Chapter 9
Song - Little Do You Know by Alex & Sierra
Liana sat in front of me with a frown. Her eyes narrowed at me with her arms crossed over her chest. She had on a hot pink tank top that had a low v-neck, showing off her cleavage to the world and she had on a pair of short shorts, showing off her long legs that I was so jealous of.
"I hate you," she muttered with a straight face.
I gaped at her before throwing my head back and releasing a loud laugh. "Hey, it's not my fault I don't find Chris Hemsworth attractive." I defended.
Liana rolled her eyes and nudged my shoulder. We were sitting in the living room watching Thor. Liana was gushing about how hot he was meanwhile I tried to ignore her annoying, fangirling voice. "How do you not see him as a sexy god?"
I shrugged before popping some popcorn in my mouth. "I'm more of a Theo James kind of girl." I reasoned through a mouthful of popcorn.
She stared at me in disgust as she watched me stuff handfuls of popcorn into my mouth, dropping a few stray pieces here and there. "I don't understand how you're so skinny when you eat like a pig on steroids."
I chucked the popcorn that was in my hand at her, but she skillfully caught it with her mouth and stood up. I flashed her an evil grin as I quickly picked up the bowl and shot up, immediately walking towards her.
"Any last words?" I asked, a horrible evil cackle following after.
In one swift motion, all of the popcorn and un-popped popcorn kernels flew out of the bowl. Liana squealed and dove out of the way just as someone came walking into the room.
The smell of vanilla wrapped around my nose and my eyes widened in horror when I realized that I just threw popcorn at him. I gasped as I watched him get pelted with popcorn.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Liana cowering away. I turned back to a confused Nixon.
His green eyes grew in surprise. He eyed the popcorn as they landed on the floor before looking up. His lips were pulled into a tight line as he stared at me expectantly with raised eyebrows.
I tried to hold back a laugh which ended up sounding like an awkward cough. "Oopsies....?"
He scowled at me, but I couldn't help but notice how his peach lips twitched slightly as he fought back the urge to smile. I stared as I studied him.
He's such a confusing man. One second he's hurting me, the next thing I know, he's comforting me when I'm in a vulnerable state. And then he's all serious like every other Alpha out there.
Then there's the fun part of him that I know is there, but he doesn't display it. He has it hiding deep down inside of him, afraid of showing the world who he really is.
Someone cleared their throat, bringing me back to reality. When I realized that I was still staring at him, I looked down at the floor, feeling the blood rushing to my cheeks.
"Liana, training starts in 10 minutes. Don't be late." He said, using his Alpha tone.
Liana quickly nodded her head before bidding me a goodbye and heading out of the room.
Nixon and I stood in an awkward silence. It was so quiet that I could hear his heart beating at a somewhat normal pace. I could feel his heavy stare which made my body get this weird, giddy feeling.
I awkwardly knelt down and began picking up the pieces of popcorn and putting them back in the bowl.
Not a second later, Nixon's large form crouched down next to me and grabbed my wrist. "You don't need to do that." He said. He was really close, so close that his body heat blanketed around me.
"Why not?" I asked, my eyebrows knitting together.
"I'll have Liana clean it up later." He answered as if she was his servant. I could feel myself getting a little annoyed, or was it anger, but I held it back.
"What? No. I made the mess. Therefore, I should be the one to clean it up." He sighed and grabbed the bowl out of my hands. Then he stood up and placed it onto the table. I scoffed. "I'm fully capable of doing things myself, you know."
He rolled his eyes. "I'm aware of that, Trinity." My body practically froze as I relished the sound of his voice saying my name. It sounded so beautiful coming from his lips.
'Imagine what it would sound like if he moaned it,' Artemis said in a raspy voice. I gasped, 'Artemis!'
'Just imagine....' she whispered.
I tensed up as my mind immediately started thinking about it and I couldn't get it to stop.
Nixon took a step forward with a look I couldn't figure out as he sniffed the air. "What are you thinking about?" He asked huskily.
I shivered at out proximity. My mind was fogged over and I couldn't think straight. I nervously bit down on my bottom lip. "I-I....um," I cleared my throat, "I was wondering where this training is taking place."
It was half true. I actually did want to train. I loved training with my pack members.
