Chapter Three

Annabeth's POV

I discussed what I had saw over dinner to the seven, Thalia and Nico. They seemed quite confused about it. "Last I knew, Percy wasn't one to cry, nor was he gay," Thalia mumbled.

Nico's eyebrows furrowed. "He's bisexual. Did you not know that?"

"Uh, no!? How do you know?!" I exclaimed confusedly, turning to face Nico with a bewildered look on my face

"Oh." Nico got a surprised look on his face. "He told me that he was right after the war. He looked scared out of his mind. I'm surprised he didn't tell you, Annabeth."

"Doesn't matter," I said hastily, eager to change the topic.

The others glanced at me, giving me skeptical looks as they ate. Two forms walked into the dining pavilion, whom I immediately recognized as Angel and Alpha.

"We are back, surprise surprise," Angel said with an eye roll. "Alpha just had to throw a hissy fit."

"Fuck off Angel," Alpha growled, glaring at him.

They had their hoods and masks off, which came as a surprise to many. "Anyways," Angel said, clearing his throat and rolling his eyes, "we are going to be staying at camp Half-Blood for the majority of the war."

"Excuse me, why was I not informed of this?" Alpha asked, scowling and glaring at Angel. "I'm not doing that."

"Yes you are. We will be staying in a cabin we built-"

"We? I didn't even know it existed, but okay."

"We thank you for your hospitality-"

"I'm pretty sure they wanted to kill us."

"-and will inform you on the war tomorrow," Angel continued, speaking as if Alpha never had. "Any quick questions?"

"Why are you ignoring me?"

Angel looked around at us, completely ignoring Alpha's question. "No? Alright. We will be going to get some rest. Our cabin is in the general proximity of Zeus' fist in case we are needed, but only get us in emergencies please."

As they were about to turn around, I raised my hand. "Question for Pe- Alpha."

Alpha froze, and slowly turned to face me. "And that is?" His voice was thick and sounded pained.

"Where did you go, after you killed yourself?"

Angel seemed a bit taken aback and bit his bottom lip as he looked at Alpha, who had his mouth open, but there were no words spilling from his mouth. He closed his mouth again. The entire pavilion was dead silent. "I thought he died on a quest," a camper spoke up after a few moments.

Alpha turned to face the kid, then spun on my table. "Is that what you told them? That I had died on a quest?"

"I was against the idea," Nico spoke slowly after an awkward silence. "However, we agreed for the topic of it might be too harsh for the younger campers."

"Well guess what? They're going to have to deal with worse than simply hearing that someone killed themselves," Alpha hissed. "This is a tough life and this camp is a haven, I understand, but you can't hide them from truth or it's going to terrify them more when it happens to them in person. It's truth, at least one person in this very room is going to commit suicide. That doesn't mean I or anyone else is going to like it, but it's going to happen, and people need to know that it's something that happens. I'm not asking you to describe my death in extreme gruesome detail. All I'm asking is for you to inform and help them understand that sometimes it happens." Alpha seemed choked up and pained at the subject. "Now are you going to explain or am I going to have to?"

Everyone at my table, and in the pavilion, was in stunned silence. No one had ever heard Percy so passionate about something. Some younger camper spoke. "Who are you mister?"

Percys harsh and pained look melted. "I'm someone who came to this camp a while ago. I-"

"He's a hero," Chiron interrupted, speaking boldly. Tears brimmed in his weary eyes. "This is the hero. The one that everyone should aspire to be. I feel ashamed that I agree to hide his true path. I have made a dear mistake, my son, and I apologize deeply. Now, if you'll allow me to call you by your name, Perseus, I'd like you to tell the story of your death."

Percy got wide eyed slightly, but set his mouth into a straight, determined line and nodded formally. Luke took his hand and squeezed it gently. "Perseus Jackson?" a teen girl asked, squeaking slightly, looking over at Percy with wide eyes. She had been probably five when she was sent to camp. "I remember you. When I was really young I was feeling down and undetermined about my fighting you trained with me personally after every lesson, even though you weren't supposed to."

The corners of Percys lips quirked up slightly, and before he could speak another person did. "Oh yeah! He helped me too!" Another kid spoke, standing. "I was crying because of a nightmare I had about my abusive mother and he consoled me and stayed up all night with me talking, even though I was probably seven!"

Kid after kid spoke, recalling with happy looks about all the times Percy had helped them. About half the kids had spoken, before Leo slowly stood from his spot. Percys eyes traveled over to Leo and got a curious look.

"He helped me feel wanted when I felt like someone who wasn't needed. He gave me company when I felt alone, despite my obvious bitterness towards him in the beginning." Leo spoke boldly, but an underlining tone of pain was obvious.

Piper stood. "He helped me whenever I was upset or on the verge of tears. He helped me best he could, even though we never got really close. I regret that now."

Jason was next. "He helped me with my self confidence. I felt required to live up to my legion standards and be the best because of my parentage, but he helped me realize that I'm the best me I am, and built me up on things I insisted on improving, always being optimistic about my situation." (THE SKY IS A NEIGHBORHOOD)

Nico hesitantly stood. "I have so much to say, it's insane how good of a person he is. We all took that for granted. He helped me with my sexuality when I was feeling extremely uncomfortable with it. He helped me with my depression and lack of self belonging, slowly bringing me into the more social me now. He everyone so much, and we didn't bother to even try to help him." Nico flinched as his spoke, his eyes glossy and crystalized.

I gripped the edge of the table, tears making my vision fuzzy as I stood, staring at the table. "Percy, you... You saved my life on countless occasions. You loved and cared for me in the moments that I was terrible for you. What I did... I deeply regret. I have nightmares about it every night. I'm not asking for you to take me back or anything like that. I was overwhelmed and impulsive, and I'm so sorry.  I just want to know if you still hate me."

I eventually looked up after a long silence. Tears were in Percy's eyes. "I could never hate you, Wise Girl."

I couldn't help the grin that spread across my face as a sob left my lips, tears dripping down my face. "I'm so, so sorry."

Percy, for the first time, actually smiled. It was weak, faint, pained, but still there. "Understandable seeing the situation." He flinched and I could see him squeezing Luke's hand throughout his sentence.

Luke leaned over and whispered something in Percys ear before gently kissing below it. Percy nodded and turned to face the pavilion as a whole, clearing his throat. "So as you now know, my name is Perseus Jackson. I committed suicide over twenty years ago. And if I'm allowed to speak, I'll share my story."

A proud, sad look overcame Chirons face as he nodded. "Of course."

Percy took a deep breath and started to speak.
