Chapter 16

Rook slashed his claws across Missing tail cat's face. Missing tail cat snarled angrily and swiped back. His claws caught Rook on the ear. Something seemed to take over Rook. With an angry yowl, he jumped up and threw himself on Missing tail cat. They tumbled to the ground. Rook drove his claws into Missing tail cat's sides. He felt them pierce Missing tail cat's sides. Blood flowed out. With a grunt, Missing tail cat threw Rook off.
"Don't do this," Missing tail cat spat. "I won't hurt you. You may have warrior blood but you are by no means trained. I won't hurt you. You just have to help me."
"You won't hurt my best friend either," spat Rook. "Because you'll be dead." Missing tail cat took a deep breath then swiftly lashed out at Rook. Rook felt sharp claws dig into the skin on his cheek. Then he felt his skin open. Burning pain in his face. Blood trickled out. Angrily, Rook hissed and leapt. Missing tail cat dodged. Surprised, but unmoved, Rook twisted around and bit into Missing tail cat's shoulder. He bit as hard as he could. He willed his sharp teeth to cut into Missing tail cat's skin. But before his teeth could pierce the skin, Missing tail cat whipped around and bit into Rook's ear. Then he tugged. Rook felt pain like never before. It seared through his whole body. He thought his ear was about to fall off. He whimpered and let go of Missing tail cat's shoulder. Rook broke free from Missing tail cat's grasp. He felt disorientated. His ear felt slightly floppy. Blood trickled down onto his cheeks. Rook lunged for Missing tail cat. Missing tail cat managed to duck and slice Rook down his side. This time, Rook fought through the pain and caught Missing tail cat's tail. He tugged hard. He felt his teeth pierce into skin and tighten on muscle. Missing tail cat grunted and threw Rook on the ground. He pinned him down. Rook struggled as Missing tail cat started to claw at his stomach.
"Hey! Get off! Piss off!" hollered an angry voice. Missing tail cat stopped and glanced up. Jeremy was charging towards them. Rook threw Missing tail cat off and hissed, lashing his tail.
"Don't you dare hurt my friend!" snarled Rook. "Next time, I'll kill you." Missing tail cat gave him a cold look.
"The offer still stands, until my friends are dead. I know about where you came from, remember that," Missing tail cats said softly. Jeremy reached the end of the garden and kicked Missing tail cat. Missing tail cat snapped angrily at Jeremy's ankle before fleeing. Rook collapsed to the ground. He wished he could tell Jeremy how grateful he was. Jeremy scooped him up gently in his arms.
"Oh Rook....., look at you," he mumbled. He brought Rook back to the house. Diana rushed to him.
"What happened? Oh my gosh, is he alright?" Diana gasped.
"We have to bring him to the vet," Jeremy said.
"I'll call her now," nodded Diana and rushed for the phone.
"Saffanah is going to be devastated," sighed Jeremy.
"Right let's take him to the vet. They're open," Diana said quickly. They brought Rook to the car and spread him on a small blanket on the back seat. Rook's eyes were barely open. He felt so tired. More tired than ever. But he couldn't sleep. He wanted to stay awake. His body ached and his muscles were crying out in pain. Rook felt the ground rumble. He felt his body shake. There was a roar and he felt as if they were lurching forward. The grumble was persistant throughout the whole journey. Until finally, Diana swung open the car door and fresh air blew in. Rook took a deep gulp of fresh air. Diana took him gently in his arms. Jeremy locked the car doors and they ran towards the vet. Rook felt like he was being thrown up and down as Diana ran. The wind whistled in his ears. The wind ruffled his fur. It felt good. He felt himself slipping. Then the air changed. It had a strange, sterile tinge. Rook could sense other animals. But they weren't exactly healthy. The air tasted weird.
"Hello, can we please see a vet now?" Jeremy asked urgently, leaning onto the front desk. The young man with bored looking eyes took his eyes of the computer screen.
"Our cat got into a fight," pressed Diana. The receptionist's eyes went to Rook. He suddenly was more sharp.
"Oh yeah of course. The vet's ready for you. I'll bring you to her," he said quickly, standing up. He led Jeremy and Diana down a corridor and into a room. A woman with her hair tied up and a happy smile strode to them.
"Hello, you must be Diana," she said. "Oh and this is the cat. Oh my. Please place him on the table." Rook felt  his body being lifted. He was placed on something unnatural and hard. HE let out a small meow of protest. Rook felt his eyelids closing. His body was falling asleep. He was too tired. He fell into oblivion.
