Squid's POV

I woke up in a cell, light steaming in through the small barred window, which was higher than I could reach. I sat up on the uncomfortable bed and felt my head, there was something soft on it, and I realized it was bandages.

I sighed and looked around. The cell was nothing special, there was the small window, the bed, a toilet and sink, and at the front, there were bars and an iron door. I walked over to the bars and proceeded to shake them, seeing if any were lose, or brittle enough to break. Unfortunately, there were none. I walk over to the door and pull my silver dagger from my pocket and start picking the lock. As I'm about to get the door open, I hear footsteps, I curse under my breath and quickly put the dagger back in my pocket, as to not get it taken.

I look down the corridor that the footsteps are coming from and to my surprise, sky is walking towards my cell. I laugh slightly and he looks at me, shaking his head a bit.

"You sure have gotten yourself into quite a predicament haven't you?" He asks, standing in front of me, on the other side of the bars, of course.

I rolled my eyes, "obviously, so, what are you doing here?" I question, raising an eyebrow.

"I've been sent to ask you some stuff," he says, shrugging slightly.

"Oh," I say, "what kind of stuff?"

"About the squid army, and what they're planning."

I nod, "well, luckily you've got the right person" I say. I grab a small book and a pen from my back pocket. I go to the back of the book and tear out a page, scribbling a few numbers on it.

I hold the book and paper out to him, "only read the pages written down on the paper," I tell him, "the pages are numbered, also, if you read anything else, and I learn you did," I look him dead in the eye "you'll be sorry."

He nods and grabs the book and paper. "Thanks," he says, "I'll take this to my office and bring it back when I'm finished with it." And he walks off, leaving me alone once again.

Sky's POV

I walked back to my office, book in hand, there are various papers peeking out and the cover is worn. I sit down, and look at the paper, and then the book, debating whether I should follow his instructions. I sigh and put the paper on my desk, and open the book to the first page.

'Squid's Journal' it reads, 'read this without my permission and you'll have a knife through your chest faster than you can say mercy.'

'Dang,' I think, 'how many people have read this before?' I shake my head and continue on, the next page is blank except for a small number 2 on the bottom right corner.

The next page is filled completely, the writing is small and squished together, making it a bit hard to read, and in a few places the words were smudged or crossed out.

I skimmed through a few more pages, taking a couple of notes as I read. But one section really caught my eye, and I decided to read it all and not just skim through.

'I have the feeling that Squillium is trying to keep something from me. He won't let me go anywhere outside the castle, and when I do try to leave, I'm questioned by him, or whoever catches me. I tell them that I want to fight, however I've only been trying to escape this place. I don't want to be a part of whatever this is, I've managed to almost steal a few files and when I do manage to take them, I'm planning to take them to the 'enemy' to use against my father. I know they keep multiple copies of everything, so they won't suspect that anything is missing. I'm supposed to be the prince, but I hate the idea that I'll have to run this someday. I don't want to kill people, I just want peace between us all. Or, at least be able to fight against these imbeciles. Im planning on writing down everything I hear, or find out through the files. And I'm hoping that After I get enough information, that I can finally leave here, and that I can help whoever I join to learn about what my father is planning. I wish he knew that I don't want to be a part of all of this. That I'm nothing like him, my mother was a human, and I've taken after her in nearly every way. And this war started because of her death. She was captured and killed by someone of the sky army, but I want to know the true reason, and not just fight blindly against the people, like my father has. If I'm going to fight, it'll be for a damn good reason, and not for nothing, like it has turned to.'

My eyes widened, I literally could not believe what I had read. He was the squid prince? His mother was human? How long has he been trying to escape before writing this? I look at the paper on my desk, and pick it up. I read through the numbers and flip to the first one written down. This is going to be very useful in taking down the squids.
