Chapter 5

You had gotten the news early that morning that you would be getting out of the cell. Fury had finally agreed that you weren't a threat to the team and that you'd be an asset.

So Nat and Cap had come to let you out and they took you on a shopping trip with Tony's credit card to get you a wardrobe of clothes. Keeping up with Nat was a whirlwind experience, but by the end of the day you had a full wardrobe of clothes that not only fit, but looked good on you. There were even a couple of formal dressed that Nat insisted you needed since the team did charity events and Tony hosted balls every so often and you'd be expected to attend as the newest member of the team.

It was a lot to take in.

"We'll give you the proper tour later," Nat promised as the three of you carried all your bags up to your new room. "Figured you'd want some time to settle in,"

"I appreciate that," you replied, already feeling overwhelmed by everything. The tower was huge and the shopping trip had been a lot. You could use a bit of quiet to put your new things away.

Nat babbled something about security and how after that day the door would only open for you as she opened the door to your room. You only half paid attention. It would be safe and comfortable and yours. That was the important part. It would be the first time in years that you wouldn't be tortured, wouldn't be in a cell.

As you were carrying bags into your room, the door across the hall opened and Loki stepped out.

Cap spotted him. "Loki, good, you're here. This is Sigyn. She's going to be joining the team too. Sigyn, this is Loki, our last new recruit. He also lives on this floor,"

You set your bags down and moved to Loki. You offered your hand to shake, which Loki reciprocated. He had the strangest look in his eyes, which you couldn't place. Did he think you were going to out him for sneaking down to visit you? "Nice to meet you, Loki," you said as if Loki hadn't spent the last two days sneaking down to meet you. You could keep a secret.

Loki inclined his head. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Lady," he replied, trying desperately to keep his emotions in check.

That hadn't been it, then. He still had the strange look in his eyes. You couldn't place the look or what it meant. He looked like something pained him, but also like he had such hope. You didn't understand it.

"Here, let me help you with those," Loki said and came over to where you had set down your shopping bags. He picked them up to the shock of everyone and carried them into your room for you before you could even think to protest that you could get them.

You followed him into the room and found yourself surprised that it wasn't just a simple bedroom. It was practically an entire apartment: a living room with a couch, tv, coffee table and bookshelf, bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette. That explained some of the items that Nat insisted that you needed to pick out. She hadn't insisted on just clothes but also books, knickknacks, things to make an apartment feel like a home. This was why.

Loki glanced at the mountain of shopping bags in your living room. "Would you like a hand unpacking?" He asked.

Cap's eyes narrowed slightly. "What trick are you up to, Loki?" He asked suspiciously. You didn't blame him for being suspicious. Nat was as well. Loki was the god of mischief after all and from what you had gathered didn't do things unless they entertained him.

So why would helping you unpack entertain him?

Loki held his hands up innocently. "No tricks," he promised. "I simply wish to get to know my new neighbor,"

"You ok with this?" Nat asked you.

You nodded. "We'll be fine," you could always kick Loki out yourself. You had a feeling that you wanted him to stay to get answer just as much as he wanted to stay for... whatever his reasons were. "We'll be fine," you repeated and politely shoved Nat and Cap out so you could get to work.

And could hopefully figure out what was going on with Loki.
