Chapter 2

I sat at my desk in my next class as I focused on writing.  I wrote my answers on the line as I went to the next question.  It wasn't a test, just homework that we could get started on.  I got frustrated as I erased my answer and started to write again. Why is homework harder this year? A couple of girls in the back started to talk about me and I knew it.  They were my distraction and I was getting annoyed by them now. "Is Ella's dad?" one of the girls said as the other one nodded.  Once again, I had to scratch out an answer and rewrite.  Their voices were haunting in my head as I kept messing up. I dropped my pen as I held my head.  The girls kept talking as I sighed. "Why did her dad not take her when he left? Does he hate her?" the other girl asked the first one. I started to shake as I didn't understand what was going on at the moment. My hands started to get cold as ice started to coat them.  "Ella" a voice said, as I started to shake more dramatically. "Ella" the voice said again, as I heard a familiar voice. Was it dad?  "Ella, snap out of it" the voice said, as I jolted up in shock.  I looked up as I figured out that it was the teacher talking to me.  I studied her as she spoke. "Do you need to step out?"  she asked as I nodded. "Yeah, I think I should. Do you mind?" I asked, as the teacher shook her head. "No. Go right ahead" the teacher said, as I got up and started to walk out. Ritska lifted her hand as she spoke. "May I go with Ella? To make sure she's going to be ok" she asked as the teacher gave her permission. I heard Ritska get up as I started to walk out of the room, still holding my head.  A massive headache was now catching up to me as I sighed.  "Ella" Ritska said as she caught up to me. We walked together far away from the room, as I still felt a headache and the voices that spoke. "Ella, stop and talk to me" Ritska said, as she pulled on my arm.  I lifted my head up from looking at my feet as I looked at her, seeing her study me in fear. "Ella, are you ok?" she asked as I shook my head. "I don't know.  I keep" I said, as I heard the voice in my head again. "Ella" it echoed as I held my head.  Who's voice was this and what did they want?

"Ella" Ritska said as I looked at her. She looked worried as she just studied me.  I sighed as I sat on the hallway floor, my back right against the wall. "Maybe you need to cool off. Come to the bathroom with me and we can talk" she said, as she pulled me up off the floor. I walked with her, as she guided me through the hallway. Every couple of minutes, she looked back at me as she grew worry on her face.  I stopped as I heard the intercom go off as I listened. "Ella Kaginuki to the third library.  Ella Kaginuki to the third library, thank you" it said, as I looked at Ritska. "Why would the school ask you to go to your dad's office?" she asked as I shrugged. "I dunno.  Maybe they returned and didn't tell anyone" I said, as I started to hear the voice again. "Ella" it said, as I held my head again. "Maybe we should take you to the nurse. Your acting weird right now" she said, as I stood back up. "No, I'm fine.  I'm going to the library like I was told" I  said as I turned back to Ritska. "You should get back to class. I'll be fine" I said, as Ritska nodded. "Alright. Just let me know details about what happens" she said, as I nodded. "I will" I said, as I watched her walk away, heading back to class.  I looked down the hallway as I walked to the third library. I took my time, making sure the voice didn't come back.  I thought about it as I spoke. "Could it be you, Dad?" I asked, as I walked down the stairs.  I thought about the fact that it might be my dad. "But can devils do that?" I asked as I sighed.  "Ella. Your family are immortal beings, of course they can do things like that. You just need to relax" I said as I continued to walk down the stairs.  I looked ahead of me as I thought about the voice again. "Could I just be petrified that my dad is going against the rest of us?" I asked, as I heard a whisper in my head.  I couldn't recognize what it said, so I just ignored it.  "Maybe, I'm just going crazy" I said, as I found myself in front of the third library.

I looked at the familiar doors as I sighed. "It's been a very long time since anyone was called to this one" I said, as I opened the door and walked through.  Nothing looked different, it just looked a little more cleaner than last time I came here.  Books were not on the tables due to no one was studying or my dad didn't capture anyone yet.  I turned as I saw little table lamps turned off, the tables and chairs striated out.  I looked to the right as I noticed a window that wasn't there before.  It was a blue stained glass window with what looked like my dad on it. "Hmm, wonder when that was put up" I said, as I looked up at the doors. I studied the doors as I remembered where they went to. "Dad" I said, as I started to walk towards the staircase.  I slowly walked up as I heard the intercom come on outside of the library. "Ella Kaginuki to the third library" it reminded me as I sighed. "Dad must be impatient" I said, as I walked up to the door.  I took a deep breath as I thought of entering those doors.  I sighed as I lifted up a fist and knocked on the door. The air felt silent as I waited for the reply.  I sat there in fear as a familiar voice spoke. "Come in, Ella" it said through the doors as I opened it, seeing the office.

Dad was standing in front of his desk just like before. Urie stood behind him, his rose up to his nose.  Mage and Shiki sat next to each other on the same table. Shiki had his hands crossed as he rested them on the table. Mage was leaning back in his chair, with his feet up and his hands behind his head.  I didn't see Roen anywhere, which made me wonder if he was sleeping somewhere.  "Ella. What's new?" Mage asked as he caught my attention.  "Um, school. That's pretty much it" I said, as I felt weirded out.  Why do I still have that feeling.  I saw the blue sleeves of dad's uniform as he hugged me, tighter than he ever had.  I didn't return the hug, due to the bad feeling that kept increasing. "It's been so long. I missed you in the immortal world" dad said as I sighed. I pulled away from him as I looked at him. "Ella, what's wrong?" he asked as I sighed. "Sorry" I said, as I finally hugged him. "I'm not feeling good today" I lied, as I pulled away from him.  Dad sighed as he crossed his arms. "Are you overworking during school?" he asked as I sighed. "Yes. I've been working hard. This year is tough" I said, as dad sighed. "Well, take it easy. Don't get yourself stressed out" dad said as he walked away from me. I nodded as I sighed. "Alright" I said, as I felt relieved.  Barking appeared at my feet as I looked down, seeing a familiar brown and tan Pomeranian.  Roen twirled as he sat in his spot. "Now you come to see me?" I asked, as I bent down and petted him.  Roen whimpered with delight as he enjoyed the warmth of my hand.

