Falling Hard - 9.

Melody's POV

I wake up after a three-hour nap. Looking at the iPhone 15 Pro, I say, "Please, ring. I need something to get me off everything that's happened to me in the last couple of days."

When it doesn't ring, I pick up the magazine my sister left behind and begin to flip through the pages. I stopped at pictures of me in my wedding dress.

I looked good in that dress. It's a shame the groom didn't think I was worth it. If I get married, I will ensure it's what the groom wants.

As I continued to go through the magazine, I saw a picture of Evan Wilson and Ariana Houston. They are holding hands and looking lovingly into each other's eyes. In the following image, they are kissing, and it doesn't bother them that their PDA will make its way into a magazine

If this were Dalton and me, he would be pissed that people are following us around and taking pictures behind our backs. He was lucky that I kept him away from the press. If they knew who he was, they would have a field day and harass him, which he deserves. But he dodged a bullet when it came to him and me.

Aliyah walks into the room and sits next to my bed. "Have you received the call yet?"

I shake my head. "I don't think it's going to happen, Aliyah. Can we think of something else I can do while I'm on a break if it doesn't happen?"

She looks me in the eyes. "'I'll work on it when I get to the office. Your mom will stop by later; she got called into the office. Maggie will stop by soon. She's out with her friends right now. They went to the movies."

It's good that my sister is hanging out with her friends instead of staying in the hospital with me. She should be with them, not here with me.

Aliyah and I talked for half an hour before she told me that she had to go to the office and finish a few things related to my world tour. "Call me when you hear from them. There might be a time difference from where they are." She walked out of the room.

Once the door closes, I hear the phone ring. I look at the new phone and see a number on the screen.

I get to find out if I got the job.

I put the phone on loudspeaker before answering it.

Me: Hello, this is Keegan.

Voice: Hello, my name is Hunter Westbrook.

I cut him off.

Me: Did I get the job?

He laughs, and it sends tingling sensations around my body.

Hunter: Yes, you did. Can you meet us at Westbrook Airfield, which is located in Burbank?

Why is he asking me to meet him at his airfield? Does he want me to fly with him and his family?

Me: Of course, I can meet you there. When are you flying out?

Hunter: We're leaving at noon on the 30th of November.

Me: I'll be there. Can I tell you something?

Hunter: Sure,

Me: I wasn't expecting to hear from you, but I'm so happy you did. I'm looking forward to working closely with you.

Hunter: Bye, Keegan.

Me: Bye, Mr Westbrook.

He hangs up the phone, and I look at it.

I got the job. Now, I'll be out of my head for three months. I hope there are some instruments for me to play. There's no way I will give up singing while I'm away.

Maggie walks into the room and sits on my bed next to me. "What are you so happy about, Mel?"

"I got the job at the Chateau. I'm leaving for the French Alps on the 30th of November.

She hugs me. "That's great, Melody. I hope you find someone to help you get over, Dalton."

I laugh. "You want me to find a rebound guy?"

"Yes, then you can return home and be my sister again. The one that didn't push her sister aside because her boyfriend wanted to keep her to himself."

It looks like Dalton did a number on me, and I just didn't realise it. He didn't let me see much of my family while we were together because it was better for us to stay inside our house away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi, who wanted to photograph me anytime I stepped out.

I didn't mean to ruin my relationship with my sister. She's the closest I've had to a best friend in a long time, but everything I cared about got pushed away when Dalton and I got together. I will not make that mistake twice.

"What did the guy sound like?" Maggie asks, interested in knowing more about the guy I will work for when I get to the French Alps.

"He's American. With a sexy voice. If the guy sounds that good, I hope he looks just as good."

Maggie laughs. "I can't wait to hear stories about him when you get to the Chateau. If you find love again, remember I'll always be happy for you. No matter what." She kisses my cheek.

"Thanks," I look at my sister before saying. Maggie, are there any guys in your life?"

Maggie's face turns red, and she looks at her hands. "Do we have to talk about me? My life isn't as interesting as yours."

Lifting her chin. "I'm interested in everything you do. Please, talk to me about this. I want to help."

Maggie nods. "There's this guy I like, and I don't know how to tell him. How am I going to get him to notice me when there are cheerleaders around him all the time?"

She's interested in a popular guy. I know exactly what she's supposed to do.

Looking around the room, I try to find my bag, and when my eyes land on it. I say. "Maggie, can you get my purse? There's something I need from inside."

Maggie stands and walks over to the purse. She places herself on the bed next to me. "What are you doing?"

"Do you remember when we were younger and you used to sing back-up for me?"

"Yeah," Maggie looks out the window, avoiding my gaze with mine. "Why?"

"You're going to write a song for him and sing it." I pull a number up on my screen. I will get a friend to come here to help find the notes for the song.

The phone rings a couple of times before Jesse picks up.

Jesse: Melody, are you okay?

Me: I'm fine. Can I ask for a favour?

Jesse: Sure. I'd do anything for my fav girl.

Me: My sister is writing a song for a guy, and we need someone to help her put some notes together so that she can perform it.

Jesse: Give me half an hour and I'll come by.

Me: I'll send you the address.

Jesse: Thanks, ... he's quiet for a moment. Mel, I heard what happened. I can't believe that piece of shit would do that to someone as beautiful as you.

Me: Thanks. Him leaving me is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I don't want to be stuck in a relationship going nowhere.

Jesse. I'll see you soon.

ME: See you then.

Once the call ended, I looked at my sister and said, "He will be here soon." I texted him the address of the hospital, along with the floor and room numbers. I gave her a pen and paper. We began to work on the song until Jesse got here.

Magie smiles at me. "This is going to be a great song, sis."

"If it's a success, I'll ask Aliyah to give you some studio time to release the single. I want credit alongside you for writing it, and maybe you should add thanks to the friends who're coming here to help as well."

Maggie crosses her arms. "Which friend do you have coming here?"

The door to the room opens, and Jesse Cole from Midnight Sun walks in. He looks directly at Maggie and says. "Hey, I'm Jesse. You must be Maggie."

Maggie screams and runs over to him. "I can't believe my sister is letting you work with us on the song. I'm a huge fan of yours." She gushes over him.

Jesse chuckles at her. "It's good to see that my friend's sister is a huge fan of mine." He turns to me. "How does it feel knowing that your sister isn't a fan of yours?" He teases.

Maggie's mouth drops open. "I didn't say I'm not a fan of Melody Stryker. I'm the number 1 fan of hers. You're just a close second."

That makes Jesse and me laugh.

"Maggie, he's teasing you." I continue to laugh at her.

Maggie's face becomes red. "Can we work on the music for this song? I want to get to know it before I perform it tomorrow."

Jesse sits across from her. "If you can learn all this by tonight, you are as great as your sister. I remember we were touring a couple of years ago, and she wrote a song on the bus. By that night, she gave us the music to it, and she performed the newest song, which sent the crowd wild."

"I'm just that good." I shrug.

He starts playing around with some chords on the guitar, and Maggie makes notes. It takes a couple of hours until they come up with something that works perfectly for the song.

Maggie takes the guitar from him and plays the song. Her voice is beautiful, and I am happy to see her performing something close to her heart.

The door to the room opens, and Mom walks in. She stops just inside the door and watches her youngest daughter.

A crowd begins to move towards the ward as Mom leaves the door open, and everyone watches in awe.

She looks up as she finishes the song. "How was that?" Everyone starts clapping and whistling, giving her the answer she wanted. "Thank you."

"That was fantastic. I can't wait to see you perform it tomorrow at school."
