Chapter 35
Weeks had passed until Stevie and Lindsey had said a word to each other. The kids could sense the tension between them."
"Mommy, why aren't you speaking to daddy?" Evie asked seeing her father was once again out
"You're too young to understand, Evie," she replied, continuing to fix lunch for them
"Why isn't the pretty lady allowed inside?"
"She kissed Daddy, okay?"
"Why? Isn't that your job?" Evie said confused
"That's why we are fighting."
"But he still sees her, why? If it makes you mad?"
"He's angry with Mommy."
"That's mean...is he with her now?"
"I don't know..."
Evie nodded and then climbed into bed, snuggling down and receiving a hug and kiss from her mother
"Take a nap, sweet girl. Lunch will be ready soon."
"Okay, see you later mommy"
Stevie chuckled, hearing the door open and Lindsey walking through to the kitchen
"Hi Lindsey..." she tried
"Hey," Lindsey nodded
"How is Rose?"
"She's great"
"David and Andrew are sick and I think Evie is coming down with it too. Thank you for caring," she spat
"Stevie, can you stop being a bitch for five minuets?"
"Can you stop seeing Rose?" She replied
"Why should I?"
"Because we are getting married! Because you love me! Because you should respect me! Because we have a family together!"
"What if I love her?"
"Do you...?"
"I'm going for a shower..." he pushed past her
"You do love her."
"Get off my case Stevie!"
Evie came in and pushed Lindsey, "Leave her alone!"
"Will you stop always defending her!"
"You're mean! I hate you!"
"Yeah? Well I hate you too!"
Stevie walked up to him and slapped him as hard as she could
She'd slapped him that hard it had popped his lip, blood running down his chin
"Don't you ever speak to my daughter that way again, do you hear me?" She seethed
"She's my daughter too!" He wiped his mouth
"Not anymore, you're leaving."
"No anymore? She's my child, you can't just say not anymore!"
"You can't treat us like this! You choose either us or Rose."
"If she's not my kid anymore, why don't you tell her hmm!"
"Lindsey, you need to choose. I'm not telling her anything."
"No! Go on! Tell her the truth, if I'm leaving"
"Lindsey, I am not traumatizing her. Calm down."
"I'm going for that shower!"
Stevie picked up Evie, carrying her over to the bed. "It's alright, sweet girl."
"I shouldn't of said I hated him! I didn't mean it! But he did!" She cried
"Shh, it's okay! I love you!"
"I love you too!"
Eventually Evie knocked herself out from crying so much, Stevie finally laying her down where she slept peacefully
Stevie scooped up David and Andrew, taking them into the kitchen to give them their medicine.
"Mommys big boys going to get better hmm?" She spooned them the medicine, then heard Lindsey coming down the stairs
She was struggling to hold them and give them their medication at the same time
"Come to daddy" Lindsey took David from Stevie's arms, getting him to finish the spoon full
"Go put him down to sleep. He didn't get any last night," Stevie avoided his eyes
Without saying anything he walked to Davids room, placing him gently down with a kiss on the forehead before pulling the door too
Stevie was in the living room rocking the baby to sleep
Lindsey sat down on the chair opposite her, still not saying a world
"You should leave while they're asleep."
"She's pregnant"
"What?"
"She's pregnant, it's why I'm helping her"
"Is it yours?"
"Stevie..." he tipped his head back
"Answer. Me."
"I've stayed loyal to you, since I first met you..."
"That doesn't answer my question. Just say yes or no."
"I think it does, doesn't it?"
"If you are lying that this baby isn't yours I will never speak to you again."
"Do you have that little amount of trust in me?" He said almost disgusted
"With the way you've been acting...yes."
"Have you looked at yourself?" He tried to say as nicely as possible
"More than you think..."
"You've pushed me away completely...I don't even know if I want to marry you anymore"
"I don't like the person that you've become."
"I don't either, and I can't help how I turned out after everything, hearing my own daughter call me by my birth name broke my heart!"
"And being left alone to take care of three kids for weeks broke mine."
"Stevie, you accused me of killing my own child! Do you fail to understand that?!" He got agitated
"And this is what I'm talking about. You are so short tempered."
