"Wrong." Lewis piped up from the register, bringing his phone away from his ear, 911 pre-dialed on the screen.
"What the fuck man?" John hissed as he, Laf and Hercules all advanced towards the register menacingly. Lewis squeaked and quickly dove under the counter, fumbling around before he shot back up, a gun clutched in his shaking hands and aimed at the crew.
"Mate two can play it that game," Hercules growled as he retrieved a gun as well.
"I-I'll shoot!" Lewis hissed, shifting his aim between everyone cautiously. Maria emerged from the candy shelves and threw her head back with a laugh, sauntering up to the register and hooking her fingers through the metal grate separating her from Lewis, much like she had at Columbia when she first met the boys.
"Honey put the gun down. Nobody needs to get shot." She pouted. "Just call off the cops and maybe I can do something for you in return," she hummed, sliding her hand down the grate and leaning forward a little, scanning her eyes over Lewis' body.
His eyes widened and he stumbled backwards into the corner.
"Ma'am p-please step away from the register," he gulped, his cheeks flushing bright red.
"Oh Lewis you-" Maria began to toy, reading his name tag before someone stopped her.
John placed a hand on her shoulder but on reflex she immediately spun around and grabbed his wrist, throwing his hand against the metal grate. John yelped in surprise until Maria realised who it was and smirked, their faces just inches apart.
"Maria," Alex warned with a slight growl. She sighed and gave Lewis one last wink before she spun around, releasing John's wrist and walking away, swapping with Alex who came over to stand beside John, holding his hand protectively.
"Look, if you're doing this because it's your job, we can kill the security cameras and say we managed to escape," Alex reasoned with a frown. Lewis stayed quiet, pressing his lips into a thin line of thought.
"Uh guys," James squeaked, looking out beyond the glass doors.
"Just because we've done bad things doesn't mean we're bad people, there are some much worse people coming after us and every second you hold us here, they're getting closer and closer." He sighed desperately. Lewis glanced around the crew nervously, biting his lip.
"Guys," James tried again a little louder.
"Oh for god's sake you either let us go or get shot, I know which option I'd be choosing," Thomas exclaimed over James with a bitter laugh, throwing one hand on his hip and one around James, who was not impressed.
Lewis opened his mouth to respond before screeching sirens and skids snapped the atmosphere outside. Everyone's heads shot to the side at bullet speed, panicked expressions painted on everyone's features.
Eliza was standing right by the doors outside as a set of cop cars began pulling up outside the gas station.
"How did they get here so fast?" John snapped in shock, backing away from the doors.
"I tried to- " James groaned but was cut off yet again.
"Weapons!" Maria called out.
"Wait, we don't want a bloodbath." Alex frowned, keeping his gun hidden. Maria turned to Alex with her mouth hanging open slightly, her features quickly transforming into an accusing scowl.
"So we're just going to let ourselves get caught?" Maria snapped, throwing her hands up. "I think the fuck not," she hissed, spinning her knives excitedly.
"Maria! Killing everyone isn't solving anything!" Alex sighed, raking a hand through his hair. "Those officers have families and lives too, you can't just kill everybody who gets in your way."
Maria glared at him for a moment, police officers stepping out of their cars in formation and hiding behind their doors, guns raised while Lewis lifted the metal lock up bars.
"WEAPONS DOWN AND HANDS WHERE WE CAN SEE THEM." An officer ordered through a loudspeaker outside.
Maria ever so slowly turned around, raising her hands and dropping her knives with a loud metallic clash, a cold hard glare on her features. Everyone else dropped the weapons they had that were visible to the police and raised their hands slowly.
"VACATE THE PREMISES, SLOWLY." The same officer ordered again.
Maria strutted out of the mini aldi at her own pace, heels clicking, her hands held high above her head and a pissed-off pout planted on her lips.
"SLOWLY." The officer repeated sternly.
"Slowly my ass!" She yelled back, twirling her wrists to flip him off. The others followed her out and they lined up outside the building slowly. "ON YOUR KNEES."
"Kinky," Lafayette muttered under his breath, earning a snicker from Hercules. At that the officers raised their guns a little higher, Lafayette scoffing.
Suddenly a small feminine shout snapped the air. Everyone's heads whipped towards the sound where Eliza was being shoved against a police car's hood.
"Secure their vehicle." The officer at the loudspeaker ordered.
Two officers approached the van, one walking up to the driver's seat and one moving to the back doors. Hercules smirked and gave a short, high pitched whistle. Everyone shared confused glances until the officer at the back of the van opened the doors.
Artemis leaped out of the car with a booming bark and sank her teeth into the officer's shoulder, throwing him back and slamming him into the ground, his gun firing off aimlessly into the air. Every officer's attention was drawn to Artemis as she began to attack officers left right and centre.
"Let's go!" Hercules yelled, jumping up and whipping out his second gun. Everyone else jumped up ready to fight, retrieving their guns and making a bolt for the van.
Officers began shooting at everyone's legs as they ran with the intent to immobilise not kill. The constant popping of gunshots was deafening. The crew shot back, their aim a little off as they were running frantically, but Maria BANG still hit BANG a solid BANG four BANG officers.
As they reached the van Thomas shot the officer inspecting the driver's seat without hesitation, shoving him to the side as he jumped behind the wheel, Madison by his side in the passenger seat.
"Taking the wheel Tommy?" James scoffed, raising his eyebrows skeptically.
"Well our star get away driver isn't here is she?" Thomas sighed, revving up the engine.
"Shit Eliza!" Maria gasped, swiveling around, guilt swelling in her stomach. She looked back and saw Alex already on it.
"Alex what are you doing?" John yelled after him in horror.
"We're not leaving anyone behind!" Alex snapped, bolting for the car Eliza was being held in. An officer came running at him, taser raised ready to attack. Alex sucked in a sharp breath, slicing through his lungs like a knife as he raised his gun and shot the officer in the thigh.
He released the breath with wide eyes watching the officer crumple to the ground groaning. He dove for the car and slumped against it, throwing the door open. Now was not the time to panic.
"Eliza!" He gasped, reaching into the car. She grabbed his hand and he tugged her out of the car swiftly. They ran hand in hand, dodgi-
BANG
Alex felt the white hot pain spread through his leg and he collapsed to the floor, skidding with inertia surging him forward against the gravel.
"ALEX!" John screamed, jumping forward before Hercules grabbed his arm and whipped him backwards.
Police officers swarmed around Alex and Eliza, cuffing them both and applying pressure to Alex's wound with tightly-tied cloths while others still came after the rest of the crew, guns and tasers raised.
"FUCK LET ME GO!" John roared, thrashing in Hercules' grip, Lafayette coming in to help hold him back as they pulled him into the back of the van. "We're not leaving anyone behind!" He grunted, clenching his teeth and breathing heavily as he tried to escape.
Maria and Artemis jumped into the back of the van with the others and Maria slammed the van doors shut. Without any hesitation the van sped away, gunshots pinging against the metal as John pounded against the doors from inside the van, shouting frantically.
Alex glanced up weakly with lidded eyes, watching the van speed away and releasing a shaky breath. He was ripped to his feet, gravel and blood sticking to his cheek as he was shoved towards the police car Eliza was in before.
He was thrown into the back and not too long later Eliza was shoved in beside him with a shout, her hands cuffed in her lap and tears staining her cheeks.
Alex tilted his head to face Eliza, reaching his cuffed hands out slowly and placing them over Eliza's.
"We're getting out of here, don't worry," he assured her quietly, his voice a little hoarse. Eliza shot him a sad smile and held his hands.
