There was a wailing shriek and a thud followed by scrambling of claws on asphalt before everything was silent.

"Are you alright?" The man asked pointing his gun at the ground.

"Yeah, what was that?" I asked getting up and dusting myself off careful of my left hand that had been burned.

"That was a wendigo. Who are you?" The man asked scanning our surroundings.

"I'm Morgan, Morgan Valencia and you?" I replied.

"My name is Daniel Winters but most people call me Danny." He replied walking past me to investigate where the wendigo had been.

"So you're familiar with this wendigo creature?" Rameses asked .

"I think I may have finally gone insane. Did that cat just talk?" Danny asked a mask of startled confusion taking over his features.

"Yes, he's my familiar. Wait are you a witch?" I asked realizing he might just be a local hunter and we got lucky.

"No I'm not but then again I guess I've seen stranger than a talking cat and a witch." Danny replied with a soft chuckle.

"What am I chopped liver?" Jasper piped up.

"And a pixie I suppose." Danny replied a bit unsure.

"I'm not a pixie, I'm a will-o-wisp." Jasper replied turning into a child again with a huff.

"Sorry kid." Danny chuckled patting Jasper on the head.

"So if you aren't a witch how do you know about wendigo?" Rameses asked.

"That is a long story better told not out in the open where Cas could come back." Danny replied

"Who's Cas?" I asked.

"I'll explain but let's get out of here first. There's a bar nearby." Danny replied before starting off down the road.

"Small problem I'm 18, I can't drink." I told him as Jasper, Rameses, and I caught up.

"As long as you don't try to buy alcohol it should be fine, if they don't let you in we can always go somewhere else." Danny replied.

"Morgan are you sure we should be trusting him, the last guy who tried to take us to a restaurant turned out to be a dangerous creature." Rameses asked in my mind.

"I'm not entirely sure but I'll take the guy who saved us over the wendigo that tried to kill us." I replied hoping I was making the right call. When we got to the bar it turned out to be a steakhouse and bar so they had no issue with us going in after I lied and said that Rameses was a service animal. The staff warned us that they were closing in an hour which wasn't surprising since the clock on the wall said 9:00 guess there was a time difference between here and Chicago.

"So who is Cas?" Jasper asked once we were sat at a table.

"Cas is my little sister and the wendigo that attacked you." Danny explained with a sigh.

"That thing was your sister?!" I asked.

"Yes, she's cursed. She's not always a wendigo though, I've been trying to track for nearly five years now but she's always a step ahead. Honestly this was the closest I've been able to get and I wouldn't have been able to if she hadn't doubled back although I have no idea why she did it." Danny explained as the waitress brought over a couple of waters.

"May I take your order?" The waitress asked.

"I'll get a beer and that's all." Danny replied after a sour look crossed his face when he took a quick glance at the menu. Looking at the menu it wasn't the cheapest food but it also wasn't super expensive maybe he just didn't like what they were serving.

"Can you bring us a cheese pizza please?" I asked as she turned to me, she nodded in return writing it down before taking our menus.

"Nothing you want Danny?" Jasper asked.

"Actually I spent the last of my money getting a last minute train ticket when Cas changed course." Danny replied sheepishly. Taking a closer look at him I noticed his t-shirt had a couple of holes in it and the black leather trench coat he was wearing was slightly too big and had definitely seen quite a bit of wear and tear, but it did the trick of keeping his shotgun hidden. Danny scratched the back of his head with a nervous chuckle as his stomach told us that his clothes weren't the only thing that he skimped on.

"How about this, if you order a couple more beers for Jasper I'll pay for tonight." I told him. When I had gotten the card from the bank Achilles had told me the amount in the account which had blown my mind, paying for tonight wouldn't be a problem.

"I'm not exactly comfortable giving beer to a three year old" Danny whispered casting a glance at Jasper and making sure no one had heard him.

"I was born during the reign of Queen Victoria. So I am no three year old, now go get me some beer." Jasper barked in annoyance causing Danny to jump to his feet and head straight for the bar returning a couple of moments later with three bottles of beer that were quickly handed over to Jasper who once given permission and a quick check to see if anyone was watching downed them. Danny's face was colored is surprise as Jasper quickly went from a three year old to being Danny's age if not older.