Nixon frowned and shook his head. "Why so curious, little mate?" His eyes gazed at me.
"To train, duh." I responded as if he was stupid. He took a step back and laughed. It was a humorless one, but it still managed to make my heart skip a beat.
"Do you honestly think I'm going to let you?"
My anger began to surface again. I placed my hands on my hips, "Uh, yeah."
He smirked before moving towards the doorway. "Well think again." Before he could leave, I gripped the fabric covering his back.
"And why is that? Everyone else gets to do it," he turned around in frustration, "So why can't I?"
He ran his fingers through his hair, trying to come up with a reason as to why I can't train with the rest of his pack.
"Well...its just that...you're um," he averted his gaze as he tried to come up with words, "you're too-"
My stomach dropped. I knew what he was trying to say. Artemis growled as I clenched my fists in anger, trying not to let them get me into trouble. "You think I'm weak...." my voice shook slightly as I spoke just barely above a whisper.
"Look," he took a step forward and reached out to me, but I slapped it away, "that's not what I meant."
I scowled at him. "Then what did you mean, alpha?" I spat.
His eyes softened and he stuttered, "I-"
"If you think that I'm so weak, then fight me." I seethed. I don't know what I'm doing, but all I know is that I'm trying to prove myself to him. That I'm not some weak she-wolf.
His whole expression morphed into one of confusion. "What?"
I shoved him and he stumbled back in shock. "Fight me." I repeated a little slower this time. "You and me."
He chuckled bitterly. "I'm not going to fight you."
"Why? Afraid of getting beaten up by a girl?" I mocked. My mind wasn't straight. I'm pretty good at fighting if I do say so myself. Jordyn would always show me different ways and techniques of fighting.
He would always tell me that it would be good for me to be able to protect myself from other wolves during attacks, but I'm pretty sure he was just afraid of the perverted, unmated wolves in our pack.
I wasn't naive when I told Nixon to fight me. I knew that I had no chance against Nixon since he was an Alpha. Hell, he took on 20 rogues in one minute when they tried attacking his pack a few years ago. He could kill me while being blind folded and having his wrists tied behind his back.
"No!" He growled. "I don't want to hurt you. You'll get humiliated in front of the whole pack. You'll not only embarrass yourself, but me as well. I can't go around with everyone knowing that my mate is weak and can't protect her own pack like a Luna should!" So I'm not fit to be his mate? To be the Luna of this pack? Then what is the point of me being here if I'm not perfect for the role?
That stung like hell. What an asshole! Now I was beyond angry. Angry tears threatened to fall, but I was too livid to allow them to escape. My fist swung forward and collided with his cheek. He groaned as he cupped his cheek. His mouth fell open as he stared at me in shock.
His normal emerald eyes darkened as black swirled within their depths. He took a step towards me as I took one back. "You shouldn't have done that," he warned.
Ignoring the fear that was seeping through me, I smirked. "Well I guess now you're going to have to fight me." His eyes switched to red, sending a set of unpleasant, fearful shivers through my body. Those pair of red eyes seemed all too familiar to me.
He quickly grabbed my wrists tightly when I tried to get away from him. I gasped when I felt my body collide with a soft cushion. Nixon hovered over me, not one part of his body touching me besides my wrists.
My wrists were pinned above my head and my chest moved up and down as I breathed heavily. "Don't. Test. Me." he growled lowly in my ear, his lips slightly brushing my earlobe when he spoke and his hot breath fanning against the sensitive skin on my neck. I trembled slightly under him as I could feel his warmth above me.
My wrists began to hurt as his grip on them was too tight. I held back a whimper, not wanting to give him the satisfaction that he was looking for. "Will you just let me train?" I asked, my voice barely there.
He pulled back slightly so that he was staring into my eyes. "No." he replied as he studied my face. I pushed Nixon, but he didn't budge or even flinch. I tried again but it wasn't of any use.
"Then fight me." Nixon groaned in annoyance. He climbed off of the couch and angrily punched the wall, leaving a huge hole the size of his fist.
"Dammit, why are you so annoying?" he pinched the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger, "You're so persistent. Everything has to go your way."
I sat up. "Well I guess that's why the moon goddess decided that we should be paired up together as soul mates," I snapped, "Now are you going to fight me or are you too much of a coward?"
