Chapter 3

  Two Years Later...

"Nosedive into the backyard." My dad said into my ear piece. I quickly did a nosedive into the cloud, my body hurtling toward my backyard. About twenty feet away from the ground, I quickly pulled my body up and stayed like that, lowering myself down to the ground. Dad applauded me sarcastically.

About a year ago, I didn't know how to fly at all. Now, I can fly at speeds up to sixty miles an hour. Seventy miles an hour is the fastest I have gone.

"Good. The last part was by far the best I have seen you do."

I smiled and took out my ear piece, folding my wings neatly against my back again.

"Thanks dad. What else are we going to do today?" I asked him. He looked back inside.

"I have some training today." He said.

"What? Today is Sunday though. No training on Sunday." I said. My dad has been holding an apocalypse training seminar Monday through Saturday.

"I know kid. Some parents are paying me double in order to train their kid as hard as I can." He said.

"How much?" I asked, referring to how much money he was going to get. The doorbell rang and Dad and I walked inside to get it.

Ever since I have gotten my wings, I have gotten way taller. I am 5'2 now. Dad molded me into his own personal body guard or secretary. He made me take some manners classes and made me more mature than a regular ten year old.

When Dad answered the door, two tall figures and a boy stood at the door. The woman was tall and had high cheekbones with short, black hair. She had a very formal black dress on with a white coat. She had piercing brown eyes and a long nose.

The man had brown hair and a small nose. He had hard blue eyes and wore a nice black tuxedo. Overall, he looked like he would be a strict dad.

"Mr. Ford, Mrs. Ford, welcome. Do you have the money?" Dad asked them. The woman pulled some cash out of her jacket.

"Ten grand, as we agreed." The woman said, handing my Dad the money. He took the money gladly and stuffed it in his pocket, grabbing the boys shoulder and roughly pulling him inside.

"Thank you. Your son will be new and improved once you see him again." Dad said. Mr and Mrs Ford nodded.

"Pleasure doing business with you." The father said. They shook hands and Dad slammed the door on their faces. He turned to the boy and said in a menacing tone,

"Looks like you'll be here for a while. Now go down in the basement, I will meet you down there." Dad said. The boy nodded and walked downstairs.

You couldn't tell that the boy was related to his parents, with his dark brown hair and blue eyes. He had a small nose and was about an inch taller than me.

"Hey Dad, how long is he staying with us?" I asked him. Dad smirked at me.

"Till he's 18." Dad said. My mouth hung open.

"Seriously?! Is he my new brother?!" I almost yelled at him. Dad rolled his eyes.

"No. His parents are paying me to train him every day. They will visit, obviously, but I was deciding to make this business an overnight camp thing." Dad said. I sighed.

"Alright dad." I said, watching Dad walk into the basement. Sighing, I walked upstairs and sat in my bed, watching TV while stroking my wings.

In a few minutes, I was sound asleep.

I awoke to a boy screaming. Probably the new kid. After all, he has never worked with my dad. Wiping some drool off my chin and wing, I turned the TV up louder, to tune out the screaming.

All of a sudden, Dad bolted into my room and said in one breath,

"Cliff is growing wings."

This caused me to jump out of the bed and sprint as fast as I could into the basement. Then, it didn't matter if my wings were dragging against the floor.

What I saw chilled metro the bone. There the boy was, with two bulges of skin popping out of his back. They were slightly long, and had black feathers at the top.

"Get him some painkillers!" I yelled. Dad ran upstairs and came back down with some painkillers and a glass of water. I pushed three painkillers in his mouth and gave him the water. He gulped it down greedily and screamed once again.

"We just have to wait it out now." I said, leaning back and watching him. I internally blocked out his screams and silently cried. This pain should not be cast against people. Yet it is. Sighing and wiping away my tears, I softly stroked his hair and his quickly forming wings.
