[Chapter Two] Night Out

Friday, January 13th 2017
Devyn watched as Randy basically dragged her through the crowded bar. She had refused to go out with his friends, preferring to stay in and study for her marketing exam. As soon as she told Randy this, he almost immediately threatened to throw her textbook from their eighth floor hotel room window. Devyn still could have refused, but considering their obvious height difference, she chose not to test him.
“If only my father knew you brought me here.” Devyn muttered. Her dad would joke around with her, but he was too strict to handle. He was extremely overprotective of her, considering she was his first born and her younger sisters were all more than a decade younger than her.
“What’s that, princess?” She rolled her eyes at Randy’s mocking tone. Devyn glanced around him as he came to a stop in front of a table of three males and a female. She felt their eyes on her as she slipped her arm out of Randy's hand.
“Finally!” John shouted out, dramatically, “We've been waiting for you for over an hour.”
Randy rolled his eyes, “Sorry. Princess’ nose was stuck in a textbook.”
“Devyn! It's great to see you again.” John sent her a bright smile. She smiled back a fake smile, that she has perfected over the years. A smile that she used around all her dad's wrestlers.
“Nae, be a doll and get me a drink, please.” Randy put on a slight pout. Renee rolled her eyes from next to her boyfriend.
“Fine.” She got up, immediately looking at Devyn with a smile, “Come, let's get you a drink.”
Devyn was about to refuse, clearly not wanting to drink tonight, but chose not to argue.
Devyn followed close behind her, clearly not liking the crowded area. She felt so out of place in her sweatshirt and jeans compared to the nice dress that Renee had on. Randy had basically dragged her out the door as soon as she agreed to go out, not letting her change.
Renee suddenly laughed, pulling her from her thoughts, “That's not the usual look he gets from women.”
“I'm sorry?”
“You're looking at Randy like you want to rip his head off and I find it hilarious.” Renee smiled as she leaned against the bar.
“He's extremely childish and annoying, of course I want to rip his head off.” Devyn said, seriously.
Renee laughed, “Oh my god, you're great. Nothing as your dad describes you.”
Devyn knew that her dad would always talk about her to anyone that would listen. He was proud of her, but he would never mention the slight attitude and over dramatization that she had in her. Everyone would think that she was a perfect little angel until she opened her mouth and talked. She has never gotten told that she was better than her dad described her.
“My dad prefers for me to keep my mouth shut.” Devyn told her as she reached over to pick up her drink, “It saves him from having to do damage control.”
“He shouldn't have chosen Randy to be my travel partner because the damage control that he's going to have to do is too much.” She added.
“The other guys are just like him, so I wish you luck, but I'll be by your side.” Renee said with a big smile, “It's going to be great having another girl around. The guys can be such assholes sometimes.”
Devyn wanted to tell her that she didn't know how long she was going to be with them, but didn't. Renee wasn't so bad, but that's how they all are then she realized that everyone was the same.
“So how much trouble would you be in with your dad if he saw you at this bar?” Renee asked, suddenly. Renee knew how Paul viewed his daughter. He would refer to her as the perfect daughter, who has been studying to get her masters in business and marketing. He would talk about how she would never go against him and would rather focus her time on studying instead of going out. It earned her the daddy’s perfect princess nickname backstage.
“He would probably tell me that I won't work at the company.” Devyn shrugged, “Nothing new. He likes to have this perfect image for people that work at headquarters. Of course his wrestlers can do whatever they please.”
Renee huffed, “Trust me, I know how you feel.” She rolled her eyes, “My boyfriend and I got caught fooling around backstage and he got a slap on the wrist, while I got taken off air for weeks.”
Renee picked up the two beers, “We should probably get back before they come hunting us down.”
Devyn watched as Renee basically pushed herself through the crowd of people, not caring that she was being a little rough. Devyn reached out and immediately hung onto Renee’s elbow, hoping not to get stuck in the crowd.
“There you are, Nae. I was thinking that you ran out on me.” Renee placed Randy’s beer down on the table with an eye roll. She immediately grabbed Devyn’s hand, much to Devyn’s surprise, and pulled her to the other side of the booth.
