[Chapter Three] Asshole Randy

Saturday, January 14th 2017

“No, it's definitely not like him to sleep in.” Renee muttered, “He's like the first one up every morning, even when we do go out.”

Devyn took a small sip of her water. She thought back to this morning when she spotted Randy passed out on the couch with multiple bottles of beer around him. Randy would never drink himself to the point where he would pass out. It was something that Devyn was surprised about because no matter how childish he could be, he acted mature when needed. He wasn't a drinker, especially not when Alanna was around.

“Kimmy was upset last night.” Alanna said, softly from next to Renee. Devyn couldn’t help but think the worst, considering Randy’s slightly sour mood the night before. It just surprised her that he had put all his issues aside to help her out when it wasn’t his problem. She knew that Randy had a heart of gold because it showed when it came to someone in trouble, but she had never seen him act so caring.

“Do you think that Kim lost the baby?” Devyn asked Renee, softly.

Renee sighed, “I don’t even want to think about that, but if it did happen, then Randy would have definitely been heartbroken. He’s wanted another baby for so long.”

Randy loves kids, and despite his busy schedule he has always wanted more kids after Alanna. He was happy to had gotten his three step-sons, but he wanted a baby. A baby that he could watch go from a small little infant to a young adult.

“Can I get more lemonade, Dev?” Alanna asked.

“Of course, sweetheart, go ahead.” Just as Alanna had gotten up to serve herself more lemonade, Devyn’s phone vibrated on the table. She immediately saw Randy's name come up on her screen.

Renee sent Devyn a look as Devyn answered and brought the phone to her ear, “Hey, I-”

“Where the fuck is my daughter?”

Devyn glanced at the phone in confusion, clearing thinking that it wasn't Randy.

“She's with me. Why are you freaking out?” She asked, softly as Alanna sat next to Renee.

“Well, Devyn considering she was here when I went to sleep and she wasn't when I woke up, I think I have the right to be a little freaked out.” Randy rolled his eyes as he slipped on his sweatpants.

“I'm sorry, I didn't think of waking you, but she's fine with-”

“Where are you?” He asked, cutting her off rudely.

Devyn scoffed, “Maybe you should calm that attitude first.”

Devyn didn't want to lose her cool in front of Alanna because it was pretty clear that she was talking to her father. With Randy it was always difficult to not snap at him, especially when he was being a dick for no reason.

“Attitude?” He let out a dry chuckle, “How about you tell me where you are, Miss-I'm-just-going-to-run-off-with-my-daughter-without-telling-me-anything?”

Devyn took a calming breath as she turned in her chair, having her back to Renee and Alanna, “I know you had a rough night, but that doesn't give you the right to take your stupid shit-”

Devyn surprisingly cut herself off. She was known for going off on people and she was about to rip Randy a new one, but she stopped herself.

“Fuck you, Devyn.” He spat out, “Tell me where the hell you are.”

Devyn knew she shouldn't, but she pulled the phone away from her ear, ending the call.

Renee stared at her, “Did you just hang up on him?”

Devyn turned back on her chair with an annoyed look at her face, “Yes, he was being a di--jerk.”

Devyn knew Randy was going to rip her a new one when she saw him, but she would deal with that later. He didn't know how to control his emotions, something that he was never able to do. They were so much alike, which is why they were always at each other's throats.

“Maybe Kim did really lose-”

“That doesn't give him the right to be a jerk.”

Devyn watched as Renee continued to eat, clearly done making comments. She tried her hardest to pay attention to Alanna and her storytelling of her mom’s wedding. Devyn remembered her mom going to that wedding alone because her dad was too stubborn and loyal to Randy to go. It was as if Alanna didn't know that she was talking bad about her dad or she just chose to ignore it.

“Auntie Steph danced with me all night.” Alanna recalled with a smile, “Why-”

The nine year old was cut off as Devyn was suddenly grabbed by her upper arm and hauled out of her seat. Before Devyn could even make a sound, Renee glared at him.

“Randal Keith Orton.” Renee hissed, “We are in a public place.”

Alanna looked at her father with wide eyes as Randy completely ignored Renee. Alanna knew not to be scared, but it still surprised her.

