Chapter 6

Loki had a very obvious and very selfish reason for wanting to stay and help the Lady unpack her new things. He desperately needed to get to know her now that he knew that she had his Sigyn's soul within her body. He needed to know how much of his Sigyn was within this lady. He wasn't doing it for an altruistic reason and he knew that was unkind of him. The team was right to question his motives. He never would have volunteered to help anyone else. Especially not to do this task the long way. If he were truly helping someone for an altruistic reason, he would use magic to help them to get the task done quickly.

He wasn't trying to get the task done quickly.

He needed to spend time with the Lady.

He also needed to do this carefully, so very carefully. This Sigyn wasn't his Sigyn. She was in soul, but not in body. He had to learn what that meant, what the differences truly were. She didn't seem to remember anything of her soul's previous life. At least she gave no indication that she remembered anything.

She didn't look like his Sigyn either, except her eyes. He saw it now that he was looking for it. They had the same eyes.

And apparently the same steel in their spines, he noted, as she shoved Lady Natasha and the Captain from the suite, while Loki in all his innocence was allowed to remain. "We'll be fine," she reassured them as she shoved them out. He heard the threat in her words. If they weren't fine, he would be being shoved out of the room along with the others and he wouldn't be receiving another invitation into her private space.

He wouldn't, couldn't, allow that to happen. Not when Sigyn had finally returned to him. Norns, he had to be so very careful not to fuck this up.

"So, where shall we begin?" Loki asked, looking at the mountain of shopping bags, drawing her attention to the task and away from him and his motives in helping her.

She looked at the mountain of bags in question and groaned. "This is going to take forever,"

Loki approached the mountain and picked up a bag at random. "Then, I suggest we get started," he peered inside the bag. "Bedroom bag," he announced and went to take the bag of clothes into the bedroom. Sigyn got the hint and the pair got to sorting. They worked well together, like they had been working together for centuries and hadn't just started that afternoon. The mountain of bags dwindled as items were sorted and put away.

Loki wasn't getting the information he was looking for, though. The work was getting done, but he wasn't getting the Lady talking. How to get her talking and more importantly, how to get her talking about the things he needed to know?

"You glossed over quite a bit of your story earlier," he commented as he sorted bags. "Which was understandable given how we were short on time," he added quickly before he could risk sparking her temper. He didn't want to risk sparking her temper, he wanted to remain on her good side. She had paused her own sorting to look at him and raised an eyebrow, seeming to ask where he was going with this. She reminded him of a curious cat preparing to pounce on a hoppy bug. "You said you have abilities?"

She nodded and took a breath, evaluating him. He must have passed some kind of test since she decided to trust him. She raised a hand and glowing gold magic surrounded it. Asgardian magic. Loki recognized it immediately. "I have magic," she replied. "I'm also stronger and faster than the regular humans. Well, besides my mom. We thought we hid it, but not well enough. Hydra found me after all,"

Loki asked next about her mother and watched her light up in delight as she talked about the woman who raised her, who taught Norse mythology, who taught her magic. Who, in Loki's opinion, was clearly an Asgardian Lady. It was the same light in her eyes that entered Loki's own when he spoke of his own mother. He told her his own stories of his beloved mama in return and earned a smile from her that was so very like his beloved Sigyn's smile.

She wasn't his Sigyn, he would have to come to terms with that.

Her soul was his Sigyn's.

Some of her mannerisms were his Sigyn's.

But what made her her? That was her own. She was her own person.

Loki would have to get to know that person. Would have to build a new relationship with this new Sigyn. He would have to be patient. Would have to take it slow.

Loki was horrible at being patient.

But he would do it.

For Sigyn.

For his heart.

Anything for his heart.
