was pissed off. Landon couldn't believe it. "What? Okay yes myself, Gerald and Yasmin have been getting along pretty well. They both helped me a lot with the girls. Gerald has been around them so much."
"I never thought you would do this to yourself. To Jace." Maggie told Alex. Alex couldn't believe her own sister. "Why are you torturing yourself?"
"Maggie's right. The only thing this man has been doing to you is nothing but pain." Landon told Alex
"You know Landon, Maggie. I don't have to explain my life to neither of you. Gerald helped me that one night when I lost my husband, he helped me when you left pissed off and where were you Landon? Huh? He helped me with the girls when i wasn't mentally stable enough to be around them. After the hospital and burying my husband. Gerald and Yasmin both helped me a lot. So you both better behave because this isn't your day. This is my first born daughter eighteen birthday and you both better not ruin it for her understood." Maggie and Landon were quiet. They sat down in the chairs and waited for them to arrive.

Yasmin and Gerald came in to the room with Anastasia and Ayla. The room was quiet but they broke the silent and politely greeted everyone. Maggie and Landon didn't say anything. The gifts were in a table near the exit. They ordered there food and just sit there quietly. Anastasia started the conversation "Um dad, I mean Gerald I mean G." Since Anastasia was around with Gerald mostly and knew her father passed away she was so confused about how she wanted to name Gerald as her father or just Gerald. "Sorry it's just I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable especially you, mom and my sister." She looks at Ayla and Alex. Maggie scoffed.
"Stassie it's cool. Whatever you call me it's fine. I won't get offended or upset neither will mom or Ayla." Gerald smiled
Maggie was furious when Gerald called Anastasia the nickname that they called her "what did he called her?" She looked at Gerald pissed "did you called my niece Stassie? Alex are you going to do something about this? Like that was our name to call her."
"Maggie, she wanted to be called that way since she was thirteen so we just called her that." Alex drank another sip of water "relax please."
"No no I just can't believe this. You invite them to Ayla's birthday dinner and now he calls her our mothers name. What's next you both get married and the five of you live together like a big happy family?" Maggie was losing her mind "I thought you were way better than this Alex."
"Okay I had enough Margot! I told you when Ayla and Stassie weren't here to shut the fuck up and have some dignity! This is your first born niece eighteen birthday and she wanted to have her father here with her!" Alex was yelling and everyone was quiet "why can't you understand I've been through so much after fourteen years without my husband, Gerald and Yasmin has been there for me and the girls and I'm thankful for that. That's my respect towards them."
"Then I guess they are your family now and there's no point of me being here." She gets her bag "I'm sorry Ayla for ruining your birthday." She gets up and leaves. Landon gets up and says nothing exiting out the door.

It was just Alex, Ayla, Anastasia, Gerald and Yasmin at Nobu's. "Maybe that's it for today." Alex gets up from the table "i just need some time to think. Can you..." she was about to ask Gerald to take the girls with to his house.
"Yeah, sure just take the time you need." Gerald gives Alex the response.
"I'm sorry Ayla." She hugs Ayla them kisses her on her forehead. Her voice cracked as she said that. She gets up from the chair and leaves to her car. She turns on the car and drives off to her house.