“I'll be right back, I need to have a private chat with this one.” Randy muttered as Devyn started at him in annoyance. She had a huge attitude problem and she knew that, but she also knew when to stop herself from snapping. They were in a public cafe, surrounded by at least a dozen people.

Renee gave him a wtf look, “Do you not realize that you are basically traumatizing your daughter at this moment?”

Randy rolled his eyes, “She knows I mean no harm. Right, Lanna?”

Alanna didn't hesitate sending Renee a toothy smile, “Daddy would never hurt anyone on purpose.”

Randy sent his daughter a small grin, despite being ready to rip Devyn’s head off. Devyn didn't make an effort to stop him as he basically dragged her to the exit. She cringed as the cold air hit her through her thin sweater.

“I don't know who gave you the right to talk to me like shit and drag me out of that restaurant like a fucking rag doll, but if you ever-”

“I don't wanna hear your petty threats, princess.” Randy said, cutting her off, “My daughter was out with you and you didn't even tell me. I don't need to be dealing with this shit, I have too much going on.”

“You act like you're the only one with shit going on.” Devyn mumbled, rolling her eyes.

“Really?” Randy questioned, “Did you just lose a child? Are you fighting with your significant other because of the loss of this child?”

Devyn stared at him, not knowing what to say. She had suspected that it had happened, but she certainly didn't expect Randy to say something. Randy was an extremely private person, even with his friends. He didn't like bringing his problems up because he preferred to keep everything to himself.

“Randy-”

“I didn't fucking think so.” Randy spat out, “Look, I agreed to be your stupid travel partner as a favor for my best friend. I certainly don't need to be feeling like I'm babysitting you.”

“Who said anything about babysitting? You're basically pulling all of this out of your ass.”

“Really? So you weren't throwing up all over the concrete because you had too much to drink?” Randy asked, “I don't know if you remember who carried you and my daughter up to the room last night.”

“You know what? I actually don't remember asking you to do it.” She retorted with a glare.

Randy glared back at her, clearly not wanting to let her know that she won the argument. He was extremely stressed out. Kim’s oldest son kept texting him about what was happening and it certainly wasn't helping him. Kim had chosen to blame Randy for the miscarriage -- telling him that it was his fault for not being around as often. Despite Kim being a huge fan of his work at the beginning, her pregnancy made her think entirely different of his job. She started to realize how often he wasn't around, especially now when Paul needed him to start taking on a backstage roll.

“Just thought you should know that I won't be traveling with you anymore.” Randy told her after a couple of seconds. Allen had told him that it was unethical to just ditch her, considering her sleeping issues, but Randy didn't care.

“Should I be acting like I give a fuck?” She questioned with raised eyebrows. She clearly didn't care that Randy wasn't traveling with her. Despite what her dad kept telling her, she knew her limits and could definitely travel alone.

“You should, considering that I checked out of our room and left your luggage in the hallway in front of our room.” He said, casually. Devyn couldn't stop her mouth from dropping open in shock. At first she didn't know if he was joking, but when she saw that his serious expression didn't change, her anger took over.

“You stupid dick, I have important stuff in those bags!” Devyn basically yelled out. She didn't care if they were standing on a busy sidewalk arguing like two crazy people. Randy had crossed the line so bad, she was ready to lose it on him.

Randy shrugged, “Not really my problem, princess.”

She was basically shaking in anger and was ready to slap the taste out of his mouth, but her concern was her stuff.

With a shove to his chest, she spat out, “Fuck you.”

She was lucky that Renee had chosen a cafe close to the hotel.

“Oh thank god.” Devyn sighed out in relief as she stepped off the elevator and saw all her bags in front of the door. She immediately walked towards her stuff. She was happy that she had all her bags, but one item kept coming into her head, making her worry.

She fell to her knees in front of her small carry-on, where she usually stuffed it. She woke up this morning with a throbbing headache, but she had still remembered to throw it into her bag.

“Where the fuck is it?” She muttered, throwing all her makeup and essentials out of the bag. She looked for the pink colored fabric as tears of frustration gathered in her eyes.

