//Chapter Two// - Acceptance
{Beginning Note}
Wow, I haven't successfully written this many chapters of a published story of mine in a while. Been a few years since I got this far. Believe me, I'm dissatisfied with myself, too. But hopefully the book itself makes up for that.

Chapter Two - Acceptance
—
After reaching within the mailbox, you slid out the many pieces of parchment all enlaced in envelopes, each and every one of them from a different address, usually a bank, housing company, or some notice for an insurance policy. Your fingers laced through them one by one, '(Mother's Name) (L/n),' '(Mother's Name) (L/n),' and once again, '(Mother's Name) (L/n).'
Sighing, you began walking towards your front door, mail in hand, and sifting down to the last letter, your broken pack swaying along your back. Though, almost choking, your toes digging into the lawn of your front yard, eyes wide and breath hitching, a soon enough pit sinking deep into your stomach and down to your feet; you were staring right at the official U.A High School seal, with your name printed on the front cover.
There it was, practically your whole fate, inked and fresh off the press, held within your grasp, awaiting your gaze to admission or rejection. Just staring, you held up your house key from your pocket to the door lock, twisted, and entered your abode, biting at your bottom lip, as you knew as soon as you opened that letter, a new world would wrap itself around you, or your current one would come clashing down in shattered pieces.
You stalked warily into the kitchen, removing your gaze from the envelope to look around for your Mother, in hopes to find her and give her the mail you collected in her name. Fortunately for you, standing directly in your line of sight, was your Mother, washing and drying dishes used from the past week; her (h/c) hair (tied/pulled) back to keep out of her face and eyes as she cleaned, eyebrows slightly furrowed as she scrubbed brashly at a somewhat stained plate.
"Hey, honey! How was school? Did you pass that Algebra test that you were complaining about last night?" She laughed, drying off the utensil in her hand and beginning to wash another, her eyes fixating now on you with a teasing smile.
You couldn't help but grin with a small roll of your eyes and you shook your head, taking a few more lingering steps into the kitchen. "No, not yet. Mr. Tōjitsu said we'll have our results by tomorrow during class, but if he didn't, that he would E-Mail them to us through the school webpage." You admitted frankly, allowing your backpack to slide off of your shoulder and flatten onto the wooden floor, your notebooks and binder making a loud 'fwap' as it hit. You then sat down on one of the stools resting by the bar behind your Mother, the mail belonging to her sliding halfway across the countertop. "I got the mail, though, before I walked in. It's your agency again." You explained remorsefully, a small from forming across your lips.
Letting out a light scowl, she cursed under her breath and put down the cup she just dried and hung the rag she was using over the sink's faucet, as she turned your way and picked up the letters you had referred to just then. "Of course.." she hissed, "all they want is to take more money, and I say to Hell with it!" She shouted angrily, dumping all three pieces of paper into the recycle bin below her feet. She then huffed a light breath, before calming and giving a content look, and eyeing your application response. "So?"
You piqued a brow, now confused, and hugging your arms gently around you in a slight discomfort. "So, what?" You inquired, attempting to pull the letter in your hand down beneath the countertop.
But, your Mother was too quick for you, and snatched right from your fingers and grinned widely, reading over the front of the now slightly crinkled envelope. "Hey, no fair! Don't read it!" You cried joshingly, reaching out for it weakly. "I don't wanna know what it says!"
Your Mother gave you a firm look of complete disbelief. "What? Why not? You've been stressing about this letter for weeks, shouldn't you be excited to see if you got in?" She quizzed intently, still holding it away from your clutches; the classic Mother procedure.
Roughly shaking your head back and forth, you slammed your head against the polished stone countertop, and then continued to drag your forehead from left to right in desperation. "No.. Mom, if I don't get in, it isn't really that big a deal," you bit your tongue. "Well, not really, it'd be a big deal actually, since it'd be, y'know, amazing, but.." you trailed off, actually rather embarrassed to admit it, but knew it was the entire reason you even thought you might fit in at U.A. "I only wanna go if Eijiro is accepted, too.. since I wouldn't even have applied if it weren't for him."You stated truthfully, slowly lifting your head and looking your Mom directly in the eyes, a clear wanting and desire in your voice as you explained your position. "I don't wanna go if he's rejected and I'm not, and I'd be happy for him if he get's accepted and goes without me, but.. honestly, though it sounds kinda selfish when I say it out loud... I don't want him to move on without me. He's my only friend I've got." You finalized, slightly pouting your lip in exaggeration to your saddening point.