He gave me one more look before going to the door. When he noticed that I wasn't moving, he angrily turned to face me. "My patience are on a thin line right now, Trinity," he warned with a hard glare, "Are you coming?"
A smile broke out onto my face as I walked over to him. He rolled his eyes before exiting the house with me following close behind him.
He walked at a fast pace with me struggling to catch up to him because of my stupid short legs. It's not fair that he has long legs. One stride for him was like five steps for me.
We walked through the forest, passing trees that towered over us. Their green leaves blocked out the sun, creating a green blanket above us. I was excited to finally be able to see the other pack members. I've been stuck in Nixon's house without being able to go out and see the rest of the pack.
Would they like me? Or would they judge me just like Nixon did?
Off in the distance, I could hear voices of people talking to each other. We came to a clearing where a bunch of pack members scattered around the place. Some were just standing around talking while others were sparring. When everyone could sense their Alpha's presence, they immediately stopped what they were doing to look at him.
Then they all bowed their heads attentively and muttered 'alpha' in unison. He nodded at them in acknowledgement before walking to the front where everyone was.
I stayed where I was. I nervously leaned against a tree. I noticed some girls oogling over my mate's appearance. Both Artemis and I didn't really like that. There were so many flawless girls out in the crowd that I'm pretty sure at least one of them hooked up with my mate. That thought made Artemis growl under her breath.
Nixon cleared his throat before speaking, his voice booming and echoing throughout the forest, "Today is going to be different compared our normal training." Some of the members noticed me and stared at me curiously while others glared at me in disgust—mainly the females.
"I will be fighting someone in front of all of you. Now, I have a tip that would be very important when the time comes. Never challenge someone who is obviously more experienced. They'll obviously be stronger and more intelligent when it comes to self-defense." I frowned when I realized that he was embarrassing me in front of everyone. He's basically informing them of my stupidity.
I balled my fingers into fists when Nixon motioned me to come over. I felt everyone's eyes on me as I moved towards him. When I reached him, I left a reasonable gap between us. I crossed my arms across my chest and frowned at him.
"This is Trinity," he told everyone. "She's.....new to the pack and I'm here to show her what it takes to be a part of it."
My heart clenched when he didn't mention the fact that I was his mate. I noticed some of the girls smirk and nod their head in agreement to what their Alpha was saying while other members stared at me with sympathy.
"Watch every technique that I'll use. It will help you in the future." Then the crowd spread out to form a circle. He walked to the center of it. I gulped as I made a move towards the center, but a hand grasped my wrist.
I looked up at Liana's worried brown eyes. "What are you doing?" she shrieked. I honestly don't know.....
"He called me weak when he doesn't even know me. I'm here to prove him that I'm not. He judges me without giving me a chance. Mates aren't suppose to do that to each other." I told her with a frown.
She bit her lip as if she was thinking about what I had said before slowly nodding her head. "Okay..." she whispered, "I just want you to be careful. Alpha Nixon is ruthless. He shows no mercy."
I felt a sick feeling overcome me, but I tried to ignore it as much a possible. Walking slowly, I made my way over to where Nixon was standing. He took off the dark crimson shirt he was wearing and tossed it onto the ground at the edge of the circle.
A random girl quickly picked it up and brought it to her chest with a squeal. Another girl next to her snatched it from her and began sniffing it like some crazy person. Then both of the girls started bickering and yanking on the shirt.
My eyes widened when I saw his bare chest in front of me. He was shirtless last night, but I couldn't focus specifically on him. His chest was perfectly sculpted, like it was made by a professional. The lines were well defined and created a perfect six pack, not too muscular and not too flat.
Nixon wore a pair of athletic shorts that hung loosely on his hips. I could feel my mouth begin to water as I took in his appearance. When he noticed my staring, his lips curled up into a smirk.
I shook my head with a frown. He did that on purpose. He wants to distract me so that I wouldn't be able to concentrate. So he wants to play dirty? I glanced away. He's such a cocky bastard.
'A hot cocky bastard,' Artemis corrected. I rolled my eyes and blocked her out.
A man who I remembered seeing two days, I believe he's the beta, stood in between us with a nervous look. "Alpha, are sure you want to do this?" he whispered, "She's a girl..." My jaw ticked in anger.
