Chapter 14
Maya guided us through the market stopping at stalls and tents for various supplies candles, dried herbs, crystals all sorts of things and storing them in a purse that she almost always carried. We had only made it half way through the market when Aunt Maya diverted us towards a large building that made up an entire wall of the garden. Stairs went up into a marble building of swirling white and black. Along either side of the stairs were white pedestals upon each sat what I thought was a dragon statue each a different color with eyes that glittered like gemstones, I quickly realized they weren't statues as one turned its head every so slightly as I passed only to quickly snap back to attention.
"Aunt Maya are those real dragons?" I asked getting Sorcha's full attention.
"Yes they're young dragons probably about your age they take these kind of guard jobs to start building up their hoards." Aunt Maya replied as we continued the climb up the stairs.
"Wait so dragons really hoard gold?" Sorcha asked.
"Not necessarily, many do but I've met a few dragons that don't. There's a dragoness I know who knows how to take human form and she collects books and cats. Another dragon I know who lives in the human world collects snakes, spiders, lizards and frogs." Aunt Maya replied making me imagine a massive dragon with a pair of glasses on its snout atop a pile of books and covered in cats while it read a book. I tried to push the image to Rameses who started laughing back in my mind barely missing a step.
"One moment girls, we can't go into the bank with glamours on." Aunt Maya told us once we reached the top before waving her hand towards me before doing the same to Sorcha who's disguise of a blonde girl with blue eyes dissipated like mist in the sun. Aunt Maya circled her hand around her face causing her own glamour to disappear before leading us inside as the massive doors swung open as we approached.
We hadn't even made it to the first counter when a much larger dragon nearly the size of an elephant landed in front of us causing Aunt Maya to move us behind her.
"We have broken no laws guardian. why do you stop us?" Aunt Maya asked firmly.
"It is true you have broken no law, my purpose for stopping you is that your presence is required." The large reptile pronounced with a rumbling boom, before it turned and began walking towards a side corridor. The hall was way too short for a dragon or at least I thought so until its form melted and shrunk into a purple haired woman draped in gold cloth. She turned back to us a firm glare in her red slitted eyes, at which point Aunt Maya led the way to her where she took the lead eventually bringing us to a double door made of silver and gold that rung as the dragon banged on it twice with her palm.
The dragon turned away without a word as the doors swung open only checking once as Sorcha and I hesitated and Aunt Maya went in. Rameses head butted the back of my leg reminding me that we still needed to follow Aunt Maya. I tapped Sorcha's shoulder before going into the office which had the same marble walls as the rest of the building and four columns that more looked like trees roots sinking into the marble floors with silvers running up the trunks like vines. The stone logs reached up into a cave like ceiling where they transformed into boughs that bloomed into glowing golden leaves.
There were three statues along each wall to my left and my right. On the right stood three statues of men while on the left stood three statues of women on of which had the head of a lioness. Before each pedestal that held the statues was a large golden basin.
At the other end of the room stood a raised marble platform with a large desk on it and just in front of the platform was a set of three regal chairs of gold and silver. Sitting behind the desk was a blonde man with steely grey eyes who was watching us like a hawk. The three of us took a seat and Rameses jumped up to settle in my lap where he looked like he was relaxed but running my hand along his back I could feel that every muscle in his body was tense, when I tried to ask what was wrong telepathically I got no response maybe I had done it wrong.
"Good now that all parties are present we may begin the will reading for Lord Valencia, Malik. May the gods present in this temple strike me down should Valencia Malik's will be tampered with or left unfulfilled. So shall it be on my own honor as Felixus, Achilles." The man before placing a golden obelisk roughly the size of my hand on the desk. The top of the obelisk shone with bright light that turned into mist twisting and curling until it solidified into the form of my father.
"If you are hearing this then it means that my confrontation with the Setehk has ended in my death. In accordance with the tradition of our family my mundane will lists my wife Aisling Valencia nee Fae as sole inheritor so that she will be able to care for our daughters, as such she need not be in attendance for my witch's will. To my firstborn daughter Morgan in accordance with our family's laws and traditions all family accounts, properties, titles, and relics belong to and are open to her as of the reading of this will. To my youngest daughter Sorcha I leave all of my personal accounts, properties, and magical belongings in the hopes that the relationship between my daughters can be preserved." My Father said calmly not looking at any of us with a slight echo to his voice.
"Thus concludes the division of my assets meaning all that is left is to address final wishes. To my daughter Morgan I hope that even if it resulted in my death that you are free to live your life without the influence of Setehk and if I have failed then I am sorry that I could not be there to guide you and help you. I hope that despite my absence you will grow to be strong capable woman and a powerful witch in your own right. To my daughter Sorcha if this will is being read then there is an unfortunately high chance that my mother, your grandmother will attempt to meddle in your and Morgan's lives. I hope that if this is the case she will abandon her beliefs but I will not hold my breath in that regard, Know that you are enough, you are not a spare, you are not worthless for being the second born. I know that you will be just as strong as your sister and never let anyone tell you otherwise, I have left my personal possessions to you as when my own father died my sister Maya was left with nothing and it caused a rift that could never be mended and I hope that the same will not happen to you and Morgan." Father said nearly pleading, I hadn't even known our grandmother could still be alive and she had never had anything to do with us.
"If my sister Maya is in attendance, I leave you nothing but my hope that one day you will learn to live your own life. I stand by my decision that day when you attempted to send your familiar to kill me, you are no sister of mine. I will only ask kindly once that you leave my children alone and do them no harm. Should you disregard my warning I will ensure that in the afterlife to make your own torturous." Father finished much more harshly venom lacing every word before he dissipated as the mist lost it's form and the obelisk ceased to glow.
"If you two will sign these papers we can have the relevant accounts tied to you and get you a card and key for your use." Achilles the banker told us pushing a stack of paper to each of us along with a pair of pens each having a sharp blade on the other end. I started reading through the papers signing at the bottom of each page although I didn't really understand most of it.
"Us the blade to make a small cut on your thumb and press it onto the silver." Aunt Maya told me as I reached the last page which had a small silver area next to the signature that had blood stamp written under it which caused me to pause. I nicked my finger and pressed it to the page unsure if I should trust Aunt Maya since Dad had seemed less than pleased with her.
When Sorcha and I were both done Achilles took the papers before placing them in a tray where they shimmered before disappearing, a few moments later a pair of keys and iridescent black credit cards appeared which were then handed back to us. The key upon closer inspection turned out to be a cross with a teardrop shaped loop at the top inscribed with hieroglyphs, while Sorcha's was a normal key. Achilles then handed me a blood red ring which seemed too big at first before it resized itself to fit me and I felt a sense of relief as it felt like I was letting go of a breath I had been holding as my body relaxed. Achilles soon dismissed us after informing us that the keys could only be used at the bank to access our accounts while the cards would work anywhere like a debit card.
"That was unpleasant." Rameses' voice rang in my head as we descended the steps of the bank, aunt Maya in a rush to get us back to the hotel.
"What was?" I asked wondering if he had been bothered by the will reading he had been very quiet.
"I couldn't reach you in there I was trying but nothing was getting through." Rameses replied.
"Did I do something wrong?" I asked wondering if I had been blocking him out by accident.
"No, I think there was something in that bank doing it." Rameses replied after thinking a while, with aunt Maya's quick pace by now we had reached the mirrors back to the mundane realm so I had to focus more on following aunt Maya and Sorcha so I didn't get lost.