Now it's Ayla, Anastasia, Gerald and Yasmin at Nobu's. "Mom hasn't been the same lately. Ever since we were in Australia with grandmother she has changed a lot." Anastasia said "what do you think will happen to mom?"
"You know mom is a strong person and she'll get through this just like she always does. Right dad?" Ayla asked Gerald. He never thought that Alex would go through with this.
"Yes I've know your moms. She'll get through it. And you both have me and Yasmin for anything. Why don't we go back to our place and open the gifts and cut the cake. And you both can pick a movie to watch." Gerald told them
"We can stay at your place?" Anastasia asked them as a surprise "like really stay there?"
"Yes Stassie, you both can stay there, with us. We love when you both are in our house. Remember how we played five second game? You and G would beat me and Ayla all the time." Yasmin told Anastasia "and how in monopoly Ayla would get money from all of us."
"She got that from me so there's nothing to blame her." Gerald reassured them "Yeah we have no problem of you both stay there with us."
"Okay, then we should get the gifts. I'll call the waiter to pay the check and get the cake for to go." Ayla told everyone.
"Nope im paying for the check. Ayla its your birthday so I'll treat you. You and Stassie get the cake and the gifts." Gerald told them. Anastasia and Ayla left to get the gifts and the cake in the car. "I just can't believe what shit Maggie and Landon did to Alex. Like really their own sister. She's not the same as before. Whatever happened to her in Australia wasn't good."
"How was it when you traveled to Australia to get the girls? Was she upset? Off of her norm? Changed?" Yasmin asked him "she wasn't the same as before. It hurts how the girls are seeing this."
"Yes she was all of that. It seemed that the passing from her husband did affect her a lot. She might be depressed."
"Why don't you tell Alex if the girls live with you temporarily until she gets better/used to her routine again in LA? Just talk to her and see what's wrong with her. It's like something shift in Australia."
"Yeah you're right. I don't want them to go through anything that can affect them. Especially Stassie. Ayla has been telling me that Stassie at some point cries to her sleep and can't be alone without me, you, Alex or Ayla. Ill talk to her well both of them. Don't worry baby." Gerald kisses Yasmin. "Well do anything to protect them. We love the girls like if they were ours." Gerald and Yasmin leave with Ayla and Anastasia.

Alex has depression since the moving to Australia and losing Jace was to hard on her. Maggie wasn't there on her side like she used to be. She had Gerald and Yasmin to help with the girls. She cried every night, blaming herself for killing Jace that one night.

Yasmin, Ayla, Anastasia and Gerald were at the house in Hollywood Hills. They continue celebrating Ayla's birthday. They ate cake and Ayla opened the presents. An hour later they we playing Jenga. Ayla hears her phone. She looks at it and it was a message from Alex. She gets upset "mom isn't going to my graduation."
"What? Are you sure Ayla?" Anastasia asked "this can't be mom. This isn't her."
"Stassie this is what she texted me: Ayla as much as I love you and your sister Stassie the last thing I would want to both in pain, in my pain. So it would be better for me not going to your graduation and ruining your special day like today and you both live with your father and Yasmin for a while until I get better. I don't know how long but I want to get better for you both my sweet daughters. I should go talk with mom. There has to be a mistake."
"No Ayla." Gerald stopped her from going "I know you both love your moms so much and you both hate seeing her in pain but let's give her some time alone. We all had a long day." Anastasia hugs Gerald. It's like she knew how Alex was going through. "Hey Stassie it's okay."
"I just want my mom to get better." She said in tears and sniffed.
"I never thought coming back was going to be this bad especially how aunt Maggie and uncle Landon treated her." Yasmin hugged Ayla "were so thankful for having you guys in our lives."
"Yeah, umm but why don't we clean up this mess and get some popcorn with snacks with your favorite beverages to watch the movie we rented. And we can be in pajamas while we're in the living room." Yasmin suggested. She has always been like a second mother to Anastasia and Ayla "Well get everything ready okay girls." Ayla and Anastasia leave to their shared room. Gerald and Yasmin were in the kitchen "G, it breaks my heart to see them like this. Alex needs help. Professional help before it's to late. The girls been through a lot growing up. Go and talk to Alex."
"Baby, I promise I will. The last thing I want is Stassie and Ayla crying in pain. Whatever happened to them in Australia wasn't normal. Did you see how Stassie was? She couldn't stop shaking, she cried as if she knew Alex's pain." He was beginning to worry "I'll do anything to protect them." He reassured Yasmin. They both wanted to know what happened to them. Why were they so scared?

Something happened in Australia but no one that Alex knew couldn't understand her just Anastasia and Ayla but it was to painful to talk about.
