CHAPTER NINE

Dean's leaning against Nycole, pinning her between his body and the side of the Impala. She's trying not to laugh as he leaves quick kisses all over her face.

"Will you just go get your brother already? He's been in that bathroom forever." Nyx says as she lightly pushes on Dean's chest.

"Man, you're no fun." He complains as he starts walking in the direction that his brother's in.

"I'm plenty of fun!" She calls after him.

He turns so he's walking backward as he goes. "Prove it!"

"Maybe later, if you're lucky!" She says, and he laughs as he turns back around.

The boys come back less than a minute later, and Sam looks awful. Nyx stands up straight as she looks at them.

"What's going on?" She asks.

"I had another vision. Come on, get in the car." Sam tells her, and she quickly climbs back into the front seat.

"I don't know, man. Why don't we just chill out, think about this?" Dean says as they drive down the road.

"What's there to think about?" Sam questions.

"I just don't know if going to the Roadhouse is the smartest idea."

"Dean, it's another premonition. I know it." He argues. "This is gonna happen, and Ash can tell us where. Plus, it could have some connection with the demon. My visions always do."

"That's my point. There's gonna be hunters there. I don't know if- if going in and announcing that you're some supernatural freak with a demonic connection is the best thing, okay?"

"Dean." Nyx lightly smacks his shoulder.

"So, I'm a freak now?" Sam questions.

"You've always been a freak." Dean says, trying to backpedal his way out of that slip.

"Don't listen to him. He's the freak." Nyx says, and Sam glances at her for a second.

The hunters walk into the Roadhouse later that night, and Jo smiles when she sees the three of them. Correction, Jo smiles when she sees Dean. "Just couldn't stay away, huh?" She asks him.

"Yeah, looks like. How you doin', Jo?" He asks.

"Hey, you're back." Carter says as he walks over to them. "Where's Jeremy?"

"Home — he's got school." Nyx tells him, and he nods.

"Where's Ash?" Sam asks as he walks up behind them.

"In his back room." Jo tells him.

"Thanks." He then walks away from them.

"And I'm fine."

"Sorry. He's— We're kind of on a bit of a timetable." Dean tells the blonde, and she nods.

"Come on. Before Sam's head explodes, and you have to clean it up." Nyx pulls Dean over there, and he looks down at her.

"Why would I have to clean it?" He questions, and she shakes her head as she smirks, looking back at him.

Sam's knocking on a door that has a sign reading Dr. Badass is In. "Ash." He knocks again. "Hey, Ash!"

Dean knocks on the door. "Hey, Dr. Badass." He calls through the closed door.

The door opens then, and Nyx sees a naked Ash standing there. She immediately turns around and walks away from them. Carter's busting up laughing, and she reaches across the bar and hits him.

"You are just as big an ass as I remember." She says, and he starts laughing even harder.

Ash walks out about a minute later, and Nyx keeps talking and laughing with Carter. He's always been just as funny as his dad. His dad was good friends with Grayson, so it's really not that big a stretch that he's also a hunter.

"So, I got a match. It's the logo for the Blue Ridge bus lines. Guthrie, Oklahoma." Ash says as Carter goes to clean a table.

"Okay, do me a favor. Check Guthrie for any demonic signs or omens or anything like that." Sam tells him.

"You think the demon's there?"

"Yeah. Maybe."

"Why would you think that?" He questions.

"Just check it, alright?" Dean says, and Ash looks at him for a second before he starts typing.

"No, sir, nothing — no demon."

"Alright. Try something else for me." Sam says as Nyx walks over to where the three boys are sitting. "Search Guthrie for a house fire." He says, and then tells him the year that he was born. "Fire's origin would be a baby's nursery, night of the kid's six-month birthday."

Jo and Carter both look at them as Dean and Nyx look at each other, then at his brother. "Okay, now, that is just weird, man." Ash says. "Why the hell would I be looking for that?"

Sam then places an opened beer in front of him. "Because there's PBR in it for you."

"Give me fifteen minutes." Ash says as Nyx looks over at Dean.

They walk over to the bar and sit down to talk. "Have you heard from anyone in Mystic Falls?" He asks, and she nods.

