Chapter 3
"Wake up child" The cat said sitting on my stomach, waking me up.
"What is it cat?" I asked sitting up and rubbing my eyes, the cat now sitting next to me.
"Your Aunt is talking with your mother downstairs at the moment, I thought you would like to know what is being said." The cat replied jumping off the bed. I got up and followed the cat we stopped behind a wall so we wouldn't be seen.
"Aisling it's for the best." A female voice who I assumed was my aunt said.
"What, are we supposed to do pack up and just leave, that is going to raise suspicions." My mother replied
"Would you rather let that servant of Set take Morgan away?" My aunt asked.
"Surely there is some other way, a charm, a spell, something?" My mother asked pleadingly.
"I'm sorry this demon has Morgan's scent and spiritual marker it will be able to track her and i'm not powerful enough to cloak her." My aunt replied.
"The best thing you can do for your family is to travel with me. Let me teach the girls to control their abilities, to defend themselves."My aunt pleaded to my mother.
"I want them to have a normal life Maya not a life where they are constantly in danger." Mother retorted.
"They will never have normal lives they are descended from Morgan-le-fay, they are witches no matter how much you want to deny it." Aunt Maya said to my mother in an irritated tone. Sorcha had obviously woken up by the argument and joined the cat and I in eavesdropping.
"The answer is no Maya."Mother stated.
"Well let's ask them shall we. Girls it's impolite to eavesdrop don't you know?" Aunt Maya asked having caught us. The three of us entered the living room. Aunt Maya was obviously from my father's side having the same complexion as me as well as the same dark hair the only difference was that both of her eyes were icy blue.
"What is happening?" Sorcha asked confused
" Your mother is being unreasonable." Aunt Maya replied.
"Me being unreasonable, you want us to leave our entire lives behind." My mother yelled at aunt Maya.
"If you and your daughters stay here you will be in danger." Aunt maya retorted.
"We will be in danger even if we go with you." Mother yelled.
"But you will be in less danger than if you stay here." Aunt Maya replied coldly.
"I have to go to school." I said still wearing my clothes from yesterday. I left the house as the bus went by but I didn't want to go back inside so I decided to walk to school.
"Why are you walking all alone." A dark skinned bald man in a business suit asked after I was a good third of the way there. I realized that I had left the charm and the cat at home so the alarm bells in my head started going off.
"Don't worry child Morgana can't hurt you as long as I am with you, I would not allow it." The man said giving me a kind smile.
"Who are you." I asked
"I'm an old family friend, I knew your father." The man
replied we walked in silence for a time.
"What are your thoughts on being a witch?" The man asked.
"I don't know the first thing about being a witch so I can't decide." I replied.
"You should make that cat you're familiar." The man stated.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"The life force in that cat is fading he will die if he doesn't become someone's familiar. If you give him a name and your blood he will be tied to you and will live." The man replied as we reached the school and stopped. I kept walking for a moment before turning around only to see the man had disappeared. I had gotten to school early so I went to the library where I searched for anything I could find about witches and egyptian myths. The first book I found was a book about egyptian myths. I looked through it until I came across a picture that resembled the being I always saw in my nightmare, under the picture was the name Set. I read the page and learned about how he was the protector of Ra and how he killed his own brother. The book claimed that Set was a god of change, desert, storms, and Foreigners, it also stated that he was represented by serpents and the beasts that had torn my father apart, the set animal. I grabbed a few other books about witchcraft and checked them out before going to my locker and gathering my stuff for class. The school day passed quickly after school I headed for the library and checked the books back in before heading home this time not missing the bus. At my stop I got off the bus and saw Morgana standing next to a lamp post just a bit down the street. The cat came running down the street and placed himself between the girl and I hissing and growling. I noticed that some of his fur had turned gray Morgana no longer seemed frightened of him and started walking towards us. I bit my finger hard enough to draw blood and knelt down next to him before petting his back rubbing my blood into his fur.
"Don't..." the cat started as he turned towards me having figured out my goal.
"I name you Rameses." I yelled causing a glowing red rope to connect the two of us before disappearing. I saw that Rameses' fur had turned back to jet black, Morgana responded to this by screaming and disappearing. Aunt Maya, Sorcha, and mother ran out of the house and to Rameses and I.
"What happened?" aunt Maya asked as mother frantically checked me over.
"This foolish child made me her familiar." Rameses replied harshly before walking towards the house. I made to follow just wanting to lay down and take a nap. Once inside I saw three suitcases and two travel trunks.
"Pack your stuff Morgan we are leaving tomorrow morning." Mother stated handing me a single suitcase and a travel trunk. I went up to my room and sat on the bed Rameses trotted into my room and jumped onto my bed he butted my arm with his head.
"Stop feeling so sad, what you feel I feel to if you don't put up a barrier." A voice said in my head so of course I flinched in surprise.
"If it makes you feel better I can talk to you instead of
communicating telepathically, but eventually it is a skill
you will have to learn." Rameses said confirming that he was the voice I had heard.
"So what does having a familiar mean?" I asked curious.
"From what I know a familiar and their counterpart can obviously communicate telepathically, if a witch dies so does the familiar but if a familiar dies the witch can live on. That is the extent of my knowledge on this topic." Rameses explained before laying down on my bed and seeming to fall asleep. I got up and packed clothes, my hiking boots and winter boots, my winter coat, my music/jewelry box, a chess set, my teddy bear that I got when I was one, my pajamas, several of my favorite books, and tapped a map of the world to the top of the trunk. I packed my laptop, my sketchbooks and art supplies, a photo album that only had one picture that was taken only a few weeks before my father died, my ocarina, and a hand held mirror, I then went to sleep on my bed careful not to wake Rameses.