"How?" Danny asked in confusion.

"I'm a living fire add alcohol and do the math." Jasper replied.

"Anyways, Jasper aside, how do you know the wendigo Cas you said?" I asked.

"Yeah um, well she's my little sister. She got cursed, still don't know how but she did and dad and her got in an argument one day and she went all crazy cannibal like you saw tonight. I've been trying to track her down ever since. What about you?" Danny replied evasively.

"Me, Well my dad died when I was five killed by an egyptian god. My mom used a talismen to keep me hidden and didn't tell me what it was for so I took it off an angry spirit showed up, Rameses protected me and became my familiar. Then my aunt showed up and took us to Chicago, I ran into Jasper in a magic world through a mirror. uhm..." I replied.

"Don't forget the lions." Rameses interjected.

"Oh yeah then we ended up in a museum where a witch my dad knew was waiting for us and she made the lions come to life and hunt us, so that was fun. Then we went to a market and the bank where my dad's will was read and he said my aunt tried to kill him. When we got home there was a big argument and I got too stressed out by it I guess and blew up the building and that was maybe an hour ago" I continued.

"If you were in Chicago how did you get here?" Danny asked trying to wrap his head around the craziness that had been my life the past couple of days.

"Well when Jasper tried to save me and teleport us we ended up south of here, and this dude named Seth showed up after a creepy guy who turned out to be a creature tried to buy me dinner. Then Seth teleported us here, the wendigo attacked us and you showed up." I told him as the waitress brought a large cheese pizza over doing a double take at seeing Jasper.

"Wow your life makes mine seem boring." Danny said with a dry chuckle taking a slice of pizza. I took one as well and set one aside for Rameses on a napkin before nodding to Jasper who took his own.

"Yeah well it gets even better. Apparently according to Seth the egyptain god who killed by dad is the reason for my powers, which means I have to stay away from my family. Becuase not only can my powers hurt them since I don't know how to control it yet but those same powers also draw in all sorts of creatures. So from here on out I guess it will be just Rameses Jasper and I at least until I learn control." I told Danny who gave me a sympathetic look before his face brightened.

"You attract creatures?!" Danny asked excitedly.

"As far as I know yes." I replied a bit confused.

"I have an idea, you aren't used to travelling alone or dealing with creatures right?" Danny asked to which I nodded wondering where he was going with this.

"Well in tracking Cas I have had quite a few run ins with creatures. Do you have a specific destination in mind?" Danny asked.

"No I honestly don't know where to go, it kinda seems like I need to learn witchcraft before I make any next moves." I replied.

"Then how about we travel together, we continue to follow Cas while you are learning and since you attract creatures I have a better chance of catching her and as long as I'm around you won't have to worry as much about creature attacks. Plus added benefit I've been traveling under the radar for a while so if you want to avoid your family cause they will probably come looking for you your chances are better with me." Danny said looking proud like he had just found the solution to world hunger.

"You did hear the part about I don't have control of my powers and that can put you in danger right?" I asked.

"Yes but I'm already in danger from tracking Cas." Danny replied.

"I mean I don't mind as long as Rameses and Jasper are okay with it I guess." I told him given that he had a good reason for wanting to travel with us and he didn't seem like a bad guy. There was also a good chance that Jasper and Rameses would take issue if he tried anything I didn't like.

"I have no issue with him traveling with us." Rameses said after a moment of thought staring Danny down.

"Sure why not, but if you try anything I will incinerate you and there won't even be bones left when I'm done." Jasper replied with a smile.

"Uh... cool then. There's a spot under a bridge nearby that will be out of the wind for the night." Danny told us after casting a worried glance at Jasper.

"How about I pay for a hotel room instead." I chuckled not wanting to sleep under a bridge.

"Really are you sure?" Danny asked sheepishly I don't think he was used to asking for things from others.

"I wouldn't have offered if I wasn't." I replied.

"Man I don't really remeber when was the last time I slept in a bed." Danny said before we returned to our meal and after I paid we headed for the closest hotel where we were able to get a room without any further sign of Cas.