“Come sit with Jon and I.” Renee immediately slid into the booth, placing herself on Jon’s lap. Devyn slowly slid into the booth next to them, feeling slightly uncomfortable, “Well because Randal is one rude fuck and won’t introduce you to everyone, I will.”
Devyn couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped her lips as Randy sent a playful glare to Renee.
“You already know John.” Renee said, making a motion towards him. Her hand moved to the guy sitting next to her boyfriend, “This is Allen, but we call him AJ. And, of course, this is my boyfriend, Jon -- there's two of them so you can just call him Ambrose or Good, whichever you prefer.”
Devyn smiled, softly, clearly not knowing what to say. These past couple of months she had been backstage enough to see some of the wrestlers work, but she had never made an effort to talk to them. Her dad would go around introducing her to his top stars or some of the wrestlers that he was closest too. She was surprised when her dad hadn’t basically introduced her to the entire locker room, considering how much love he had for all of his wrestlers.
She watched as Renee started telling the guys about her day. All of them looked her in, clearly paying attention to her. She felt out of place, something that she usually felt when she was around her dad backstage. Her dad would talk about the business with a passion and she wouldn’t understand where that passion came from. She had really tried to fall in love with the wrestling business, but she just couldn’t. Her dad had tried to train her at sixteen years old with her uncle Shawn, but it never stuck to her. She didn’t understand the passion that came with putting your body on the line as a form of entertainment.
“Princess…” Devyn suddenly looked up from her drink, seeing everyone’s eyes on her. She couldn’t help the small glare that she sent to Randy. He had a grin on his face, “See I told you that’s what she would respond to.”
“Don’t be a dick, Randal.” Renee told him with the sweetest smile. Randy rolled his eyes while Devyn sent Renee a small smile.
“So, Devyn, how’s your mom? We haven’t seen her backstage in a while.” She knew that John meant no harm with the question, but she still couldn’t help and feel upset about it. Despite Stephanie not being her biological mother, she loved Stephanie more than anything. Stephanie had raised her since she was four, despite Stephanie only being twenty years old at the time. She didn’t know any other mother other than Stephanie and she couldn’t ask for a better mother.
“She’s with my sisters at home. She prefers to work at home then to be backstage.” She lied with a small smile. She could feel Randy’s eyes on her as he clearly knew the truth. Her mother had not been backstage since the incident, knowing that it was best for everyone. Her mother was a touchy subject, considering that she had to get her lie straight. Her dad would kill her if she even let the truth slip out. The only wrestler that knew the truth was Randy and it was only because he had been there when it happened.
“Tell her to some by.” John said with a smile, “We miss her and the girls.”
Her little sisters had grown popular backstage. Everyone would always gush about how big they had gotten whenever they come to a show. They had been backstage more times than Devyn. Every once in a blue moon when her dad would get in the ring to wrestle, she would watch from ringside while they would watch from backstage with everyone else.
“I will.” Devyn muttered, despite knowing that it would be the last thing her mom would do.
~*~
Devyn laughed, loudly as Renee danced next to her. She had clearly told Renee that she couldn't dance, but with the amount of alcohol on her system, she was doing great. She knew that the guys were probably watching them from their table. Jon had refused to dance, so Renee quickly grabbed Devyn.
“How much did you have to drink?” Renee asked with a small laugh. Renee knew that she had hardly given her anything to drink. After her first margarita, Renee had given her three beers, “You're such a lightweight!”
“I've only ever had a glass of wine!” Devyn yelled back over the music. Her hoodie had been thrown over the booth, which left her in the small tank top that barely covered her midsection. She was clearly attracting male attention, but she wasn't even paying attention.
Renee could have told her to sit down, considering how bad she would feel in a couple of hours. Renee chose to let Devyn have her fun. It was clear that she didn't get out much.
“Renee, you're the best!” Devyn yelled over the music as she wrapped an arm around Renee’s shoulders, “So pretty, so fun. You're not like the rest of them!”
Renee smiled, “You're great too, Dev.”
