Chapter 4

  Thirty Minutes Later

His wings stopped growing, but he is still screaming. I decided to touch his wings. They were soft, like mine, and were pitch black with a violet tint, meanwhile I had a blue tint. He stopped screaming, and his wings twitched. Picking him up, I saw a blood at the base of his wings. Carrying him into the bathroom, I realized he was lighter than he seems. I guess the last part made our bones lighter so we can fly.

Setting him on the toilet seat, I grabbed a warm, wet cloth and started cleaning off his blood. Jolting awake, he looked around frantically while I stood up suddenly and stood back with the bloody cloth. All the blood was off his body.

"Who are you?" He asked. Stepping away slightly.

"I'm River Jones. Who are you?" I asked him. He looked around before saying,

"I'm Cliff Ford. Where am I?" He asked me.

"The upstairs bathroom in my house."

"How did I get here?"

"To the house? Or to the bathroom."

"Both."

"Your parents drove you here, and then I carried you up here after you, uh, grew wings." I said. He looked shocked.

"How did I get wings?" He asked.

"I don't know, but I have them too." I said, turning around and spreading out my wings slightly. He started walking toward me, before feeling the floor drag against his wings. Stopping, he turned around and gasped. Reaching behind his back, he turned in circles a few times before grabbing on of his down feathers. Picking up his left wing, he pet it gently, getting a feel for every nook and cranny.

"How do I... Move, my wings." He said. I smiled and grabbed his free hand, dragging him into my room.

"Who's room is this?" He asked me. I smiled, hearing my dads snores.

"My room." I said, turning on the TV to Kids Network. Cliff smiled and I say on my bed. My room is pretty big, but Dad's is bigger. Spreading out out one wing, I flapped slightly and blew a gust of air toward Cliff.

"Hey Cliff, this is what we are going to do first. Now, doing this, you will use a part of your brain you have never used. Now try and open your wing." I said. He nodded and his wing slightly twitched open.

"This is hard." He said. I nodded.

"Imagine how flying would be." I said. His expression went to total shock. Standing up, I gently put my hand on his other dropped wing and opened it.

"That is what it should feel like when you open your wing." I said. He nodded and I moved to the other wing, which was trying not to fall on the floor, and opened it the right way.

Cliff grinned and held his wings steadily. He put his hands on his hips and looked up.

"Now I'm Robin!" He said. I giggled and started to close his wing.

"This is what it will feel like when you close your wing." I said. He nodded and closed his other wing.

"Perfect! Now do that twenty five times." I said. I opened my wings and closed them.

"This counts as one." I said he groaned.

"Aww, okay." He said. He sat on my bed and started doing the exercises while watching TV.

Once he was done with his exercises, I taught him how to fold his wings against his back.

The next day, Dad and I taught him how to fly. Little did I know, this started a life-long friendship that may blossom into much more.