I smiled down at him, knowing that he was comforted to see me again.  "It's been a while Ella. I've been gone for too long" dad said as he sat at his desk.  I stood up from petting Roen as I looked at him. "Yeah, it only been about three years since I last saw you" I said, with both happiness and anger.  What was the purpose of dad's return?  "Is Aaron and Max still around?" Shiki asked as I sighed.  I lowered my head as I thought to myself.  "Aaron has been going to school here and he lives with me at the Tachibana residence, like we planned before you left.  No one knows where Max went to.  He disappeared shortly after you left.  I thought he was with you in the immortal world" I explained.  The room fell quiet as Mage shifted in his seat. "Who knows where that boy ran off too. Wonder if he's still alive" he said, curious about his son.  "Mage. Your son's a rebel and he will always be" Shiki said, as I saw my dad smack his head.  Mage put all fours on the floor as he looked at Shiki. "Well, your son isn't better than mine" he said, as I sighed.  I looked down at my feet as Roen started to scratch my pant leg.  I bent down as I petted him again, trying to ignore the bicker.  Dad sighed as he slammed his fist against the desk, a sight spark of fire spit out of his finger. "ENOUGH!  I'm here to talk with my daughter and get caught up with the human world.  Ella probably would like to work some more. So can you two save the bickering for later?" he asked in a upsetting tone.  Instantly, Mage and Shiki stopped bickering.  Dad sighed as he sat in his chair.  "I'm sorry about them today, Ella" he said, as I sighed. "It's fine. No problem" I said, trying to make it look like I wasn't upset by it.

Dad sighed as he continued on with the conversation.  "Anything weird happening lately? Any vampires roaming?" he asked as I nodded. "Yes.  A vampire attacked me last night when Ritska and I were walking home.  He wanted to take me but I kinda froze him and he ended up running. He said he was out of time" I explained as I thought of that moment.  Dad nodded as I spoke then he sighed.  "I don't know why they'd be attacking.  Nesta was killed by us, so there's no other vampire king from what I known of.  Anything else happening?" he asked as I sighed.  I put my head down as I thought to myself.  Did I mention Lindo's friends to my dad?  I stayed silent as I started to stare at my feet.  "Did Lindo mention anything new on the vampires? Or the Exorcist society?" dad asked as I looked up. I might as well tell him about the limo.  I sighed before I spoke. "There's been a red colored limo around town.  It followed Ritska and I when we walked home with her friend Azuna.  Lindo said he knew the people and he said he's friends with them. But I don't know them personally" I said, as dad stared at me.  "Did Lindo give a name?" he asked as I thought to myself.  Did I just stop there, or keep telling him information?  My hands started to tremble as the thoughts kept coming.  What was he planning?  "Ella" Dad demanded as I looked up at him.  "Did he give their name?" he said as I sighed.  "Um.  He just said that their friends of his through the immortal realm.  He didn't give me a name" I said, as I felt the tension.

I looked into dad's eyes, studying them as he sighed.  "Are you lying to me Ella?" he asked, as they turned a bright green.  I studied them as I went silent.  "No. I'm not" I said, as they turned back to normal.  "Alright.  Well, we're going to keep an eye on the weird limo.  They might not be who they seemed.  How are your powers? Still wielding ice like before?" dad asked as I nodded. "Yes. I feel like my powers are getting stronger as well. I covered a vampire in ice last time I fought" I said, as I dad's eyes widened. Mage, Shiki and Urie also looked at me wide eyed.  I started to get weirded out by their stares.  "Have you been feeling well, Ella?" dad said, as he started to walk back up to me.  "Well, I've been work" I said, as he put his hand up to my forehead.  I felt his hand grow warmer as I started to get a little sleepy.  What was he doing  now?  I almost fell asleep, but I jolted awake and pulled away from him.  Steam rose from my forehead and his hand, showing the reaction to fire and ice.  "Alright. That'll be all for now" dad said, as he turned and walked away from it all.  I looked at him as I sighed. "Ok. It was nice to see you all again. Welcome back" I said, as I turned and headed for the door. I opened the door to head out as dad spoke. "Ella" he said, as I stopped in my tracks.  I peeked an eye over at him as I sighed, feeling like he was up to no good.  "I just wanted to let you know to pay attention in school. We're going to have some new students, vampire students in the building.  I want you to stay alert and protected" he said, as I nodded.  "Alright" I said, as he stopped me again. "And it might be best if you lived with me.  But seeing that you've been capable to protect this world, it's your choice. But I would rather you live with me" he said, as I sighed. "I rather stay with the Tachibana's. I can detect vampires better if I'm living with them" I said, not that I don't want to live with my dad.  Just that I don't trust him enough to.  I just wanted to go. It's getting too weird.  Dad nodded in understandment. "Alright, your dismissed.  Have a good rest of your day" he said, as I nodded. "You too" I said, as I completely shut the door and left.  I walked out of the third library as I looked up at the door. "I'm going to stop you, even if I have to kill you to do it" I said, as I walked back to class.