"Sexist." I coughed under my breath with my first covering my mouth to make it seem like I was actually couching even though it sounded fake.
The beta turned around to look at me. His lips turned up into a small smile and he released a small chuckle. He winked at me playfully before leaning towards Nixon. "You got yourself a keeper."
"Tell me about it." Nixon muttered as he ran his fingers through his hair, his muscles bulging during the movement. I blinked a couple times, admiring the beautiful specimen in front of me, before placing my hands on my hips.
The beta looked at me for a couple more seconds before walking away. Nixon just eyed me as he crossed his arms over his chest. Caden came up to us with an uneasy look displayed on his face. He was frowning and his eyes held worry in them. He opened his mouth in hesitation, telling us the rules.
"There is only one rule and that rule is to fight until one of you submits. You can use any tactics as long as it is appropriate."
We both nodded before getting into fighting position. I parted my legs shoulder-length apart, bending my knees a little, balled my fingers into fists, and brought them close to my chest. Nixon did the same. We waited until Caden gave us the command to begin.
I nervously bounced lightly on my heels. What have I gotten myself into? I'm so stupid.
Oh moon goddess help me, I prayed silently.
Nixon and I began circling each other, not making any moves to attack each other. I obviously wasn't going to attack first because it wasn't really a smart thing to do. He was ready and would anticipate any of my moves, so I wasn't going to try. Jordyn use to tell me that if someone were to attack first, their opponent would sense it and be able to either block or dodge it.
"Well, are you going to show me what you got?" Nixon taunted with a smirk.
"Are you too afraid to make the first move?" I shot back. His smirk faltered. "You coward." He growled lowly and began advancing towards me. This is it. Because of his pride, my remark got him angry enough to make the first move.
When he threw his fist in my direction, I was able to dodge it easily even though it was a lot quicker than what I had expected it to be. His eyes widened in shock when he realized that he missed, so he tried again but missed.
My hand shot out and gripped his wrists. I allowed my nails to dig into his skin to help me get a better grip. I twisted his arms, causing him to released a pained groan. When I let go his wrists, I saw claw marks around his wrists. I suddenly began to feel bad, but I quickly dismissed the thought when I reminded myself of the things he's said to me.
You're crying again? That's all you ever do....
You'll not only embarrass yourself, but me as well...
I can't go around with everyone knowing that my mate is weak...
I didn't realize how angry I was until I felt my knuckles stinging. I glanced down at them and saw them bruising up. My head shot up and I saw Nixon with a busted up lip. He stood there frozen in his spot. His hand went up to his lips and wiped the blood away from his mouth.
I heard a few gasps and murmurs around us. By the way his eyes flashed with anger, I began to feel a little frightened by the way he was staring at me. His knuckles were turning white, the color of paper, as he clenched his fingers tightly.
His hand shot out and tightly gripped my neck. My hands immediately grasped his wrists again and tried to get his hold to loosen, but it didn't work. "Angry?" I teased with little air I had left. My voice was barely there, but I knew he heard me.
I glanced down at his feet. They were spread apart slightly, but enough for my leg to come up and kick him in the stomach. He immediately let go of me and groaned, his face morphing into one of pain. I used this opportunity to shove him away from him. He stumbled back and tripped over a rock, falling on his butt.
I stepped towards him and kicked his stomach again. While he clutched his rib, I shoved him so that he was on his back. With all of my strength, I pinned his wrists above his head with one hand and straddled his waist. I leaned forward and stared at his eyes. They held a predatory glint as he smirked.
"Kinky," he chuckled, "I rather like this position. Don't you?" I growled at him and dug my nails into his already cut wrists. He winced as I felt his sticky blood coat my nails.
I pulled my free hand back. "You think I'm weak?" I laughed bitterly. Then I allowed my fist to make contact with his jaw. His head flung to the side because of the force. When he turned back to look at me, his eyes were glowing red.
I could make out a bruise forming on his jaw. He started shifting under me so I pressed my thighs harder against his hips. My core was pressed against him and when I moved slightly, I felt him stiffen under me.
The back of his head fell back on the ground and he let out a groan. His Adam's apple bobbed as he roughly swallowed. I could feel something hard poke my inner thighs. A strange smell filtered the air and I shuddered when I breathed in the air. How is he aroused during a time like this?
