Déjà vu

Joining the haunted adventure contest

Forgotten: Déjà vu

"Come with me" She had said,

"It'll be fun!" She had stated.

There are moments in life when one must choose a decision that could change their lives forever, for better or for worse.

And for Danna, this was her moment.

Two years ago Danna was in a car crash, a car crash that took away her memories and her loved ones, she didn't remember for she had Amnesia.

Two painful years ago she had to pack her bags from the orphanage home and travel to her new one with strangers, they had said a new environment would be better for her, so she could recover and be a normal teen again.

So when her friend had asked her to camp with her in the holidays of October to get away from all the stress from collage, she agreed, she wanted a normal teenage life again.

And she was going to get one.

Only then when they had set up camp in Screaming woods, situated in Kent she started to regret her decision.

The forest was nicknamed the "Screaming Woods" and had a very detailed reputation of all the gore and bloody murder that had happened there.

But her best friend Melly had a heart of bravery and an instinct to scout for adventure, she had confessed that she wanted to prove their classmates wrong of the forest being scary and evil so not wanting to go by herself she invited Danna.

"Your presence can be quite comforting" She smiled, her eyes twinkling.

Accepting the truth Danna heasitently helped her set up the tent, bringing bits of wood her weak arms could carry, and finally when all the hard work was done they had settled around the campfire with marshmallows on sticks, burning in the fire.

The stars and the moon started to glow in the sky but darkness still covered them like a blanket, fogging their eyesight to see what was around them.

To ease their discomfort Melly had introduced her to her companions that she had brought... rum, sunset rum to be exact.
Shaking her head Delly took a few sips, her body unknowingly already used to the strong effect it had on her.

Then the night was spent with drunken confessions and terrible singing, oblivious to the sound of shrieks and moans of fear.

"Got to go!" Melly slurred, pointing a trembling finger at Danna as she left, her eyes in a daze.

Danna didn't acknowledge her as she was in her own little world but kept on drinking the alcohol that kept whispering her name to drink, her eyes rolling at the back of her head when she tried to keep awake.

Flashes of fire burned in her mind, people screaming her name echoed in her ears as she kept on drinking her lips still dry against the liquid, enjoying the feeling of it burning down her throat, but frowning when her senses became dull.

Her brown chocolate eyes glanced around her, seeing nothing but those painful pictures, but then a small thought in her head made her train of memories crash in shock.

She realised that Melly was gone and she was left alone with the only comfort of the now empty bottle.

Getting up with some difficulty her view was still as blurry as before, cold water could fix that but they had already ran out of it, hugging her shaking figure whilst tucking her hands in her blue knitted jumper she slowly tiptoed her way to where she though Melly had went. Her mind now slowly awakening from the feeling of fear.

The night engulfed her as she sauntered deeper into the forest, failing to dodge tree branches that whipped against her pale skin, with her laces undone her steps faltered every second as her wide eyes took in her sorroundings.

Feeling her heart drum against her chest in a panic she came to the realisation that the place seemed familiar to her, she did not understand how or why but the familiarity set her on edge.

She then broke out into a clearing, a field of withered hay dancing in the wind,

"Melly!, Melly where are you?" Her red lips quivered from the cold that bit into her skin, her teeth chattering as she continued walking into the field.

Birds lifted their wings and raced away from their nests in their trees making her squeak in surprise, and following their movements her eyes wandered to an ambandoned house just up on a hill. The doorway left open making the yellow light trapped in the house escape to her line of sight.

With a few short breaths she trudged her way there, hoping that her friend somehow got lost and went there for shelter. Her fast movements only created waves of pain, striking her mind making her whimper.

But that only encouraged her to move faster. With strength she didn't know she had she crawled up the hill till her feet became sore, sweat coating her skin, the light grew stronger and her mind was now set on reaching that house, reaching that goal.

Images filtered her brain as she got closer, the face of a smiling boy holding her hand, a red car crashing through the rainy storm at full speed, the look of love shining in an old woman's eyes, and then the tears of sorrow, of misery of someone's death.

Fighting back those pictures with tears of her own pooling in her eyes she reached for the door handle and pulled herself into the lit up house, breathing in relief when those images stopped.

"Melly?, Are you in here?"

The house wasn't what she had expected, there was grey streaks of black across the walls as if someone dipped their finger in paint and wrote something on those walls, it had sections of the ceiling hung limp in the stagnant air, the rotting wooden windows stabbed with broken glass.

The lights started to flicker as Dana continued to survey the room that she was in, some furnitures covered by white see through blankets to say whoever has lived here had left.

She came to the conclusion that even though if it's skeleton state, this house was built for a good purpose, for a wealthy family to live in for the rooms were grand and big, but all sign of living residents had turned to dust and the only clues of a soul being here were the broken lamps and the flickering light.

Nodding as she swallowed down the bile threatening to come out she walked calmly out the house as she could, Melly wasn't here she thought.

Just as she walked down the hill she so desperately climbed up from the lights from the abandoned house switched off. This for her was not a good sign and with one last scared look she sprinted with the last amount of energy she had back to the camp. Fortunately she had mapped out her sorroundings but she didn't even need to locate herself for her body moved on it's own, as if she already knew where to go.

The glowing light of the campfire made her sigh, her heart now calming In her chest.

She stopped short when a figure sat slouching Infront of it.

It was Melly!.

"Where were you?" She was replied with growls from the creatures of the night, as if they were screaming, trying to warn her about something.

Melly turned to look at her with blood shot eyes and burst a blood curling scream as a black hand grabbed her throat. Her heart that was now pulsing faster than ever slowed down to a slow dangerous tempo. Danna clawed her fingers at the strangers hands but that did nothing.

Her body became numb and all thoughts of survival slowed to a stop, whatever she had alerted in that house had followed her down to where they were.

Her body was hanging in the air and all she could now see was the flashing red lights, the growl vibrating down to her bones.

But that didn't matter to her now, because she remebered...

She remebered who she was, her past, her friends, her parents, her life.

She was Danna Loenne, and she was going to survive this night so with a swing of her head she crashed into another hard skull behind her knocking her unconscious as blackness seeped into her vision.

She remembered, and that's all that mattered.