It was then that Randy came up behind them, immediately wrapping his arm around Devyn.
“We gotta go, there's an emergency.” Randy said into her ear.
“Don't be such a party pooper, Randy.” Renee basically whined. Randy have her a stern look, making sure she knew he wasn't kidding.
Devyn looked at him, “Is my dad okay?”
Randy nodded, “He's fine. It's an emergency for me.”
Despite her tipsy state, she could see the worry in Randy. His eyes were slightly glossed over. She didn't know if it was from the slight amount of alcohol he had or if he was ready to start crying.
Without another word, she nodded, taking her hoodie from his hand.
“Bye, NaeNae!” She yelled.
“Call me tomorrow, we'll do lunch!” Renee told her. Devyn nodded before letting Randy drag her away. His arm was wrapped firmly around her waist as he basically pushed through everyone rather quickly. She could tell that he was in a rush to get out and she tried to move as fast as she could without tripping.
“Are you okay?” Devyn asked, softly as soon as they exited the bar.
Randy wanted to ignore her, but with a sigh, he answered, “Kim is in the hospital.”
Devyn immediately stopped walking at the mention of Randy’s pregnant wife. She remembered when he had shown up at her house at four in the morning to tell her dad that Kim was pregnant. He was happy, considering that they had been trying for almost a year. She remembered her dad telling her that Randy thought that Kim couldn't get pregnant, but when she finally did, he was ecstatic.
“The baby?” She asked, softly, looking up at him. Randy pressed his hand on her side, making her continue to walk.
“I don't know.” Randy muttered with a small shake of his head. He didn't want to think about it. The baby was something that they had worked for-for the longest time. He didn't know what he would do if something happened to their baby.
Devyn kept quiet as Randy helped her into the truck. Devyn didn't want to say anything that would only upset him more. She didn't want to make things worse, considering that they could already be bad. She waited for him to get into the car before asking him about something that was bothering her.
“Are the kids with her?” She asked, knowing it was his weekend with Alanna. She got along well with all his kids, especially Alanna. At Randy’s wedding, they were all basically attached to her hip. Despite being twenty four years old, it was as if she was placed with all seven kids.
Randy suddenly sped himself up, turning on the car as he clicked on the seat belt. She hardly had on her seatbelt as he sped out of the parking lot.
“Randy slow down.” She muttered, suddenly feeling as her head was spinning. She didn’t feel as tipsy as before, but she felt the sudden urge to throw up. She knew she should have taken it easy with the drinking, considering that she’s never drink more than a glass of wine. Renee just kept giving her beers, which she didn’t really think would affect her so much at the time.
Randy completely ignored her, not once, removing his foot from the gas. Devyn closed her eyes as she took deep breaths. The thought of throwing up, completely disgusted her, so she was trying her hardest to keep it inside.
It was a thirty minute drive to St. Louis. They had planned on going out with Randy’s friends then checking out of the hotel in the morning before heading to St. Louis. They were lucky that they were so close to the hospital because it would have been worse if they were in another state.
Devyn finally let out the small breath she she was holding when Randy pulled into the hospital parking lot. She didn’t know how it was possible for him to make it in only half the time that it would usually take.
She undid her seatbelt, still feeling like she was going to throw up, “I think I need an aspirin.”
“Later.” Randy pushed his door open and slammed it close after him as soon as he stepped out. Devyn slowly followed his lead, not feeling the best. She'd be lucky if she even woke up before lunch with Renee tomorrow. She was grateful that if she did end up throwing up, they were at a hospital.
“Sit.” Randy basically pushed her down into a waiting room chair.
She glared up at him, “I'm not a child, ass-”
“Devyn!” Devyn’s glare fell as she was suddenly surrounded by kids. Alanna immediately wrapped her arms around Devyn as the boys waited their turn.

“I'm sorry for your loss.” The doctor muttered, giving Randy a quick pat to the back. Randy didn't bother looking at Kim, knowing that he would only get more pissed off.
Randy only sent the doctor a small smile before moving to leave, “I'm taking Alanna with me.”
