Chapter 13

River

I flew as fast as I could in order to get away from everyone. I didn't care if there was people recording. I didn't care if the news saw, I was too fast for them to actually see me. All they would see is a long, light grey cloud following where I flew. All they would hear, is the sound of my wings flapping. A few of my feathers fell out, but that didn't stop me.

I just wanted to get home and eat my pizza. Arriving on Long Island, I finally breathed in some fresh air. Smiling, I flew slightly higher and saw the Pizza Home car on its way to my house. I live in Huntington, and we were almost at my house. I flew directly over the pizza car. When it pulled into the driveway, I came down for a landing. The kid that was delivering the pizza walked up to my door. Before he could knock, I landed in front of him.

"Don't knock. My Dad is sleeping." I said. The kid gasped and took a few steps back.

"Who-who," he started.

"Don't freak out. I'm not going to kill you, just wait here." I said, I ran inside and grabbed my wallet. Running back outside, I saw the kid trembling in his boots. Rolling my eyes, I handed him the money, plus a ten dollar tip. Taking the pizza, I said,

"There ya go. Safe travels!" I beamed. The pizza guy blinked and ran back into his car, speeding away. Laughing, I turned around, before hearing a thud. Sighing and turning around, I saw Tanner standing there with a smile.

"That was quite a show." Tanner said. I frowned. Then started to smile, before I burst out laughing. Tanner started laughing as well.

"Want some pizza?" I asked when I calmed down. He smiled and nodded. We walked inside and sat at the table, eating the pizza.

We just sat there, eating and talking. He told me what happened while I was asleep. We each had five pieces of pizza, finishing off the whole box.

When we were done, we just sat in our chairs, a comfortable silence pouring over us as we thought.

"Um, what do you do for fun here?" He asked. I shrugged.

"Look around. Try and find some cool stuff." I said. He nodded.

"Let's look around for cool stuff." He said. I shrugged.

"Okay. Let's start in the basement." I said.

"Okay." He said. We walked downstairs and heard Dad leave. Smirking, Tanner walked into Dads office and started looking around.

"Wait, I can't go in there. Dad will murder me." I said. Tanner looked at me, a playful glint in his eyes.

"He won't murder me," Tanner said and continued looking. He opened a drawer and stopped.

"Hey River, you might want to see this." Tanner said. I walked over.

"What is it?" I asked. Tanner shoved some papers at me.

"Do you know what this means?" Tanner asked. I rose an eyebrow.

"No. What does it mean?" I asked. Tanner gulped.

"Your dad wants to make an academy where kids twenty five and younger can go get wings, train with them, and make the kids faster, stronger, and better flyers." Tanner said. My eyes popped out of my skull. Looking over the papers, I heard the door open and close. Footsteps started coming downstairs.

Shoving the papers at Tanner, he scrambled to put them away.

"What are you doing?" Dad asked, his hands on his hips.

"Uh-nothing." I said. Dad sighed and stared at us.

"Alright. So I am building an academy for kids twenty five and under. There, now even if you didn't know, you know now." Dad said. He started upstairs.

"So that's it?" I called to him.

"Yeah!" Dad yelled, walking upstairs. I scoffed and ran a hand through my hair.Tanners phone rang.

"Man, sorry River but I have to go. River just broke her wrist." Tanner said. I nodded and he went upstairs and left. I walked upstairs and grabbed a doughnut from the counter. Stuffing it in my face, I grabbed the box and went upstairs, turned the TV on, and ate my doughnuts.

A/N
Hey guys! This is a picture of River. I may or may not do a picture like this for everyone else in the book.
