John's head slammed against the car wall as they hit a bump and he snapped awake with a shout, Alex and Artemis jumping a little in his lap.
"Jesus take it easy!" John exclaimed to Maria, who had taken over driving to let Eliza take a break.
"Do you wanna drive?" Maria hissed, her voice muffled by the lollipop stick still clamped in her teeth. John stayed quiet, sinking back into his seat and brushing his hands through Alex's hair and Artemis' coat. "That's what I thought."
The van fell silent once more, they had the radio playing until an argument began between playing Leave Me Lonely or Often, since all they could access was the mainstream east coast radio stations. In the end Mother Eliza put the arguments to a rest.
"So Maria," Eliza muttered, tilting her head to look at her.
"Ya," Maria answered casually, removing the lollipop stick from her lips and dropping it in the car door.
"What are you gonna do after you... kill, your boyfriend?" Eliza asked quietly with a slight squint.
Maria pressed her lips into a thin line deep in thought, humming lightly.
"I may as well just let myself get caught," she shrugged nonchalantly. "As long as he's dead I'm satisfied,"
"Oh, well, you could come with us," Eliza smiled gently.
"Where are you guys even going?" Maria questioned curiously with a slight laugh. "Someone said France a while ago, Laf and Herc reckon their boys can set up a boat,"
"Well I suppose that's where we'll go, France," Eliza beamed.
"The city of love," Maria smirked playfully, leaning back in her seat comfortably. Eliza felt heat crawl to her cheeks and the back of her neck.
The back of her neck?
She spun around and came face to face with Alex and John who were smiling uncontrollably like excited school girls.
"I ship it, John, do you?" Alex grinned, his eyes flickering to John briefly.
"I certainly do Alex, I certainly do," John smirked with a curt nod, resting his chin in his hand smugly.
Eliza shoved her hands in their faces and shoved them backwards. They laughed uncontrollably as they fell into the back of the van, softening to a giggle when John rolled over to lay on top of Alex.
The van was filled with soft kissing noises and every now and then a gentle giggle of 'John s-stop' until Maria lost it. She yanked the wheel to the side and received a satisfying thud and yelp as John was thrown off of Alex and into the van wall.
"Was that really necessary?" Alex snapped.
"Yes!" Maria, Eliza, Thomas and James all chimed in unison.
Maria gave the wheel another pull and the van came to a sudden halt in front of an empty gas station.
"Snack break!" She called out, unclipping her seatbelt and throwing her car door open. Everyone jumped up excitedly and burst out of the van, Lafayette and Hercules skidding up on their bikes swiftly.
"God I'm craving a nice cold ice cream," John sighed as he jogged up to the entrance of the mini Aldi with Alex by his side.
"You and me both babe," Alex chuckled as they stepped inside. "Do you have any money?" He asked curiously.
"No, and why would we bother? We're already wanted criminals, a little bit of shoplifting never hurt nobody," he shrugged with a grin.
(A/N DON'T LISTEN TO JOHN IT IS BAD BAD BAD I mean so is everything else they do but sTILL)
"You're starting to sound like Maria," Alex muttered, rolling his eyes.
John laughed as they headed straight for the freezers at the back and began examining their options.
"I'm kind of in the mood for a Golden Gay Time," Alex snickered, sneaking up behind John and wrapping his arms around his waist. "And not the ice cream," he whispered in John's ear, his breath hot on John's skin.
John shivered and his cheeks flushed a little.
"Not now Alex," he mumbled with a little giggle, shimmying out of his grip and grabbing his hand.
"Then when John?" Alex frowned, following him obediently as he scanned through the freezers.
"Soon," John muttered, squeezing Alex's hand.
Alex stopped walking, jerking John backwards. He pulled John close, his gaze downcast and his expression solemn.
"You know there's a chance we won't get through this," Alex whispered, not looking up at John. "I'm sorry for being pushy, I just- there's this fear I have that any kiss we share could be our last,"
John daintily held Alex's chin and pulled his face up to look at him.
"Alex, we're going to get through this, together," John hummed assuringly, his fingers slipping up to caress Alex's jaw. "And then we'll live in France, and have two dogs and too many turtles, and feast on delicious french cuisine every day, a-and maybe there'll be a mini Alex & John," he spoke quietly with an ecstatic smile.
Alex's cheeks heated up just a little and he fluttered his eyes closed with a weak smile, leaning into John's hand.
"That sounds nice," he whispered contently. He felt John's soft lips press against his and he melted into him, his hands resting on John's hips. John broke away with a sigh and Alex's eyes fluttered open to gaze up at him in awe, his smile brighter than the sun.
"I love y-" John began to hum before a loud crash smashed their ear drums.
"HERCULES!" Lafayette scolded across the station.
John rolled his eyes and Alex pecked his lips.
"Love ya too," he smiled, grabbing John's hand and leading him out to see what had happened.