"Because I'm always the one in the wrong! I've fucked up so much with you and the kids over the years, I blame myself for enough already, I don't need you putting more on me!"
"I'm sorry!"
"You should be! I already feel like a shit father, I hate you putting every single thing on me! It isn't fair!" He cried
Stevie handed Andrew to him and stomped out the door
"Oh Andrew...I'm sorry daddy is such a failure, but I do love you..." he cooed to his son
He realized that he had barely spent anytime with Andrew
"You don't even realise who I am do you?" He said sadly, feeling Andrew trying to wiggle out of his arms
David came toddling in, he had just started walking on his own
"Oh baby! When did you start walking?" He said tearing up
David saw Lindsey and stopped, pulling a face and walking up to him. "Ma ma?"
"No, it's dada..." he bent down still holding Andrew
"Da da?"
"Yeah...it's daddy!" He smiled
David held up his arms, wanting to he held
Moving Andrew to the other hip, he lifted David up to him
His boys snuggled into him, falling asleep quickly
Lindsey sat down on the sofa and wondered at his two sons, Andrew was already looking like Stevie, and David looked like his mother
Evie came in an hour later, "Mommy?" She cried, "I had a bad dream again."
"Baby...come to daddy, I'll give you cuddles" Lindsey tried holding his arm out
Evie back away from him, shutting herself in the bedroom
"Sweetheart...I'm so sorry for what I said...I don't hate you, please say you don't hate me" he called through the door
"I do hate you because you hurt mommy! I hate you!"
"Baby please don't say that" he cried
"You're going to be some other stupid baby's daddy..."
"What are you talking about?"
"I heard you..."
"I'm not that baby's daddy Evie..."
"But you're not here because you are with her..."
"I'm helping her out, just like I helped your mommy when she was pregnant with you"
"But we miss you. Mommy cries at night when you aren't here..."
"Mommy cries...?"
"All the time. Especially when David and Andrew cry."
"I'll try and be better, I promise Evie..."
"Please stay home."
"Okay baby, now come to daddy?"
She opened the door slightly, peaking around to look at him, "I want Mommy."
"Baby, please...?" He begged
"Later."
Lindsey let a tear fall and decided to walk away , he felt like he'd just blown it with Evie
She went into the kitchen and grabbed a snack, retreating to the couch with her brothers
Lindsey decided he needed some air so he went outside into the yard, he breathed once and fell to his knees, sobbing
Lindsey hated how he talked to Evie. He told her that he hated her! And how he talked to Stevie....
He was a horrible person, and he felt like he didn't deserve his family anymore
David didn't even seem to hardly remember him and he knew that Andrew had no clue who he was
His mind went to thoughts of just vanishing, maybe Stevie and the kids would hurt less then
Maybe that would be his plan...
He saw Stevie through the window sitting with the kids, so he went round the side of the house and up with stairs to the bedroom
He heard Stevie say something to the kids about marriage that caught his attention.
"Mommy is marrying a man that will take care of all four of us! I promise you'll like him!"
Lindsey's heart stopped, what man...he had questions and was frightened off the answer, but listened in anyway
"Who is he?" Evie asked
"I used to work with him! His name is Charlie!"
Lindsey tried to cast his mind back, who the hell was Charlie?
He had never heard Stevie mention that name before
Packing a suitcase he walked with it to the bottom of the stairs, catching Stevie's attention
"Bye, Lindsey."
"Are you serious?" He asked putting his case down
"What?"
"Come here" he beckoned with his finger
Stevie carefully approached him
Bending down and holding the back of her thighs, he lifted her up
"What are you doing? The kids are right in front of us!"
Moving her to the side out of sight he placed her back against the wall
"Lindsey. What are you doing?" She whispered harshly
"Who's Charlie?"
"None of your business. All you have to worry about is that he won't hurt the kids, which he won't."
"And I will?" He asked
"You yelled at Evie and said that you hated her. Your temper is so irrational and out of control that I don't know what you will do. Now put me down."
He leaned forwards and kissed her as sweetly as he could
"Lindsey, I'm really down this time," she turned her head away
"I'm never going to see you again, you can't even kiss me?"
"No...."
