Chapter 8

~A/N~

It's adorable how everyone thinks Liam is the Hero.. hehe enjoy! :D

*******

How long could people go without breathing? Seriously, this is getting ridiculous. I never thought kissing could be so entertaining, that you literally can't stop for a second to take a breath. Now when I think about it though...

"Nora?"

I snapped out of my thoughts and finally looked away from Nick and Ruby, to look at Liam. He was still standing really close to me, observing my face as I observed the owners of the poor pair of lungs.

"Hm?" I said, licking my lips in order to hide my nervousness. Why the hell was I nervous though? I wasn't going to kiss him for any purpose other than to make Dominick jealous. That is, if he doesn't die from lack of air.

"You okay?" Liam asked, tilting his head to the side, purposely leaning toward me. I stayed in place; I had to do it. I couldn't chicken out, so I just nodded, answering his question.

"Okay," He muttered, looking down for a second, before looking back up at me. And just like a few minutes ago, I almost got a heart attack again, when his face got a little too close to mine, again. It was pretty obvious he was expecting me to do something, since I dragged him in the middle of a room and stood unnaturally close to him.

He was right about expecting that. Because I was going to kiss him. Yep.

Relax Sal, the voice inside my head said, making me let out a small sigh. It's just a kiss. It's not like you've never kissed a guy you haven't had feelings for.

I nodded to myself, listening to the person in my head, and took a step closer to Liam, if that was even possible. When he noticed me moving, he stood straighter, but didn't really look like he knew what to do with himself; I heard him mumble a barely audible 'um' as he made weird gestures with his arms, obviously not knowing what to do and where to put them. Eventually, a few seconds later, he hesitantly put them on my waist.

I was aware that that was a good thing, but I didn't know why I wasn't feeling like it wasn't. Maybe that's just how much I didn't like Liam.

I stared at my feet for several seconds, before slowly looking up at him. When our eyes met, I felt my stomach do weird backflips; like something wasn't right. I mean, of course it wasn't right, I was going to kiss a guy that I don't even like.

Jesus, even that thought didn't feel right. Not the part where I was going to kiss a guy... But the one where I didn't like the guy. For some reason, it didn't feel right to think that. To think that I didn't like Liam.

I took a deep breath; I was obviously going nuts because of all of this. I might as well get it over with.

Kind of shakily, my hands found Liam's cheeks, and while he shouldn't have, he widened his eyes in shock. He quickly collected himself though, when I stood on my tiptoes, making myself as tall as him, and leaned slightly forward.

Our faces were just like a couple of minutes before, only this time, Liam was the frozen one. I wish he wasn't though; I wish he would just lean an inch forward, and begin this already. Or should I say, end it.

Just as I'd started leaning forward, I thought about how it would feel to kiss him. I didn't want to believe it, but I didn't think Dominick and his possible jealousy would be the only thing in my head if I kissed the boy in front of me. I was almost sure I'd feel something; and I was afraid that it wouldn't be a bad feeling.

Liam leaned toward me, not enough to connect our lips though; only our foreheads. My eyes fluttered closed, and my breathing became heavy for some reason. I would have loved to be able to say something like "What the fuck is going on with me?" again, but sadly, this time I knew exactly what was off.

I couldn't kiss him... Because I cared about him. And his stupid feelings.

Just as the words crossed my mind, I noticed Liam pull away a little. Oh good, I thought, maybe he feels about this the sa-

Nope, that wasn't the case; turns out he pulled away so he could lean his head to the side, and finally kiss me. And there I went, turning my cheek again. I officially hated myself.

"What's wrong now?" I heard him mumble, but even then I could tell he was getting frustrated about what I was doing. Way to go, Nora.

"No," I muttered, unsure if he'd heard me. "I can't do this," I said louder, and started pulling away. I needed to get out of there before something stupid happened.

Sadly, Liam had other things in mind; just as I'd gotten out of his arms, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me back to him, lifting my chin up so I'd look at him. "You need to stop doing this," He said with a nervous chuckle, but I only shook my head, and pulled myself out of his arms again. Unsuccessfully, again.

"Liam," I whined, as my eyes met his. To my surprise, he had a smile on his face.

"Relax, love," He said slowly, making sure I heard every syllable of the two words. Before I could say anything, his lips found my neck. God dammit.

"No," I breathed out again, but closed my eyes, despite myself. He definitely knew what he was doing.

Just yesterday, I was thinking about how much I hated Liam while throwing darts. How much he got on my nerves by thinking that I was into him, and by not leaving me alone whenever he saw me. How my friends were the most annoying little shits I've ever met, telling me, no, convincing me that I had feelings for a guy whose guts I hated.

And now I was letting that very guy kiss my neck, while thinking that my friends could be right.

It was that thought that made me open my eyes, and widen them; no, I thought, this isn't happening. I'm not questioning my feelings for Liam. I might not hate him, but I don't... No.