His red eyes had yellow swirling in them. I bit my lip when I saw his strange eyes.
Shaking the thoughts away, I threw another blow but this time in the nose. Blood began to ooze out. I cringed slightly, but my anger took over my body. I was practically seeing red and I knew my eyes weren't their usual blue color.
I punched him repeatedly before he finally freed his wrists. Nixon's hands shot up to my waist, gripping it tightly, and he flipped us over, my back hitting against the hard ground. He pressed his hard body to mine and used his arm to lock my hands to the ground.
His minty breath tickled my face as he spoke, "You're making a big mistake." I already knew that. He moved his hand up to my face and slowly trailed the pads of his fingers down my cheek. "I don't want to hurt you," his voice held sadness, "but you brought this upon yourself."
I felt a sharp sting when his hand slammed against my cheek. I sucked in a sharp breath and flinched. I squirmed underneath him. He leaned forward so that his nose lightly grazed mine. I moved my mouth up to his nose and bit down on it. Nixon released a scream and pulled away from me.
Anger swirled in his eyes as he cupped his nose. Then he balled his fists and it was then that I realized that he released my wrists. But right when I was about to take advantage of that, his fist flew to my face. Fortunately, I saw it coming and moved my head to the side. His fist hit the ground next to my head.
The weight of his bottom on my front lifted as he leaned forward to punch my face again. I released a strangled cry as his balled up fingers landed on my chin. My teeth bit down on my tongue in the process and I could already taste the copper in my mouth.
A crack rung through my ears when he repeatedly punched my nose. All everyone could hear was the sound of his skin making contact with mine.
Liana was right. He doesn't show anyone mercy. He's a ruthless Alpha. I'm really stupid for doing this, but my ego was wounded by the words that came out of Nixon's mouth. I'm sure he wouldn't like it if someone said those hurtful things to him. He's a jackass and he needs some sense knocked into him.
I could feel warm blood oozing out of the cuts on my face as well as my nose. All I could feel was excruciating pain. My body felt weak as it shook under him. My head was pounding and my ears were ringing.
All I felt was loneliness. Even though my mate is right there in front of me, he's not showing any signs of wanting me. Even though Liana and Caden are right there in the crowd, it still felt like they aren't. The pack members just stayed there, taking in everything their Alpha was doing. A stray tear rolled down my cheek, but it was the only one.
'His legs are open above your's,' Artemis spoke up inside my mind. The feeling of being alone disappeared as I remembered that I still had her with me. 'Kick him!' She was right. He hovered over my legs with his spread apart. His thighs were lightly brushing mine.
Without wasting any more time, my leg shot up. His face contorted as my knee hit the bump in between his legs. I shoved him off of me by punching him in the face. He fell to the side, doubling over in pain.
He winced and buried his face into the green grass below him. My heart clenched. It caused me so much pain knowing that I'm hurting my mate even if he hurt me. Artemis whimpered when she saw Nixon's pained face.
I stood up and got back into fighting position, waiting for him to get back up. I would've gone over there to do what he did to me, but I felt like kicking him in the balls was a bit low and that it was enough. I wiped my hand across my nose and I felt the warm liquid drip onto it. I looked down and saw my hand covered in it.
Glancing around, I noticed everyone gaping at me and their Alpha, who was struggling to compose himself. Their eyes were the size of giant Oreos. I caught Liana's worried eyes. I tried to flash her a reassuring smile but it was more of a grimace because of the pain in my jaw, nose, and head.
Nixon rolled onto his stomach, using the last bit of strength he had left to push himself off of the ground. When he got onto his two feet, he turned to stare at me. His glowing red eyes made my heart beat pace faster than it was before. He moved towards me, slightly limping along the way.
I began taking steps back when he started getting closer. Nixon looked beyond livid. Fear crept all through me when I stared into his familiar red eyes. My back bumped into someone's hard chest and I looked back to see a guy smirking at me before shoving me forward with a lot of force.
I stumbled into Nixon who punched me in the stomach, ignoring the fact that another male had touched me. I clutched my stomach as I began coughing. He allowed his fist to hit my cheek and then my throat. I gasped for air as the wind was knocked out of me. Every single time his fist touched me, the more the mate pull disappeared. The more I felt as if I was getting rejected. Like he didn't want me anymore.
