Chapter 2 - Dawn

Dawn's Point of View:

As I flew over the Earth, I scanned everything below me so I wouldn't fly over H.T. (Halloween Town) Suddenly, I spotted the huge bubble covering it. Silently cheering myself on, I did a triple-back-flip into the bubble and landed it... on my feet!

"I did it!" I shouted to anyone who happened to be listening. A trio of witches stared at me for a minute; a girl with long blonde hair, a girl with curly red (REALLY red) hair, and a boy with dirty blonde hair (and a huge scowl on his face, too.) The curly red-headed one smiled at me.

Right then, I felt like I could do anything, and so I took a step towards them....

...and promptly landed on my face.

"Well, so much for being graceful." I muttered to myself as I peeled myself off the ground. When I got up, I saw that the trio of witches were nowhere to be seen.

"Typical, typical Dawn." I muttered as I walked into the actual town part of Halloween Town.

"Hi Charlotte," I said as I walked into my bunk room that all the female vampires shared. Oh yes, and when I say all the female vampires, I just mean Charlotte and I, because we are the only two female vampires that currently reside in Halloween Town.

You see, vampires are created when a vampire bites a human, and the human dies from it. But the only way a vampire is going to bite a human (I've heard some nasty things about the taste of human blood...) is if the human seeks out the vampire first, and wants to be bitten. Then, if the vampire is willing enough to bite him/her, the human dies and is reborn as a vampire an hour or so later. Considering that is the reason vampires are made, it is no wonder that their are only a few vampires, and only two are girls. People don't even believe we exist anymore, and even if they did, they probably wouldn't want to be one, and even if they did, they wouldn't even know where to find us in the first place. The youngest vampires are a few hundred years old, because that is when they believed in us. But they believed we were evil creatures made by the devil himself, so only the really rebellious ones actually become vampires. Though none of us remember who (or what) we were in our past lives, we all still have that sort of rebellious streak. Except for the ancient Dracula, who is the oldest vampire ever. No one knows how he came to be.

"Dawn." Charlotte hissed from her bunk. "Do you hear that?" I craned my neck up towards the roof, but heard nothing but the wind.

"No."

"Oh. Alright then, it's probably nothing. Good night, Dawn."

"Good night Charlotte."

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

The next morning, I headed straight for the potions shop. People in my school kept commenting on how pale my skin is, which is normal for a vampire (considering the fact that the sun makes us shrivel and die if we are in it for too long a time), but not for a human. If I wanted to not be found out, I was gonna have to buy some skin paste.

The potions shop was a dark, herb-smelling place. For a witch, it must be a nice smell, but it made me gag. Anyway, the witch at the shop currently was none other than one of the witches that was in the trio of witches that I saw earlier! Actually, that was a mouthful, so let me re-phrase that: the witch at the potions shop was one of the three that saw me fall on my face. Not the curly redhead, but the other girl who had long blonde hair and deep brown eyes.

"Oh." I said as I saw her. "Um, hi."

"Hi." She said back. "What do you need?"

"Um, just skin paste." I said back. She cocked her head at me.

"Ooookkkkkaaaayyyyy......."

I blinked. What was she trying to do? Was she just trying to confuse me? I looked at her face, and found that she had a slight smile on, too. Was she mocking me?

"If this is about last night, I don't want to talk about it." I said as a started out the door. "I'll pick up the paste in an hour or so. Okay?" I didn't wait for a reply as I walked out the door, into the dim sunlight.

"Witches." I muttered to myself.