With a small cry, she tossed her bag to the side, clearly upset that it wasn't in the bag. Her shaky hand reached towards her phone before dialing the one number that she had on speed dial.

The call was immediately answered as she bought the phone to her ear.

“Daddy.”

Paul groaned, softly as he told his assistant to led the group ahead. He still walked behind him as he listened to his daughter’s small cries.

“What is it, Dev? I'm about to step into a meeting.” Paul told her, quietly. He clearly knew she was upset and he wanted to help, but this meeting was extremely important.

“Daddy, Randy-”

Paul immediately interrupted her, “Devyn, really? I do not have time to listen to the stupid thing that Randy did this time. Get over it, please.”

Paul felt a hand on his arm as he was about to enter the meeting room.

“Paul.” She smiled, brightly, “Long time no see.”

Devyn felt her stomach drop as she heard her voice.

Her lips curled up, despite the pain that she was feeling, “Of course, I'll just get over it, Paul. Don't you worry about me, please go back to pleasing your skank.”

She heard her father call out her name before she ended the call.

“Take no offense to this, girly, but you look like shit.” Renee laughed as Devyn sent her a small glare.

“Want your makeup done, too, Devy? Those dark circles look terrible.”

“I'm not the one going on national television.” Devyn tried her best to smile. Devyn watched as she smiled back before going back to Renee’s makeup.

“So how much sleep have you been getting?” Renee asked.

Devyn tried to think back to the past three nights. She had been lucky that all three live events were in one state, giving her time to sleep. Even with that extra time, she would hardly be able to close her eyes before her anxiety took over. Her dad would probably scold her if he knew that she had let her thoughts take over her sleep. At the thought of her dad, she felt disgusted and hurt.

Renee laughed, “What's with the face? It's not a lot?”

Devyn shrugged, “Sleep doesn't come easy to me. Never really has.”

Renee frowned, slightly, “Listen, Devyn, if you need someone to travel with -- I'm here. I would definitely not be your father's first choice, but I'll be glad to help.”

“Oh, Renee, no. I'm completely fine.” Devyn said with a small shake of her head, “Besides, you're traveling with your boyfriend and I don't want to get between all that.”

“It's not like it matters. I want girl time and Jon can travel with anyone of his friends.” Renee said with a smile, “Now agree to be my travel partner so we can get the fun started.”

Devyn smiled. She hoped that traveling with Renee would help bring her some sleep. The main reason for the loss of sleep was her missing item, but it was also because she was alone. She didn't like not having someone around while she slept because it just spiked up her anxiety.

“Okay, but no more drinking.” Devyn told her.

Renee pouted, “A glass of wine a night.”

“Deal, but only one.”

“Pinky promise.” Renee happily jumped off the makeup chair. Her arms immediately wrapping around Devyn, “We are going to have so much fun!”

Devyn didn't know how she had taken such a liking to Renee. She was different from a lot of the people that hung around backstage. It made her feel better about being backstage before a show.

“Hey, princess.”

Devyn pulled away from Renee to see Randy walking towards them.

“I think you might be missing something.” She watched as Randy reached into his sweatpants pocket and pulled out a pink fabric. The pink blanket that helped her sleep at night, “I have no clue how it ended up in my luggage.”

Devyn could see right through Randy’s lie as a small grin came to his face.

He held the blanket up and took a good look at it, “I'm surprised you still have it, princess. Its great to know my gift was put to good use.”

Devyn remembered her twelfth birthday. It was the first time that her dad introduced Randy to their family. She had basically fallen in love with Randy when he had given her the pink blanket with a princess crown. As her hate had grown for him over the years, she has tried multiple times to get rid of it, but she realized that she couldn't sleep without it. It was something that Randy knew, so as she watched him with her blanket, her anger rose. She couldn't sleep because of the stupid thing and he had it the entire time.

In two steps, Devyn was able to rip the blanket away from him and just as she was about to slap him, she was stopped.

“Devyn, my office now.” Her father's voice held no room for argument, “You too, Orton.”

I would really appreciate feedback on this story. I feel like this story has potential, but it would be nice to have a second opinion.