That pain was worse than the pain of him hurting me.
He seemed to notice this too because the more he punched me, the angrier he got. My body shook violently as my legs threatened to give out from under me. He swung one more time before my limp body fell onto the ground.
Everyone cheered, thinking the fight was over. He might've been, but not me. Nixon peered down at me from above. His face held numerous emotions and his eyes returned to their green color, just a little duller.
He hovered over me and cradled my head in his large hands. "I...I-I told you this was a bad idea," he croaked, "You proved nothing to both me and my pack." He brushed his thumb across my bleeding lips. I felt my stomach deflate.
All of the pain that I was feeling vanished as I processed the first three words he just said to me. You proved nothing. He still thinks I'm weak, even after what I'd done to him. I growled at him. "If you think that I'm so weak and an embarrassment to you and your pack, that I'm not fit to be the luna, then why don't you just reject me already?" I snapped.
Artemis whimpered and Nixon froze. He pulled back slightly as he stared at me with wide eyes. His lips slowly parted and his chest moved up and down as he breathed heavily. His lips turned into a frown and his fists began to clench. "Don't. Say. That." he gritted out in a low voice.
"Why? You don't act like you care about me," I pushed on, "All you've done is hurt me and push me away. If I'm not treated the way a mate should be, then I think it's best if you'd just reject me. It'd be better that way. Then you won't be stuck with me and I won't be stuck with sick bastard like you."
A loud growl erupted from his throat as his eyes went back to their creepy red color. I could practically see dark brown starting to poke out from under his tan skin. His teeth grew into canines and his nose and mouth were morphing into a snout.
I stared up at him as I watched his wolf try to come out. His nails on his fury hands extended and he swiped at my face.
I cried out as a cut formed on my face and blood seeping out. Gasps filled the air as everyone saw their Alpha about to shift in front of them.
Hands grabbed onto Nixon's shoulders to try and calm him down but he spun around and punched them in the face. I gasped when I saw Caden fall to the ground, cupping his jaw.
Nixon turned around and released a vicious growl. He tried to swipe at me again but I quickly rolled out of the way.
The beta quickly intervened by shoving Nixon out of the way. He stumbled to the ground and a bunch of men ran over to Nixon to hold him down.
Liana rushed over to me and grabbed my arm. "C'mon, we have to go," she spoke in a worried tone. Caden got up and lifted me up when he saw me limping.
"What's happening?" I asked when I saw Nixon struggling to get up. He was still in human form, his bones still haven't shifted yet, but he had fur sticking out and his snout.
"Full moon is tonight," Caden replied. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"So?"
Both Liana and Caden glanced at each other, trying to find an answer to my question. "You'll find out soon," Liana finally answered.
I felt shivers crawl up my spine when I heard Nixon's shouting, "Get back here you bitch!" I could feel my heart break at the hurtful word. What did I do to make me a bitch? He started shouting at the men to let him go so that he could finish the fight.
When his eyes met mine, all I could see was the beast from my nightmares. Their eyes looked so similar that it was as scary as hell. I flinched a little when he snarled at me.
He got even angrier when he saw me in Caden's arms. "We have to get you away from him," Caden said.
I gave one more sad look Nixon's way before Liana and Caden began taking me away from the clearing.
"What are they going to do with him? What if he comes home and hurts me?" I asked fearfully. Just the thought of him barging into his house and attacking me made me feel nauseous because I knew he was capable of killing me.
"They're going to lock him up in the cellars." Caden responded.
"The cellars?" I couldn't comprehend the idea of what their cellars are like. I've heard many rumors about how disgusting it is down there. People said that it reeks of blood, rotten flesh, and mold. "Why would they take him there?"
Caden sighed and scratched the back of his neck. "It's.....happened before. Everyone realized that is was the best place for him during this...time."
"What do you mean by 'it's happened before'?" I put air quotes for emphasis, "What's happening to him?"
"Again, you'll find out soon." Liana replied.
We all fell silent as they took me to the pack doctor's house. I winced every time I shifted in Caden's arms, feeling both emotional and physical pain.
What the hell is happening to Nixon?