"They have a plan to kill Klaus." She tells him. "His father, Mikael, has a weapon that's supposed to be able to kill an original — a White Oak stake."

"And when's that happening?"

"Tonight." She says as a smile spreads across her face. "I should be getting a call from my sister soon to give me an update."

"That's great." He says, and she nods.

"Hey, walk with me. Tell me about everyone in Mystic Falls." Carter says as he walks past her and Dean.

"How much time do you have?" Nyx gets up and goes with him as he cleans up a few more tables.

She tells him the normal stuff because they're still surrounded by hunters and she doesn't want them to get any ideas.

Can't Fight This Feeling starts playing, and Nyx looks around to see who turned it on. It's Jo — the blonde then walks over to the bar and starts talking to Dean.

"I think she likes your boyfriend." Carter says, and Nyx nods.

"It would appear that way, wouldn't it?"

"And that doesn't bother you?" He asks, and she shrugs.

"Why would it?"

"Most girls would be pissed and laying down some kind of claim right about now." He says, and she smiles at him.

"I'm not most girls, remember?" She muses.

"No, you definitely are not." He agrees, and she chuckles as her phone starts ringing.

"Hey, Elena. Car—"

"It didn't work." Her sister cuts her off, and Nyx's eyebrows furrow.

"What?"

"The plan — it didn't work. Klaus is still alive." Elena tells her.

"What happened?"

"Stefan ruined it. Damon was about to kill Klaus, and Stefan stopped him." She says. "Klaus killed Mikael. Our only real shot at killing Klaus is dead."

"We have a match. We gotta go." Sam says, and Nyx looks up at him.

"Elena, I have to go. But are you gonna be alright?" She asks her sister.

"Yeah. Uh... I'll call you if anything else happens." The younger girl then hangs up.

"Nyx, let's go." Dean calls, and she stands up.

"Hey." Carter catches her hand and makes her face him. "Are you alright?"

She nods. "Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry about me." She forces a small smile and then leaves the bar with the boys.

The hunters are in the car not long after leaving the Roadhouse, and Dean's singing, but not with the radio. Nyx has heard him sing before and she loves his voice, but this is a little out of character for him. Especially with the case that they have going on right now.

That, and he's singing Can't Fight This Feeling by R.E.O. Speedwagon.

"You're kidding, right?" Sam asks.

"I heard the song somewhere. I can't get it out of my head." He tells him.

"Somewhere?" Nyx questions, and he glances over at her.

"I don't know. What do you got?" He asks his brother.

"Andrew Gallagher. Born 1983, same as me." Sam says. "Lost his mother in a nursery fire exactly six months later, also like me."

"You think the demon killed his mom?"

"Sure looks like it."

"How did you know to look for this guy?" Nyx asks him.

"Every premonition I've had, if they're not about the demon, they're about the other kids the demon visited. Like Max Miller. Remember him?" He asks.

"Yeah, but Max Miller was a basic little psycho." Dean argues.

"Point is he was killing people, and I was having the same type of visions about him. And now it could be happening all over again with this Gallagher guy." Sam says.

"So, how do we find him?" Nycole asks.

"I don't know. No current address, no current employment. Still owes money on all his bills — phone, credit, utilities."

"Collection agency flags?" Dean asks.

"Not in the system."

"They just let him take a walk?"

"Seems like it." Sam nods. "There's a work address from his last W-2 about a year ago. Let's start there."

The boys go into the place that Andrew used to work, leaving Nyx at the car while they ask questions. When they walk back out, they tell Nyx that they have to find a van that has a Barbarian queen riding a polar bear painted on the side.

"I'm sorry. I'm starting to like this dude." Dean says once the three of them are sitting in the Impala with eyes on Andrew's van. "That van is sweet." He chuckles.

Sam's not amused.

"What's wrong?" Nyx asks him.

"Nothing."

"Sam, you look like you're sucking on a lemon." Dean says. "What's going on?"

"This Andrew Gallagher — he's the second guy like this we've found." Sam says. "Demon came to them when they were kids. Now, they're killing people."