Taking a quiet moment to recognize your struggle and worry, your Mother just smiled softly and began opening the letter, despite your previous pleas, and released that one Mom sigh that means she knows what's up. "If that's the case.. then I say find out where you stand first, before he tells you if he made it or not. So if you both get it, then you won't have to worry about it; but if either of the two worse options happens, you'll be prepared to make adjustments." She claimed, her thumbnail now slicing through the crease of then envelope and taking out the contents.
You hitched your breath and reached out more seriously this time, but to no avail, she stepped back out of the danger zone. "Wait, wait! I don't wanna hear if I failed or not!" You frowned, biting the inside of your cheek as you clasped the palms of your hands over your ears and your fingers interlacing with some strands of your hair and clung to the back of your neck.
It only took a few moments of anticlimactic silence for your Mother to chuckle and slap the information slip onto the countertop extravagantly. "Well, then I guess you'd be disappointed to hear that you succeeded?" She asked, sarcastically, an amused, yet proud, smirk tugging at the corner of her lips.
Removing your hands, you furrowed your brows, only opening one eye to glance over at your snarky, beaming Mother, "Wait, what?" You confirmed, rushing to pick up the paper and skim over the contents yourself, and thus, confirming the truth brought upon by your Mother's words.
'Dear (Y/n) (L/n),
Congratulations! For more information, please watch this short word from our faculty to revise visitation times to pick up your schedule and any supplies you may need for your first year at U.A. High's Hero Course classes and offerings.
We look forwards to seeing you in class, Miss (L/n)! See you this April 5th!
~Yours Truly, Principal Nezu
Eyes wide, almost tearing up, a grin replaced your once worried frown as you launched up from the stool you were previously occupying, and waved the paper in the air before hugging it and jumping up and down. Taking note of the small device resting on the countertop, you made note to watch it later in your room before you fell asleep. You were so overrun with joy that you, even with your Quirk, were able to make it in, and the Hero Course no less, that you completely drowned out the before thoughts that you could have to give this up, if Eijiro's letter stated the opposite for him.
"I did it, Mom! I got into U.A! I really did!" You laughed aloud, still in the state of overwhelming shock to even restrain your volume. "Ha, ha! Hero Course, here I come! Future Pro coming in on a bullet train, baby!" You exclaimed, your jaw now aching due to the widening of your grin.
"I knew you'd make it, Sweetie!" Your Mother claimed, pulling you in for a tight embrace, her cheek now nuzzling against the top of your temple. "You just had to see that you have just as much potential as even All Might did when he was your age; you gotta stop doubting yourself." She proclaimed sweetly, releasing you as you smiled up at her, tears brimming the edges of your eyes.
"Thanks, Mom..." you set the parchment down, before rushing to your phone and grabbing it, scrolling through your recent contacts to find the onyx-haired boy's name you were searching for. "I've gotta call Eijiro and ask if he opened his letter yet! Or, well.. if his was even delivered yet, that is—"
Before you could finish, a booming, spastic knocking came from your front door, causing you to practically drop your phone into the countertop. Immediately figuring that you knew who it was, you strode over and clasped the doorknob with your right hand and pulled the door open, revealing the teenage boy you had just mentioned previously.
You could only tell by the fluttering paper in his hand, loss of breath and full-hearted smile plastered to his face that he had good news to deliver.
"I made it, (Y/n)! I'm gonna be a Hero!"

{Ending Note}
Alright, satisfying enough for now, I hope? I know I promised this chapter to a friend of mine about a whole month ago, and it's really late, but I didn't know how I wanted this chapter to end just now, so... it's out and published for y'all! Hope you enjoyed, and no promises, but I'll try and not leave you on another cliffhanger for a month next time, haha.