My hands quickly slid down to Liam's chest and I pushed him away, failing after my first attempt, but then I put all of my strength into pushing him away the second time. It worked; he stumbled back, a flabbergasted look on his face, as I ran out of the house. I could hear him yelling 'Nora' over and over again, but I didn't look back. I couldn't.

I ran until I reached the short gate, and gripped it while leaning forward, looking like I was going to throw up. I might as well do that, I thought.

The possibility of having feelings for Liam, was definitely not something I was expecting to think of while trying to make Dominick, my long time crush, jealous. How could simply standing in front of a guy turn into questioning your life? Especially when that guy didn't even do anything?

I didn't even realize how cold I was getting until I felt something being put on my shoulders, and I hastily turned around, thinking Liam found me. Though I let out a sigh of relief when I noticed Briana, wrapping my jacket around me.

"You alright?" She asked as she walked over to lean on the gate beside me as well. I wanted to say yes, but I found myself shaking my head. "Is it because of Liam?" Briana continued asking, and now I could hear the smile on her face as she spoke. She'd been waiting on this her whole life, hadn't she?

Even though I rolled my eyes, I nodded, answering her question. There was no point in lying to her anyway.

"You'd be taking it easier if you'd realized earlier," She said, like she knew what I was thinking about, what was bothering me.

Now I was shaking my head. "No," I said stubbornly, standing straighter. "No, I don't... Briana, I don't have feelings for him."

"There's no need to lie to yourself now, you know," Bri said through a chuckle, though my reaction was completely opposite of hers; I let out a shaky breath, feeling like I was going to start crying any second now. Because there was a slight chance she was right, and I didn't like that. I hated it. I hated myself for it.

"Did you see Adelaide?" I asked, changing the subject so I really wouldn't burst into a crying fit.

"Um, yeah, I was talking to her when I saw you run out of the house," Briana said slowly, a little surprised by my question.

I nodded. "Could you tell her happy birthday from me?"

"Okay-"

"And get me an energy drink, please? I think I might fall."

"W-We'll leave if you want to," My best friend said quickly; she was never fond of my love for energy drinks. I thought it was a good replacement for coffee, better than coffee even; it tasted good, and wasn't that bad for your teeth. Win-win.

"Alright, but I still want that energy drink." I smirked, liking her idea of leaving. The music was becoming too loud for me anyway, and there were far too many people I didn't want to face.

"Sally, you know-"

"Just get me that drink, Briana!"

"Alright!" She yelled, before marching toward the house. When Briana was against something, she was against it with a burning passion; there was no middle. It would often get very frustrating when a person wanted to be a little rebellious, and, for example, have a damn energy drink. She was almost worse than my mother.

"Here you go," I heard her say a few minutes later, and handed me a can. And even though it was an energy drink, I widened my eyes at the can.

"Red Bull? Do you want me to fucking die?" I exclaimed. I did like the little happiness-boosters, but I had my limits. And Red Bull was one of them.

"That's all they had," Briana mumbled, before opening the gate and crossing the street to get to her car, not even waiting for me. I shrugged to myself and opened the can, taking a large gulp. If this doesn't lift my mood up and make me forget about Liam and my possible feelings for him... I don't know what will.

*******

"Could you leave me here?" I asked, jumping a little in my seat.

"What?" Briana said, confused. "But you'll have to walk for another 20 minutes to get home."

"I know, I know," I said, almost interrupting her. "I need to get some of this energy out of myself, or my parents might suspect something."

Briana stared in front of her for a few seconds, and then nodded. "Okay. I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?" She asked, parking her car a few seconds later so I'd get out.

I was just about to say yeah, but then I thought about it; if I visited her at work, Liam might be there... "You know what, I'm probably gonna be up all night, so... I'll come by if I don't wake up too late. Thanks, bye!" I opened the door and walked out before she could say anything, and waved at her confused face. To be fair, I did ask to leave quite abruptly.

I just couldn't control it anymore; as soon as Briana's car disappeared from my sight a minute later, I ran across the street and kicked a trash can as hard as I could, ignoring the numbness that occurred in my foot a second later. The energy drink didn't make my rage disappear; it just made me become infuriated on a whole new level.

I was just so angry with myself. First, I invited Liam to be my date at a party. Then, I made an absolute fool of myself by holding his hand, having my arm around him, sitting in his lap, letting him kiss my neck and trying to kiss him. And all the while, I didn't realize he had feelings for me.

But that wasn't the worst part, oh no; the worst part is that I didn't realize I might be having feelings for him as well.

How could this happen to me? All this time I was completely sure I hated him, and now these godforsaken butterflies started appearing in my stomach whenever I thought about him, ever since I almost kissed him. Which was about half an hour ago.

