Chapter 6

  One Year Later

"Hey Meadow, Truth or dare." I asked her. Right now, we were sitting in my bed, the TV on, playing truth or dare and eating candy.

"Dare." She said. I smiled and started my dare.

"I dare you, to eat five of the worst tasting candies on this bed." I said. She nodded her head and picked up a Kit Kat.

"What? Those are amazing!" I exclaimed. She shrugged and put one in her mouth.

"I never really liked them." She said. Rolling my eyes, I watched her stuff the remaining for candies into her mouth. Glancing up at the TV, I smirked as one of my least favorite characters was murdered. The show is called Scream.

"Okay River, Truth or Dare." She asked.

"Truth." I said. She smirked and said,

"Is there any extra body parts on you? Like a growth or a tumor, or a huge zit? If so, show it to me. Not in the inappropriate places though." She said. I paled. She obviously noticed, or at least thought it was because she said inappropriate parts, and grew anxious.

"What? What is it?" She asked me. I looked at her.

"Can you keep a secret?" I asked her. She nodded her head and started talking,

"Well yeah-" I cut her off.

"Can you keep a secret so secretive, if you tell anyone, and I mean anyone, I can die." I asked. She hesitated, but nodded anyway.

"Yeah man. Your my best friend, I would never tell anyone a secret that big." She said. I smiled and nodded.

"Can you keep Cliffs secret a secret too? His secret is just as big as mine." I said. She nodded.

"Yeah." Meadow said, curiosity laced in her voice.

"Cliff! Get in here!" I called. In a few seconds, the door opened and Cliff trudged in.

  "What?" He groaned.

"She's ready to know." I said. He stared at me like I grew three heads.

"Seriously? Now?" He exclaimed, running his hand through his hair. I nodded.

"What's going on?" She asked. I sighed and looked at her.

"Cliff close the door." I said. Dad would kill us if he knew that we showed us her wings.

"What is going on guys." She asked us, starting to stand up.

"Okay. You might want to sit down for this." I said. She looked at me oddly, then sat down. I took my hoodie off and turned around. Cliff did the same thing and we pushed our wings out of our shirts. Meadow gasped.

  "Woah." She said, pinching herself.

"Am I dreaming?" She asked. I smiled and turned around.

  "No." I said. Cliff smiled.

"This is awesome. You guys have wings!" She exclaimed. We shushed her and she looked guiltily at us.

"I had my suspicions, but this is far beyond what I thought!"

"What did you think?" Cliff asked. She looked down.

"Well, I uh, sorrta, kinda, though that you were in some sort of clan or Maximum Ride wannabes." She said while blushing. I laughed.

"Meadow! Maximum Ride is just a book series. That's it! This is real! Don't believe me? Then touch my feathers." I said. She walked up to me and touched my feathers.

"Wow. I'm really not dreaming. How did you get them?" She asked me. I sighed.

"You want them don't you." Cliff asked.

"Who wouldn't?" She asked. I sighed and sat down, my wings sprawled out against the bed.

"It's really," I stopped, remembering Cliffs screams. "painful." I said. She looked at us with sympathy.

  "Oh." She drifted. I sighed.

"Do you still want wings?" I asked her. Her eyes lit up and she nodded.

"Okay. Let me get Dad. Be careful, okay Meadow?" I asked. She nodded I started toward Dads room before stoping and going back to Meadow.

"Also, do not forget to take strong pain killers that will last at least five hours." I said. She nodded and went downstairs to find the medicine. I went to go get Dad and Cliff went into the basement to set up.

"Hey Dad, I need you to do me a favor." I asked him. He glared at me and paused the TV.

"Why are you interrupting me during the game?" He asked.

"I need to ask you a favor." I said once again.

"I said, why did you interrupt me during the damn game?!" He yelled.

"I need you to train my best friend as hard and tough as you can. Train her so hard, she will get wings." I said. He grinned maniacally.

"Deal." He said, turning off the TV and going into the basement. He turned on the TV down there and started training Meadow.

In about an hour, screams of The Changing was heard.