"Wait, wait, wait. We don't know what Andrew Gallagher is. Could be innocent." His brother argues.

"My visions haven't been wrong yet."

"What's your point?"

"My point is I'm one of them."

"No, you're not." Dean disagrees.

"Dean, the demon said he had plans for me and children like me." Sam says.

"Yeah."

"Maybe this is his plan. Maybe we're all a bunch of psychic freaks. Maybe we're all supposed to be—"

"What, killers?" Dean questions.

"Yeah."

"So, the demon wants you out there, killing with your minds? Give me a break. You're not a murderer, Sam. You don't have it in your bones."

"I'm gonna have to agree with Dean on this one, Sam." Nyx tells him. "You're not some murderous freak. If you're one of anything, you're one of us."

"Yeah, us — hunters. Last I checked, I kill all kinds of things." He says.

"Those things were asking for it." Dean argues. "There's a difference."

They look out the window, and Sam says he's got him. Dean and Nyx look to where he's looking and see Andrew walking out of a house. Then he looks up and waves at a blonde woman in a window. He keeps walking and then starts talking to some guy on the sidewalk. He gives Andrew his coffee and then just keeps on walking.

"Okay, that was weird." Nyx mumbles as Andrew walks over to another guy, shakes his hand, and starts talking to him.

"That's him, that older guy. He's the shooter." Sam says.

He's the reason that the hunters are now in Guthrie. Sam's vision was of the older guy walking into a store, loading a gun, killing a guy who works there, then putting the gun to his own head and pulling the trigger.

"Well, you keep on him. We'll stick with Andy." Dean tells his brother, and Sam quickly gets out of the car.

Andy gets into the van and starts driving somewhere else. Dean starts following him and then he stops, so they stop as well. Andy gets out of the van and starts walking over to them.

"Way to be inconspicuous." Nyx says as she smacks Dean's shoulder.

"Hey." Andy smiles as he bends down and looks in the car.

"Hey." Dean says.

"Hi." She smiles.

"This is a cherry ride." Andy says as he looks at the interior and the exterior of the car.

"Yeah, thanks." Dean says with a smile.

"Man, you know, '67 — Impala's best year, if you ask me." Andy says. "This is a serious classic."

"Yeah. You know, I just rebuilt her too. Can't let a car like this one go." Dean says.

"Damn straight." He agrees. "Hey, could I have it?" He asks as he looks between the two of them.

"Sure, man." Dean says and then they climb out of the car.

"Sweet."

"Hop right in there." Dean closes the door after Andy gets in. "There you go."

Andy then drives off in the Impala, and Nyx looks up at Dean. "Did that— Did that really just happen?" She asks, and he looks down at her.

"What the hell?" He mutters.

Dean's phone rings a couple minutes later, and he answers his brother's call. After talking to him for a minute, they go to find Sam.

"You know, you're a bigger geek than I first realized." Nyx says, and Dean looks down at her.

"What?"

"All the Star Wars references — he full-on Obi-Wan'd me." She repeats what he told his brother on the phone.

"Shut up." He says, and she laughs as they keep walking. "No, get away from me, you little punk." He pulls his hand away from her when she tries to intertwine their fingers.

"Hey now!" She takes his hand in hers again. "This is my hand. And this is my arm..." She says as she grabs his arm and wraps it around her. "And this is my side, 'cause this is my boyfriend."

Dean chuckles as she hugs him while they walk down the road. "Someone's getting possessive today." He smiles as he tightens his hold on her.

"Carter says that I should lay down this kind of claim in front of Jo." She tells him as she straightens out her posture, but they both keep an arm around the other as they walk down the street. "He thinks it's funny that I don't get jealous when she flirts with you."

"Jo?"

"Oh, don't lie. I know you know that she likes you." She says, and he shrugs.

"Don't make a difference whether she does or not." He says, and she smiles as she looks up at him.

"I know. That's why I don't get jealous when other girls flirt with you, or stare at you." She tells him. "Actually, I think it's funny, 'cause I know they can't do anything more than flirt and stare."

He chuckles. "You're twisted."

"You like it." She says, and he smiles as he leans down to kiss her.