The amount of time he crossed my mind since I ran out of that house was shocking, to say the least. I don't think there was a full minute during which his stupid face and that stupid smile of his didn't pop up before my eyes, during the entire ride with Briana.

Great, just great. First I discover I might be feeling something opposite of hate toward him, and then he gets stuck in my mind with no intention of leaving. Not to forget Dominick, who was still on my mind, most likely just as much as Liam was. Amazing.

I let out a raged breath, and started stomping over a can of Fanta that was on the sidewalk, making it almost in level with the asphalt. I have no idea what people would think if someone saw me like that.

I kicked the flattened can, and started walking at a quicker pace than before, for some reason even angrier than just a minute ago. I don't know whether it was because of the energy drink, but I had a feeling that I'd snap if anything bad happened.

Not looking to my left or right, I crossed the road, and started walking down a street that didn't have any street lights. Perfect. Like adding ice cream on top of a wedding cake, is how I felt.

Just as I shoved my hand into my pocket to search for my headphones, I heard some muffled noises, coming just down the dark street. I stopped in my tracks, and after a few seconds of trying to hear what was going on, I made out a woman's voice... A very frightened woman's voice.

I narrowed my eyes, and started walking slowly. If something was going on, I was determined to try and help. When I said I'd snap if anything bad happened? I wasn't kidding.

Soon I realized the sounds were coming from across the street, and I sprinted down the sidewalk when I noticed someone moving. There wasn't just one body though, there were two, and the difference in their sizes was astonishing; a short woman, probably not taller than 5'4, and a man, presumably a bodybuilder, who was at least half a meter taller than her. Something that you don't see that often in Wolverhampton.

For a second I thought it was a married couple arguing, but when I stopped just across from them, I noticed the woman was shaking her head frantically, while gripping her purse to her chest. And the man, he was slowly walking toward her, pinning her against the wall, occasionally trying to put his hands on her, but she always ended up slapping them away.

I felt my heart skip a beat when I realized; that man, he either wanted to rob her, or assault her. The thought that he might want both, was what made me—drum roll—snap.

This time I looked to both my sides, and when I was sure no vehicle was going to end my life, I ran across the street, toward the two people.

I think something happened while I was running, because the next thing I knew, all of my anger and frustration because of Liam was flying to the surface, making me want to get rid of it as soon and fast as possible. So I ran faster, a short, angry roar escaping my lips as I literally flung myself at the man.

I actually did it. I jumped on a man's back, my fingers digging into his face. The woman probably thought I'd lost my mind, but all I could think of was How dare you. How dare you try to attack an innocent human being, you louse.

The man let out a short yelp, as he tried to throw me off of him. I wasn't anywhere near getting off his back though; I pulled harder on his hair, and dug my fingers harder into his skin.

I reckon I sort of made a mistake by doing the latter, though.

As soon as I tried to practically rip his skin off, my index finger slid to the man's eye, almost poking it out in the process. Oops.

That's when he stopped trying to get me off him; he yelled, presumably in pain, lost all of his balance and... Fell. On his back.

On me.

I'd never imagined how it would feel to have a couch dropped on you, but when this 150kg heavy man fell on top of me, I think I got a pretty clear hint of how it could feel.

Fucking agonistic.

It's like every organ in your body got squeezed to the point where it could burst. I was pretty sure my body looked like that can of Fanta that I flattened a few minutes before.

I wasn't feeling good, duh, but I wasn't feeling any pain either. I wasn't feeling anything. I might have been dead, I don't know.

My head wasn't squeezed by the man's body, but I couldn't look anywhere except the sky. I could barely breathe, too. I didn't hit my head as we fell, but I guess that was one of the consequences; paralysis.

I couldn't even think straight. Even when he rolled off of me, I couldn't bring myself to move. I probably looked like a muppet when you drop it on the ground.

I could feel the man's eyes on me for a few seconds, then I heard him let out a shaky breath; he was obviously scared that I was dead. I finally managed to blink once, and look to my left, where I got a clear view of him.

As soon as our eyes met, the stranger's face went blank, and he stood up, scared, and started running. Just like that. He left me and his other victim lying on the ground, as he ran, so he'd save his own ass, not caring if one of us died on the street.

If someone had asked me to explain what had happened, I wouldn't be able to do that. I couldn't even explain it to myself; it all happened in a split second. One moment I was on his back, and the next one I was lying on the ground, watching the man who would be responsible for my possible disabilities run away.

The woman was sitting and had her back against a near-by wall, and from what I could see, her eyes were wide and she was shaking. I would be too, if I wasn't paralyzed. Literally.

A few hours later, well, just about 20 seconds in reality, she slowly stood up and observed me with horror in her eyes for a few moments. I looked back at her, seeing as that was the only thing I could do to let her know I was still alive.

"Dear lord, child, what have you done?" She whispered, looking down at me.

"I need..." I could barely choke the words out.

"I need you to call the ambulance."