Kim rolled her eyes, “Go right ahead, Randy, she's your daughter after all.”
He wanted to continue arguing with her, considering some of the shit that she said, but chose to ignore her. He immediately turned, exiting the private room.
“Let's go, Devyn.” Devyn immediately looked up from talking to Anthony -- Kim’s youngest. Alanna ran to her father, wrapping her arms around his waist. Devyn didn't make a move towards Randy, clearly in slight shock. It had been a while since she heard him call her by her actual name. It was usually a princess because he knew how much it annoyed her.
She looked up at him with her chin just below his chest, “Do I get to come with you and Dev, daddy?”
“Yeah, baby.” Randy wrapped his arm around his daughter, feeling his anger slip out of him. At nine years old, Alanna was already almost up to his shoulder, but she still acted like his baby girl. She has always been a daddy’s girl, even after her parents’ divorce, “Devyn.”
Devyn stood up, slowly, giving Anthony a quick hug before moving to the two older boys.
“Come back to see us, Devy.” Devyn slightly cringed at the nickname Kim’s oldest gave her, “Bye Lanna!”
When she was with the kids, she was trying her hardest to stay seated and not remind herself of her nauseous feeling. Her head felt like it was pounding as it had gotten them ten times worse in the past hour that she was waiting for Randy.
Randy helped his daughter into the truck as Devyn leaned against the driver’s door with closed eyes. Randy knew that Alanna would be out like a light as soon before the car even started moving.
She could tell that Randy wasn't in the best mood but chose not to question it. She didn't want to deal with a snappy Randy, especially not with the headache she had.
She suddenly felt an arm wrap around her, “Let's get back so you can sleep.”
Devyn didn't protest as Randy led her to the passenger's side. As soon as Randy lifted her into the truck, she felt her stomach turn. Randy was lucky that he had stepped back because in two seconds Devyn had thrown up all over the concrete next to the truck. She remembered that she had tied up her hair when they were on their way to the hospital, which worked in her favor.
Her hazy eyes met his and he immediately saw that she had dirtied her sweatshirt. Without a second thought, he stepped over the vomit, moving towards her.
“I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.” Devyn looked disgusted in herself as a couple of tears ran down her face. Randy clearly looked surprised as he had never seen Devyn cry. Devyn was probably the last person that would start crying. Her father would probably cry before her.
“Hey, hey, it's okay princess.” He told her, softly as he wiped the small tears that kept falling. Devyn was too upset to scold him about the nickname, so she stayed quiet as his other hand went to the disgusting sweatshirt, “I'm going to take this off, okay? I don't want you to be sitting in it on our way to the hotel.”
Devyn let Randy slip the sweatshirt off, trying his hardest to not left the front touch her face or hair. Randy gave her the sweatshirt to wipe down her mouth. He saw her eyes move to the vomit behind him and her eyes filled with more tears.
“Princess, don't worry about it, okay?” Randy muttered, “It happens to everyone after they drink too much.”
Devyn knew that Randy wasn't using the nickname to mock her, he was using it in a comforting way. No matter how much she hated being called princess, it was never because of the nickname itself, it was because Randy mocked her with it.
He knew that he was lying to her, but it was what she needed to hear at the moment.
“I'm cold…” She said, softly. He slipped off his jacket without hesitation and placed it over her shoulders. He didn't worry at the possible frostbite that he might get for standing in 20 degree weather in nothing but a thin t-shirt.
“You okay enough to get back to the hotel?” He asked. She nodded, slowly. With a small smile, he stepped to the side, closing the passenger's door.
As soon as he got into the car, he turned to look at her. Devyn was curled up into a little ball in the passenger's seat with his jacket basically wrapped around her small body.
It was as if all his issues were pushed aside as he worried about the princess in his passenger's seat.
Tbh I know this is starting off pretty slow, but I want everyone to have a bit of background before we actually dive into the story, which will probably be really soon.
I would appreciate some feedback on this chapter if you guys want it to continue. I kind of enjoy writing this story a lot and it honestly takes up a lot of my thoughts, so a comment would be great.