When they stepped away from the frozen treats aisle they came face to face with Maria shoplifting, shovelling handfuls of lollipops into her jacket pockets. She froze and her eyes snapped to John and Alex who were both staring at her with wide eyes.
"What? You think I just pull 'em out of thin air?" She snapped, squinting at them carefully. John smiled innocently, nodding, and she scoffed, turning back to her stock up, sticks of bubblegum and redskins finding a home in her bralette.
"Where's Eliza?" Alex asked curiously.
"Outside on the phone to her sister," Maria shrugged as she tried to choose between starburst or chupa chups.
Alex and John shared a quick glance and a shrug before they left her to continue her raid, finding Thomas sitting on the floor of the next aisle with James in his lap, sharing a block of Marvellous Creations as they talked. Every now and then Thomas would kiss James' cheek, causing him to convulse and giggle.
"Why can't we be that cute?" Alex hissed, nudging John.
"Because we're cuter," John smirked, pecking Alex's cheek before shoving him into the next aisle.
There they finally found Lafayette and Hercules, Hercules buried under bags of chips and half a shelf.
"What the fuck did he do?" John laughed, Alex giggling beside him as Lafayette carefully cleaned up.
"This idiot was climbing the shelf to reach the 'honey soy chicken' chips," Lafayette laughed, rolling his eyes. "Now he can have all the chips he wants," He scoffed, throwing a bag of 'salt & vinegar' at Hercules' face.
Hercules sat up with a groan, shoving the chips away and earning a few snickers from the other boys.
"You asked for them!" Hercules hissed, standing up from the pile and shoving a packet of the 'honey soy chicken' in his chest.
"I did, and it was very kind of you to reach them for me mon amour," Lafayette smiled, batting his eye lashes innocently. Hercules' eyes widened in horror and he shot Lafayette an expression that screamed shut the fuck up! Lafayette realised his mistake and gasped gently, pressing his lips into a thin line.
"Lafayette, what did you just call Hercules?" Alex smirked, crossing his arms slowly while John watched on, the realisation slowly hitting him.
'That's what Alex calls me.'
"I meant mon ami! Hercules mon ami!" Lafayette exclaimed nervously with a forced smile, hooking his arm over Hercules' shoulder and scruffing up his hair in a friendly manner.
"We won't tell anyone," John whispered with an excited smile.
"Lies. You two can not keep your mouths shut for shit!" Lafayette hissed back, squinting at them accusingly.
"We swear! We won't say a word!" Alex pleaded, John nodding his head enthusiastically.
Lafayette and Hercules shared a glance, communicating silently through a series of eye brow wiggles, gaze flickers and lip biting.
"How long?" Alex whispered, ignoring their quiet conversion.
"2 years," Hercules muttered after a brief pause.
"2 YEARS?" John exclaimed, Alex slapping his hand over John's mouth and Hercules and Lafayette jumping in shock. John shoved Alex's hand away and stared at the two of them with wide eyes.
"You were already fucking when I got there? Right under my nose? We shared a cell block for a year! How did I never know?" He snapped in an aggressive whisper.
"Laurens, you are very oblivious. It was very easy." Lafayette deadpanned, earning a giggle from Alex.
John shot Alex a sharp glare and he threw his hands up in defence, biting his lip to hold back his grin.
"I-" Alex began to reason before a loud CRASH echoed from the front of the mini Aldi.
Everyone's heads shot up to see the metal bars that enclosed the glass windows after closing time had dropped down, trapping them inside. The station fell silent, only the echoing of the small box tv attached to the roof beside the cash register humming through the store.
James Madison has been untraceable since as well as the former governor, Thomas Jefferson, and Madison's inmate Thomas Conway. Criminal Levi Weeks was reported to have been burned to death in the incident after interviews with other prisoners who were present at the scene.
Slowly John, Lafayette and Hercules began to make their way to the front of the store, their eyes glued on the tv as images of King's ruins and their mugshots flashed on screen. A man stood behind the register with a name tag reading 'Lewis'. His eyes were darting between the screen and the criminals in front of him and he slowly began to lower the metal grate separating himself and his register from the rest of the store.
Upon the most recent escape, Criminals Aaron Burr, George Frederick, Marquis De Lafayette, John Laurens, Charles Lee, Alexander Hamilton, Hercules Mulligan, Samuel Seabury, James Reynolds and Maria Reynolds escaped with assistance from correctional officer Theodosia Burr. Charles Lee was shot on sight during their escape, but the remaining criminals are still loose on the streets of Chicago.
"They still think we are in Chicago?" Lafayette muttered with a slight chuckle.
If you see any of these criminals-
"That's good, this is good, they're not onto us, our only worry is Conway now, right?" Alex grinned nervously, his eyes flickering between the news and the boys he was standing with.
Report their whereabouts to authorities immediately.
"Wrong." Lewis piped up from the register, bringing his phone away from his ear, 911 pre-dialled on the screen.
